UU Sylveon [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Sylveon has a unique niche in UU as a functional cleric that can pass Wish and heal status while also checking key offensive threats like Keldeo, Galarian Moltres, and Kommo-o with Hyper Voice. Mystical Fire allows it to threaten certain Steel-types like Celesteela and Aegislash on the switch relatively well. Unfortunately, offensive Steel- and Poison-types like Jirachi and Nidoking are fairly common and can immediately threaten Sylveon upon entering the field. While Sylveon appreciates being able to use Heal Bell and Mystical Fire, it does not have room for both and must choose between healing status or the ability to threaten Steel-types on the switch. While a great Wish passer, using it for Sylveon's own recovery is suboptimal, as Sylveon requires two turns and using Protect to fully utilize it. Jirachi gives Sylveon some competition as a Wish passer, as it has the ability to use U-turn after Wish for a cleaner pass. Chansey is also a Pokemon that can wall most special threats other than Keldeo while also healing status.

move 3: Protect
move 4: Mystical Fire / Heal Bell
item: Leftovers
ability: Pixilate
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 132 Def / 124 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Hyper Voice allows Sylveon to have a modest offensive presence, as it can OHKO certain threats like Kommo-o and Buzzwole and offensively pressure other threats like Keldeo and Salamence. Wish is Sylveon's only recovery move and requires Protect to effectively work for self-recovery. Protect can also be used to scout. Mystical Fire threatens Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash, although since most of those Pokemon also threaten Sylveon right back, it should primarily only be used on the switch. It also helps against certain special attackers that may try to switch into Sylveon like Nidoqueen and Nihilego while also preventing the latter from gaining Special Attack boosts with Meteor Beam. Heal Bell is an option that allows Sylveon to act as one of the only functional clerics in the tier, preventing foes like Rotom-W and Togekiss from freely spreading status. The EV spread gives Sylveon substantial physical bulk while also ensuring Sylveon withstands two Hydro Pumps from Choice Specs Keldeo after Leftovers recovery.

Sylveon generally fits best on bulky offense or balance teams that can take advantage of its Wish support. Bulky Pokemon that lack recovery such as Nidoqueen, Kommo-o, and Seismitoad appreciate Sylveon's Wish support. These Pokemon also offer Stealth Rock support, which can help Sylveon KO offensive threats such as Keldeo after chip damage. Offensive Pokemon such as Aegislash and Nihilego appreciate its Wish support to get extra chances to break through opposing teams. Nihilego also checks Rotom-H, which can set up with Nasty Plot against Sylveon. Pokemon like Rotom-W and Tangrowth appreciate Sylveon's ability to heal status, as it enables them to regain their HP more reliably with Pain Split and Regenerator. Sylveon is significantly threatened by Steel-types; therefore, Moltres and Rotom-H can help check these offensively and defensively, and Amoonguss can also threaten certain offensive Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash with Foul Play. Sylveon is unable to significantly damage Poison-types like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Nidoqueen. As such, teammates like Krookodile and Gastrodon, which can take some hits and threaten these Pokemon, are good complements to Sylveon.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Though Sylveon has decent attacks, Primarina outclasses it as an offensive Fairy-type, so it has no other particularly viable options.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-types like Aegislash, Celesteela, and Jirachi pose significant problems for Sylveon both offensively and defensively, as all of these will OHKO or 2HKO Sylveon after chip damage. While Sylveon can carry Mystical Fire, it will generally only be able to use this on an incoming Steel-type, as it will typically not want to stay in on any Steel-types unless it is preventing them from boosting their Special Attack.

**Poison-types**: Nidoking, Nidoqueen, and Nihilego threaten Sylveon considerably with their STAB moves, although Nidoking and Nidoqueen must be careful of switching into Mystical Fire. Additionally, Nihilego and Galarian Slowbro can freely set up against Sylveon if it is not running Mystical Fire.

**Fire-types**: Sylveon has no way to threaten Fire-types like Rotom-H and Moltres. This allows Rotom-H and Moltres to set up with Nasty Plot for free and restore HP with Roost, respectively. These Pokemon can also carry Toxic, which Sylveon cannot outlast effectively because of Heal Bell's limited PP.

