Torterra! Great Pokemon!

Personally, I think Torterra is a great Pokemon with great defensive/tank-ish capabilities. It also goes good with a Tyranitar (Sand Stream). Here, is CurseTerra!
Torterra- @ Leftovers?
Relaxed/Adamant
EVs- 252 HP, 252 Attack, 4 Defense
Moves- (Bold=STAB)
Curse
Wood Hammer
Earthquake
Stone Edge/Crunch
Hmmm... Your take on Torterra?

I think it's a very good Pokemon I don'treally know why it's underused maybe because of the x4 Ice weakness but Garchomp and Gliscor gots that. Even though it's a great wall I use these movesets on my Torterra

Torterra@ Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 HP / 132 Atk / 128 Def

- Subtitute
- Leech Seed
- Wood Hammer
- Stone Edge

SubSeed set Wood Hammer and Stone Edge have good coverage wish Torterra was faster.

Torterra@ Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Atk / 200 Def / 56 HP

- Wood Hammer
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

Tank Set. Wood Hammer and Stone Edge is good type coverage. Earthquake is a great move with STAB and Stealth Rock for team support.

Your set is also good and I'm gonna try that.

Hmmm... I like your second moveset. Stealth Rock, never thought of that! I have several Turtwigs to waste, so...
However, why speed? If it's a tank, Why not bear with your bad speed and just pump into HP or Defense?
Also, perhaps a Synthesis moveset might be good for him?

Hi! My name is Ice Beam and I completely and uterrly rape Gliscor, who is MUCH better than Torterra as a wall!

Hi! I'm Rhyperior! Me and my friend Gliscor are WAY better than Torterra at physical walling, and hey! It's cousin Skarmory!

The problem with Torterra is its 4x weakness to Ice, which every pokemon seems to be packing these days. It can take a physical hit or two, but it's not nearly fast enough to heal and set itself up with Curse or Swords Dance, all while avoiding death. This is the chief reason it's in UU. And besides this, it's movepool is incredibly limited, basically making sure the only powerful moves it has are STAB, which doesn't bode well for taking out Dragons, Fliers, and the like. However, no one can argue that you don't innovate, which the metagame is in desperate need of. As such, I'll present this:

Torterra@ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Sp. Def/ 152 HP/ 60 Atk/ 40 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -Sp. Atk)
-Earthquake
-Wood Hammer
-Synthesis
-Curse/ Swords Dance

Basically a copy of my Hippowdon set, all you need is a turn of set-up and you're ready to sweep. Curse or Swords Dance is a matter of personal preference. I personally strongly prefer Curse over Swords Dance, as Curse will mean you can spend more time attacking and less time healing. Or, if you want a pure wall, try this set:

Torterra@ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Def/ 200 Sp. Def/ 52 Atk
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -Sp. Atk)
-Amnesia
-Synthesis
-Stealth Rock
-Seed Bomb

Seed Bomb Wood Hammer, because the last thing you want something as frail as this to do is deal itself damage. With just one Amnesia you can withstand any Ice attack, giving you time enough to heal and dish some damage before healing. Stealth Rock deals damage to Fliers. Not the best set, but Torterra isn't the best pokemon.

I thought this kind of nonsense was talked about a few days ago in RMC. If you're going to be an asshole about it, go elsewhere. This is obviously a Torterra discussion, so instead of shooting anything that isn't a 600 Dragon in the fase, discuss the topic at hand kthx.

I've always liked Torterra tbh, I just never got around to training them. I bred a couple for local trades and whatever, and kept a few for myself, but never trained one. I came up with exactly what Zacharian listed. I was considering putting in Synthesis over SE/Crunch, but that seems like a crap idea. He does have interesting typing, though. Maybe instead of more HP (unless you are using Lefties, obviously) for EV's, throw it into the defenses.

Big deal if he's 4x weak to Ice moves - So are the 600 Dragons and a handful of other popular Pokes.

I personally like rock polish on certain sweeper torterra sets. He can hit 200 on a neutral nature with around 200 EV's (too lazy to calculate exact number).

