UU Tentacruel

:ss/tentacruel:

[OVERVIEW]

With incredible Special Defense, an excellent defensive typing that allows it to deal with threats like Primarina, Keldeo, and Celesteela, and the distinction of being one of the only viable Rapid Spin users in the tier, Tentacruel is a solid option for many balance and bulky offense teams. Its base 100 Speed and wide utility movepool that includes options like Knock Off and Haze allows it to outspeed threats like Nidoking and Chandelure and trade with top threats like Keldeo. While its Special Defense is excellent, its Defense and HP are fairly poor, making it difficult for Tentacruel to switch into strong physical attackers like Lycanroc-D and Buzzwole. This is further worsened by Tentacruel's mediocre attacking stats making it difficult to acquire KOs and leaving it overly reliant on status, which worsen its matchup against foes like Buzzwole and setup sweepers like Galarian Moltres and Azelf. These weaknesses also put Tentacruel at a disadvantage against entry hazard setters like Krookodile, Nidoqueen, and Seismitoad, which can handle Scald, and make it difficult to remove entry hazards.

[SET]
name: Defensive Spinner
move 1: Scald
move 2: Sludge Bomb
move 3: Knock Off
move 4: Rapid Spin
item: Black Sludge
ability: Liquid Ooze
nature: Timid
evs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Sludge Bomb prevents Tentacruel from being too passive and hits foes such as Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, and Azumarill. It also has a chance to poison, which is useful for crippling threats like Salamence and Suicune. Rapid Spin can provide a boost to Tentacruel's Speed, letting it outspeed common Pokemon like Lycanroc-D, Noivern, and Azelf. Knock Off cripples checks like Seismitoad and Gastrodon. Haze allows Tentacruel to shut down setup sweepers like Clangorous Soul Kommo-o, Calm Mind Primarina, and Belly Drum Azumarill, which can take advantage of its passivity. Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of recovery, which it completely lacks otherwise. Liquid Ooze punishes draining moves such as Leech Seed, allowing it to deal passive damage to foes that rely on these moves for recovery, like Celesteela and Amoonguss. A Timid nature and 144 Speed EVs allow Tentacruel to outspeed Mamoswine, Chandelure, and maximum Speed Rotom-W. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to more easily deal with Lycanroc-D and Azumarill.

Tentacruel is best used on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to remove entry hazards. Entry hazard setters like Jirachi, Rhyperior, and Krookodile benefit greatly from Tentacruel removing Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off and clearing entry hazards solely from its side of the field, which let them fully capitalize on their entry hazards. Krookodile also sports crucial immunities to Electric and Psychic, which allow it to check foes like Thundurus and Galarian Slowbro for Tentacruel. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu provide switch-ins to some of Tentacruel's biggest checks such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Krookodile. The latter can also set up Grassy Terrain, which provides Tentacruel with another source of recovery and weakens Earthquake. Sylveon provides Wish support for Tentacruel, another form of recovery, and acts as a secondary check to Buzzwole and Keldeo. Pokemon like Salamence, Moltres, and Rotom-H appreciate Tentacruel's Rapid Spin allowing them to forego Defog. Steel-types like Aegislash and Jirachi are greatly valued as partners for Tentacruel, as they can check Psychic- and Dragon-types like Reuniclus and Kommo-o, which Tentacruel struggles with.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Toxic Spikes can be used to give Tentacruel its own method of setting up entry hazards, but it is unreliable due to the prevalence of Heavy-Duty Boots and Amoonguss. Toxic lets Tentacruel cripple switch-ins such as Seismitoad and Salamence but is hard to fit. A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe with a Bold nature is an option to check physical attackers like Lycanroc-D and Buzzwole more effectively, but the decrease in Speed will result in Tentacruel getting outsped by threats like Mamoswine and Rotom-H. Clear Body can be used to better counter Sticky Web teams, but is not very useful otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Electric types such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Rotom-W severely dent Tentacruel with their STAB attacks. The latter two can also easily use Volt Switch on Tentacruel to generate free momentum.