[OVERVIEW]

- Sylveon has a unique niche in UU in that it is a functional cleric that can pass Wish and heal status while also offering decent damage output with Hyper Voice and has the ability to check key offensive threats like Keldeo, Galarian Moltres, and Kommo-o.
- Hyper Voice's large base power with Pixilate allows Sylveon to threaten a wide variety of threats in UU such as Keldeo, Salamence, and Buzzwole, all of which can be OHKO'd or KO'd (You would probably just say one or the other at that point if they've been chipped into range, also the term is "OHKOed" not OHKO'd) after minimal chip.
- Access to Mystical Fire allows it to modestly threaten certain Steel-types like Scizor and Toxic Aegislash on the switch, while access to Yawn allows it to not drain so much momentum be a total momentum sink.
- Unfortunately, offensive Steel- and Poison-types like Scizor, Nidoqueen, and Jirachi are fairly common and can immediately threaten Sylveon upon entering the field. (I would find other examples over queen and rachi since they are more rare now)
- While Sylveon appreciates being able to use Heal Bell, Mystical Fire, and Yawn, it cannot run all of these moves at once, meaning it will inevitably suffer from not being able to heal status or sapping momentum due to its inability to damage Steel-types or status other foes.
- Jirachi gives Sylveon some competition as a Wish passer, as it has the ability to U-Turn after Wish for a cleaner pass. Chansey is also a Pokemon that can wall most special threats other than Keldeo while also healing status. (Stealth Rock is a trait these two share that they have over sylveon) Sylveon can still offer a unique role aside from these as it can perform both jobs while simultaneously defensively checking and offensively pressuring the aforementioned threats.

[SET COMMENTS]

Paragraph 1
- Wish and Protect allow Sylveon to reliably heal itself in addition to scouting.
- Hyper Voice allows Sylveon to have a modest offensive presence, but it will usually not OHKO significant threats in the tier other than Kommo-o and Buzzwole. (word this less negatively here since it offensively threatens Mienshao and Noivern which are picking up in usage, and even Krookodile in an emergency)
- Heal Bell allows Sylveon to act as one of the only functional clerics in the tier. (list a couple of mons that appreciate not being statused like Rotom-W or Noivern)
- Mystical Fire can be used instead of Heal Bell to better threaten Steel-types likes Scizor and Aegislash, though most of those Pokemon also threaten Sylveon right back. While Sylveon can carry Mystical Fire, it will generally only be able to use this on a switch to a Steel-type, as keeping Sylveon in while a Steel-type Pokemon is on the field is never a good option. (I moved this detail here because this seems like an important enough detail to let the readers know immediately instead of at the end. I would reword this so that it fits on here while also mentioning that it also helps pivot around other threats like Nidoqueen)
- Yawn can be used to help gain momentum, but Heal Bell or Mystical Fire typically offer more usefulness in being able to heal status or OHKO Scizor.
- The EV spread guarantees that Sylveon will survive a Bullet Punch from Scizor with a Life Orb boost, while also ensuring Sylveon withstands two Hydro Pumps from Choice Specs Keldeo after Leftovers recovery.

Paragraph 2
- Sylveon generally fits best on bulk oriented (did you mean bulky offense?) or balance oriented teams that can take advantage of its Wish support.
- Bulky Pokemon Stealth Rock setters that lack recovery, such as Nidoqueen, Cobalion, and Seismitoad, appreciate Sylveon's Wish support. Seismitoad in particular also offers Sylveon a safe switch-out from both Steel- and Poison-type attacks. All of these defensive Pokemon also offer Stealth Rock Their hazard support, which can help ensure Sylveon can KO offensive threats such as Keldeo after chip damage.
- Sylveon's Wish support can also support assist certain offensive Pokemon such as Choice Specs Aegislash and Kommo-o, as the Wish recovery to enables these Pokemon them to get multiple extra chances to break opposing teams.
- Sylveon is significantly threatened by Scizor, and any team with Sylveon thus requires a definitive answer to it such as Moltres, Amoonguss, or Rotom-H. These Pokemon can also help with other Steel-types such as Aegislash and Jirachi, as even Amoonguss can threaten most offensive variants with Foul Play.
- Sylveon is unable to significantly damage many Poison-type Pokemon like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Nidoqueen. As such, teammates like Starmie and Gastrodon that can threaten these Pokemon and also take some hits are good compliments.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- A Choice Specs set can be used to give Sylveon powerful wallbreaking potential, as Hyper Voice will do slightly more damage than a Choice Specs Moonblast from Primarina, and Sylveon has better defensive typing and bulk. (I would mention that Prima also has another good STAB to dish out since you are comparing the two) Unfortunately, Sylveon's other coverage moves are lackluster and don't hit many Pokemon in the tier that don't already threaten Sylveon significantly, forcing it to try to predict switches most of the time it is on the field.

