After letting the metagame settle for a bit, we are open and back in buisness! And the results are in, as well! The winners are Ruft with their counter Salazzle, and Dreadfury with their check Cinderace!

Anyway...onto the next target!

Magearna @ Leftovers
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 136 Def / 16 SpD / 108 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Iron Defense
- Draining Kiss
- Stored Power

The mon of steel has came back with a vengeance to rule the tier with an iron fist! While it won't be winning any metals for its speed, its incredible typing and bulk after a boost will be sure to grind your gears! "

You have until June 28th for submissions!

Submitting Chansey as a counter

Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Teleport
- Thunder Wave

Chansey comes in on a magearna that hasn't set up yet. (If you let it setup, you deserve to lose tbh)

Chansey gets to thunder wave and paralyze Magearna, and actually outspeeds magearna once it's paralyzed.

Chansey only needs 4 seismic tosses to kill magearna, so here are a few relevant damage calcs against it.

+3 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (140 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 201-237 (28.5 - 33.7%) -- 0.5% chance to 3HKO
(At this point, magearna wouldve been hit by two seismic tosses already)

+4 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (180 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 310-365 (44 - 51.9%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO
(Wouldve gotten hit by 3 here)

Not to mention hax :3, this mon solidly counters magearna.

Cinderace @ Choice Band / Life Orb
Jolly Nature
Ability: Libero
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Zen Headbutt
- Pyro Ball
- U-turn
- Sucker Punch

Caveat of "Magearna can't already have +2 Defense" as usual, but (Choice Band) Cinderace is a good counter to this Magearna set. Banded Pyro Ball 2HKOs even if Magearna is at +2 Defense (Life Orb needs 1 layer of Spikes to ensure that) while even after 1 Calm Mind, Magearna can only 3HKO Cinderace with Stored Power.

Submitting SpDef Toxapex as a counter

:ss/toxapex:
Toxapex @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic Spikes /Toxic
- Haze

SpDef Pex is able to come in on this set and safely hazes 93.75% of the time, if it is above 38.7% HP and Black Sludge intact. The 6.25% being a crit. Staying above this HP threshold is relatively easy as Regenerator supports it well.

Assuming Magearna Calm mind's on the switch to Pex, then tries to stored power again following the haze. Combined doing a maximum of 44.6%

+1 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (60 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 92-110 (30.2 - 36.1%)
0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (20 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Toxapex: 22-26 (7.2 - 8.5%)

This set eats up Magearna's momentum. Allowing you to set up a relatively free T Spike once you are healed enough. If you are not running T Spikes you are still able to fairly easily pivot into your resident offensive fire or ground type to KO this mon.

Banned deucer.
trick scarf rachi as counter

:ss/Jirachi:
Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Trick
- Healing Wish / Fire Punch

:jirachi: is a counter to this magearna-set as it can come in plenty of times and threaten magearna with the use of trick. trick gives magearna a choice scarf which makes it useless for the rest of the game since the only "viable" options which it is left with is its stab-move in draining kiss when scarf-locked.
jirachi can also threaten magearna with a fire punch, alternatively it can healing wish up a strong wallbreaker on its team to defeat magearna.
jirachis trick is also capable of tricking magearnas teammates therefore magearna itself has a bit of a harder time when the support for it isnt fully provided anymore.

calcs:

+3 0 SpA Magearna Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Jirachi: 84-99 (24.6 - 29%) -- 99.9% chance to 4HKO
+3 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (220 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Jirachi: 123-144 (36 - 42.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Volcarona as a counter

1592823365629.png

Volcarona @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Psychic

Volcarona can come in on any move and scare it out with OHKO from Fire Blast. Even if Magearna is boosted, it still takes 65%+ from unboosted Volcarona which allows you to set up alongside it.

0 SpA Magearna Draining Kiss vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 33-39 (10.6 - 12.5%) -- possible 8HKO
252+ SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 248 HP / 16 SpD Magearna: 356-420 (98 - 115.7%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
+1 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 78-92 (25 - 29.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252+ SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. +1 248 HP / 16 SpD Magearna: 236-282 (65 - 77.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 0 SpA Magearna Stored Power (100 BP) vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcarona: 115-136 (36.9 - 43.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+1 252+ SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. +2 248 HP / 16 SpD Magearna: 266-314 (73.2 - 86.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Marowak-Alola @ Thick Club
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Poltergeist
- Earthquake

Hard checks Magearna by being able to push through it with Swords Dance and Flare Blitz. Is not a real counter due to being very prone to chip damage, namely hazards, meaning that Magearna can overwhelm it in a long run. Being slower than Magearna doesn't help it too.

:SS/Rotom-Heat:
Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 172 HP / 120 SpD / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Discharge
- Overheat
- Pain Split

Rotom-H serves as a counter to this Magearna set , Rotom-h can come in as it sets up and take a hit from any of the moves and force it out or set up with it as you can always live a boosted stored power after 2 Calm minds and can remove it with 2 overheats after a Nasty Plot. Pain Split helps in keeping Rotom-H healthy against Magearna.

Counter but again this is largely because the definition is outdated
:bw/excadrill:
Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- High Horsepower / Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Resists both attacking moves and can set up Swords Dance alongside Iron Defense. Takes 29% max from +6 Def Stored Power and avoids the 2HKO from +6 Def +1 SpA +1 SpD Stored Power if at full health with Lefties intact; 2HKOs assuming attack boost level is the same as defense boost level.

I submit Specs Magnezone as a Check to Stored Power Magearna.
C8B5A7AE-0192-4C7B-9F5E-A0466486B204.gif

Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Flash Cannon
- Steel Beam

Zone can always switch into Stored Power Gear and win most of the time while Gear can only beat Magnezone if it gets to +3 CM, at which point Draining Kiss recovers more than Tbolt does. Steel Beam always 2HKOs Gear after switching in, but it also means losing Zone and risking a miss. That all depends on Gear making the right play as well, as Gear choosing anything other than CM on Zone’s switch-in gives Zone the W without forcing it to use Steel Beam. Because proper play gives Gear a chance in this matchup, Zone acts only as a Check, but it is reliable as such.

Edit: forgot to include set,apologies