**Ground-types**: Krookodile easily OHKOes Tentacruel with Earthquake, although it doesn't like having to take a Scald in the process. Seismitoad and Gastrodon are immune to Scald and resistant to Sludge Bomb, which means Tentacruel can only force progress by fishing for poison against them. Gastrodon also has reliable recovery, which makes fishing for poison even more ineffective.

**Dragon-types**: Kommo-o can easily switch into Tentacruel and force it out. Salamence and Noivern can also switch into it easily, although Tentacruel does have enough special bulk to stay in against them and remove their Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off.

**Psychic-types**: Hatterene, Reuniclus, and Necrozma easily OHKO Tentacruel with Psyshock or Photon Geyser, although Hatterene doesn't like taking a Sludge Bomb, and both Reuniclus and Necrozma don't like taking a Knock Off. Galarian Slowbro is especially troublesome for Tentacruel, as it cannot be poisoned and can easily set up on Tentacruel with Calm Mind.

**Physical Attackers**: Conkeldurr, Lycanroc-D, and Gyarados can muscle through Tentacruel due to its poor Defense. The former is especially dangerous, as unlike the latter two, it doesn't have to fear getting burned by Scald.

Paragraph 1
  • Scald and Sludge Bomb are Tentacruel's dual STAB attacks. It is important that both of these are run; without Scald, Tentacruel is walled by Steel types like Skarmory and Celesteela and other Poison types like Nidoqueen and Nihilego, and without Sludge Bomb, it is walled by Grass types like Amoonguss and Tangrowth and Water types like Azumarill and Primarina. way too much info, just say they let Tentacruel by less passive by hitting Pokemon like Skarmory and Celesteela for scald and Tapu Bulu and Azumarill with sludge bomb, doing damage to them and possibly statusing them as well.
  • Rapid Spin is the other required move, as it fufills Tentacruel's role of entry hazard removal removes hazards while also providing a boost to Tentacruel's Speed.
  • Knock Off is useful for getting rid of the opponent's items, Toxic Spikes allows Tentacruel to become a hazard setter itself, and Haze turns Tentacruel into an anti-setup mon.
  • Make this point dedicated to Toxic Spikes being an option allowing it to hazard stack, but mention how Pokemon that run Heavy Duty Boots like Zeraora and Slowking do not mind toxic spikes at all. Also mention how Amoongus being a popular option on teams means Toxic Spikes can be absorbed by it in many games.
  • Make individual point about Haze here and how it can shut down set up sweepers like Gyarados, Kommo-o, and Galarian Moltres who will set up on Tentacruel due to its passivity.
  • Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of recovery, which it completely lacks otherwise. passive recovery, allowing it to increase its longevity.

  • A Timid nature is preferred so Tentacruel has more Speed to get off its Rapid Spin. mention the specifics of Tentacruel's EV spread and what it allows it to check, also mention why it should run timid more in depth. Ex: Tentacruel runs 156 defense EVs for....

Paragraph 2
  • Tentacruel is best used on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to remove hazards.
  • Kyurem greatly appreciates Tentacruel's ability to check Celesteela and set up Toxic Spikes for extra chip damage, and helps Tentacruel out itself by dealing with Electric and Ground types. Kyurem doesn't really deal with electric types apart from Rotom-W, as Zera can do lots with Play Rough and both Thundurus forms carry Focus Blast, so change this to say bulky water-types like Slowking and Rotom-W instead as it deals with them via Freeze Dry
  • Other entry hazard setters like Skarmory, Mew, and Krookodile benefit greatly from Tentacruel's presence, as it can knock off Heavy-Duty Boots to allow their hazards to be utilized fully, set up Toxic Spikes to stack hazards, and remove the opponent's hazards without getting rid of their own hazards
  • Krookodile especially appreciates Tentacruel's ability to check bulky Grasses, and also sports crucial immunities in Electric and Psychic, two of Tentacruel's weaknesses.
  • Grass types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu provide switch ins to some of Tentacruel's biggest checks, such as Zeraora and Krookodile. The latter can also set up Grassy Terrain, which provides Tentacruel with another source of recovery. Mention it also weakens damage from Earthquake for Tentacruel.

