marmot, termi, and Bloods are the shipoopies of the leaderboard. And a… special… mention to Moose for giving us the songs that make us all go BLERG.

Next round is The Vocal Suite Part I: Unique. We’re on TBD status again for when we’ll get around to that certain je nais se quois. (Quick, someone convince me that I shouldn’t take the rest of December off.)

Attention Kuti, Laurel, MNIN, and Salt: TBD means you still need to anonymize your Round 4 subs when you send them in!

KnightsofTie-none-ia: Note: if any Vocal Suite subs happen to fall under Rules 3 and/or 4, I will be lenient about it.

You can wait until next walrus to watch me be a hardass about that issue.

After some additional deliberation, I have decided that I'm judging all three parts of the Vocal Suite concurrently and then I'll figure out a reveal schedule after the judging period's done. We're still on TBD status, but once I get things sorted and get a general idea of my availability then, I will probably reserve three days for back to back reveals or six days for reveals every other day. Lemme know in thread which you'd prefer.

If I contact you over PMs or DMs during this time, it means I don't have one or more of your Vocal Suite subs (or something has gone horribly wrong somehow, which leads back to the aforementioned issue). Because I will be judging those truant subs asap, the anonymity clause no longer applies.

Here's the plan, Tiebreakers:

The Vocal Suite is going to be revealed over a three day block, from the 15th to the 17th, each at 2pm CST (8pm UTC).

And to reward you all for putting up with the various delays and my cockamamie ideas, here's a teaser:

Round Four: The Vocal Suite Part I: Unique

Kuti Plz has chosen to exit the competition. There is an open ended invitation for them to return at a later date and we wish them well. Subsequently, ranking in The Vocal Suite will begin from 16th.

An Introduction to the Album by The Hotelier

The lead singer’s timbre keeps making me flinch. Yeah, make him stop screaming, I don’t like that. You’re playing chicken with Rule 6 here.

If Ben Shapiro could rap by cer spence

Not bad, but falls a little flat. Not as funny as watching the real Shapiro get destroyed on Twitter.

I and Love and You by The Avett Brothers

Pretty sure I warned about the hit and miss nature of sentimental piano ballads in one of my last few walruses. Maybe you didn’t see it.

Too Late For A Savior by Aviators

Ah, more Aviators. A bit reminiscent of Reznor and VNV Nation. Could stand a little more variation in the backing. This song is mainly carried by the lyrics for a good five minutes before something slightly new happens, which by then is (please forgive me) too little too late.

Do You Remember Sally Moore? by Girl Scout

This is very relatable except for the part about having a screaming crush in high school.

A Sea to Suffer In by My Dying Bride

You had me at strings. And then you left me hanging there for a bit wondering what would happen next, but the vocals kinda sorta maybe make up for that. This has a cheesy indulgent feel to it that suggests someone in the band likes Sisters of Mercy.

LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME by Boom Boom Satellites

I could share this with relatives who would have no idea it’s an anime OP. Well, except the relatives of mine that I think would like it are already unapologetic weebs.

Dancing with the Moonlight Knight by Genesis

Oi, you don’t get bonus points for having an album title that qualifies. I was more entertained by this than the first minute led me to expect.

Where Did The Angels Go by Papa Roach

Laurel bumped into Rule 4 with his first choice for this round, so I guess you could say this is his last resort.

A very nice breezy mathy song. I feel peaceful and content listening to this.

Baby, You've Got Your Legs by The Family Crest

At first, it reminded me of some of the dark cabaret stuff I tend to bust out around Halloween time. And then it started building into something beyond that.

O Homem Da Gravata Florida by Jorge Ben

Those guitars are pulling their weight here. This is a pretty chill song for something with such an energetic backing.

Tú Me Dejaste De Querer by C. Tangana

That’s some interesting pitch shifting. Tbh, I prefer this over the tendency to just crank it up to the high registers until dogs start howling. Certamente, me gusta.

A Night at the Movies by The Scary Jokes

Okay, this style is a whole-ass vibe here. I’m a bit disappointed in myself because it didn’t click with me until the harmonies kicked in on the first listen. But I’m digging it hard now.

A 14 minute Nightwish song? Oh, you spoil me ROTTEN.

The outro is Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya by Dropkick Murphys.
