OU Tapu Bulu [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

Status
Not open for further replies.
[Overview]

Tapu Bulu separates itself from other offensive Grass-types thanks to its high Attack stat, Terrain-boosted Horn Leech, and strong coverage in Close Combat and Stone Edge to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Zapdos, defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz. Its strong defensive typing lets it check Landorus-T, Urshifu-R, and Zeraora. Grassy Terrain provides it with some form of longevity and mitigates Life Orb’s recoil; furthermore, many teammates appreciate the passive recovery and weakening of Earthquake. However, Tapu Bulu often struggles to compete with Rillaboom for a team slot, as it offers priority in Grassy Glide and can support its teammates with Knock Off and U-turn. Tapu Bulu's middling Speed tier also gives it issues when setting up against offensive teams and lets many faster threats force it out.

[SET COMMENTS]

Horn Leech is Tapu Bulu's most effective STAB move, as its recovery offsets Life Orb recoil and is very strong under Grassy Terrain. Close Combat allows Tapu Bulu to hit Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn. Stone Edge is great coverage to hit Pokemon that resist its other moves like Zapdos, defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz. Life Orb guarantees OHKOs at +2 on Mandibuzz and defensive Dragonite when Multiscale is inactive. Leftovers is an alternative over Life Orb, as it stacks with Grassy Terrain for better longevity, though the reduced damage is very noticeable. Jolly is the preferred nature to allow it to be faster than defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, but Adamant is also an option for more damage output. An EV spread of 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe can be used along with an Adamant nature, which makes Tapu Bulu faster than positive nature Aegislash and Magnezone, while the HP gives it an extra point of recovery while Grassy Terrain is up.

Tapu Bulu best fits on offense and bulky offense teams in need of a strong wallbreaker that can offensively check the likes of Landorus-T, Zeraora, and Urshifu-R. Heatran takes on Volcarona and Corviknight while also setting Stealth Rock. In return, Tapu Bulu checks Water-types such as Urshifu-R and Slowking while providing Terrain support. Volcarona, Heatran, and Tornadus-T can threaten Tapu Bulu, so switch-ins for them such as Slowking and defensive Dragonite can cover for it while alleviating its pressure to check Urshifu-R. The former is also able to handle faster wallbreakers such as Tapu Lele and Tornadus-T, while the latter is able to provide Tapu Bulu Heal Bell support. Tapu Koko is able to lure in targets that Tapu Bulu takes advantage of like Ferrothorn and Hippowdon and bring it in with U-turn out while providing a great check to Tornadus-T. Magnezone can remove Corviknight and Skarmory so Tapu Bulu doesn't have to force its way past them, and it benefits from Grassy Terrain decreasing the damage of Earthquake. Kartana is a great partner alongside Tapu Bulu, overwhelming teams once Tapu Bulu removes Flying-types like Zapdos, defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz with its powerful coverage. Grassy Terrain also complements its Leaf Blade.

Other Options
====

Tapu Bulu can run Yache Berry so it can survive an Icicle Crash from Weavile and OHKO back, but its listed items are more useful. It can run a bulky set with maximum HP investment, some defensive investment, and a moveset of Swords Dance / Horn Leech / Close Combat / Synthesis, which allows for a sturdy offensive check to the likes Urshifu-R, Garchomp, Zeraora, and Tapu Koko.

Checks and Counters
====

**Physical Walls**: Though Corviknight, Skarmory, and Tangrowth don't like directly switching into Tapu Bulu, they are good checks even when Tapu Bulu is boosted. Corviknight can pressure Tapu Bulu with Brave Bird, while Skarmory can phaze it with Whirlwind. Tangrowth can weaken it with Knock Off and chip it down with Rocky Helmet. However, they can easily be overloaded due to Tapu Bulu’s high Base Power coverage and boosted strength. Buzzwole is a big roadblock for Tapu Bulu, able to take any hits after a boost and force it out with Ice Punch or recover with Roost.

**Faster Offensive Threats**: Tapu Bulu's Speed tier leaves it vulnerable to faster Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Volcarona, Kartana, and Weavile, which can force it out.