Other Options
=============

  • Magic Coat can be used to increase Tentacruel's ability to dissuade hazard setup; however, it is outclassed in this niche by Hatterene, which doesn't have to use up a move slot to be able to bounce back hazards , but it struggles to fit it over other more valuable utility options like Haze and Knock Off
  • Toxic can be used to poison switch-ins that commonly carry Heavy-Duty Boots, such as Zeraora, Slowking, and Salamence, but has no real use besides that. but like Magic Coat it can be often hard to fit on Tentacruel.
  • A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe and a Bold nature can be used to avoid being OHKOed by Choice Band Terrakion's Earthquake or physical Victini's Bolt Strike, but the decrease in Speed EVs will result in Tentacruel getting outsped by threats like Mamoswine and Rotom-Heat.

Checks and Counters

Rewrite to say this: Electric types such as Thundurus-Therian, Zeraora, and Rotom-W are all able to severely dent Tentacruel with their electric attacks, and the latter 2 can generate free momentum with Volt Switch

Krookodile: Choice Scarf Krookodile outspeeds Tentacruel even with a Speed boost from Rapid Spin and easily OHKOes it with Earthquake.
Change this to mention Ground-types instead of just Krookodile like Mamoswine, note they do not like taking a Scald but can heavily damage Tentacruel.

**Dragon-types**: Salamence, Kommo-o and Kyurem can all easily come in on Tentacruel and force it to switch out, though the former does have to be wary of Knock Off removing its Heavy-Duty Boots.

add a point on psychic types such as Alakazam, Reuniclus, and Necrozma, mention how they do not like to take a knock off.

add a point about physical attackers like Conkeldurr, Lycanroc-D, and Gyarados being able to muscle through tentacruel due to its weak physical defense stat, possibly bring up how all except Conkeldurr do fear a Scald burn

Implemented, ready for another check :3

:ss/tentacruel:

[OVERVIEW]

  • With an incredible Special Defense stat of 120, an excellent defensive typing in Water/Poison that allows it to deal with threats like Scizor and Celesteela, and a myriad of utility moves such as Scald, Knock Off, and Haze at its disposal, Tentacruel is a solid option for many balance teams. You start off talking about its great special bulk but then you lead straight into the first example being Scizor, which you don't check all that well anyway. Mention what the SpD bulk + typing helps with e.g. Primarina, Chandelure, etc. Rather than mentioning all these utility moves focus on what you primarily want it for, spinning hazards. This should be the first thing mentioned, it's literally the only mon that really wants to run the move in the tier. Also, Tentacruel is a fine fit on BO teams rather than just balance.
  • Its base 100 Speed, which allows it to outspeed threats like Nidoqueen and Kommo-o, and access to Rapid Spin make it especially good at removing hazards. Outspeeding Kommo-o doesn't matter much when all it can do is Scald. I'd rather see a mention of Chandelure. This spin comment is tacked on, just focus on the Speed tier letting it trade or remove these key threats without much investment.
  • While its Special Defense is excellent, its Defense and HP are fairly poor, making it harder to Tentacruel to switch into physical attackers like Mamoswine and Krookodile that it can otherwise counter. You are not a counter to Ground-types. You should never be switching it hard into Krookodile ever. The Mamoswine mention is also not the best example when you could use more realistic ones like Buzzwole. CB Buzz notably 2HKOing with CC. You can tie in a point about its lack of reliable recovery here too.
  • This is further worsened by Tentacruel's mediocre attacking stats, meaning even its super effective hits are 2HKOes at best. For example, its Scald only has a 31.3% chance to OHKO Krookodile, allowing it to easily OHKO it back with Earthquake. Its passivity also means that it is easily taken advantage of by setup sweepers, like Galarian Moltres and Mew. Rework this whole point to be about Tentacruel being overreliant on status from its STAB moves to deal with most threats it invites in/attempts to check because of its low damage output. You should talk about Scizor here because all Tentacruel can do is fish for a burn if not carrying Haze. Even with a burn, Tentacruel will still lose that 1vs1 if Scizor has Roost. You can keep the Galartres and Mew mentions.
  • Weaknesses to Electric, Ground, and Psychic cause Tentacruel to suffer against incredibly common Pokemon in the tier, such as Thundurus-T, Krookodile, and Mew. While this is fine it's pretty basic info. I'd rather you focused on setters that share these typings. Most rockers are Ground-types, which means it's not necessarily easy to get a spin off especially when all of them can take a Scald from Tentacruel. Seismitoad should be brought up because all you can do is Knock and fish for a Poison against it. Mew is another good example of a hazard setter it just can't keep hazards off the field against, but it can cripple Mew with poison without being punished with Synchronize and remove Mew's item.
  • Tentacruel also struggles to fit all of its utility moves on one set, meaning that it is often forced to try and check more Pokemon than it is able to.

