Thundurus has a strong offensive presence in the UU metagame thanks to its excellent Speed tier letting it outspeed threats like Keldeo and Zarude and versatile movepool making it difficult to wall. Psychic 2HKOes common Electric-resistant Pokemon like Kommo-o, Amoonguss, and Nidoqueen. U-turn is preferred over Volt Switch to gain momentum against Electric-immune Pokemon like Thundurus-T and Krookodile while also hitting Zarude hard. Knock Off cripples checks like Chansey, Rhyperior, and Assault Vest Tangrowth; however, despite being able to remove their items, Thundurus still struggles to break through them on its own. For this reason, wallbreakers like Mamoswine and Buzzwole are appreciated, as they can overwhelm these Pokemon through sheer power. Keldeo is another great partner that appreciates Thundurus crippling Chansey and Tangrowth, making them easier to break through. In return, Keldeo can remove Ground-types that Thundurus brings it in against. Thundurus has mediocre defenses, so pivots like Jirachi and Zarude are appreciated to bring it in safely against foes like Celesteela and Cobalion. Both are also common Choice Scarf users that can remove Lycanroc-D, a foe that can revenge kill Thundurus with Accelerock.