**Chip Damage**: Stealth Rock and Spikes constantly chip down Tapu Bulu, and its lack of reliable recovery outside of bulky sets makes it get worn down easily. U-turn from Pokemon it otherwise beats such as Landorus-T and Urshifu-R can cause further chip damage, leaving it prone to being overwhelmed in trying to check them. Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs also wear it down.

[Overview]

With a great attack stat, access to good coverage moves, and a good defensive typing makes mention this later onTapu Bulu an amazing wallbreaker in the OU Metagame with defensive qualities that lets it offensively It can check them defensively too barring Fire Fang chomp so you can just say that it can just say it checks them instead of saying it can offensively check them check Landorus-T and Garchomp with Grassy Terrain providing it a form of longevity. Tapu Bulu wallbreaking capabilities are boosted from Swords Dance and Life Orb boosting up its decent attack stat even higher. fluff With Close Combat and Stone Edge gives Tapu Bulu to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Volcarona, and Zapdos. Tapu Bulu's typing gives it some defensive utility in being able to check Urshifu-R, Zeraora, and Landours-T. Mention how this is temporary since it lacks recovery and how this can be useful to more offensive teams However Tapu Bulu struggles in breaking against Corviknight and Skarmory who aren't weak to Close Combat Not true they both get 2hkod by CC at +2, and it speed tier let it get outsped by Heatran. Tapu Bulu face competition with Rillaboom with its access to a great priority move under Grassy Terrain in Grassy Glide, while also having great utility moves in Knock Off and U-Turn.
Ok mention how it can enable other offensive pokemon like sd weav or kartana with its ability to effectively remove shared checks well. Also mention how its weak to faster breakers with its low speed tier and lack of priority leading to it being forced out often.

[SET COMMENTS]

Horn Leech is preferred stab move being able to recover the health loss from Life Orb's recoil, while still being able to deal out good amount of damage from the boost of Grassy Terrain. However, Wood Hammer can be used over Horn Leech for even greater power though it comes at a cost in losing your health even more along with Life Orb's recoil damage Does Wood hammer do more damage against anything specific?. Close Combat allows Tapu Bulu as it allows it to hit Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn. Stone Edge is a great coverage for Tapu Bulu able to hit Pokemon that resist its other move slots like Volcarona, Zapdos, and Tornadus-T while also avoiding making contact against the former two. Not rlly nescessary since it implies that theres a way that it can deal with these while making contact which isnt true. Life Orb is used to maximize the wallbreaking potential that Tapu Bulu has in conjunction with Swords Dance. Jolly is the preferred nature which allows it to be faster than defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, while an Adamant nature can be run increasing it's overall damage output if the speed creep isn't required.

Tapu Bulu best fits on balanced offensive and bulky offensive teams that are in need of a strong wallbreaker that can offensively check against the likes of Landorus-T and Garchomp Balance can afford better checks to these mons and doesnt often go for tapu bulu. Magnezone and Heatran are phenomenal partners for Tapu Bulu where they are able to trap and remove Corviknight and Skarmory for Tapu Bulu, whereas the latter is able to switch into attack from Volcarona reliably, both of them also enjoy the grassy terrain support provided. Bulky Water-types such as Toxapex and the Slowtwinsking are able to cover Tapu Bulu's fire weakness against Heatran and Volcarona, while also elevating its pressure in checking Urshifu-R Slowbro cant rlly check heatran or volcarona so bad mention, although you can mention bulky ddnite over it since it still checks heatran/volc/urshifu-r while not being slowbro. Pex is also kinda a bad check to these mons so you could honestly remove it. Slowking in particular pairs well for handling Tapu Bulu's weakness against Nidoking and Tapu Lele while providing support with Future Sight and a slow pivot, where Tapu Bulu can handle Zeraora and Tapu Koko for it. Pivots such as Corviknight, Rotom-W, Slowtwins, and Dragapult are all able to bring in Tapu Bulu in safely. You already mention Slowking in the last slot also i wouldnt rlly use tapu bulu as a check to zeraora since it cant do this very reliably.
I wanna see mentions of Kartana since it and Tapu Bulu pair v well, since Kartana can abuse tapu bulu's ability to remove birds.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Tapu Bulu can choose to running a SubSeed set which helps it deal against Corviknight and Skarmory along with chipping down other bulkier targets that full offensive Tapu Bulu cannot pressure, while also maintaining staying healthy in conjuction with Grassy Terrain's passive recovery. Havent used this set enough, ill leave it to the second checker.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fire-Types**: Heatran and Volcarona are able to resist Tapu Bulu Stabs while also outspeeding and can force it out with their STAB moves. However they have to be warry of coverage moves Close Combat for the former, and Stone Edge for the latter.

