Welcome to the third iteration of TLT (Tours' Leaderboard Tournament)! This is a Tournaments Room event that focuses more on individual play, in contrast to our usual team-tour room event known as BLT (Best "Leaderboarders" Tournament.) – and will be hosted by myself and TheWall

What is TLT, and how do I participate?

Essentially, whenever we have a scripted tournament within the room, the top four players get a certain number of points based on the prominence of the tour. There are also four official tournaments every day, the formats of which decided on beforehand in our monthly schedule. Every time someone receives points from a tournament, it is documented by our room-bot, Lady Monita. At the end of each cycle, we look to see who has the most points on the leaderboard, and the top player is recorded in our Hall of Fame.

The first cycle will start on the 1st of August, and finish on the 15th. The second cycle will start on the 16th, and finish on the 30th.
Points earned on the 31st of August will not count towards TLT.

This will be the basis for the qualification for TLT.

The top sixteen on the leaderboard for the 2 cycles in August will be guaranteed a spot in the 32-player tournament. Note that this year, we have shortened the number of qualifying spots, so the qualifying period is also reduced! Players will battle in a best-of-three format for the first 5 rounds. From r6 onwards, players will battle in a best-of-five format, with Smogon's standard tiers being the metagames played. This tournament is also double elimination, so if you're defeated once, you're still in the loser's portion of the bracket.

The schedule for August official tournaments can be found here.

Good sportsmanship in the Tournaments room is required to participate in TLT. Overwhelming toxicity, collusion, or otherwise going out of your way to bypass the anti-scouting measures in the room will not be tolerated and will result in a ban from competing in TLT. If you are a victim of any of these during our room tours, please contact a staff member (with room %, @, or #) with relevant screenshots as evidence.

What are the tiers that will be played, and how will they be fit into a best-of-three/best-of-five format?

The tiers that will be played are:

SM Ubers
SM OU
SM UU
SM RU
SM NU
SM PU
SM LC
SM Doubles OU
SM Monotype

In order to fairly determine the three of these nine tiers played in each individual matchup, players will take turns locking and eliminating tiers among themselves. They'll both lock one tier, followed by eliminating three tiers, thus leaving three tiers to be played. The lower seeded player will lock the first tier, followed by the higher seed player. Then the lower seeded player will eliminate the first tier, followed by the higher seed player, and it will repeat in that order two more times. The higher seed player picks what tier is played first of the three tiers. After that, the loser of game one picks which of the two tiers is played for game two. Naturally, game three will be played in the last remaining tier.

(Example: TWW is seed #1, while Xiri is seed #16. Xiri, the lower seed, decides to lock PU, followed by TWW locking RU. At this point, neither PU nor RU can be eliminated. Xiri, the lower seed, chooses to first eliminate Ubers. TWW follows with OU. Xiri then eliminates LC, and TWW eliminates Doubles OU. Xiri then eliminates NU, and TWW eliminates Monotype. So thus the three tiers that would be played are PU (what Xiri locked in), RU (what TWW locked in) and UU (the tier that didn't get banned). Of these tiers remaining, TWW, the higher seed, chooses to play RU first. TWW then loses game one, and chooses to play UU next. Should it go to game three, the tier to be played will be PU.)

Note: From the 6th round on, the process is the same except players eliminate only two tiers instead of three, for a total of 5 tiers being played!

How is seeding determined?

Seeding is determined through your points earned in qualifying cycles. Whoever earned the most points in both cycles is the first seed. Whoever earned the second most points is the second seed, and so on. In the likely event of a tie in points among the 32 competitors, points earned in TLT formats will be added up for each tied user. The one with more points in TLT tiers will become the higher seed.

Qualifier Check-in

When the qualified users get posted after each cycle, we ask these users to confirm their spots in this thread. Due to the shorter qualification period, we have reduced the confirmation deadline to 2 days for each user to confirm their spot. This means that the users who clinched their spot in the first cycle have until the 17th of August, and the users who qualified in the second cycle have until the 1st of September to confirm their spots. Players who do not check-in before the deadline will lose their spot. The information that should be present in the posts are as follows:

PS! Username:
Timezone:

How will the substitutes work?

In the event of an inactive player, substitutes will be available for all of week one as well as the loser's bracket of week two. These players will have to have placed 17th-20th on the leaderboard in at least one cycle in August. The order of players picked to be a substitute is the same as the seeding process described above. The person with the most points from these sixteen users will be the first to be substituted in, and so on.

Point transfers

The room owners can transfer leaderboard points that people have between their own alts. On this note, I wanted to remind everyone of a policy we have where we won't transfer points between alts within 48 hours of the cycle ending. The second part of the rule states that, you may have points transferred no more than twice during a cycle. This rule exists because our leaderboard is public, and we don't want people getting 40 points on a few different alts and combining them together on the last day of a cycle to suddenly jump ahead of people. Finally, we firmly check that the alt is yours before transferring points, so please don't request to have points transferred from a friend, or you will be heavily punished and we may take this feature away. If you have any questions about this rule, this thread probably isn't the best place, but feel free to pm any member of the tours roomauth.

To make it clear, it's fine to use an alt to qualify for TLT, as long as you confirm your spot in the thread after qualifying. Using a bunch of different alts and constantly asking to have points transferred is forbidden.

Activity Calls & Extensions

Make contact with your opponents early! The most effective way of proving communication is to post a VM on your opponent's Smogon wall to try and set a date for the battle. If you do this via any other medium, save logs and screenshots so that in the event of an activity call, you get it to go your way. Leave time zones, preferred time to play, and be specific. If neither party displays active scheduling and the set doesn't get done, the match will be coinflipped. I will grant slight extensions if needed, though please try not to make a habit of it every week.

Length

The tournament is expected to last about two and a half months. If you're not willing to commit to playing one set a week for this range of time, please consider qualifying carefully.

Will there be prizes?

To encourage people to qualify, complete their matches on time and make sure they don't go inactive once the tournament starts, we will have a prize. The prizes are as follows:

A nomination for Voice (+) rank in the Tournaments room: This will be awarded to the winner of the tournament. Keep in mind that this is not a guaranteed promotion and is subject to change. Each nomination will be discussed among the staff, focusing on sportsmanship throughout the tournament, activity, and chat presence. To be clear, if you're a rude or distasteful user throughout this tournament, your prize may be voided.

Custom Avatar
on Showdown: This year, we got a brand-new prize for the winner of TLT – and it is going to be a custom avatar for their PS account!

Player entry in the Hall of Fame: The winning player will be recorded in the Hall of Fame which is displayed on our website for all to see!

Feel free to use this thread to discuss TLT and ask any questions you may have. However, we will be moderating this thread and will delete any posts that are deemed offensive, irrelevant, or anything of the sort so do make sure to keep things civil. We hope to see you all in Tournaments chat! Good luck, and have fun!

As an added reminder: Qualifying begins when our first August cycle starts!

luisitoganga you'll have to qualify through the qualification cycle that starts on 1 august. To qualify you must be in the top 16 in terms of points earned by playing tours room tours of any one of the 2 cycles (1 cycle lasts 2 weeks) and by legends if you mean the mons that are in ubers tier then yes they can be used but something like mega ray is a no go