Paragraph 1
  • Scald and Sludge Bomb are Tentacruel's dual STAB attacks. Sludge Bomb prevents Tentacruel from being too passive by allowing it to check potential switch ins, hit foes such as Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, Azumarill, and Hatterene. Remove Hatt to cut down the number of examples
  • Rapid Spin is the other required move, as it fulfills Tentacruel's role of entry hazard removal while also providing can provide a boost to Tentacruel's Speed. At +1 Speed, Tentacruel is able to outspeed common mons like non-Choice Scarf Krookodile. There are better examples you could use here tbh. For instance, you're faster than Lycanroc-D, Noivern, Scarf Diggs.
  • Knock Off is useful for getting rid of the opponent's items, and is especially useful for removing Heavy-Duty Boots from its checks, like Thundurus-T, that are reliant on them.
  • Haze can be used here to allow Tentacruel to shut down setup sweepers like Gyarados, Kommo-o, and Moltres-G that otherwise take advantage of its passivity These are fine but I'd rather see examples like CM Prima and SD Scizor over Gyara and Gmolt.
  • Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of recovery, which it completely lacks otherwise.
  • Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to punish Leech Seed and draining moves, allowing it to deal passive damage to opponents like Celesteela and Tangrowth that rely on these kinds of moves for recovery. Tang isn't that great of an example when Sludge Bomb completely bounces off AV and EQ 2HKOs. Use something else.
  • A Timid nature and 144 Speed EVS are used to allow Tentacruel to outspeed max-Speed Rotom-W. Mention some other things like Mamoswine and Chandelure because you trade with them better, then mention outspeeding Washtom lets you cripple it with Knock. I'd also give a small line about the remainder EVs being put into its Defense to better take on foes like Scizor and Azu.

Paragraph 2
  • Tentacruel is best used on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to remove hazards.. remove extra .
  • Entry hazard setters like Jirachi, Mew, and Krookodile benefit greatly from Tentacruel's presence, as it can knock off Heavy-Duty Boots to allow their hazards to be utilized fully, set up Toxic Spikes to stack hazards, and remove the opponent's hazards without getting rid of their own.
  • Krookodile especially appreciates Tentacruel's ability to check bulky Grasses, and also sports crucial immunities in Electric and Psychic, two of Tentacruel's weaknesses. The only bulky Grass tenta really checks is Amoong and even then you lose that trade + Krook doesn't have too many issues with Amoong anyways. I'd prefer if you gave examples than stating it has immunities to these typings.
  • Grass-types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu provide switch ins to some of Tentacruel's biggest checks, such as non-Sludge Wave Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Krookodile. The latter can also set up Grassy Terrain, which provides Tentacruel with another source of recovery and weakens Earthquake for it.
Mention Sylveon as it can provide Wish support, it also provides a secondary check to Buzzwole, Keldeo, etc.

Mention some secondary checks to Scizor because it struggles to deal with it alone. Salamence, Heattom, and Moltres would work well + appreciate not needing to run Defog.

Examples of partners that value the removal that are perhaps weak to rocks? This can be a very brief sentence.

