Interestingly enough, the Chefs have quietly won 9 straight games and are looking like a strong sleeper to go deep into the playoffs, on account of them being the least annihilated by injuries across the board. Losing Charles early obviously sucked but they've got good backups and haven't really lost much outside of him, unlike the other playoff teams with multiple injuries at several key positions. We can be pretty sure they'll beat Houston next week, and given Denver's weakness in recent weeks I would not be surprised at all to see KC go into Denver and win, setting them up for a trip to New England or Cincinnati or even possibly a HOME game against Pittsburgh in the championship. All three of these games they could win, however the one game I couldn't see them winning is a Super Bowl against whoever from the NFC ends up there.

Come to think about it, all of the AFC squads are too wounded to be a serious threat to the NFC teams. Shame, because that means we may have to deal with another lopsided Super Bowl. Oh well, we'll see!
 
Surprising Cards lost by that much despite Arians' promise of no letting up and no mercy. Perhaps if the Panthers/Jaguars score was closer they might've pushed harder.

And of course, the Niners managed to screw up and win, dropping from at least #5 pick to #7. I just hope this doesn't save Tomsula's job and he's fired with the rest of his crap staff and Baalke with him. Unlikely, but one can hope.

Patriots losing is funny, but odb barely dropping a measly/pathetic 1400 yards is terrible. Worst season ever as he should have been able to easily have a 1600 yard season. What a shame.

If Coughlin leaves i want Sean Payton as my coach. The Giants will have a great ol next year, as good as that 2011 saints ol so they could have a great season and Eli and ODB break career records.

The Giants are legitimately a one-man team. We saw the 2008 lions-esque performance in minnesota last week, and it's only going to get worse when teams finally decide to double team him instead of throwing on safety help and acting like it'll keep him contained. The Giants have an awful O-line, no running game, no viable receiving options outside of OBJ (maybe if Cruz ever gets back on the field), and no defense. I mean no defense.

Captain Skywalker I have to agree with Phillip Dorsett, the dude could be a monster if he's played well. Lightning quick and very fast straight line, unfortunately you can't take advantage of that speed down the field when your offensive line can't give his qbs more than 2 seconds to throw.

Anybody else feel bad that Brandon Marshall hasn't made the playoffs in 10 seasons in the NFL? He's a great receiver and has been for a long time, but hasn't been in the playoffs. ever.

I mean, the Cards were still playing starters when they went into the half down three scores and the CAR/TB game in doubt. They look great on total body of work but their losses have all been pretty ass. They're still my pick, though, because fuck Cam.

That's the one thing I'm feeling good about. Should be a good sign for Seattle, lol. I think at the end of the day though, the last thing Arizona wanted was injuries right before playoffs, even with the first round bye. Media's all over the score, but they'll probably take the loss in stride and enjoy the bye. Will need to wait till NFC Championship to play them again.
 
Fuck Baalke is still there, only because he's Jed York's gay lover. Watch as they hire another yes man while forcing whoever it is to take Tomsula as an assistant coach. Here's to another 5-11 or worse year unless they somehow learned from their mistakes, which judging by recent history they won't.

The matchup is plausible, but I wouldn't exactly call KC "scary". They don't need to be, though, because they are the most consistent team in the NFL right now. That consistency, as I mentioned in my previous post, could land them in the SB.
 
Interesting that the chiefs ended the careers of Tom Brady and Peyton Manning who are the quarteracks of the 1 and 2 seeds in the AFC
 
This is a week to week league I wouldn't overreact to the Seahawks' stomping of the Cardinals. It's concerning but if they played 10 times I think that one would probably have been the worst outcome for Arizona. Granted this is the NFL so teams don't play 10 times, but that also means when one of the extreme possibilities happens, people don't get to see the others that could have. If a rematch occurs in the playoffs I expect it to be much closer.

Quick thoughts on the playoff matchups

Under the radar matchup is going to be Jordan Reed vs Micah Hyde. Reed is what many have referred to as a prototypical mismatch player but Micah Hyde has been that guy for the Packers to play against those big TEs and he's been mostly very solid. I think the Redskins will win this game.

Vikings won't be able to move the ball against Seattle. Expect this to be one sided again.

Chiefs Texans looks like a really defensive game. Chiefs are hurting in terms of pass rushers so we'll see how that plays out. Should be interesting to watch, I think KC has the edge but Houston is playing hungry right now. If DeAndre Hopkins can win his matchup with Marcus Peters on the day then the Texans have a shot.

Bengals and Steelers is probably the highest profile matchup. Steelers put the smack down last time when Dalton got knocked out but this time they can plan with McCarron - losing a guy mid game is a lot tougher than having all week to prepare. Cincinatti has the horses to slow down Pittsburgh and Big Ben has been throwing picks lately. If DeAngelo Williams can't go, I like the Bengals to win this one but it should be a good game either way.
 
Has anyone else noticed how there are 26 receivers with 1000+ yards but only 7 players with 1000+ rushing yards? This year is as historic for receivers as 2011 was for qbs. The difference in production is incredible and can't remember the last time it's been so lopsided.

There's actually a pretty simple answer to this, and I'll list it here:

Le'Veon Bell
Justin Forsett
Jamaal Charles
Dion Lewis
Arian Foster
Marshawn Lynch
LeSean McCoy
Matt Forte
Chris Johnson
Mark Ingram

I'm probably missing some, but all of these players probably would have been 1,000 yard rushers if it hadn't been for missing significant time due to injury. If you assume they all make it, that gives you 17 vs the 26 WRs, which although still less is far smaller a gap. It is easier to get 1,000 yards receiving than rushing by a little, so I don't think this year is so much historically good for WRs as it is historically bad for RBs. In 2014 there were 23 players who broke 1,000 yard receiving, so it's not that significant a jump.
 
Indy extends Pagano and Grigson through 2019. I thought those two were both dead men walking for the last few weeks, Pagano especially. Seems like a rather quick 180 to turn around and give them both extensions.