**Flying-Types**: Tornadus-T and Zapdos both are able to take hit from Tapu Bulu's stabs and can pressure it with Hurricane and Heat Wave respectively, though they both cannot switch into a Stone Edge. Corviknight and Skarmory are able to takes hits from Tapu Bulu while also wearing it down with Rocky Helmet, and potentially remove Grassy Terrain with Defog from the former.

You could probably merge these into one point about grass resists. also add points about revenge killers and chip damage.

QC 1/2, lemme know when implemented tho i wanna take a look.

Doing what I do and throwing a nifty EV spread up in here, and one that I've seen folks like Finch use. 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spd (if Adamant).
  • 32 HP hits 289 HP, which is a REALLY cool number. It's both a LO number (ends in 9), and a "Leftovers / Grassy Terrain" number ([divisible by 16] +1) to recover back a bonus hit point when the terrain is up.
  • 224 Speed hits 242 Speed, outrunning +nature Aegislash and Magnezone, and Adamant Bisharp (and 4 Spe Garchomp, but who cares about that, and we have to do either min or max for creep reasons). There are no notable minimum- or maximum-speed EV threats between 241 Speed and 249 Speed. Technically it could be 220 EVs to outrun those first three I mentioned... but I'd say keep it simple instead of tossing a random 4 somewhere. The HP is very specific so it couldn't be just dumped there.
  • 252 Atk for stronk
EDIT: I suppose I should specify this is with Adamant. I only just noticed it was using a Jolly nature in the main spread.
EDIT2: and yup, with Jolly there isn't really a way to make the 32 HP thing work without cutting Attack for no reason. It needs to be basically max Speed to outrun Def Zapdos and Rilla (though I don't know if you can specifically mention 40 Spe+ Def Zapdos, since that starts the whole Speed creep thing).
Also low-key trying to make AV with Darkest Lariat work, but that's still a personal experiment of mine. AV Bulu is fire.

[Overview]

With a great attack stat, access to Grassy Surge alongside a good defensive typing and coverage moves makes Tapu Bulu an amazing wallbreaker in OU with its defensive typing giving defensive qualities that lets it check Landorus-T with Grassy Terrain while also providing it a form of longevity. This is really wordy so hopefully this should make it a bit better. With Close Combat and Stone Edge gives it an edge Tapu Bulu to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Volcarona, and Zapdos. Volcarona is a really weird mention since it will literally never hard switch into Tapu Bulu and it can easily outspeed and murder it with Flamethrower; I'd prefer to see defensive Dragonite and/or Mandibuzz mentioned instead. I'd also like to hear why its specific coverage options are so prominent for it as a wallbreaker; why does this matter, more or less. Tapu Bulu's typing gives it some defensive utility in being able to check Urshifu-R, Zeraora, and Landours-T, though this is temporary temporary due to lack of recovery, and is useful for offensive teams for this trait. You kind of already said this, I feel like you can easily combine this sentence with the first bullet point, at least as far as its defensive typing goes, or move it down to here. Tapu Bulu can enable for other offensive Pokemon such as Swords Dance Weavile and Kartana to overwhelm their shared checks well. I don't really think this point is too relevant to Tapu Bulu itself, or at least the way you word it makes it seem less specific to Tapu Bulu and more just a general point. However Tapu Bulu's middling speed tier lets it get outspeed by faster Pokemon that can force it out. Tapu Bulu also faces competition from other offensive Grass-types like Rillaboom and Kartana which have benefits of access to Knock Off and priority or a better speed tier.

