PROLOGUE

Long ago, a man's fantasy became a reality in a form never seen before: Kitchen Coliseum, a giant arena where chefs can cook up new original Pokemon teams and see them tested. The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Coliseum was to encounter new original teams which could be called true artistic creations.

To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of battling, and he named his men the Iron Chefs. These Iron Chefs possess invincible culinary skills, and they are:

INTRODUCTION
Hello, everyone! Chairman Euphonos here, and welcome to this iteration of Iron Chef in the Other Metagames Subforum, this time in its traditional upscale version! This project allows the contestants to showcase their creative team building skills and to put their masterful creations to the test against some of the top builders in the realm of Camomons. Each round I will pick a motif to build around, and contestants will do their best to come up with an original, effective team around that theme.

The mechanics of the project will be shown below, so please take time to read everything.

. . . . . . . . . .

MECHANICS

There are three phases every episode: the first phase being Team Building which will last for three days, the second phase being Challenging Iron Chefs which will last for two days; the final phase being Judging and Voting, which will last for two days. Once third phase is over, there will be a tiny portion of the round devoted to the Awarding of Winners which will then transition to the next episode. This season will have nine episodes, hence it will be run for nine weeks.

PHASE 1: TEAM BUILDING
  • At the beginning of each episode, a secret ingredient will be revealed. Contestants have until a certain time (posted in the secret ingredients post) to build around this secret ingredient, which may be a core, a team concept, or a theme. The team must be submitted to the Chairman through the Conversations section of Smogon Forums.
    • The Chairman will reply whether the team has been approved or there are missing elements that need adding.
    • Any article submitted elsewhere other than the Smogon Forums Conversations will not be accepted. The Chairman will notify participants for that matter.
  • Teams should be submitted in a standardized format. It should include the importable of your team followed by a brief description of how the team works.
  • Within this period, no Iron Chef battle should be taking place.

PHASE 2: CHALLENGING THE IRON CHEFS
  • Only the participants who have their teams approved are eligible to face any of the Iron Chefs available.
    • The Iron Chefs are NOT required to use the secret ingredient. Instead, they will push your team to its breaking point.
    • The Iron Chefs know the secret ingredient as well; better give them the surprise of their lives!
  • Battles must be played using the team that was sent to and consequently approved by the Chairman. Any discrepancies between teams may result in disqualification.
  • No win/loss post should be posted in this thread. Only the Iron Chefs will privately disseminate the battle replays for anonymity purposes.
  • Contestants may issue a challenge to more than one Iron Chef, but they may do so only once.

PHASE 3: JUDGING AND COMMUNITY VOTING
  • Once all battles are completed, the Chairman will reveal all of the teams without revealing the contestant's name and their corresponding battle replays.
  • Regardless of the outcome of the Iron Chef match(es), all teams sent to the Chairman are subject to evaluations and criticisms from the most esteemed Panel of Judges, and to voting from Iron Chefs, co-participants and third parties.
  • If contestants have a team submitted to and approved by the Chairman but didn't manage to issue a challenge on any of the Iron Chefs, contestants should go through the Chairman for a mandatory contingent Iron Chef battle, and regardless of the result of that match, they must face the consequence of getting a zero weighted average in the Iron Chef Battles aspect.
    • If, in any case, the contestant did not show up within the first twenty-four hours of the judging phase, the contestant's team will not be presented, and the contestant is barred from participating in one succeeding episode.

AWARDING OF WINNERS
  • At the end of the episode, all winners, along with their dishes, will be entered into our fabled Hall of Fame. These hallowed halls will show the best of the best, and be preserved for future rounds. Aside from awarding the OVERALL WINNER of each episode, there will three special awards that will be placed in the Hall of Fame as well. They are as follows:
    • THE MOST ORIGINAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Creativity category. People who have voted for that participant have witnessed how they made use of unorthodox selections that made significant work to the team.
    • THE MOST ESSENTIAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Essence category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how they strongly incorporated secret ingredients to the strength of the rest of the team.
    • THE BEST-TASTING DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Functionality category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how they play it to their strengths, and how they overcome any disadvantages in match-ups.
  • A participant who has garnered the highest average score and who has played at least three of the first five episodes (Ep. 1-5) or at least two of the last four episodes (Ep. 6-9) will be given an offer from the Chairman himself. This offer will depend on the situation of the current Staff (Iron Chef / Panel of Judges).

