Teambuilding: Cores in XY Little Cup

well known, i think we can call it a core

@ Berry Juice

@ Choice Scarf/spooky plate (might as well use cottonee here)
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 240 SAtk / 240 Spd
Timid Nature
- Memento
- Nasty Plot/trick if scarf
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

the most broken "core" in the current metagame. switchins to common threats? defensive synergy? not here buddy!
Order of things going out :
Misdreavus tricks and cripples shit that's useless without eviolite and often comes on it(lol @ spritzee/porygon)
DIG sets up rocks and weakens shit that can tank your espeeds(lol @steels/archen)
using this "core" is simple - setup rocks, remove pawniard/sprit, memento something, done. Pair it with something like scarf pawn as emergency vs some threats and knockoff support for the best results. It also likes spikes/rocks.
imo 2 memento users are VITAL to zig's success, because mis/cotton alone will be in trouble when something like pawn comes into their memento while said pawniard won't ever switch into dig resulting in much more safety with memento'ing(is that even a word)

tl;dr, this is THE CORE for these hardcore offensive teams(stall is for pussies), just build around it to support zig even more
+picked these three mons because they are somewhat the most necessary/best zig supporters.
it may take some time to get used to proper memento timing and all this offensive stuff, but i really encourage people to try it. Its simply amazing now. This "core" literally bodybags the metagame. Corporal Levi , pls come here and confirm how amazing this is
I'm just going to point out that NP memento Misdreavus also works extremely well for maintaining as much offensive pressure as possible.

Foongus @ Eviolite
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 5
EVs: 124 HP / 160 Def / 80 SAtk / 80 SDef
Bold Nature
- Spore
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fighting]

Tirtouga @ Eviolite
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 180 Spd / 212 Atk / 116 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Earthquake

So, this is a little resistance core I stumbled across while teambuilding. Tirtouga completely laughs off the Fire and Flying attacks that Foongus fears so much, while Foongus is unfazed by the Grass and Electric attacks that Tirtouga hate so much. After Foongus sleeps a pokemon with Spore, it gives Tirtouga a really nice opportunity to switch in and set up a Shell Smash. The provided moveset for Foongus gives it reliable STABs, and Hidden Power Fighting allows it to obliterate Pawniard. Sludge Bomb also destroys Cottonee, which will wall Tirtouga all day. The Tirtouga set gives it decent STAB while giving it EQ to hurt mons like Chinchou. Additionally, Foongus doesn't really mind the Ground type attacks that Tirtouga is weak to. All in all, I feel that this is a very solid resistance core that could be really interesting to build a team around.

This is a good core, Foongus is able to give Tirt plenty of set up oppurtunities with Spore and even Stun Spore as well if you want to use it. Tirt just lures in things like Timburr, Mienfoo, etc that Foongus can make completely useless with Spore, taking at one of Tirts main obstacles and giving it more set up oppurtinities to sweep with a sleeping pokemon on your opponents team. Larvesta could be added to make a nice fire/water/grass core this can use Tirtougas defensive set with Stealthrock / knock off / aqua jet / stone edge because along with Larvesta and Foongus it handles a lot of offensive threats in the tier (fighting types are dealt with by foongus + larvesta, fairy types are walled by larvesta, Tirt walls the powerful flying types Foongus takes on Chinchou) and they all have very useful roles on teams spreading status (burn, sleep), and tirtougas stealth rocks and knock off. Of course Tirtouga's offensive set could also be used here with Larvesta helping out in dealing with fighting types, being a pivot with U-turn and threatening any bulky grass type that trys to threaten Tirtouga with Flare Blitz.

Rufflet @ Eviolite
Ability: Sheer Force
Level: 5
EVs: 252 Atk / 36 Def / 24 SpD / 196 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pluck
- Superpower
- Return
- Shadow Claw

Elekid @ Life Orb
Ability: Static
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 76 SpA / 236 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Cross Chop
- Ice Punch
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt

Abra @ Focus Sash
Ability: Magic Guard
Level: 5
EVs: 236 SpA / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
- Dazzling Gleam
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Filler

This core is build to help with each other's weaknesses, while finding ways to deal with their own. All three have a good move pool with helpful abilities. This is where Rufflet, Elekid and Abra can work great together. Elekid has access to Psychic which gives Abra a free spot for another move. This allows Abra to have a move that your team needs. The main weaknesses to this core is ground, rock, bug, ghost, electric, ice and dark types. With all those weaknesses, they're capable to deal with every single one. Elekid can also take out dark, rock and ice types with fighting moves, like Cross Chop, Brick Break and Hammer Arm. Rufflet can help protect from potential ground moves and do good amount of damage with superpower. Superpower can take care of rock, ice and dark types. It also can help deal with ghost types, because of its normal typing and shadow claw. Abra can help take out rock, ground and dark types.

Fletchling + Carvanha as an Offensive Core.

