Tangela @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
- Leaf Storm / Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off
- Sleep Powder / Stun Spore
Tangela is a great offensive option thanks to its decent speed tier, great Special Attack stat, and above-average bulk (mention here instead that two huge pros of Tangela, which is that it can still defensively check threats like Thwackey and Gurdurr while being an effective stallbreaker that wears down any defensive team). Leaf Storm and Giga Drain allow Tangela to deal with Ground- and Water-types such as Piloswine, Krokorok, and Wartortle. While the former provides increased power at the cost of a special attack drop, the latter provides a passive form of recovery despite the lower power output (Fluff. The first sentence just explained the use of STAB moves and the second has no meta-relevant substance. Mention instead that the increased power of Leaf Storm snags OHKOs on Piloswine and Gurdurr after they're hit by a Knock Off, but Giga Drain is considered for its reliability). Sludge Bomb allows Tangela to take care of Grass- and Fairy Flying-types such as Thwackey and Clefairy Vullaby. (Clefairy is already losing out to Knock Off + Leaf Storm. Vullaby and Togetic are much more afraid of Sludge Bomb) Knock Off is important to get rid of Eviolite from bulkier threats like Galarian Corsola and Golbat, that Tangela may have a hard time dealing with (Fluff, also g-corsola is preyed on by knock + leaf storm and Tangela never has a hard time vs it). Status options in Sleep Powder and Stun Spore can be used to help against offensive threats such as Gurdurr and defensive threats such as Golbat, which Tangela struggles to deal with punish Golbat and Lampent (Fluff, and Tangela already hits everything with its previous coverage, and status is almost solely for Golbat and opportunistic offensive switch-ins like Lampent or Magmar that might try to come in on Leaf Storm / Knock). Eviolite and an amazing ability in Regenerator, when paired with its great bulk, gives Tangela extreme longevity. (Fluff) Tangela appreciates Fire- and Fighting-type teammates like Raboot and Gurdurr that deal with Steel-types such as Ferroseed which Tangela struggles against, while Tangela in return helps the former by dealing with the aforementioned Ground- and Water-types. Tangela also appreciates special defensive walls such as Klang and Mareanie as teammates, to make up for its lackluster Special Defense stat.