Horn Leech is preferred stab move being able to recover the health loss from Life Orb's recoil, while still being able to deal out good amount of damage from the boost of Grassy Terrain. Close Combat allows Tapu Bulu to hit Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn. Stone Edge is a great coverage for Tapu Bulu able to hit Pokemon that resist its other move slots like Volcarona, Zapdos, and Tornadus-T. Tornadus-T and Volcarona are going to kill it before Bulu can kill them anyway so I think just saying Zapdos, defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz get the job done. Life Orb is used to maximize the wallbreaking potential that Tapu Bulu has in conjunction with Swords Dance. Is this prominent for any specific reason? Jolly is the preferred nature which allows it to be faster than Defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, while an Adamant nature can be run increasing it's overall damage output if the speed creep isn't required. Is this prominent in any way?

Tapu Bulu best fits on offensive and bulky offensive teams that are in need of a strong wallbreaker that can offensively check against the likes of Landorus-T and Urshifu-R. Magnezone is able to trap Skarmory and Corviknight for Tapu Bulu making it a lot easier for Tapu Bulu to break teams easier, it also compliments the damage of Earthquake reduced from Grassy Terrain. I mean, this is something that's only really the case when they Roost, so it's kind of situational. Heatran is a phenomenal partners for Tapu Bulu that is able to remove Steel and Grass types for it, and can also switch into moves from Volcarona. Mentioning that Heatran can use Tapu Bulu's checks as a Magma Storm/status spreading opportunity is really prominent I think, since this is the key reason that makes them actually work well together. The Grassy terrain provided from Tapu Bulu benefits Heatran with some passive recovery and a decrease damage from Earthquake. Volcarona and Heatran can be annoying to Tapu Bulu, so switchins into them such as Slowking and Defensive Dragonite are able to cover Tapu Bulu's fire weakness against Heatran and Volcarona, while also elevating its pressure in having to check Urshifu-R. Heatran gets its shit kicked in by Close Combat, so this is only really relevant if Tapu Bulu is running Adamant and is against offensive Heatran specifically. Mentioning Tornadus-T and Volcarona here instead makes much more sense than when you mentioned it for Stone Edge targets since they are some pretty prominent revenge killers. You could also mention Tapu Koko if you're inclined since Tapu Koko pivots against a lot of prime targets like Ferrothorn, while providing a very great check to Tornadus-T. The former is able to handle against faster wall breakers such as Tapu Lele and Tornadus-T, while the latter is able to provide Heal Bell support in case Tapu Bulu ever gets statused. Kartana is a great partner alongside Tapu Bulu as it abuse Tapu Bulu’s ability to remove Flying-types and can then overwhelm teams once they have been removed, while also complementing Grassy Terrain increasing the attack of its grass stabs. Tapu Bulu's super powerful coverage also really helps a lot against Zapdos, Mandibuzz, and defensive Dragonite which Kartana is really inconvenienced by.

**Grass Resist**: Heatran, Volcarona, Tornadus-T, and Zapdos are able to resist Tapu Bulu Stabs and can force it out with their own moves respectively. However they have to be warry of coverage moves such as Close Combat for the former, and Stone Edge for the latter. Corviknight, Skarmory, and Tangrowth are able to takes hits from Tapu Bulu while also wearing it down with Rocky Helmet. I like just rewording this to Physical walls and emphasizing the matchups against Corvi/Skarm/Tang. Like I said, none of these Pokemon are raw switching into it, and Heatran/Zapdos get blown up by its coverage so them being Grass-type resists is meaningless. This is only really prominent with Torn-T/Volc which should never be switching hard into Tapu Bulu anyway.

**Revenge Killers**: Since Tapu Bulu poor speed tier leaves it vulnerable by revenge killers such as Tornadus-T, Kartana, and Weavile who are much faster and can easily force Tapu Bulu out. Volcarona is a fine mention here too.

**Chip Damage**: Stealth Rocks and Spikes constantly chip down Tapu Bulu and the lack of reliable recovery makes it get worn down easily. Tapu Bulu also actually hates dealing with U-turn against Landorus-T and Urshifu-R, which can further chip it and put it into a really disadvantageous position before just being prone to being overwhelmed.