Carvanha @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
Level: 5
EVs: 196 Atk / 76 SpD / 236 Spe
Adamant Nature
IVs: 9 HP
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Aqua Jet
- Protect

Fletchling
Ability: Gale Wings
Level: 5
EVs: 200 Atk / 12 Def / 116 SpA / 180 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Acrobatics
- U-turn
- Swords Dance

What this core does is late game it attempts to sweep with either Vanhas power or Fletchlings Priority Acrobatics. Fletchling can remove most of Vanhas checks with ease and Vanha can rip through a team with 19 Attack and Life Orb. Some great teammates are anything with Knock Off Support as Eviolite is a pain so, pokemon such as Defensive Tirtouga and Pawniard can help weaken some pokemon that would have been just short of OHKO eg Timburr, Foo and Foongus. Other helpful teammates are Foo and Foongus because they can switch into attacks for Vanha and Fletchling. Some pokemon that hurt this core are Timburr and Fighting types that can just live an acrobatics. A lot any very bulky pokemon such as, Porygon and Spritzee. Vanha is so underused it's not even funny and a lot of people don't expect it so they don't naturally pack many counters or checks.

Aerow (Slugma) @ Berry Juice
Ability: Flame Body
Level: 5
EVs: 196 HP / 196 Def / 116 SpD
Bold Nature
- Memento
- Reflect
- Lava Plume / Fire Blast
- Light Screen

Fizz (Snover) @ Life Orb
Ability: Snow Warning
Level: 5
EVs: 196 HP / 180 Atk / 36 Def / 36 SpD / 36 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Bullet Seed
- Wood Hammer / Ice Punch
- Swords Dance

The idea here is that Slugma predicts the switch-in to it, sets up either Reflect or Light Screen, and uses Memento, giving Snover an easy set-up opportunity. Slugma's STAB Fire-type move will deter Pawniard from switching in to absorb Memento, although physical Piplup will be a larger issue. While it is setting up, Slugma tends to draw in Water- and Ground-types, most of which Snover can set up on (be careful of Fire Punch Cubone though), as well as Archen, which Snover can force out with the threat of Ice Shard. Once boosted by a Swords Dance, Snover becomes quite threatening and can attempt a sweep.
Snover's Ice Shard is its priority move, allowing it to pick off weakened threats. Bullet Seed deals heavy damage once boosted, and is its main STAB move against most other Pokemon. Wood Hammer is an option when raw power is needed, but Ice Punch can also be used to deal with Foongus, who is able to avoid the OHKO from +2 Ice Shard.
The given Slugma EVs allow it to survive OHKOs from most attacks while behind either Reflect or Light Screen, giving it the opportunity to Memento, while the Snover EVs allow it to outpace Porygon and Timburr, with the rest dumped into HP after Attack has been maximized so Life Orb and Wood Hammer deal a lower percentage of Snover's health.

0 SpA Slugma Lava Plume vs. 0 HP / 36 SpD Pawniard: 20-26 (95.2 - 123.8%) -- 75% chance to OHKO

232+ SpA Chinchou Hydro Pump vs. 196 HP / 116 SpD Slugma through Light Screen: 16-19 (69.5 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
228 Atk Life Orb Huge Power Bunnelby Earthquake vs. 196 HP / 196+ Def Slugma through Reflect: 17-21 (73.9 - 91.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 Atk Mienfoo Drain Punch vs. 196 HP / 36 Def Snover through Reflect: 10-13 (40 - 52%) -- 9% chance to 2HKO
12 SpA Spritzee Moonblast vs. 196 HP / 36 SpD Snover through Light Screen: 5-6 (20 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
196+ Atk Timburr Mach Punch vs. 196 HP / 36 Def Snover through Reflect: 7-9 (28 - 36%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO
196+ Atk Fletchling Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 196 HP / 36 Def Snover through Reflect: 16-19 (64 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
236+ Atk Scraggy Drain Punch vs. 196 HP / 36 Def Snover through Reflect: 13-16 (52 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
236 Atk Pawniard Iron Head vs. 196 HP / 36 Def Snover through Reflect: 13-16 (52 - 64%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Pawniard: 12-15 (57.1 - 71.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after hail damage
(4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5)
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Pawniard: 6-8 (28.5 - 38%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after hail damage
(6, 6, 6, 6, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8)
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Scraggy: 9-13 (42.8 - 61.9%) -- 99.6% chance to 2HKO
(9, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 13)
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Bullet Seed (3 hits) vs. 156 HP / 196 Def Eviolite Mienfoo: 24-27 (104.3 - 117.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Wood Hammer vs. 236 HP / 196 Def Eviolite Porygon: 21-27 (80.7 - 103.8%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Wood Hammer vs. 76 HP / 196 Def Munchlax: 40-48 (129 - 154.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 180+ Atk Life Orb Snover Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Gastly: 19-23 (100 - 121%) -- guaranteed OHKO

As you can see, Choice Scarf Pawniard is not enough to deal with a healthy boosted Snover because Iron Head will not come close to OHKOing, while a combination of a +2 3 hit Bullet Seed and Ice Shard will KO Pawniard after Hail Damage.

