name: Utility
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Rapid Spin
move 3: Yawn
move 4: Lava Plume
item: Heat Rock
ability: Drought
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
Torkoal is an amazing utility Pokemon on Fire because of its role compression, as it has Stealth Rock and Rapid Spin, combined with its ability to set sun using Drought and its good Defense stat. Yawn prevents Torkoal from being set up on and is crucial in order to force Pokemon out and get off a last minute Rapid Spin. Lava Plume is the only attack on the set and is used to spread burns. Torkoal should generally be sent out early in order to set sun and Stealth Rock up for its other teammates. It should be preserved throughout the match in order to set sun and remove hazards constantly. Maximum HP and Defense EVs along with a Bold nature allow Torkoal to take hits from Pokemon like Tyranitar and Excadrill with more ease.
Pokemon like Cinderace and Rotom-H appreciate Torkoal's hazard removal, while the entire team benefits from the sun Torkoal sets. Pokemon like Charizard and Cinderace in particular appreciate Torkoal's Yawn in order to find more opportunities to break down the opposition. In return, Torkoal appreciates these same Pokemon, as they can revenge kill faster Pokemon like Hydreigon and Duraludon that threaten Torkoal.