ADDITIONAL MECHANICS
  • In every episode (except for Episode 5), there will be an Iron Chef that will serve as one of the challengers; as such, contestants are not allowed to challenge that said Iron Chef. The Iron Chef who will be one of the participants will be revealed during Phase 2.
  • Participants may withdraw their submissions within Phase 1 without any penalty, but participants will be barred from participating in two succeeding episodes of this project when they withdraw their submissions in the middle of Phase 2 or 3 of an episode.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR TEAM? PLEASE READ BELOW!

https://pokepast.es/349998bf2837aae8
As much as possible, putting any other content (title, author, notes, nicknames) in the paste is discouraged.

When a minimum of three Psychic Pokemon before the Camomons mod is required, three Pokemon sprung into my mind: Victini, one of the most reliable users of a physical Electric attack through Bolt Strike; Necrozma, the most reliable Dragon/Fairy Pokemon taking hits while having Moonlight as its form of recovery; Azelf, one of the most potent Nasty Plot users. Based on my standard team building formula, I paired each of those three Pokemon with someone who can compound their capabilities extremely well, such as Volcanion to deal with fellow Fire/Electric types and deal with Dragons, Corviknight to cover the special side of things when Necrozma can't take it, and Garchomp to add that sweeping power Azelf can have.
This is where you should include your team's brief description.

Note that this is not an RMT article, so don't feel like you need to devote several lines of description for each Pokemon, but it is your responsibility to ensure that judges understand how your team functions. However, the Chairman is strictly enforcing the rule of having a brief description of the team in order to make the judging procedure a lot easier. As such, here are the guide questions for a meaningful description of your team (contestants may not opt to follow them):
  • What comes to your mind when the secret ingredient is revealed?
  • What is your thought process upon building your team?
  • Were there any prevalent issues upon building your team? How do you deal with those issues?
The Chairman will notify you whether the submission is eligible for challenging Iron Chefs; if not, you must comply to the changes the Chairman has given - non-compliance within the allotted time will forfeit your entry to the second phase.

IMPORTANT: Slashing items, moves, and other elements is not allowed. Whatever you sent to the Chairman must be the team you will be using in challenging the Iron Chefs.

HOW YOUR TEAMS BE EVALUATED? PLEASE READ BELOW!

A contestant's dish will be tabulated according to the following criteria:
  • JUDGE EVALUATIONS (60%) - This is based on the scores given by the panel of judges.
The Panel of Judges will use a certain system of evaluating contestants' dishes. The system is based on three separate categories in Creativity, Essence, and Functionality.
CREATIVITY (0-5 POINTS): Is your finished dish a delight never before tasted by our judges, or is it the same standard fare? Your goal is not to merely reheat an existing team, but to break boundaries and challenge standards. A team that was copied from an RMT or tournament with a few minor changes should score poorly here, while a team full of new ideas could bring home as many as five points.
ESSENCE (0-5 POINTS): How well does your team use this round's theme? Is it merely tacked on to satisfy the tournament's requirements, or is it a fundamental part of how the team works? A team that barely uses the round's theme could end up with nothing here, while a team that not only uses the theme but redefines might win it all.
FUNCTIONALITY (0-10 POINTS): And now we're down to the real meat of the dish. How good is the team? This category is worth twice as much as the other two, because in the end, it doesn't matter how original your dish is - if it doesn't taste good, then people won't eat it. A team that will struggle to succeed in the current metagame, even against mediocre teams, might receive a zero here. On the other hand, show the judges how great your team is, and you could take home a full ten points.
The Panel of Judges will determine the final scores through the conformity method where they either agree or disagree with the initial rates until a certain point is given.

  • COMMUNITY VOTING (30%) - The Other Metagames Community, including the Iron Chefs, are asked to pick two of the best teams in terms of the three aforementioned categories.
Regardless of the number of entries, the top pick for each category will receive 5 points, and the rest of the dishes will receive 1 point each. However, depending on the number of contestants in that episode, a 5-3-1 (for three to six) or 5-4-3-2-1 (for over seven) system may be implemented. The final score for the community voting will be tabulated according to the following categories:
  • CREATIVITY - 25%
  • ESSENCE - 25%
  • FUNCTIONALITY - 50%
A voting template will be given once Phase 2 is over.