You mention in checks and counters that psychic and dragons give it issues so it makes sense to have something about Steel-types that help with them.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Toxic Spikes can be used to give Tentacruel its own method of setting up hazards, but due to the prevalence of Heavy-Duty Boots and Amoonguss, it is unreliable.
  • Toxic can be used to poison switch-ins that commonly carry Heavy-Duty Boots, such as Moltres, Salamence, but is hard to fit onto its moveset.
  • Magic Coat can be used to increase Tentacruel's ability to dissuade hazard setup, but like Toxic, it struggles to fit it over its other, much better utility moves.
  • A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe and a Bold nature can be used to reduce the chance of an OHKO from Krookodile's Earthquake, but the decrease in Speed EVs will result in Tentacruel getting outsped by threats like Mamoswine and Rotom-H. If you are running this spread it isn't to live Krook EQ. It's to check physical attackers like Scizor and Buzz better
Give Clear Body a small mention that helps against Sticky Web teams but isn't too valuable otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

Electric-types: Electric types such as Thundurus-Therian, Raikou, and Rotom-W are all able to severely dent Tentacruel with their STAB attacks. The latter two can also easily Volt Switch on Tentacruel to generate free momentum.

Ground-types: Krookodile and Mamoswine both easily OHKO Tentacruel with Earthquake, though they don't like having to take a Scald in the process.

Dragon-types: Kommo-o, Salamence, and Noivern can all easily come in on Tentacruel and force it to switch out, though the latter two do have to be wary of Knock Off removing their Heavy-Duty Boots. You should mention tenta has the natural SpD bulk to avoid being 2HKO'd by any move from the latter two so it is safe to stay in and Knock but it won't beat them 1on1.

Psychic-types: Hatterene, Reuniclus, and Necrozma can all easily OHKO Tentacruel with Psyshock/Photon Geyser Don't use / , though they do hate taking a Knock Off. Reuni doesn't really care about losing its item. The former also does not like having to take a Sludge Bomb.

Strong physical attackers: Powerful physical attackers, such as Conkeldurr, Lycanroc-D, and Gyarados, can all muscle through Tentacruel due to its poor defense. The former is especially dangerous, as unlike the latter two, it doesn't have to fear getting burned by Scald.

Make sure you go over this carefully, especially the overview. I think you've missed a lot about what it does/struggles with there. Tag me when done and I'll give it another glance over before giving 2/3

[OVERVIEW]

With an incredible Special Defense stat of 120, an excellent defensive typing in Water/Poison that allows it to deal with threats like Primarina, Chandelure replace this with Keldeo considering you bring up Chandelure like a sentence after this, and Celesteela, and the distinction of being one of the only viable users of Rapid Spin in the tier, Tentacruel is a solid option for many balance and bulky offense teams. Its base 100 Speed, which allows it to outspeed threats like Nidoqueen and Chandelure, lets it trade with a lot of top threats. I would add here that Tentacruel has a good utility movepool with options like Knock Off and Haze available to it. While its Special Defense is excellent, its Defense and HP are fairly poor, making it harder to Tentacruel to switch into strong physical attackers like Scizor and Buzzwole. This is further worsened by Tentacruel's mediocre attacking stats, meaning even its super effective hits are 2HKOes at best. Because of this, Tentacruel is overly reliant on fishing for burns and poisons from its main attacking moves, which worsens its matchup against foes like Scizor. This overreliance on statusing means that Tentacruel is also easily taken advantage of by setup sweepers, such as Galarian Moltres and Mew. These common weaknesses worsen Tentacruel's matchup against hazard setters, especially rockers, as many of them, like Krookodile, Nidoqueen, and Seismitoad, are Ground-types that can easily take a Scald or, in the case of the latter, be straight-up immune to Scald. This makes it hard for Tentacruel to keep up hazards against hazard setters.