- Sylveon can use a set with Calm Mind to break through some of its usual defensive checks such as Moltres (can it? if Moltres is running toxic then I doubt Syl is gonna be able to break through in time between poison and roost unless you are talking Sub CM) and Tentacruel. While this works effectively against special attackers, physical Steel-types such as Scizor and Jirachi will still OHKO Sylveon or KO after minimal chip.

- Sylveon has the ability to use a Pixilated Quick Attack to act as an emergency priority option for Pokemon that are close to being KO'd. This includes Pokemon who may have had their Focus Sash broken, as well as Fairy-weak Pokemon like Kommo-o or Galarian Moltres that require just one more soft hit to eliminate. Sylveon's other utility options, such as Heal Bell or Yawn, are generally more useful and less situational.

(Moonblast over Pixilate Voice is available so that you are not just stone walled by Soundproof Kommo-o. Admittedly this is very specific so I'd check this with someone else before actually adding it)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-type Pokemon like Scizor, Celesteela, and Jirachi pose significant problems for Sylveon both offensively and defensively, as all of these will 2HKO Sylveon or OHKO after chip damage. While Sylveon can carry Mystical Fire, it will generally only be able to use this on a switch to a Steel-type, as keeping Sylveon in while a Steel-type Pokemon is on the field is never a good option. (moved to paragraph 1)

**Offensive Poison-types**: Sylveon cannot do any meaningful damage to Poison-types in the tier such as Nidoqueen and Nihilego, and these Poison-types in turn threaten Sylveon considerably with STAB moves. As such, these Pokemon will generally always be able to switch in safely, while also forcing Sylveon to switch out. (you can merge these two sentences together with something like "Threats such as Nihilego and Queen will be always able to come in safely and force sylveon out because it cannot threaten them meaningfully outside of yawn")

**Fire-types**: Sylveon has no way to threaten Fire-types like Rotom-H and Moltres. This allows Rotom-H to set up Nasty Plot for free, while allowing Moltres a free switch in to restore HP with Roost. These Pokemon can also carry Toxic, which Sylveon cannot outlast effectively because of Heal Bell's limited PP.

**Trick Users**: Trick users such as Rotom-W and Chandelure can cripple Sylveon's effectiveness, as it relies on Wish and Protect for recovery, and acts as support for the rest of the team.

Add a line saying two turn recovery sucks ass. It saps up momentum and makes it really easy to take advantage of Sylv

Toxic is also an option for the fourth move slot to help with foes like Rotom-H and Moltres, but Heal Bell or Mystical Fire are still better in most situations for the aforementioned reasons.
- The EV spread guarantees that Sylveon will survive a Bullet Punch from Scizor with a Life Orb boost, while also ensuring Sylveon withstands two Hydro Pumps from Choice Specs Keldeo after Leftovers recovery.

Paragraph 2
- Sylveon generally fits best on bulky offense or balance teams that can take advantage of its Wish support.
- Bulky Pokemon that lack recovery, such as Nidoqueen, Cobalion, and Seismitoad, appreciate Sylveon's Wish support. Seismitoad in particular also offers Sylveon a safe switch-out from both Steel- and Poison-type attacks. All of these defensive Pokemon also offer Stealth Rock support, which can help Sylveon KO offensive threats such as Keldeo after chip damage.
- Sylveon can also support certain offensive Pokemon such as Aegislash and Kommo-o, as the Wish recovery enables these Pokemon to get multiple extra chances to break opposing teams. Mention Kommo-o checks Chandelure, which takes advantage of Sylv
- Pokemon like Rotom-W and Tangrowth that suffer tremendously when Toxic'd especially appreciate Sylveon's ability to heal status.
- Sylveon is significantly threatened by Scizor, and any team with Sylveon requires a definitive answer to it such as Moltres, Amoonguss, or Rotom-H. These Pokemon can also help with other Steel-types such as Aegislash and Jirachi, as even Amoonguss can threaten most offensive variants with Foul Play. Just generalize this point about Steel-types in general. Scizor isn't a safe pivot into Sylveon, it threatens Scizor harder than these other Steels
- Sylveon is unable to significantly damage many Poison-type Pokemon like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Nidoqueen. As such, teammates like Starmie, and Gastrodon that can threaten these Pokemon and also take some hits are good compliments.
- Bulky set up sweepers like Galarian Slowbro also appreciate Sylveon's ability to Wish pass, as well as the potential momentum gained from Yawn sets.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

=============

- A Choice Specs set can be used to give Sylveon powerful wallbreaking potential, as Hyper Voice will do slightly more damage than a Choice Specs Moonblast from Primarina, and Sylveon has better defensive typing and bulk. Unfortunately, Sylveon has no other STAB move like Primarina does. Additionally, its other coverage moves are lackluster and don't hit many Pokemon in the tier that don't already threaten Sylveon significantly, forcing it to try to predict switches most of the time it is on the field.

