In what should be a surprise to no one, Cinderace has been quickbanned from SwSh 1v1.

The minute Libero Cinderace hit the scene following the DLC informative video, it was apparent that it was the best Pokemon in the metagame. It has greater Attack and bulk than its similar counterpart, Greninja, at the cost of barely any Speed, which was a huge problem in a metagame lacking Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. It had just enough coverage to beat the entire metagame pre-DLC, either by blowing Pokemon back with its insane Choice Band set, setting up with Bulk Up, or outspeeding and OHKOing with its Choice Scarf set, with all of these sets being extremely high in viability. It literally had no counters, only checks.

With DLC fast approaching, the decision was made to hold off on quickbanning Cinderace until the release of DLC, to see if the general environment would be able to handle Cinderace more so than pre-DLC. DLC did provide some Pokemon that made Cinderace's life harder - most notably Slowbro and bulky Urshifu-Rapid-Strike - but even these Pokemon had the potential to be beaten by Cinderace, and even post-DLC it still maintained a chokehold on the metagame. With a unanimous council vote, Cinderace is quickbanned. Tagging The Immortal or Kris to implement.

Additionally, concerning Spring SSNL (I suppose thats just Le Creme Brule SiceXV Iron Crusher), Cinderace will be banned from the tournament, while remaining pre-DLC.

I feel like the quickban was a bit rushed.
We got to use Cinderace in the dlc meta for 2 days and poof it's gone, which is funny, because it now actually has counters. Rapid Style Urshifu can beat most Cinde sets but loses to scarf, unless it carries Payapa berry and some bulk, a very interesting set with the potential to be a hardcounter I just didn't get to use. Slowbro also 100% hardcounters Cinderace running any set that can beat any pokemon other then slowbro.
Other potential counters we just didn't get to test enough include Kebia Azumarill and Primarina.
Overall, why it definitely could be possible that Cinderace is too broken, everyone would have been a lot happier with the quickban had it just been delayed a few more days so we could have all been sure it's actually banworthy. A suspect would also not have hurt.
(The ban also has the maybe, maybe necessary but unfortunate side effect or Magearna going brr)

yall got this after just one day of DLC meta? damn you work fast. I guess that day was certainly enough to see the settled meta in its final form after the new toy syndrome wore off and people discovered optimal sets for all the new mons that had never been in this meta before.

ok but for real if we unban cindy but ban libero, it wont be broken and itll also check magearna who should be burned at the stake
Currently, entire abilities are only banned if every single user of the ability is a competitive issue. Moody was banned bc regardless of the user, you could potentially cheese wins with protect sub spam.

Libero does not make every user a problem competitively, as u can see with Raboot and Scorbunny, so only Cinderace is banned.

Following up our Cinderace quickban, Magearna has been quickbanned from SwSh 1v1.

Magearna has many qualities that set it a level above Pokemon within the Gen 8 1v1 metagame. Its terrific natural bulk combined with excellent typing and huge Special Attack give it unending viable strategies to take advantage of. This is all aided by Magearna's utility options like Encore, Trick, Pain Split, Draining Kiss, Stored Power, and Calm Mind + Iron Defense, alongside powerful offensive potential and coverage with Fleur Cannon, Ice Beam, Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, Thunderbolt, and Shadow Ball.

With all of these tools at its disposal, Magearna can effectively be used as the ultimate glue to any team, so long as its teammates can cover Magearna's nearly-inescapable Fire weakness - not too hard to do, when there are only single-digit amounts of viable Fire-types, plus the rare powerhouses capable of disposing of Magearna with just Fire-type coverage. And because only Fire-type Pokemon, most of which aren't top tier on their own, are mandatory to run for Magearna, it creates a competitive environment that is extremely restricted, with regard to teambuilding.

The removal of Z-Moves and the overall decrease in the power level of the metagame also free Magearna up to a wide variety of equally-viable items: Choice Specs, Choice Scarf, Life Orb, Air Balloon, recovery berries, Weakness Policy, all immediately useful items that change the way Magearna needs to be played against, all thanks to Magearna's immediately threatening offensive presence and exceptionally t h i c c bulk (For some fun context, Adamant max Attack Choice Band Dracovish cannot 100% OHKO a fully invested defensive Magearna).

The council voted to quickban this after giving it some time to be discussed in the 1v1 On The Radar thread. It may potentially be resuspected in the future, if the metagame seems tolerable. Tagging The Immortal or Kris for implementation.