[Overview]

With a great attack stat, access to Grassy Surge alongside a good defensive typing to check Landorus-T, Zeraora, and Urshifu-R and access to good coverage moves makes Tapu Bulu is a very solid an amazing wallbreaker in OU with its defensive typing giving defensive qualities that lets it check Landorus-T, Urshifu-R, and Zeraora with Grassy Terrain while also providing it some longevity and mitigating Life Orb recoil. I feel like this point needs to be made into its own sentence, with a greater emphasis on how it and its typing can be used to find boosting opportunities. Also edited a couple things here as well, namely a point on Life Orb recoil. Though this is temporary due to the lack of direct recovery, and can be useful for offensive teams that appreaciate this trait. This is fluff and isn't really necessary. Additionally, the "temporary" thing can easily be made into a negative trait, which you can easily mention at the bottom of the overview. With Close Combat and Stone Edge gives it an edge for Tapu Bulu to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz, and it specifc coverage options are prominent for it as a walbreaker for it's ability in breaking past through it so called switchins because of its coverage. Redundant information. I feel like something that could really help to emphasize this point is to mention the strength of its Grassy Terrain-boosted STAB, and how these high power coverage moves take heavy advantage of a majority of conventional Horn Leech answers, even those take the hits neutrally due to Tapu Bulu's strength.

Stone Edge is a great coverage for Tapu Bulu able to hit Pokemon that resist its other move slots like Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz. Life Orb is used to maximize the wallbreaking potential that Tapu Bulu has in conjunction with Swords Dance, ensuring it can get the guaranteed OHKO on Mandibuzz and defensive Dragonite when Multiscale is inactive. Jolly is the preferred nature which allows it to be faster than Defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, while an Adamant nature can be run increasing its overall damage output if the speed creep isn't required against Rillaboom and Defensive Zapdos.

I personally think Magnezone as a primary mention is kind of whatever. Tapu Bulu has the strength to beat down Corviknight and chipped Skarmory especially with Close Combat being far more spammable than Superpower; I'd move this down near the bottom and mainly emphasize how Magnezone makes these matchups require less direct progress on the birds since it can just outright remove them. Heatran is a phenomenal partners for Tapu Bulu that is able to remove Steel and Grass types for it, and can also switch into moves from Volcarona, and can use Tapu Bulu's checks to trap them with Magma Storm, while also being able to find status spreading opporutinity wearing them down leaving them in range of Tapu Bulu's attack. This is far too wordy. You can easily just say "Heatran is a good partner that is capable of taking advantage of Tapu Bulu's checks like [examples] for progress enforcing opportunities with Magma Storm, hazard setting, or status spreading, which can make Tapu Bulu's job easier." Way simpler and you get the point across far more concisely. The Grassy terrain provided from Tapu Bulu benefits Heatran with some passive recovery and a decrease damage from Earthquake. Volcarona and Tornadus-T can be annoying to Tapu Bulu, so switchins into them such as Slowking and Defensive Dragonite are able to cover Tapu Bulu's fire weakness against Heatran and Volcarona, while also elevating its pressure in having to check Urshifu-R. The former is able to handle against faster wall breakers such as Tapu Lele and Tornadus-T, while the latter is able to provide Heal Bell support in case Tapu Bulu ever gets statused. While their terrains will overlap Tapu Koko is able to lure in targets that Tapu Bulu takes advantage of like Ferrothorn, while providing a great check to Tornadus-T for Tapu Bulu. Kartana is a great partner alongside Tapu Bulu as it abuses Tapu Bulu’s ability to remove Flying-types with its powerful coverage helps against Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz, which then opens up Kartana who can then overwhelm teams once they have been removed, while also complementing Grassy Terrain increasing the attack of its grass stabs.

**Physical Walls**: Though Corviknight, Skarmory, and Tangrowth cannot directly switch into Tapu Bulu, they are good checks even when Tapu Bulu is boosted. they can take a hit from Tapu Bulu and recover the damage loss with Roost and Regenarator. This gets the point across; no clue what you were trying to do with what I crossed out. Corviknight can stall out the pp of Close Combat Tapu Bulu's move with Pressure and Roost, while Skarmory can potentially remove Tapu Bulu's Boost with Whirlwind. Tangrowth is able to remove Tapu Bulu's Life Orb decreasing the power it can do, while also chipping down Tapu Bulu's health whenever making contact with Rocky Helmet. I think mentioning that these Pokemon are able to take hits and whittle it down/threaten it out with their bulk is the main takeaway here. Also saying that they can be easily overloaded due to Tapu Bulu's high BP coverage and boosted strength is important too.

