Team based around Mega Mawile

Hey all! This is my first 6th Gen Team that I've actually put some thought into. Unfortunately, for some reason Showdown isn't working for me atm, so I haven't really been able to test it out but I think it could work pretty well.

Mawile @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Play Rough

Send it in on physical attacker that isn't fire/ground typing and get off an Intimidate, force a switch and Mega Evolve with an SD. With the Huge Power boost his attack goes through the roof. Chose Iron Head as another stab move with a good base power, plus the chance of flinching doesn't hurt either.

Talonflame @ Flying Gem
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Flare Blitz
- Roost
- Swords Dance

Talonflame covers both of Mawile's weaknesses, being immune to Ground and Fire being NVE. I wanted something fast that could hit hard, and having the priority Flying Gem Boosted Acrobatics can heavily hurt anything that doesn't resist it. Debated between SD and Bulk Up, finally decided on SD just to skyrocket that attack. Flare Blitz wrecks house and I have Roost to recover off the recoil damage.

Donphan @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Def
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Head Smash
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake

With Talonflame being 4x weak to rocks, I needed a spinner. I had considered Forretress, but I didn't want another Fire weakness on my team so Donphan was my next choice. Having priority can make or a break a team IMO. EQ/Head Smash makes devestating QuakeEdge combo.

Gourgeist-Super @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Careful Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Will-O-Wisp
- Seed Bomb
- Pain Split

My spinblocker of choice. Most rapid-spinners are physical attackers so a WoW can cripple those in one shot. Shadow Sneak again for priority + STAB with Seed Bomb as another damaging move. Pain Split to help out keeping him alive. I'm on the fence about him or Trevenant, who might be a better choice with Harvest/Sitrus Berry combined with SubSeed.

Alakazam @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam

The only Special Attacker on my team, and I wanted one that could hit hurt. Amazing coverage with all four moves, as well as being fast enough to outspeed most things, and even those that do outspeed won't be able to OHKO thanks to the Sash.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
- Waterfall
- Play Rough

Another physical attacker with monstrous attack, only this time let's slap a Choice Band on top of it. I mostly chose Azumarill as an Ice resistance for Donphan and Gourgeist, but this thing is a monster. Huge Power/CB Aqua Jet will destroy most in it's path, and what doesn't could get wrecked by any of the other moves.

First off, Mawile has no reason to run foul play. It does too much damage by itself to actually worry about that. And I believe it has access to crunch if you REALLY wanted double dark coverage (it for sure gets bite).

I'm a supporter of SD Talon simply because I find myself countering talon with bulky waters to begin with and so my attacks would be in form of hydro pump and volt switch (TF premier counter being rotom-wash with restochesto). It is, though, preference.

Lately, I've found dual attack donphan to work better than rock setter donphan (and when I say dual attack, I generally am not including ice shard's miniscule damage). I suggest head smash over either ice shard or stealth rocks. This makes it another really good talonflame counter (Losing rocks, of course) and a good stop to galvantula and the buggers trying to use sticky web. Between a rock and ground stab, you're effectively running a more devastating edgequake combo (Unless it's a rock/ground user, in which case tie game... But who uses gollem anyways?).

I was thinking the same thing about gourgeist, but treevant is not loving switching into attacks. He comes in on free turns to sub up because he can be screwed up very well if he loses that berry. Bug bite scizor is my general counter to him, and/or some knock off/thief user. But I wouldn't even bother with a spinblocker, you only have rocks and if they wanted, they could just use defog on you.

Other than that, not a bad team on paper.

Thanks! I made changes you requested in bold, but what would you suggest swapping out Gourgeist for since I don't need a spinblocker?

Hmm, being based around mega mawile, you're missing something to heal burns and/or pass health. Whichever you find more of an issue. Mawile doesn't mind burns if it can get to +2 so much, but you really do miss a ton of power. At +2 without burns, you could almost KO the whole tier, but with a burn you're back to 2hkos on some bulkier pokes.

Probably a second special attacker that can take eq and fire moves. Generally, that combo doesn't go well together because the two eq type resists are also weak to fire, but levitate/flying can help... Though flying puts more stress on donphan. Perhaps latias, who can pass wishes, defog (I believe) and wall off fire/ground (using surf to hit back) and even absorb statuses to redistribute by having a move like psycho shift. But from here, I'd suggest actually field testing the team as I can't see all the weaknesses. You're going to run some issues with dark/bug/ghost having two psychics, but they look well covered with mawile/azumarill... Just leaving ghost as a potential weak point.

Having max Speed EVs on Talonflame is useless, in my opinion, since it has priority in Flying type moves. However, you're still going to want a good portion of those EVs around to outpace other priority move users, such as Azumarill and Mega Kangaskhan. I recommend going with 88 HP/252 Atk/168 Spe. The Speed will still be of service to you, and the HP will keep your bird alive longer when using Flare Blitz and Roost.