  • BATTLE RECORDS (10%) - Wins and losses recorded by the contestants during a certain episode will be tabulated in this criterion.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Am I allowed to use "wildcards" (known as Pokemon that do not belong as a secret ingredient) in my team submissions?
A: Yes - provided that the secret ingredients don't use the entire team slot. For example, in the first episode of Iron Chef Camomons Deluxe wherein you need at least one Pokemon from each of the given colors as listed in the PokeDex (green, purple, pink, yellow), you can have Rillaboom (green), Noivern (purple), Blissey (pink), and Victini (yellow) alongside two other Pokemon that do no have any of those colors. There will be secret ingredients that will use the entire team which may discourage you to use wildcards; however, those secret ingredients will be diverse enough to still foster creative building for builders.

Good day, everyone! The first episode of Iron Chef has now commenced!

The secret ingredient for this inaugural episode is...

ADVENT WREATH!

The Advent Wreath is the vessel celebrating the Advent Season for Christians and Catholics: a liturgical tradition as a preparation for Christ's birth. The wreath bears numerous symbols to make way for Christ's birth: God's infinite love (wreath being circular), the "hope of eternal life brought by Jesus Christ" (wreath being usually made of evergreen leaves), penance for hope, peace, and love (purple candles), joy brought by people celebrating the birth of Christ (pink candle), and the "light of God coming into the world through Jesus Christ" (the lighting of candles, usually emanating a yellow flame).

To integrate this secret ingredient to your creations, you must feature at least one Pokemon from each color
as listed in the PokeDex: Green, Purple, Pink, and Yellow. Shiny colors don't count.

Participants have until
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 18, 7:30 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to Chairman Euphonos through the Conversation section of the Forums.

Please read how to submit your team here! | Feel free to talk Iron Chef-related stuff in this Discord server!

TIME IS UP!
My apologies for some slight delays caused by traveling from our province back to our home. With that, voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

The secret ingredient was fulfilled with a core containing four solid Pokemon: Corviknight (Purple), Blissey (Pink), Victini (Yellow), and Dragapult (Green). The rest of the team was filled out with Garchomp, a resilient Stealth Rock user, and Glastrier, a potent win condition, both having Rest to keep themselves alive whilst taking advantage of Blissey's Heal Bell to wake them up from slumber.

The team is featured around Comfey, one of the most underrated Calm Mind users in the metagame thanks to Triage-boosted Giga Drain and Draining Kiss. It is then paired with Corviknight to absorb Poison and Steel attacks that Comfey have real difficulty in dealing against. With Fire Pokemon being the most potent threat to the team, Victini is added to take such attacks, followed by placing Volcanion to aid Victini in absorbing Fire attacks as well; not to mention Corviknight + a Ground by virtue of Volcanion's Water/Ground combination happened to be one of the Camomons' most potent cores. Dark/Dragon Garchomp serves as a physical sweeper, while Poison/Fighting Slowbro finally fulfills the last of the secret ingredient serving as a physically defensive Knock Off absorber by virtue of Recycle and Jaboca Berry.

The team features two win conditions: Cosmic Power Jirachi and Nasty Plot Alakazam, both bearing a part-Ghost type by virtue of Shadow Ball. It is then coupled with Tyranitar serving two purposes: a Rock Polish attacker and a Counter user. Mesprit benefits from Tyranitar's Sand Stream and has a typing that, thanks to Levitate, makes it immune to what is supposedly be a quadruple Ground weakness. Drapion serves as a utility Pokemon through Knock Off and Toxic Spikes, while Dragapult serves as a disruptor by virtue of Substitute and Disable.

Pelipper and Drednaw sprung into mind when the secret ingredient has been revealed due to those Pokemon being listed as Yellow and Green respectively, as both of them are staples for a rain team. It is then coupled with Tsareena serving as an answer to Grass and Dragon Pokemon that these Water Pokemon have difficulty dealing against. Zapdos and Ferrothorn are also added to the team since they are also rain staples and help deal with the remaining Water resists which is Water itself. Finally, Blissey is slotted in as a defensive pivot and as a Dark and Ghost resist.