**Revenge Killers**: Since Tapu Bulu poor speed tier leaves it vulnerable by revenge killers such as Tornadus-T, Volcarona, Kartana, and Weavile who are much faster and can easily force Tapu Bulu out.

**Chip Damage**: Stealth Rocks and Spikes constantly chip down Tapu Bulu and the lack of reliable recovery makes it get worn down easily. U-Turn from Pokemon it otherwise beats such as Landorus-T and Urshifu-R can cause further chip damage to Tapu Bulu and leave it at a disadvantage position making it prone in being overlwhelmed in trying to check them as well.

[Overview]

Tapu Bulu separates itself from other offensive grasses through thanks to its high attack stat, Terrain boosted Horn Leech, and its access to strong coverage moves in Close Combat and Stone Edge giving it an edge for Tapu Bulu which allows it to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz which lets Tapu Bulu take advantage of them for switching into Grassy-terrain boosted Grass-Type STAB, even against those that take hits neutrally due to Tapu Bulu’s sheer strength (gonna be honest i'm not sure what youre trying to say here). Tapu Bulu is a fine wallbreaker in OU with its Its Strong defensive typing and Grassy Terrain giving gives it defensive qualities that lets it check Landorus-T, Urshifu-R, and Zeraora. with Grassy Terrain while also providing provides it some form of longevity and mitigating mitigates Life Orb’s recoil. (Team support for terrain should be mentioned. something like:) Furthermore, many potential teammates appreciate the passive recovery and weakening of Earthquake. However Tapu Bulu suffers from a multitude of problems; it often struggles to compete with Rillaboom for a team slot, as it offers priority in Grass Glide and can support its teammates with Knock Off and U-Turn. (Middling speed is also an issue that needs to be mentioned. It can also have trouble setting up vs offensive team structures so please mention that.)

Horn Leech is preferred stab move being able to recover the health loss from Life Orb's recoil, while still being able to deal out good amount of damage from the boost of Grassy Terrain. is Tapu Bulu's most effective STAB move, as its recovery offsets Life Orb recoil and is very strong under Grassy Terrain. Close Combat allows Tapu Bulu to hit Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn. Leftovers is an alternative over Life Orb as it gives additional recovery along with Grassy Terrain for better longetitivity longevity, though it comes in sacrificing the power of Life Orb missing out in breaking Mandibuzz and Defensive Dragonite the reduced damage is very noticeable. Jolly is the preferred nature which allows it to be faster than Defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, while an Adamant nature can be run increasing it's overall damage output if the speed creep isn't required against Rillaboom and Defensive Zapdos (redundant). An EV spread of 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe can be used along with Adamant Nature, which allows Tapu Bulu be faster than Positive nature Aegislash and Magnezone, while the HP gives it an extra point of recovery while Grassy Terrain is Up.

Tapu Bulu best fits on offensive and bulky offensive teams that are in need of a strong wallbreaker that can offensively check against the likes of Landorus-T, Garchomp, and Urshifu-R. Heatran is a good partner for Tapu Bulu that is able to take advantage of it checks such as Volcarona and Zapdos which can make progress enforcing opportunities with Magma Storm, setting up hazards, or status spreading which can make Tapu Bulu’s job easier. The Grassy terrain provided from Tapu Bulu benefits Heatran with some passive recovery and a decrease damage from Earthquake takes on Volcarona and Corviknight while also setting up Stealth Rock. In return, Tapu Bulu checks Water-types such as Urshifu-R and Slowking while providing terrain support. While their terrains will overlap (unnecessary)Tapu Koko is able to lure in targets that Tapu Bulu takes advantage of like Ferrothorn and U-turn out, while providing a great check to Tornadus-T for Tapu Bulu. Magnezone is able to remove Corviknight and Skarmory which makes the matchup require a less direct approach for Tapu Bulu, and benefits the Grassy Terrain provided decreasing the damage of Eathquake.

