Disclaimer: I really want to make this team good, however I am not the best at teambuilding, so this team might look all over the place, likely because it is! Please help with that! :)
the TEAM!
Mimikyu @ Red Card
Ability: Disguise
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw
I wanted to make a team involving one of my new favorite pokemon! And lucky for me it seems to be very good. Works as a very good sweeper once it sets up. In a perfect world (where it is faster than the opponent) I can substitute the turn they are setting up, and then get 2 (or at least 1) swords dance in before they break the Sub and the Disguise. then I am able to hit hard with Play Rough or Shadow Claw, depending on the opponent. One of the MVPs of the team, it only usually falls when I make a severe mistake (which I do usually since I'm relatively new). The red card catches the opponent by surprise if they try to break my disguise and then get swapped out. Mimikyu really falters when it isn't faster however, which happens on occasion
Weavile @ Life Orb
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Poison Jab
I wanted to try and shiny chain in Sun and Moon, and I like the shiny of Weavile and wanted to incorporate it into my competitive team. Although it is also a somewhat frail fast physical sweeper like Mimikyu, it's typing seems to help make it stand out. Poison Jab is mainly for Fairy coverage (since before I added Venusaur, Fairy types totally destroyed me). And Weavile is also a lot faster than Mimikyu. Ice Shard is obviously priority, and Knock Off is honestly the MVP move. Overall, Weavile dies quite often and sometimes can only secure one kill (sometimes not even), so if there is a stronger replacement, I'm willing to listen!
Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- U-turn
- Encore
- Moonblast
- Stun Spore
Also one of my favorite pokemon! I want to try anything to keep Whimsicott on my team, and I think the only reason she seems to be not doing well so far has been due to me misplaying her, or maybe the typing clashes with the rest of my team (since Venusaur is already grass, and Mimikyu is already fairy). I want to do anything to make this better, but the moveset is pretty basic, Stun Spore and Encore for Prankster, and Moonblast for damage and U-turn for getting advantage from a switch. More often than not she winds up dead FAST, and I would like to fix this!
Goodra @ Assault Vest
Ability: Sap Sipper
Nature: Modest (+SpA, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Thunderbolt
- Earthquake
Goodra has worked very well on my team so far. Except for always dying to fairy-types, it is able to sweep very easily with it's boosting to Special Attack, while still tanking huge amounts of hits with its Special Defense. I originally was thinking about making this purely defensive, but I realized I didn't have a special attacker, and Goodra fit the bill. Earthquake might be redundant because of Gliscor, so maybe that needs some reworking, but usually Gliscor is too frail to land an Earthquake unless it is completely set up.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
Nature: Impish (+Def, -SpA)
EVs: 252 HP / 184 Def / 72 Spe
- Substitute
- Protect
- Toxic
- Earthquake
Gliscor is by far the most successful pokemon on this team. As you can tell from Mimikyu's substitute I like gimmicky pokemon. Being able to Toxic and alternate between Substitute and Protect whittles down the opponent who isn't quick enough. The major downside here is Gliscor needs to find balance between bulk and Speed. Bulk for those times where I need to land a Toxic and still live, and Speed so I can substitute before they attack, or toxic before them. Right now, he hardly uses Earthquake unless the opponent makes many mistakes. More often than not I find him landing a toxic or two and stalling for a bit, baiting out mistakes from the opponent. I love him so much, and my only question here is whether or not I should ditch the defense boost and go all for Speed or not.
Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll / Thick Fat
Nature: Calm (+SpD, -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power (Fire)
- Synthesis
Big daddy here is a hugely impressive tank, being able to tank multiple super effective hits on it. I originally incorporated him into my team when I noticed a problem I had with fairy types, and Sludge Bomb definitely solved that problem. Giga Drain hasn't been too impressive, mostly because a lot of water types I am facing don't take much damage from it for one reason or another (toxapex or golisopod). Synthesis is situational but has saved my ass once or twice. Finally Hidden Power Fire in theory was such a good idea for me. Getting rid of unassuming enemies who would never guess they weren't safe from Venusaur's fire attack! Goodra does have Fire Blast but I often find I need another form of fire damage. Sadly, Venusaur's damage output with this move is ridiculously sad. It doesn't seem to do much even when it is super effective, so maybe I should look to switch it out for something else.
Conclusion
I'm willing to change anything! In hindsight I don't really have a physical wall (the closest being Gliscor) because both Goodra and Venusaur cover SpD. I also don't really have a special sweeper besides Goodra, who functions as a partial wall as well. Different pokemon I'm looking at possibly incorporating are Alakazam (I really like him, but would prefer his Mega Evo which would put Venusaur in an awkward situation), or Toxapex as a different tank (I've faced a few of these and I really struggle against the typing, I might enjoy it. Also it has poison to cover fairy!) Also Sableye, but I do not know if it is worth it anymore because of the nerf. I used to use Ferrothorn a lot as an opener, who worked wonders. I don't know why he is gone here, but my new opener always seems to be Gliscor. I also LOOVE Mega Diancie, and if I could fit her in I would love it! Kommo-o (if he is any good) or Sylveon (who i love!) and anything else you guys can think of! Also a better team name! :)
FINALLY!
This team will also be used against my good friends in Sun and Moon who are a little bit ahead of me, one who will use Pallosand and the other Magmortar (they both got shinies!).