This team featured three Choiced attackers in an attempt to power past opposing threats and/or to disrupt walls with Trick. Victini and Rillaboom provide speed control with a Choice Scarf and priority attacking, respectively. Heatran gets Stealth Rock set to help the Choiced attackers break through foes. Clefable sets up with Calm Mind to clean up weakened teams.

. . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community (including the Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Functionality. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:
CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2
ESSENCE: Team 1, Team 3
FUNCTIONALITY: Team 4, Team 5

If you elect to put in the reasoning behind those votes (which the Chairman encourages but people may not opt to), please refer to this:
CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 1 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 4 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its functionality quite well!
2. Team 5 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
. . . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community has until
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 22, 7:30 AM EST
to cast a vote on this thread who has
the most original,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever put up this round!

ALLEZ, CUISINE!

I think team 2 is the most original one while being playable. Team 3 is original for sure but is also really bad and that overperform the rest imo.

TIME IS UP!
While the Panel of Judges are finalizing the scores (which will be revealed real soon), the Chairman has now revealed the secret ingredient for the second episode of Iron Chef! Now lift the domes!

WINTER SONGS!

"Winter Songs" is an album of winter and Christmas-inspired works composed by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, featuring choir, piano, and/or strings. Some of his works include "The Rose" with text from Christina Rossetti, a choral arrangement of "The First Nowell" and "Silent Night", and a non-choral work "First Snow".

So while we are going to celebrate Christmas through this album, participants must have a team including one of each of the following types after the Camomons mod: Grass, Fairy, Dark, and Ice. When you give a Pokemon a dual type with any of these four types, it counts as one of each; as such, you can have at most four wildcards for this episode.

Participants have until
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 25, 7:30 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to Chairman Euphonos through the Conversation section of the Forums.

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the delay, but now is the time for the big reveal!

This team belongs to StitChuu.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Glastrier is the only thing closest to the most creative option to his team and Garchomp with Scorching Sands is a nifty tool; otherwise, the rest of the team bears sets that have been definitely explored.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
The team constructed around the secret ingredient looks synergistic in theory; however, while they're proficient in what they actually do, this team actually shows Glastrier's huge drawbacks - most especially the Speed - that made it difficult to fit in such a core like this.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5 / 10
While the Heal Bell + Rest strategy is the most interesting strategy ever employed for this episode, the lack of momentum the team brings is a huge letdown, especially with the metagame trends being focused towards momentum. If that were the case, Blissey should be given a Stealth Rock + Teleport role, Garchomp should be given a sweeping role, and there should be probably another Special attacker (mostly a Specs user) to benefit from the momentum generation the core has. Still a good effort!

TOTAL SCORE: 10 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. This is one of the placeholder teams; as such, any result will not count towards the Iron Chefs' overall win/loss record.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
The inclusion of a sweeper Comfey, Substitute Volcanion, and an interesting Garchomp type combination make this team creative, despite the rest of the defensive core being fairly standard (apart from Jaboca Berry Slowbro).

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
This Comfey hands down exemplifies the essence of the secret ingredient. Half-meant jokes aside, the synergy between Comfey and the rest of the Pokemon as the secret ingredient really is fantastic, though Flash Fire Steel-types could actually pose a problem.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6.5 / 10
This happens to be one of the solid teams ever presented in this episode, as long as it can maintain so much momentum. One of the key flaws the team has is the lack of an entry hazard, which is quite tough without having to sacrifice the need for the secret ingredient. Not to mention that with Flash Fire Steel-types being one of the most in-demand for this metagame, it would be quite difficult for Victini and Volcanion to exert that much pressure to those given Pokemon. Volcarona also happens to be one of the most threatening Pokemon to face at this point, so it has to still tread carefully despite the team having some ways in dealing with the most significant threat in the metagame.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 5 / 5
In terms of creativity, this is hands down the most experimental, especially with all the sets flying everywhere that it could give some inspiration to other players.

ESSENCE: 1 / 5
Sadly, though, while the team has everything you could get as a secret ingredient, it looks like a mish-mash of random sets floating together without that much synergy.

FUNCTIONALITY: 1.5 / 10
The formula for a balanced team is there, but it's a shame that there are lots of wasted opportunities in this regard. The functionality for the team is almost non-existent, as some of the sets are trying to perform way too much that it becomes ineffective at its role - most especially Tyranitar, and the type combinations for the team look extremely awkward that there aren't much to cover. Valiant effort, though!