QC and I spoke about OO for Bulu. We came to the consensus that Yache Berry on the offensive set is worth a mention here, and SubSeed needs to be removed. In addition, Bulky SD with max HP and some defensive investment needs a mention here. Moveset of SD/Horn Leech/CC/Synthesis. It provides a sturdy offensive check to things like Shifu, Chomp, Zera, Koko, etc. I'll trust you to write this how you want, but I'll direct you to a WCoP replay where Eo used it to great effect if you want a reference: (https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen8ou-567007)

Checks and Counters
====

**Physical Walls**: Though Corviknight, Skarmory, and Tangrowth cannot directly switch into Tapu Bulu, they are good checks even when Tapu Bulu is boosted. Corviknight can stall out the pp of Close Combat with Pressure and Roost ( +2 252 Atk Life Orb Tapu Bulu Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Corviknight: 255-300 (63.7 - 75%) -- Corv is gonna lose that 1v1 if it doesn't have Brave Bird. Change it accordingly), while Skarmory can potentially remove Tapu Bulu's Boost with Whirlwind. Tangrowth is able to remove Tapu Bulu's Life Orb decreasing the power it can do, while also chipping down Tapu Bulu's health whenever making contact with Rocky Helmet. These Pokémon are able to take hits and whittle down Tapu Bulu with their bulk, though they can easily be overloaded due to Tapu Bulu’s high base power coverage and boosted strength.

**Revenge Killers**: Since Tapu Bulu poor speed tier leaves it vulnerable by revenge killers such as Tornadus-T, Volcarona, Kartana, and Weavile who are much faster and can easily force Tapu Bulu out. (I'd just change the wording to faster Pokemon. Base 75 speed isn't fast and theres a lot of mons out there faster.)

(add a mention of Rocky Helmet/Rough Skin/Iron Barbs here)

[Overview]

Tapu Bulu separates itself from other offensive grasses thanks to its High attack stat, Terrain boosted Horn Leech, and strong coverage in Close Combat and Stone Edge giving it an edge for Tapu Bulu to break past its would-be checks like Ferrothorn, Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz. Its strong defensive typing gives it defensive qualities that lets it check Landorus-T, Urshifu-R, and Zeraora. Grassy Terrain provides it some form of longevity and mitigates Life Orb’s recoil, furthermore many teammates appreciate the passive recovery and weakening of Earthquake. However Tapu Bulu suffers from a multitude of problems; it often struggles to compete with Rillaboom for a team slot, as it offers priority in Grass Glide and can support its teammates with Knock Off and U-Turn. Tapu Bulu's middling speed tier also gives it issues when setting up against offensive structure teams and can be forced out by faster threats because of it.

Horn Leech is Tapu Bulu's most effective STAB move, as it recovery offsets Life Orb recoil and is very strong under Grassy Terrain. Close Combat allows Tapu Bulu to hit Steel-types such as Heatran and Ferrothorn. Stone Edge is a great coverage for Tapu Bulu to hit Pokemon that resist its other move slots like Zapdos, Defensive Dragonite, and Mandibuzz. Life Orb is used to maximize the wallbreaking potential that Tapu Bulu has in conjunction with Swords Dance, ensuring it can get the guaranteed OHKO on Mandibuzz and Defensive Dragonite when Multiscale is inactive. Leftovers is an alternative over Life Orb as it gives additional recovery along with Grassy Terrain for better longevity, though the reduced damage is very noticeable. Jolly is the preferred nature which allows it to be faster than Defensive Zapdos and neutral nature Rillaboom, while an Adamant nature can be run increasing it's overall damage output. An EV spread of 32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spe can be used along with Adamant Nature, which allows Tapu Bulu be faster than Positive nature Aegislash and Magnezone, while the HP gives it an extra point of recovery while Grassy Terrain is Up.

Zeraora is a better mention here, esp since it gives offense trouble. That's my bad) and Urshifu-R. Heatran takes on Volcarona and Corviknight while also setting up Stealth Rocks. In return Tapu Bulu checks Water-types such as Urshifu-R and Slowking while providing terrain support.
