Congratulations and thanks to all those who made a submission, all of them were super cool.

Let’s move on to a new Victim of the Week. This time you will have to deal with a deadly setup sweeper and breaker loved by all hyper offense players, Bisharp!

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance

This Steel Soldier is a terrifying threat in OU. Its high Attack stat alongside with an access to Swords Dance allows him to threaten a lot of walls and makes it painful to switch into. Its STAB combination is hard to wall and its strong Knock Off can still cripple Dark resistances. Its main drawback is its mediocre Speed which would let him be revenge killed easily if it didn’t have one of the best priority moves in the game. Indeed, Sucker Punch is a strong Dark STAB able to tear into pieces faster offensive Pokemon if they don’t resist it. On top of that, Defiant allows him to act as an Anti-Defog option in Hyper Offense teams and can punish Intimidate users from switching in. Have fun finding checks and counters to this beast!

Submission phase will end on next Friday, good luck!

Buzzwole @ Rocky Helmet / Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 52 Atk / 204 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat / Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Roost
- Toxic / Earthquake

As one of the premiere tanks in OU, Buzzwole can run either an offensive or defensive set, depending on the team. This set here outruns many Lando-T sets, as well as bulkier Heatrans. The minimum speed EVs for Buzzwole is set at 188, allowing it to outspeed Magnezone and Aegi. More relevant to the point at hand, this also allows Buzzwole to outspeed Adamant Bisharp as well. Max HP without defense investment is 2HKOd by +2 Iron Head, but shrugs off any other moves Bisharp can throw at it; even +6 Sucker Punch does only 62% max. Since Buzzwole should always come in on Bisharp, Iron Head should never be an issue, and Buzzwole can easily Roost off the damage or, if it is healthy enough, even predict a switch-in with a coverage move since the Bisharp poses no threat.

Again, since Buzzwole should always come in on Bisharp, Rocky Helmet punishes Knock Off, chipping down Bisharp (and potentially breaking a Focus Sash on variant sets). Alternatively, Boots are a great option to ensure the Buzzwole can enter the field at full HP. Either one is fine; ultimately, however, the Buzzwole will usually end up taking a Knock Off throughout the match, so at some point the choice of item becomes moot.

Close Combat is a great offensive option, OHKOing Blissey from full, and Drain Punch allows for healing outside of the passive Roost. Toxic can be used to cripple Zapdos and Tornadus-T, while EQ allows for Buzzwole to punish G-King, Toxapex, and Aegislash.

At this point, Buzzwole is planning how it will deal with the inevitable switch-in, because it is such a counter to Bisharp, that even if the Bisharp stays in on a prediction, Buzzwole can easily regain any lost HP and obliterate the fool.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Choice Band

Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 16 Def / 240 Spe

Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Surging Strikes

- Close Combat
- U-turn

- Aqua Jet

:urshifu-rapid strike: CHECK
it doesn't have the defensive capabilities or the longevity to be a counter, but it resists bisharp's stabs with it's great physical bulk and of course is able to outspeed and ohko it from full with either surging strikes or close combat, thanks to choice band. in the desperate scenario when you have to switch into a boosted bisharp with shifu, you do get killed by +2 knock off into +2 sucker punch, but you also have aqua jet to play 50/50 around it.
16 defense evs are to never be 2hkod by +2 sucker punch. very small, probably useless, but I just wanted to put this information out there. speed still outspeeds tapu lele and kyurem. this thing is a top tier offensive check that turns bisharp into an opportunity to break.

+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 16 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 144-170 (42.2 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+6 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 16 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 288-339 (84.4 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Choice Band Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Bisharp on a critical hit: 279-327 (102.9 - 120.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Zapdos-Galar @ Choice Band
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird
- U-turn

- Stomping Tantrum

Galarian Zapdos’ good natural bulk and Dark-resistance makes it a good check to Bisharp. It is able to switch into a all of its attacks unboosted and either forces it out or it sacks. Base 100 Speed forces Bisharp to have to click Sucker Punch for damage. Galarian Zapdos can of course destroy Bisharp with Close Combat and Bisharp can only KO with +2 Iron Head.

252 Atk Choice Band Zapdos-Galar Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Bisharp: 1140-1344 (420.6 - 495.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 160-189 (49.8 - 58.8%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Zapdos-Galar: 306-360 (95.3 - 112.1%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- Roost
- Iron Defense
- Brave Bird/Spikes/Stealth Rocks
Skarmory can eaisly come in on Bisharps stabs and roost of the dmg and threaten it with Body press and if Bish tries to just power through skarm by clicking SD then you can just click Iron Defense and punishing it.
Here are some calcs
252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 117-138 (35 - 41.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 231-273 (69.1 - 81.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO(After SD).So i will submit Skarmory as a counter

I’m submitting :tapu-lele: as a :bisharp: check.