TOTAL SCORE: 7.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to Iron Chef Mossy Sandwich.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While Rain isn't exactly as common as it looked to be, the abusers being Drednaw and Zapdos are actually quite common. However, Tsareena is the saving grace from the team's rather lackluster creativity.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
Definitely one of the strongest in terms of this criterion as Rain makes it a prevalent theme for the secret ingredient with a hint of Choice Scarf Tsareena.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6 / 10
While Rain happens to be potent in itself, the team somehow struggles in dealing with set-up users, especially Substitute Volcarona. The team probably needs a Pokemon with a more active role in dealing with set-up attackers (especially the likes of Unaware Clefable), but that means the lack of momentum would kill the team if it wanted some offensive pressure (or it could also need someone like Scarf Dragapult in dealing with Volcarona). A strong showing, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to Judge a loser. This is one of the placeholder teams; as such, any result will not count towards the Iron Chefs' overall win/loss record.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team features all of the Pokemon being highly viable in the rankings; however, what makes up for the lack of creative choices are some of the sets that have yet to be explored, such as Final Gambit Victini and Choice Specs Alakazam.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
One of the most well-thought-out cores for this episode as it has great synergy. Not only that, most of the required Pokemon being Choice users add a layer of depth and surpasses all expectations in using the secret ingredient.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6.5 / 10
This is one of the solid teams worth using; however, one of the key flaws this team has is the lack of a Dark- or Normal-type which could've helped withstand Ghost attacks quite handily, though Rillaboom alone is not enough to take those attacks if it were Grass/Dark, for example. Otherwise, this is a team with a solid foundation and could serve as one of the blueprints for anyone building a team like this.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

So you may have noticed that there are some placeholder teams coming from the Chairman and/or from the fellow Panel of Judges. This may actually recur depending on the interest of participants who wish to partake in every episode of this project.

TIME IS UP!
Voting is now officially underway, and I hereby introduce to you the dishes of the participants!

Porygon-Z, Single Strike Urshifu, and Clefable are the components for this episode's secret ingredient. Porygon-Z, through its rather forgotten offensive Ice/Electric STAB combination, serves as a midgame revenge killer/Trick disruptor and late-game wallbreaker; Single Strike Urshifu can dish out maximum damage through its high attack alongside Choice Band and critical-hit-bound Wicked Blow; Clefable serves as a Sticky Barb disruptor, allowing it to effectively reduce effectiveness of Steel-types switching in on Porygon-Z's and Urshifu's attacks. Heatran serves as a Stealth Rock setter, Calm Mind disabler, and an answer against Fire Pokemon thanks to Flash Fire; Salamence serves as a Defogger and physical wall; finally, Blissey serves as a pivot to most attackers and can generate momentum for Urshifu and Porygon-Z through Teleport.

This team features Ground/Fairy Lycanroc-Dusk being the focal point of this unusual rain team. It features Pelipper to set up rain, which gives way for Tentacruel and Heliolisk to recover their health over time through Rain Dish and Dry Skin respectively, and Seismitoad to boost rather middling Speed through Swift Swim. Completing this team is Ice/Ground Gastrodon, who serves as a Specially defensive tank with Storm Drain absorbing Water attacks with ease.

The secret ingredient being featured in this team has the wall breaking duo of Choice Band Mamoswine and Choice Scarf Xurkitree, and a set-up duo of Rillaboom and Volcarona. Physically Defensive Water/Poison Miltank and Specially Defensive Bug/Steel Corviknight bind the offensive potentials of the secret ingredient together by granting them utility options by virtue of setting up Stealth Rock and spreading status, and Defogging and generating momentum, respectively.

Swords Dance Weavile is the focal point of this team's secret ingredient. It is then coupled with Assault Vest Jirachi to compress answers for Rillaboom, (non-Poison Jab) Urshifu, and Dragapult in one slot while generating momentum with U-turn. Dragapult serves as Weavile's greatest sidekick thanks to Infestation trapping and eliminating key Pokemon for Weavile to eventually put up a sweep. Heatran serves as an offensive answer against Blissey and Volcarona with Taunt; Rotom-Wash serves as the team's defogger and answer against Water- and Steel-type threats; Scizor serves as a bulky Steel and Swords Dance attacker.