- Sylveon can use a set with Calm Mind to break through some of its usual defensive checks such as Moltres and Tentacruel. While this works effectively against special attackers, physical Steel-types such as Scizor and Jirachi will still OHKO Sylveon or KO after minimal chip.

These sets are all drastically worse versions than Primarina that I'd not even bother mentioning. We can discuss it further on discord if we want to keep but I'd cut down on the word count for talking about specs a fair amount if so.

- Sylveon has the ability to use a Pixilated Quick Attack to act as an emergency priority option for Pokemon that are close to being KO'd. This includes Pokemon who may have had their Focus Sash broken such as Krookodile, as well as Fairy-weak Pokemon like Obstagoon or Galarian Moltres that require just one more soft hit to eliminate. Sylveon's other utility options, such as Heal Bell or Yawn, are generally more useful and less situational.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Sylveon cannot do any meaningful damage to Poison-types in the tier such as Nidoqueen and Nihilego, and these Poison-types in turn threaten Sylveon considerably with STAB moves. As such, these Pokemon will generally always be able to switch in safely, while also forcing Sylveon to switch out.

**Trick Users**: Trick users such as Rotom-W and Chandelure can cripple Sylveon's effectiveness, as it relies on Wish and Protect for recovery, and acts as support for the rest of the team, though Sylveon can typically scout for Trick by using Protect.

- Sylveon has a unique niche in UU in that it is a functional cleric that can pass Wish and heal status while also offering decent damage output with Hyper Voice and has the ability to check key offensive threats like Keldeo, Galarian Moltres, and Kommo-o.
- Hyper Voice's large base power with Pixilate allows Sylveon to threaten a wide variety of threats in UU such as Keldeo, Salamence, and Buzzwole.
- Access to Mystical Fire allows it to modestly threaten certain Steel-types like Scizor and Aegislash on the switch in.
- Unfortunately, offensive Steel- and Poison-types like Scizor, Nidoqueen, and Jirachi are fairly common and can immediately threaten Sylveon upon entering the field.
- While Sylveon appreciates being able to use Heal Bell and Mystical Fire, it does not have room for both and must choose between not being able to heal status or being unable to threaten Steel-types on the switch in.
- Jirachi gives Sylveon some competition as a Wish passer, as it has the ability to U-Turn after Wish for a cleaner pass. Chansey is also a Pokemon that can wall most special threats other than Keldeo while also healing status. Sylveon can still offer a unique role aside from these as it can perform both cleric jobs while simultaneously defensively checking and offensively pressuring the aforementioned threats. note fairy typing
- While a great Wish passer, using Wish for Sylveon's own recovery is suboptimal, as it requires two turns and using Protect to fully utilize it. this is kinda weird to have at the very end

Paragraph 1
- Wish and Protect allow Sylveon to reliably heal itself in addition to scouting when writing up b sure to make this not sound like filler.
- Hyper Voice allows Sylveon to have a modest offensive presence, as it can OHKO certain threats in the tier like Kommo-o and Buzzwole, as well as offensively pressure other threats like Keldeo and Salamence.
- Heal Bell allows Sylveon to act as one of the only functional clerics in the tier.include a couple mons that cant spread status v effectively once sylv in play
- Mystical Fire can be used instead of Heal Bell to better threaten Steel-types like Scizor and Aegislash, though most of those Pokemon also threaten Sylveon right back and it should primarily only be used on the switch in. It also helps against certain special attackers that may try to switch in on Sylveon like Nidoqueen and Nihilego. note it prevents them from using sylv to set up on
- The EV spread guarantees that Sylveon will survive a Bullet Punch from Scizor with a Life Orb boost, while also ensuring Sylveon withstands two Hydro Pumps from Choice Specs Keldeo after Leftovers recovery.