Paragraph 1

Add a line on Scald here and bring up its ability to discourage physical attackers from switching in due to the burn chance. Be sure to use examples! Sludge Bomb prevents Tentacruel from being too passive by allowing it to hit foes such as Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, and Azumarill the poison chance against switch-ins like Suicune and Salamence totally needs to be mentioned here. Rapid Spin can provide a boost to Tentacruel's Speed you need to actually bring up its ability to remove entry hazards and THEN add the additional Speed boost it can provide, since right now this reads like you'd mainly use the move for +1 Speed which isn't the case. At +1 Speed, Tentacruel is able to outspeed common mons like Lycanroc-D, Noivern, and Choice Scarf Diggersby use something like Mew as an example here instead. Knock Off is useful for getting rid of the opponent's items, and is especially useful for removing Heavy-Duty Boots from its checks, like Thundurus-T, that are reliant on them Thundy won't usually switch in all too reliably in the first place, so just use Seismitoad and Gastrodon as examples and cite them as switch-ins it can burden. Haze can be used here to allow Tentacruel to shut down setup sweepers like Clangorous Soul Kommo-o, Calm Mind Primarina and Swords Dance Scizor that otherwise take advantage of its passivity. Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of recovery, which it completely lacks otherwise. Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to punish Leech Seed and draining moves, allowing it to deal passive damage to opponents like Celesteela and Tapu Bulu use Amoonguss as your example here instead that rely on these kinds of moves for recovery. A Timid nature and 144 Speed EVS are used to allow Tentacruel to outspeed Mamoswine, Chandelure, and max-Speed Rotom-W. It is especially important that Tentacruel outspeed the latter, as it can use Knock Off to cripple it. This doesn't feel like particularly important information and can be cut. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense so that Tentacruel can more easily deal with Scizor and Azumarill.

Paragraph 2

Tentacruel is best used on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to remove hazards. Entry hazard setters like Jirachi, Mew, and Krookodile benefit greatly from Tentacruel's presence, as it can knock off Heavy-Duty Boots to allow their hazards to be utilized fully, set up Toxic Spikes to stack hazards, this isn't even mentioned in the moves section and should thus be removed and remove the opponent's hazards without getting rid of their own. Krookodile also sports crucial immunities in Electric and Psychic, which allow it to check foes like Thundurus-T regular Thundurus is probably the better example here and Mew for Tentacruel. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu provide switch ins to some of Tentacruel's biggest checks, such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Krookodile. The latter can also set up Grassy Terrain, which provides Tentacruel with another source of recovery and weakens Earthquake for it. Sylveon provides Wish support for Tentacruel, which gives it another form of recovery. It also acts as a secondary check to Buzzwole and Keldeo. Tentacruel appreciates having teammates that can deal with Scizor for it, such as Salamence, Rotom-H, and Moltres. These Pokemon also appreciate Tentacruel's access to Rapid Spin, as it means they don't have to run Defog and thus have an extra move slot. Steel-types like Scizor and Jirachi are greatly valued as partners for Tentacruel, as they can check Psychic and Dragon-types like Mew and Kommo-o, which Tentacruel struggles with.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Toxic Spikes can be used to give Tentacruel its own method of setting up hazards, but due to the prevalence of Heavy-Duty Boots and Amoonguss, it is unreliable. Toxic can be used to poison switch-ins that commonly carry Heavy-Duty Boots this isn't necessary info, such as Moltres Moltres is definitely not a switch-in, so use Seismitoad as an example instead, Salamence, but is hard to fit onto its moveset. A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe and a Bold nature can be used to check physical attackers like Scizor and Buzzwole more effectively, but the decrease in Speed EVs will result in Tentacruel getting outsped by threats like Mamoswine and Rotom-H. Clear Body can be used as the ability to better counter Sticky Web teams, but is not very useful otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

Electric-types: Electric types such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Rotom-W are all able to severely dent Tentacruel with their STAB attacks. The latter two can also easily Volt Switch on Tentacruel to generate free momentum.

Ground-types: Krookodile and Mamoswine both easily OHKO Tentacruel with Earthquake, though they don't like having to take a Scald in the process Tentacruel is EV'd to outspeed Mamoswine so it shouldn't be an example here. Just use Krookodile in your first sentence. Seismitoad is immune to Scald and resists Sludge Bomb, leaving Tentacruel to fish for poison against it. Add Gastrodon as an example here too for its immunity to Scald and recovery, which can allow it to more easily shrug off chip damage Tentacruel inflicts.

