In the famous rules at the top of every forum, I've always kind of wondered about this section:

"General stupidity is banned. This includes linking to porn sites, shock sites, “lol cats” or anything else in that vein. Similarly, we'd ask you to keep discussions of anime to a minimum. Smogon is interested in the competitive aspect of Pokemon, not whether or not Ash beat Lt. Surge on his first try! The discretion of the moderators is supreme in the enforcement of all rules, this one especially."

Don't we have a ton of subforums specifically not related to the competitive aspects? A forum, for a start, but also orange islands, art, writing, irc, programming, etc. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to reword this small section so it doesn't make it sound like anything exclusively noncompetitve is automatically and completely frowned upon?

Firstly, most the forums you mentioned frown on excessive anime discussion.

OI is the only exception, and the rules probably arent updated for that.

The first half of the bolded section is pretty much directed at the fact that OI is ok with anime from what I can tell of it. The second section just seems a bit outdated imo, because there is a whole lot of smogon that is not 100% just about the competitive aspect. I think that this section could seem a bit intimidating to a user viewing it for the first time and thinking that smogon is all serious all the time. I know we started the mentoring program to try and alleviate this fact, so perhaps the same mentality could be applied here?