Paragraph 2
- Sylveon generally fits best on bulky offense or balance teams that can take advantage of its Wish support.
- Bulky Pokemon that lack recovery, such as Nidoqueen, Cobalion coba likes wishes but I think itd be better to swap this less reliant on its typing to take hits like Kommo-o (obv you'd have to replace the later kommo-o mention but I think it's appropriate here since it can run defensive as well), and Seismitoad, appreciate Sylveon's Wish support. Seismitoad in particular also offers Sylveon a safe switch-out from both Steel- and Poison-type attacks like? this feels random besides it helping against specs keld. All of these defensive Pokemon also offer Stealth Rock support, which can help Sylveon KO offensive threats such as Keldeo after chip damage. as a more general comment bulky w/o recovery isn't rly the same as defensive so distinguish in write up
- Sylveon can also support certain offensive Pokemon such as Aegislash and Kommo-o, as the Wish recovery enables these Pokemon to get multiple extra chances to break opposing teams. Kommo-o also checks Chandelure, a Pokemon that Sylveon would otherwise be unable to break through chandy mention feels kinda random, maybe do rotom h here instead since it can safely NP on sylv while chandy can toxic and own clanger + sylv.
- Pokemon like Rotom-W and Tangrowth that suffer tremendously this is a bit dramatic for pain split + regen mons when Toxic'd especially appreciate Sylveon's ability to heal status.
- Sylveon is significantly threatened by Steel-types, in particular Scizor. Moltres and Rotom-H can help check Scizor and other Steel-types both offensively and defensively, and Amoonguss can also threaten most offensive Steel-types like Scizor and Jirachi imo do like aegis > rachi since it can flinch down amoon after knocking helm, or just be aoa and psychic it with Foul Play.
- Sylveon is unable to significantly damage many Poison-type Pokemon like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Nidoqueen. As such, teammates like Starmie, and Gastrodon i mean you're not wrong but id prefer more relevant examples, def at least don't use starmie and opt for like krookodile that can threaten these Pokemon and also take some hits are good compliments.

Access to Mystical Fire allows it to modestly threaten certain Steel-types like Scizor and Aegislash on the switch in relatively well (modestly has a different meaning and doesn't fit in this context). Unfortunately, offensive Steel- and Poison-types like Scizor, Jirachi,(AC) and Nidoqueen,(RC) and Jirachi are fairly common and can immediately threaten Sylveon upon entering the field. [OVERVIEW]

Sylveon has a unique niche in UU as a functional cleric that can pass Wishes and heal status while also checking key offensive threats like Keldeo, Galarian Moltres, and Kommo-o with Hyper Voice.

[SET COMMENTS]

Hyper Voice allows Sylveon to have a modest offensive presence, as it can OHKO certain threats in the tier like Kommo-o and Buzzwole as well as and offensively pressure other threats like Keldeo and Salamence. Wish is Sylveon's only recovery move and requires Protect to effectively work for self-recovery. Protect can also be used to scout. Mystical Fire can be used to threatens Steel-types like Jirachi and Aegislash, although since most of those Pokemon also threaten Sylveon right back, it should primarily only be used on the switch. It also helps against certain special attackers that may try to switch in on into Sylveon like Nidoqueen and Nihilego while also preventing the latter from gaining Special Attack boosts with Meteor Beam. Heal Bell is an option that allows Sylveon to act as one of the only functional clerics in the tier, preventing foes like Rotom-W and Togekiss from freely spreading status.(removed space) The EV spread gives Sylveon substantial physical(lowercase) bulk while also ensuring Sylveon withstands two Hydro Pumps from Choice Specs Keldeo after Leftovers recovery.

Sylveon generally fits best on bulky offense or balance teams that can take advantage of its Wish support. Bulky Pokemon that lack recovery,(RC) such as Nidoqueen, Kommo-o, and Seismitoad appreciate Sylveon's Wish support. All of These(capitalize) Pokemon also offer Stealth Rock support, which can help Sylveon KO offensive threats such as Keldeo after chip damage. Offensive Pokemon such as Aegislash and Nihilego appreciate its Wish support to get multiple extra chances to break through opposing teams. Sylveon is unable to significantly damage many Poison-types Pokemon like Tentacruel, Nihilego, and Nidoqueen. As such, teammates like Krookodile and Gastrodon,(AC) that which can take some hits and threaten these Pokemon,(AC) are good compliments complements to Sylveon.

Other Options
=============

Though Sylveon has decent attacks, Primarina outclasses it as an offensive Fairy-type, so it has no other particularly viable options.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Steel-types Pokemon like Aegislash, Celesteela, and Jirachi pose significant problems for Sylveon both offensively and defensively, as all of these will OHKO or 2HKO Sylveon after chip damage.