Dragon-types: Kommo-o can easily come in on Tentacruel and force it to switch out say that it should be wary of getting inflicted with status. Salamence and Noivern can also switch into Tentacruel easily, though Tentacruel does have enough special bulk to stay in against them and Knock Off their Heavy-Duty Boots. However, Tentacruel cannot beat these mons 1-on-1. this isn't important info

Psychic-types: Hatterene, Reuniclus, and Necrozma can all easily OHKO Tentacruel with Psyshock or Photon Geyser, though Hatterene does not like having to take a Sludge Bomb, and both Hatterene I think you mean Reuniclus here and Necrozma don't like having to take a Knock Off. Bring up Galarian Slowbro as a particular nuisance since it can't be poisoned and sets up on Tentacruel fairly easily with Calm Mind.

Notes for TailGlowVM
  1. When checking, bold your checks, makes it a lot more easier to read and implement.
  2. Punctuation should not come under the same color as comments imo. I advise you use one color for additions, another for punctuations and another for comments if you don't want to use the same color for additions and punctuation. I use dark blue for additions and punctuations and purple for comments, but it comes down to personal preference. As long as the colors are easy to read and easily distinguishable, it's fine.
  3. There's no point in using hide tags inside of quote tags. Use hide tags only.
  4. You abbreviate punctuation additions, and yet don't explain what they mean. Not every writer knows what (AC) and (AH) mean, even if it is pretty intuitive. Always explain what the abbreviation means OR write what they should add, like: "switch-ins (add hyphen)"
  5. Pokémon cannot use moves as verbs. Tentacruel doesn't Knock Off an item, it removes an item using Knock Off. Same with Explosion, a Pokémon doesn't explode, it uses Explosion.
  6. The more checks you do, the more you'll improve. Don't feel discouraged, it's from making mistakes that we learn. :blobthumbsup:

[OVERVIEW]

With an incredible Special Defense stat of 120, an excellent defensive typing in Water / Poison that allows it to deal with threats like Primarina, Keldeo, and Celesteela, and the distinction of being one of the only viable users of Rapid Spin in the tier, Tentacruel is a solid option for many balance and bulky offense teams. Its base 100 Speed, which allows it to outspeed threats like Nidoqueen and Chandelure, along with a wide utility movepool that includes moves like Knock Off and Haze, lets it trade with a lot of top threats. While its Special Defense is excellent, its Defense and HP are fairly poor, making it harder for Tentacruel to switch into strong physical attackers like Scizor and Buzzwole. This is further worsened by Tentacruel's mediocre attacking stats, meaning even its super effective hits are 2HKOes at best. Because of this, Tentacruel is overly reliant on fishing for burns and poisons from its main attacking moves, which worsens its matchup against foes like Scizor. This overreliance on statusing status means that Tentacruel is also easily taken advantage of by setup sweepers, such as Galarian Moltres and Mew. These common weaknesses worsen Tentacruel's matchup against entry hazard setters, especially rockers Stealth Rock setters, as many of them, like Krookodile, Nidoqueen, and Seismitoad, are Ground-types that can easily take a Scald or, in the case of the latter, be straight-up are immune to Scald. This makes it hard for Tentacruel to keep up remove entry hazards against entry hazard setters.

Paragraph 1

Sludge Bomb prevents Tentacruel from being too passive by allowing it to hit and hits foes such as Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, and Azumarill. It also has a chance of poisoning the foe, which is useful for crippling threats like Salamence and Suicune. Rapid Spin can provide provides a boost to Tentacruel's Speed. At +1 Speed, Tentacruel is able to outspeed common mons Pokemon like Lycanroc-D, Noivern, and Mew. Knock Off is useful for getting rid of the opponent's items, allowing it to burden cripple (burden doesn't seem like the best word choice here) checks like Seismitoad and Gastrodon. Haze can be used here to allow Tentacruel to shut down setup sweepers, like Clangorous Soul Kommo-o, Calm Mind Primarina, and Swords Dance Scizor, that otherwise take advantage of its Tentacruel's passivity.(AP) (FS) note to TailGlow: what even is FS? Fix space? Black Sludge gives Tentacruel a form of recovery, which it completely lacks otherwise. Liquid Ooze allows Tentacruel to punish punishes Leech Seed and draining moves like Leech Seed, allowing it to deal passive damage to opponents like Celesteela and Amoonguss that rely on these kinds of moves for recovery. A Timid nature and 144 Speed EVS EVs are used to allow Tentacruel to outspeed Mamoswine, Chandelure, and max-Speed maximum Speed Rotom-W. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense so that Tentacruel can to more easily deal with Scizor and Azumarill.