This team features Lycanroc-Dusk, Rillaboom, and Mamoswine, three of the most threatening physical attackers, as the secret ingredient for this episode. Binding the secret ingredient together is Magnezone that is designed to trap and eliminate opposing Steel-types that will hamper their progress and provide momentum through Volt Switch. Moltres provides another answer to Grass-types, hazard control, and momentum through U-turn, and Slowking serves as a shock absorber to most Special attackers while also providing momentum through Teleport.

. . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community (including [I forgot to mention: fellow participants and] Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Functionality. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:
CREATIVITY: Team 2, Team 1
ESSENCE: Team 1, Team 3
FUNCTIONALITY: Team 5, Team 4

If you elect to put in the reasoning behind those votes (which the Chairman encourages but people may not opt to), please refer to this:
CREATIVITY:
1. Team 2 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 1 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 1 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

FUNCTIONALITY:
1. Team 5 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its functionality quite well!
2. Team 4 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
. . . . . . . . . .

The Other Metagames Community has until
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 7:30 AM EST
to cast a vote on this thread who has
the most original,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting
dishes ever put up this round!

TIME IS UP!
While the Panel of Judges are finalizing the scores (which will be revealed real soon), the Chairman has now revealed the secret ingredient for the third episode of Iron Chef! Now lift the domes!

NEW AND IMPROVED!

As we are bound to celebrate New Year, we have our wishes and resolutions moving forward in an attempt to become our new and improved versions of ourselves. Speaking of of new and improved, have you ever thought of (mostly food) products that have a "new and improved" formula to market the public?

This is where this episode's secret ingredient comes in! Aspiring participants must build a team that features at least three Pokemon, initially having a single type, and participants are required for those Pokemon to change its original type and are also required to add another type.

COUNTED:
-->

DOES NOT COUNT:
-->

(because Haxorus's original typing remained.)

Aspiring participants have until
SATURDAY, JANUARY 1, 7:30 AM EST
to complete your dishes to be sent to Chairman Euphonos through the Conversation section of the Forums.

Please read how to submit your team here! | Feel free to talk Iron Chef-related stuff in this Discord server!
Also, please take note that
Volcarona is banned from this episode onward!

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the delay, but now is the time for Episode 2's big reveal!

This team belongs to Iron Chef PandaDoux.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team features Pokemon that are relatively viable (apart for the long-forgotten Porygon-Z given the state of the Camomons metagame). However, despite the Sticky Barb Clefable set being somewhat explored and was featured in key tournaments, its rarity to fit in teams actually gives some merit in the creativity side.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
How the team is structured with the secret ingredient is amazing: the synergy between Pokemon given the required types and combinations, the wildcards binding the potentials of the secret ingredient together (although there's a massive Fire weakness that only Heatran takes means that it gets quite overwhelmed by such Pokemon, and as such, this holds back from granting the perfect score in this criterion).

FUNCTIONALITY: 7.5 / 10
Apart from the massive Fire weakness the team has, this team actually struggles a lot from Heatran, specifically ones with Taunt (Steel/Ground). It absorbs Porygon-Z's attacks fairly well, Urshifu and (ironically Heatran) can't exactly switch in on a suspecting Earth Power to a point that the team could've used a Fighting move in order to mitigate such problems. Other than that, the team looks really solid that, with a few tweaks, can be a team worth watching out for.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to sandragon13.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
Another great showing in terms of creativity by experimenting with a rather unusual approach of Rain. What holds back to granting a perfect score in this criterion is actually Lycanroc-Dusk, but that Pokemon using a different type combination than anyone else still grants some merit.

ESSENCE: 1 / 5
It looked like the Judges were actually confused whether to use Lycanroc-Dusk as the focal point or the idea of putting Rain; however, while it is pointed out that Lycanroc-Dusk is the focal point of the team, coupling Rain isn't giving Lycanroc-Dusk any favors, not to mention this unique approach to Rain isn't exactly what Lycanroc-Dusk wanted.

