Goddamn, this banner is older than me but it is so pretty o3o
Welcome to the 6th iteration of the RU Open, this time hosted by me (no worries, dont need to know me but I will try my best to not screw this up). After last year finals with Confide Dugtrio... Im confident this year RU Open will have a better closure. But enough about that, lets get to the rules, shall we?

Tournament Rules:
  • General tournament rules and regulations can be found here
  • Grand Slam rules can be found here
  • Standard SM RU.
  • Best of three, single elimination.
  • Battles should take place on Pokemon Showdown
  • SM cartridge win conditions are in place, there are no ties.
  • Tiers are locked at the beginning of each round.
Identity

I expect many battles to be completed under alts and I expect many battles to be completed on other servers to prevent scouting. These kind of factors are pretty bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.

Scouting

Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. It is the silliest thing I have ever heard, any battler worth their marbles has more than one team. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any forceful scouting, whether it be spying on another teams irc channel or following your opponent around on PO. There is a difference between "ipl is known for using stall" and "let me follow ipl around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter.

With that said, I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. However, given the fact that this is the big stage, I am sure a lot of people want to watch, so don't be too mean.

Timer Clause

As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment.

Disconnections

If a player disconnects and either player contends that they could still win, the optimal solution is to recreate the exact situation the disconnection occurred at during the battle. If it is agreed between players that this is not feasible due to unreasonable battle length, highly improbable circumstances, or some other reason, the player who did not disconnect may choose to rematch with either the same teams or (the option to use) new teams. Timing out is still classified as a loss, unless the reason for timing out is a disconnection. If there is any suspicion that a disconnect was carried out deliberately to take advantage of this rule in any way, we reserve the right to exercise a harsh punishment. Do not do it.

I know that was a lot to read, but it is all necessary for me to have posted here so everyone can see it in the case of a dispute. I don't want any confusion or any problems.

Battle Clauses:
  • Evasion Clause
  • OHKO Clause
  • Sleep Clause
  • Species Clause
  • Timed Battle
  • Team Preview
Recommendations so you dont get kicked in the ch... I mean kicked out of the tournament due to inactivity:

1
. Contact your opponent as soon as possible when round 1 happens. Activity is gonna be hella strict due to the amount of people that generally join this tournament.

2. When scheduling, try offering more than just 1 option for a day to play. If you can play only 30 minutes on a specific day of the damn week, then wouldnt recommend signing up.

3. Be as specific as possible at the moment of scheduling. "Sunday morning" or "After dinner" or "Whenever I see you online" wont cut it if you want to make an activity appeal. Specific date, put an array of hours where you are available for those days, and please put your timezone. What is a timezone?

4. Please no ghosting. Im a snitch so I will investigate and comment to the TD team if something shady seems to be happening.

And thats it. Feel free to ask any questions regarding the tournament or if I committed a mistake somewhere. It can happen a lot but as said, I will do my best to keep stuff as fluent as possible. If you dont trust me, you can always ask a TD tbh.

Round 8:

Tricking vs. Ajna
aim
vs. Robert Alfons
Welli0u vs. atomicllamas

Congratulations gentlemen for reaching up this far. Only 2 more rounds to go with this one. Who is gonna be victorious?!

Deadline for this round will be on September 18th at 11:00 PM GMT -5 UCT Time. Finals can be up sooner if the matches are finished before deadline ofc.

*Zygarde-10% (Zydog) will not be legal through the duration of this round, since it is still going through a retest.

Have fun everyone!

Tricking vs. Ajna - ajna i feel is really in form as of the past few months, and while i wouldn't call him the most envelope-pushing builder, his consistency puts him over tricking's wild man stack 3-4 sr weaks builds i caught here and there. bearing that in mind, i see ajna neglecting a .x% usage type mon in building only to come across it as a very real option, and tricking is surely a strong player w/the advantage of exposure, so it's bound to be an interesting set regardless.
aim vs. Robert Alfons - my muse. i think pokeaimmd has a notable edge for in regards to playing, and my sources tell me alfons cheesed his way through at least a couple time throughout his run, which idt will be enough when his opp is so thirsty to guarentee a shot at playoffs. again though, cool series, well worth seeing.
Welli0u vs. atomicllamas - this one i feel has a more direct bias, but welli0u has been on a winning streak about six months long and has a fair amount of prior meta knowledge through rupl. i'm stoked for llamas, but in full digression feel that he is not on a level w/his opponent in terms of playing ability, and for all his rutl grants him he still is something of a middle-of-the-road builder. perhaps he's been grinding on the dl, and now would be the best time to exhibit as much, but i'd lean towards the well muscling through here.

these are a really nice set of games, and if folks could let me / the public know when they're playing it'd be rad to catch them!!!

Tricking vs Ajna hl imo tricking is a solid player teams could hold him back. Ajna can take this as long as he doesn't play wild.
aim vs Robert Alfons lol
Welli0u vs atomicllamas RUTL

atomicllamas

but then what's left of me?