:ss/tapu-lele:
Tapu Lele @ Choice Specs
Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Psyshock
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt
It seems counter-intuitive but :tapu-lele: is an offensive check to :bisharp:. One of its main assets is the psychic terrain preventing bisharp's sucker punch.
With its powerful special attack and being faster than :bisharp:, :tapu-lele: can ohko it with moonblast (an accurate move). These qualities make :tapu-lele: a great solution to deal with bisharp offensively.

the only calc:
252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Bisharp: 310-366 (114.3 - 135%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Corviknight @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 SpD
Impish Nature
- Body Press
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost

Corviknight serves as a check against Bisharp since you are going to be switching into it when its boosting to Swords Dance or luring it in when removing hazards , and you are able to remove it as you live boosted Knock Off or Sucker Punch with Body Press. You must lookout for some chip as any minor chip leaves you vulnerable to boosted Knock Off even if you do not have an item it is still a clean 2HKO without hazards on the field. In most cases these scenarios are 50/50 as most of the time Bisharp players they either go greedy and try to heavily weaken Corviknight and lose Bisharp which can relieve some pressure for your teammates that get pressured from it.

@ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 220 Def / 40 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Discharge
- Heat Wave
- Roost
- Defog

Zapdos can switch into bisharp and eat any 2 attacks since after losing boots it can eat any 2 attacks from bisharp and threaten it with static, or heat wave. It is a check as losing its boots is not the best.

0 SpA Zapdos Heat Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 222-262 (81.9 - 96.6%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Zapdos: 169-199 (44.1 - 51.9%) -- 14.1% chance to 2HKO
+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Zapdos: 241-285 (62.9 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off vs. 248 HP / 220+ Def Zapdos: 112-133 (29.2 - 34.7%) -- 9.3% chance to 3HKO

Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

  • 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 163-193 (41.3 - 48.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 109-130 (27.6 - 32.9%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
  • 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Quagsire: 118-139 (29.9 - 35.2%) -- 22.6% chance to 3HKO

  • 0 Atk Quagsire Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 188-224 (69.3 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Submitting Quagsire as a Counter, thanks to Unaware it ignores any boosts to Bisharps attack, whilst not taking much from Bisharps Dark STABs, and can fish for Scald burns or just 2hko with eq.

Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Ice Beam / Flamethrower
- Earthquake
- Roost
- Heal Bell

Dragonite is a check. Mutliscale allows it to switch in on any of Bisharp's attacks from full, at which point it can threaten a 2HKO or Roost off the damage.

Unfortunately, Dragonite relies on Multiscale being intact to switch in on a boosted Bisharp. It also really doesn't like having its item knocked off.

:dragonite:
0 SpA Dragonite Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Bisharp: 43-51 (15.8 - 18.8%) -- possible 6HKO

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 SpD
Impish Nature
- Knock Off
- Body Press
- Spikes / Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed

Ferrothorn does need a more physically bulky spread than the one on the analysis to eat a +2 Knock Off - this is one I use to survive two CCs from Zera before rocks, and it also happens to survive said Knock Off after rocks - but once you're over that benchmark, the durian is a solid check.

252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 96+ Def Ferrothorn: 136-162 (38.6 - 46%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 96+ Def Ferrothorn: 271-321 (76.9 - 91.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
96+ Def Ferrothorn Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Bisharp: 344-408 (126.9 - 150.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Hydreigon is very solid check, due to being faster than Bisharp, resistance to Knock Off and Sucker Punch, and reliable recovery in Roost. However, Hydreigon often finds itself worn down checking other mons (such as Heatran and Blacephalon) and takes too much from Iron Head for it to always be a foolproof answer. Furthermore, Hydreigon needs its Life Orb to guarantee a OHKO Bisharp meaning that losing it to Knock makes ‘sharp occasionally able to break through (especially those that invest in bulk).

252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 333-393 (122.8 - 145%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Hydreigon: 153-181 (47 - 55.6%) -- 77.3% chance to 2HKO

EVs: 76 HP / 36 Def / 176 SpA / 12 SpD / 208 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

- Secret Sword
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Substitute

Keldeo is a good check to Bisharp because of its typing resisting Bisharp's STABs. The given EV spread enables it to never get 2HKOd by +2 Sucker Punch from Bisharp and OHKO it back. The Speed EVs allow it to outspeed max Speed Jolly Garchomp. Although it can't do much back, it survives every attack from Choice Specs Dragapult. This set has Calm Mind and Substitute to punish passive play from opponents such as switches to resists and/or setting up hazards. Secret Sword and Scald are used as its STAB moves to hit targets such as Landorus-T and of course, Bisharp super effectively.

+2 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 76 HP / 36 Def Keldeo-Resolute: 153-181 (44.7 - 52.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 76 HP / 36 Def Keldeo-Resolute: 146-172 (42.6 - 50.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

I'm gonna close the submission phase tomorrow (in about 20 hours). Tysonslayer, little ping reminder if you want to complete your submission.
D5405, I assume that your submission (Skarmory) is a counter, you can specify it in your submission especially if you wanna submit it as a check.
HydreigonTheChild, similarly, assuming your submission (Zapdos) is a check, but feel free to specify it in your post.

See you tomorrow for the voting phase!