FUNCTIONALITY: 2 / 10
Lycanroc-Dusk being the focal point for this team definitely looks promising, not gonna lie. However, this Pokemon definitely needed a much more reliable supporting cast, and Rain isn't giving Lycanroc-Dusk any favors. While the team's trying too hard to stray away from metagame trends, at the end of the day, the team should still remain effective in dealing with significant metagame threats. On the flipside, the Lycanroc-Dusk idea is really promising and definitely looking forward to seeing a more effective idea alongside that Pokemon.

TOTAL SCORE: 7.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. This is one of the placeholder teams; as such, any result will not count towards the Iron Chefs' overall win/loss record.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Mamoswine and Xurkitree are definitely two of the most underrated offensive gems worth looking after in this metagame, not to mention the presence of Miltank taking the cake for this team's creativity thanks to it being never used anywhere.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The essence for this team is truly a marvel to look at; not just that the synergy between the secret ingredient is prevalently amazing, but also there is a clear-cut game plan on how to make every component of the secret ingredient shine, with Volcarona being icing on the cake despite not being part of the secret ingredient. Probably what holds this back to making a perfect score in this criterion is the lack of momentum through Miltank, though it's mostly out of necessity to slap a Stealth Rock user in there.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6.5 / 10
This is one of the contenders for a great team; however, it's a shame Volcarona got the ban hammer. Anyway, if it were to judge based on that past metagame, the team would've definitely appreciated another pivot that can gain more momentum, since Miltank happened to be a free switch-in to most Pokemon despite its advantages. Not to mention this team needs some form of a status absorber to deal with the likes of offensive Pokemon with a random Status move (like Will-O-Wisp Dragapult). Otherwise, this team has a much better showing that, despite the presence of Volcarona meaning it's now an outdated team, would've been made so much waves of success.

TOTAL SCORE: 14 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man

This team belongs to Siamato.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
While there are some Pokemon that are actually viable and has been somewhat explored in this metagame, there still are some neat sets with the likes of Infestation Dragapult and Grass/Fairy Jirachi. Speaking of under-explored, Weavile and Rotom-Wash definitely stand out as some of the most underrated picks for this team. Speaking of Weavile and Rotom-Wash, it's really interesting that, alongside Dragapult, those Pokemon use their actual base type combinations which is quite a rarity for the Camomons metagame wherein most teams change their types to whatever they please.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
While only two Pokemon comprised the secret ingredient for this team, the roles they perform are actually clear-cut. Not to mention, the teammates look to do a decent job of supporting these two Pokemon.

FUNCTIONALITY: 6 / 10
The team actually featured some interesting offensive threats like Weavile and Infestation Dragapult; however, it looks like everything needs to go their way momentum-wise for this team to come out on top. While Assault Vest Grass/Fairy Jirachi looked really interesting at first glance, Jirachi isn't exactly an ideal candidate when it lacks some form of longevity, like in the form of a teammate that can pass Wishes and provide momentum, especially when it's bound to take so much damage over time and doesn't have Regenerator to boot. Otherwise, the team has some unique blend of creativity and functionality that makes the team stand out among the rest.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man
LOSS vs. Mossy Sandwich

This team belongs to Beka.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While the team doesn't look fancy at first glance, the presence of Magnezone, Mamoswine, and Moltres being not exactly as common as the others give this team a rather solid showing in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
The choice of the secret ingredient is rather interesting as it takes advantage of their high Attack stats coupled with other complementing features (Lycanroc-Dusk's Tough Claws; Rillaboom's Grassy Glide priority; Ice Shard Mamoswine); however, Mamoswine looked like an afterthought where it could really use a strong special attacker alongside Magnezone to complement such teammates.

FUNCTIONALITY: 5.5 / 10
While having U-turn Rillaboom + Magnezone is actually a great strategy to ward off Steel/Flying Pokemon that give Lycanroc-Dusk a hard time, the rest of the team seems to fall short in checking strong opposing attackers despite giving the team potential momentum with pivot moves like U-turn on Moltres and Teleport on Slowking, respectively. Magnezone's set should've changed to Fighting/Electric (with Body Press) such that trapping Steel Pokemon would be more efficient, and then a more potent Stealth Rock attacker could've been used alongside Mamoswine to complement Lycanroc-Dusk's and Rillaboom's potential as well. Otherwise, this is still a solid showing that, with a few tweaks, could've been really successful.

TOTAL SCORE: 11.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:

LOSS vs. The Number Man