So much for all these Turtwig whores............................

101 Subs is nice. However, it can't do much damage it return to other pokemon, even after they have attacked. I think that's the reason why he isn't as effective, because he isn't able to dish out enough damage. Don't know if it's true or not

I was thinking of using a completely oddball setup like this:

Torterra @ Leftovers
Overgrow
252 HP, 252 Defense, 6 Attack
Bold
- Sandstorm
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake

I think it'd be funny, but obviously not great. Still, I like Torterra.

Why would you use Sandstorm? Just put it in your party with Tyranitar/Hippowdon, saves a move slot.

I'm probably going to start with Turtwig, so eventually Torterra.

And the moveset I was thinking of is the same as Blazevoir's one:
(Different EVs.)

Torterra
Item attached: Leftovers
Trait: Overgrow
EVs and nature:
EVs: 252HP/148Atk/108DEF
Nature: Impish (+Def,-SAtk)
-EQ (STAB + great move.)
-Wood Hammer (STAB + possible Overgrow bonus, downside: 1/4 recoil damge.)
-Stone Edge (High critical hit ratio, nice against ices, not that you're going to switch in on them anyway.)/Leech Seed (Drains foe's HP.)
-Stealth Rock (Power-up version of Spikes, and he learns it.)

I think Torterra would be OU if it werent for Garchomp, Salamence, Gliscor, etc., because then Ice wouldn't be used so much, and Torterra would have less competition when it comes to the physical side of things.

who has said anything about torterra not being OU...........or furthermore it being UU........i think its good enough to be OU as it walls alot of things ther with its quakeslide resist
just keep it away from ice attacks and you've got a good pkmn

Torterra is excellent as a Quakeslide counter, not many pogeys can boast that ability to switch into both of them for NVE damage. It can hit hard with STAB Wood Hammer and Earthquake too.

I think it suits both the Swords Dance/CB attacking role, and the Leech Seed/Stealth Rock etc defensive T-tar counter very well.

I wouldn't bother cursing with it though. Surely on the turn you curse, they just switch to one of their many Ice users, and you simply switch out. I would much prefer to smack said user with a hard STAB attack, or set up with one of the above moves on the switch.

Its also quite an incredibly poor setup for a discussion. One line and one half baked moveset without any reference doesn't give much to discuss about.

See the difference?

Sorry, but Torterra has 95 Base HP. It's 5 Base HP from being able to dish out 101 Subs. It cannot do 101 subs, and never was able to.

Eh... Losers.... All of you. None of you could think of the obvious CB set that doesn't care about being 4x weak to Ice because it requires no set up? Especially, after it being on Serebii for two months... tsk.. tsk..

Torterra @ Choice Band ** Tortilla
Trait: Overgrow
EVs: 212 HP / 40 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Wood Hammer/Seed Bomb
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
Anyways, you need near max defense to survive 2 CB Crunches from TTar without Leftovers. I'm too lazy to figure out the exact figures though. HP allows for maximum.... lol I was about to say Lefties Recovery... Anyways, the EV's can be tweaked, but you need Impish Nature and near Max HP and Def.

It isn't that torterra is bad he is just easily out classed ( Tangrowth, Gliscor, Rhyperior, Skarmory) which makes him appear to be bad. Actually never mind he is a tool.
I remember there was this one guy who wanted to make a choice scarf torterra. It was pretty lol.

Torterra can in no way run an effective Curse spread namely because it doesn't have the defensive coverage for both Physical and Special moves to survive long enough to make it worth while. Pokes like Snorlax can curse because they can sponge special hits without any stat upping, and Pokes like Slowbro can Calm Mind because they already have the Physical sponging.

Torterra can Physical sponge fairly well, but its typing and overall Special Defense gives it problems for trying to Curse. Torterra can hit and run effectively though, switching in on Physical hits and hitting on the switch, making him optimal for a choice band. Hits hard, runs away. About the best he can do.