Before attempting a sweep, Fire-types and Magnemite should be taken out or weakened to within Ice Shard range; this is easily done with Diglett. In addition, it is best if hazards are cleared, because both Slugma and Snover are weak to Stealth Rock and affected by Spikes and Toxic Spikes.

Chespin (M) @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
Level: 5
EVs: 68 HP / 28 Atk / 156 Def / 236 SpD

Frillish (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Water Absorb
Level: 5
EVs: 236 HP / 116 Def / 76 SpA / 76 SpD
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Shadow Ball
- Recover
- Will-O-Wisp

Here is a nice defensive core that works really well and each Pokémon supplements the other one. Chespin got hyped recently as a decent Pokémon that deals with ghosts, Bellsprout and Foongus and with its ability Bulletproof it's immune to most attacks that hurt Frillish that are Shadow Ball, Seed Bomb, Bullet Seed and Energy Ball. It also makes Chespin immune to the super effective Sludge Bomb and Weather Ball under the sun,all this makes it a great counter to other Ghosts that give Frillish a hard time like Gastly and Pumpkaboo. Their typing also makes this core even stronger, Frillish resists Fire, Bug, Poison and Ice attacks that are super effective against Chespin and Chespin resists Grass and Electric attacks that are super effective against Frillish!

10/10 nicknames. Also, I've been using LO Snover a lot and I've found that hitting 14 speed is almost essential, as it lets you outspeed the standard Fletch's Acrobatics and, after a SD, KO it with Ice Shard. Slugma is a nice switch-in to Fletchling, but if they U-Turn and go into Diglett, you're going to have a bad time. However, the bulk can be nice for living hits from mons that can take a hit from Snover, so the EV spread is really up to personal preference.

can you please show replays of this core working? It honestly looks like an attempt to make a subpar mon look good. Also how do you deal with a mon coming in to switch into snover afterwards. Even at +2 it ain't OHKOing shit like honedge (who will take 3 shots and use stab iron head), or OHKO mons neutral to ice shard, and special attacks. Also change wood hammer to blizzard if you like bullet seed, the whole point of LO snover is to hit hard midgame and clean lategame, and without +2, blizzard will be missed.

Bunnelby @ Life Orb
Ability: Huge Power
Level: 5
Shiny: Yes
Happiness: 0
EVs: 228 Atk / 52 Def / 220 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Frustration
- Quick Attack
- Earthquake
- U-turn

Ok so this core is a bit weird in that its not a defensive core or a lure + sweeper core but I think people understand what this core does. Surksit is used to set sticky webs up and Bunnelby can abuse the speed drop to its fullest ability. It reaches 28 attack after Huge Power, and 15 speed lets it outspeed everything after sticky webs and smash them with its life orb boosted Stab. Frustration is more bad ass than Return but yeah, its the same thing haha. Quick Attack is important to revenge kill things when Sticky Webs is not up. Bunnelby lost its best counter (misdreavus) so it really does work now. In Surskits analyses I believe the last slot is Protect / Baton Pass but I personally don't like those options. Mienfoo's aren't running Fake Out as much as they used to, and even if they do, Surskit could still live any hit aside from something like Stone Edge and set up webs anyway. Aipom runs fake out but with a multi hit move, being protected from fake out doesn't solve much. Baton Pass is kinda stupid too imo. Surskit isn't bulky enough to be used as a pivot and it doesn't cause much switches with its weak 14 speciall attack so Baton Pass isn't doing much for it. Toxic lets you do something to bulky switch ins like Porygon, Hidden Power Fighting lets you beat Pawnaird if you got your sash, Pawnaird being a big threat to Sticky Web teams because of Defiant while Aqua Jet just gives you priority so you can pick off super weakened Pokemon like sturdy mons? and Sash Abra.

Sort of necrobumping this thread but it's still on the first page so it's all good:

Timburr @ Eviolite
Ability: Guts
Level: 5
EVs: 76 HP / 196 Atk / 76 Def / 156 SpD
Impish Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Knock Off

Tirtouga @ Berry Juice
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 5
EVs: 212 Atk / 116 SpD / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Shell Smash
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Aqua Jet

Gastly @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 196 SpA / 116 SpD / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sludge Bomb
- Shadow Ball
- Dazzling Gleam
- Destiny Bond

This core is a very straightforward attacking core, with each mon setting up another. Timburr is a beast, setting up on a ridiculous number of things. The set is standard, bulk + Bulk Up + attacks. Tirtouga stops Fletch + other mons that threaten Timburr and proceeds to set up, after which he is very hard to stop. Gastly switches into Fairies that do not care about either of the first two and proceeds to fire off brutal attacks. Yep so it's simple and pretty good
