The guardian deity of Akala island serves as an anchor for Psychic spam teams in DOU! One of two Pokemon with access to Psychic Surge, it plays more offensively than the support-oriented Indeedee-F. As a result, Necrozma is a natural partner since it is significantly more threatening under Psychic Terrain and appreciates Tapu Lele's Moonblast threatening Mew and Incineroar, which are two common checks to Necrozma. Moonblast also deals a good amount of damage outside of Psychic Terrain, allowing it to weaken opposing Terrain setters like Rillaboom and Tapu Fini. Tapu Lele's offensive nature allows it to function well on more aggressive archetypes, where its ability to block Fake Out is appreciated by common attackers on those teams like Urshifu-R and Dragon Dance Kyurem-B. Tapu Lele enjoys Landorus and Heatran as partners due to both of them handling Steel-types with relative ease, while Tailwind support from the likes of Naganadel and Zapdos is helpful to beat Pokemon who would otherwise outspeed and threaten Tapu Lele such as Urshifu-R and Dragapult.

Moonblast also allows Tapu Lele to deal deals a good amount of damage even when Psychic Terrain isn't active outside of Psychic Terrain, allowing it to weaken opposing terrain Terrain setters like Rillaboom and Tapu Fini much easier.
