Throh is a very bulky special wall that works especially well on Spikes-stacking teams. Circle Throw lets it phaze switch-ins, which pairs well with entry hazard support. Knock Off cripples checks like Altaria, Alcremie, and Tangela, hits Ghost-types like Rotom and Gourgeist-S, and removes Heavy-Duty Boots, which is appreciated on entry hazard-stacking teams. Rest is Throh's only form of recovery; thanks to Sleep Talk and Guts, Throh acts as a status absorber and lacks passivity while asleep. The given EV spread ets Throh outspeed uninvested base 50 Speed Pokemon such as Piloswine.
Throh appreciates entry hazard support a lot, especially Spikes from setters such as Alolan Sandslash, Qwilfish, and Coalossal. Spinblockers like Cofagrigus and Gourgeist formes and fast Taunt users like Alolan Persian, Golbat, and Qwilfish can keep up these entry hazards. Rapid Spin users such as Eldegoss and Alolan Sandslash also make for great partners. Additionally, most of them help handle physical attackers Throh struggles to beat such as Sawk and Silvally-Poison. Despite being a good special wall, Throh appreciates being paired with Pokemon that can handle Volt Switch like Eldegoss, Stunfisk, and Manectric; they prevent it from getting chipped by Electric-types like Rotom, Manectric, and Raichu and losing momentum.

Other Options
=============
Throh can run a wallbreaker set with Flame Orb and Facade; however, it lacks a spammable powerful STAB move, since it is limited to Superpower and Storm Throw. Additionally, Sawk and Silvally-Fighting are usually preferred for their higher Speed tiers and better wallbreaking capabilities. Throh can also attempt to use a Bulk Up set with either Mold Breaker or Guts, with the former giving it the ability to ignore Pyukumuku's Unaware; however, Gurdurr is better at this role due to having Drain Punch for recovery and Mach Punch for priority. A physically defensive set is more effective at checking the likes of Silvally formes, Sawk, and Kangaskhan, but Throh struggles to absorb status without a specially defensive spread.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Ghost-types**: Pokemon like Cofagrigus, Rotom, and Gourgeist-XL are immune to Throh's STAB moves and can sponge Knock Off. Cofagrigus can set up on Throh, while Rotom and Gourgeist-XL annoy it with status. However, Rotom should be careful switching into Knock Off.
**Flying-types**: Flying-types like Altaria, Rotom-S, and Cramorant resist Throh's STAB moves and can retaliate back with their super effective STAB moves. However, they despise losing their valuable Heavy-Duty Boots to Knock Off.
**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types like Alcremie, Galarian Rapidash, and Shiinotic resist Throh's moves and can threaten it with their super effective STAB moves. Although Clefairy cannot break through Throh, it can cripple Throh with Knock Off or pivot with Teleport into a check.
**Physical Wallbreakers**: Even if Throh's physical bulk is far from lacking, its reliance on Rest lets it often get overwhelmed by physical wallbreakers like Cinccino, Silvally formes, and Sawk.
**Psychic-types**: Psychic-types like Uxie, Swoobat, and Musharna resist Throh's STAB moves, don't take much from Knock Off, and threaten it with their STAB moves or Future Sight. Jynx can also break past Throh, but it cannot safely switch into Throh's attacks.