Paragraph 2

Tentacruel is best used on balance and bulky offense teams that appreciate its ability to remove hazards. Entry hazard setters like Jirachi, Mew, and Krookodile benefit greatly from Tentacruel's presence, as it can knock off Heavy-Duty Boots to allow their hazards to be utilized fully and remove the opponent's hazards without getting rid of their own remove Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off and clear entry hazards from only its side of the field, fully capitalizing on them. Krookodile also sports crucial immunities in Electric and Psychic, which allow it to check foes like Thundurus and Mew for Tentacruel. Grass-types like Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu provide switch-(AH)ins to some of Tentacruel's biggest checks, such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Krookodile. Steel-types like Scizor and Jirachi are greatly valued as partners for Tentacruel, as they can check Psychic-(AH) and Dragon-types like Mew and Kommo-o, which Tentacruel struggles with.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Toxic Spikes can be used to give Tentacruel its own method of setting up hazards, but due to the prevalence of Heavy-Duty Boots and Amoonguss, it is unreliable. Toxic can be used to lets it poison switch-ins such as Seismitoad and Salamence, but is hard to fit onto its moveset. A more physically defensive EV spread of 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe and a Bold nature can be used is an option to check physical attackers like Scizor and Buzzwole more effectively, but the decrease in Speed EVs will result in Tentacruel getting outsped by threats like Mamoswine and Rotom-H. Clear Body can be used as the ability to better counter Sticky Web teams, but is not very useful otherwise. Note to StarFalcon555: you repeated the structure "X can be used to" four times in a row. This makes the paragraph boring. Vary the structures you use, or at least choose two and switch between them as you write new sentences.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**:(ACO) You need to add asterisks like this to all the points Electric types such as Thundurus-T, Raikou, and Rotom-W are all able to severely dent Tentacruel with their STAB attacks. The latter two can also easily Volt Switch on Tentacruel to generate free momentum.

Ground-types: Krookodile can easily OHKO Tentacruel with Earthquake, though it doesn't like having to take a Scald in the process. Seismitoad is immune to Scald and resists Sludge Bomb, leaving Tentacruel to fish for poison against it. Gastrodon shares a Scald immunity and Sludge Bomb resistance with Seismitoad, but it also has Seismitoad and Gastrodon are immune to Scald and resist Sludge Bomb, leaving Tentacruel to fish for poison against them. Gastrodon also has reliable recovery, meaning that fishing for poison is even more ineffective against it.

Dragon-types: Kommo-o can easily come in on switch into Tentacruel and force it to switch out. Salamence and Noivern can also switch into Tentacruel it easily, though Tentacruel does have enough special bulk to stay in against them and Knock Off their Heavy-Duty Boots. remove their Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off.

Psychic-types: Hatterene, Reuniclus, and Necrozma can all easily OHKO Tentacruel with Psyshock or Photon Geyser, though Hatterene does not like having to take doesn't like taking a Sludge Bomb, and both Reuniclus and Necrozma don't like having to take taking a Knock Off. Slowbro-G Galarian Slowbro is especially troublesome for Tentacruel, as it cannot be poisoned and thus can easily set up on it with Calm Mind.

Strong physical attackers Physical Attackers: Powerful physical attackers, such as Conkeldurr, Lycanroc-D, and Gyarados, can all muscle through Tentacruel due to its poor Defense. The former is especially dangerous, as unlike the latter two, it doesn't have to fear getting burned by Scald.
