Five. Week Five of TPP III is here!

Format :

Our 8 tremendous teams will compete in a straight round-robin tournament, and every team will get to play against every other team. At the end of the round-robin, the top four teams will move on to our series semi-finals, where the #1 seed will take on the #4 seed, and #2 will take on the #3 seed, to determine our grand finalists. A win will be worth 2 points, a draw 1, and a loss 0.

Note : Every player on the team must play once in the 7 weeks of round-robin.

Sportsmanship: Don't be an ass. Not to your opponents, not to your team, not on PS, not on Smogon, not to me. A bit of friendly banter is ok, but please know where to draw the line. Think before you type, please.

Scheduling and Activity Wins: Contact your opponent as quickly as possible on their Smogon wall, and look out for them on PS. You will have one week from the posting of the week's matches to get it done, and I will not be granting any extensions for any reasons. If your opponent is not responding to your post on their wall, cannot be found on PS, or miss multiple scheduled times, make a detailed activity post in the thread letting me know why you deserve the win. No activity post means no activity call. As long as you have visible attempts at scheduling (such as wall posts), you will be fine.

Disconnections and Timer: A timer loss is a loss. No if's, and's, or but's about it. If your opponent is nice enough to replay that's fine, but they are by no means obligated to.

Ghosting and Identity: Don't take or give battle advice or make moves based solely on the suggestions of others, and don't pretend to be someone else in order to play as them. You will be caught, and you will be disqualified from this season as well as future PS! tournaments (BLT, PSPL, etc.).

Substitutions: Managers are free to substitute out inactive players at any point during the week with any subs they chose during the draft. Be sure to post in the thread when making a substitution.

Rands : i want a lamp (60) vs trace (40): lamp has been doing better so far
Bo3 OU : Splash (60) vs Stareal (40): Turns out stareal is still struggling meanwhile Splash is doing fairly well here

Doubles NU : Zoaw vs Memoric: That is the best sounding fart I've ever heard. Every time I listen to it, it sounds like a different fart, and I notice a new part to it. The sound is so rich and nuanced. It has so many different stages to it. Any one piece of this fart could be taken as an excellent fart all on its' own, but they all add up to a glorious symphony. It might have been crafted by mouth, but it doesn't matter, it's still art.

SnM : Icemaster vs fabwooloo: Among Us (coloquially termed "Amoongus") teaches us to punish the minority and hate those who are different and unique as "impostors." Instead, I like the breath of fresh air this problem provides as a new perspective on deduction that is not "red is sus, red vented, spore, etc." that has been dominating the jokes of my peers and the view of my feed. Yet, by trying to force this problem to conform to "Amoongus," you yourself are trying to crush originality and uniqueness. Among Us is a game ultimately convincing us to conform to menial labor as "tasks" and accept the deal of being just like the rest of the crewmates.
Rands : Casual dot exe vs Pujo: The problem is you're focusing on the things in life that don't really matter. When I was a kid I had hopes and dreams. We all did. But over time, the daily grind gets in the way and you miss the things that really matter, even though they are right in front of you, staring you in the face. I think the next time you should ask yourself "Am I on the right track here?". I don't mean to be rude but people like you I really pity. So maybe you could use the few brain cells you have and take advantage of the knowledge I have given you now. Good luck.

We as a species are devolving at a rate faster than naturally possible. We cannot sustain this exponential retrogression; we will encounter extinction much sooner than anticipated if we continue to promote a society centered around such mindless, unintelligent entertainment as this. Please do not let this happen. Donate to a charity. Educate yourself on one of the sciences if you haven't already. Find solace and/or enlightenment in a religion if you choose. Just don't promote this. We are better than this. ND Same Six : shiloh vs Leru: Leru bacwards is Urel. As in Urel Stoneheart, the first earthen king. He received Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings from the titans themselves. With it he was to create and give life to the rest of his brethren. Unfortunatly Shiloh backwards is Holihs. I have no idea what Holihs means, but I doubt it can beat Urel Stoneheart.

Gen 8 Doubles NU : queso vs Drivetacos - queso has performed better so far, while the Impostors's DNU slot has looked really lacking in the builder. While we didn't necessarily see much from queso performance-wise in Weeks 1 and 2--they got cheesed and then they cheesed their opponent--I think their performance in Week 4, in play and in the builder, showed much promise. Drivetacos had a good team Week 3 but they also devolved into using whatever they did in Week 4, and the teams brought by this slot in earlier weeks were also p sus. If queso builds solidly they should win as I rate them as much more fundamentally sound, while Drivetacos needs to close the gap through the builder.

Gen 8 Doubles NU : LTG vs Shadowmonstr7 - Shadowmonstr7 has been giving reliable performances so far as they don't really use anything that would screw them over by team preview, which lets their reliable play do the talking. LTG, meanwhile, I think has been a little too ambitious in the builder, using Sand W1 and Psychic Terrain W2; if they build more grounded reliable stuff like they did last week this should be much closer, though they still have to be mindful of making their plays more efficient to avoid stuff like Tailwinding against a team with 5 slow mons like last week. I am expecting Shadowmonstr7 to win just off their pedigree.

Gen 8 Doubles NU : Crunchman vs Surfy - Surfy's team usage so far has been the most diverse I've seen while still maintaining reliability and effectiveness, and how good they've been shows in the 3-1 record they currently have. Crunchman's performances, meanwhile, I can see to be a bit overly ambitious--their teams for Week 1 and 2 looked a bit gimmicky, while in their Week 3 game I think they were playing too overly aggressive. If Surfy keeps their head down and plays a levelheaded game, making sure they don't get caught unawares by surprise gimmicks, I think they should take it, though Crunchman has been no slouch either and I think they just need to play more soundly. Should be close.

Gen 8 STABmons + Almost Any Ability : Don Vascus vs Elgino10 - Elgino knows how to play the tier as we've seen, and don definitely isn't the greatest staaaber in the pool, so this might be closer than we think. Both are currently 1-2, taking a win vs someone they were not expected to win against (riceman for don, atha for elgino). Don, being omm staff, is generally pretty experienced and knowledgeable in omms, so in terms of staaab knowledge, he should have more than elgino. I think Don will win but I wouldn't be completely surprised if elgino won.
Gen 8 STABmons + Mix and Mega : WMAR vs Akashi - Wmar has been doing pretty well, currently being 3-1 with pretty solid performances, while Jeran, despite being a great player and tours room veteran, hasn't shown his best yet. Wmar has proven to be a goat in this tier, beating pretty notable players, while jeran is shown to struggle vs purely omm oriented players, players who are probably more familiar with the tier, having lost to some of the very same players wmar has beaten. Because of this, I think wmar should win. Heck, the w and m probably stands for "Winning More" and idk about the rest.
Bring 10 Pick 6 Random Battles w/ Dynamax : i want a lamp vs trace - Happened. Lamp has been doing extremely well, so I'm not surprised at all. He's motivated because he still wants that lamp.
Best of 3 No Team Preview Gen 6 /7/ 8 OU : Splash vs Stareal - Hl match. Both are great players and very experienced in ou. Star being star and splash being splash. Splash has been doing pretty well imo despite the 2-2 record, and while we all thought star would originally be the real star of this ou pool, he hasn't had the best performances or luck, so the real stars are actually gray and ez. The fact splash has been doing better so far, and the fact I think splash has the edge in gens 6 and 7, splash should have the edge here but he's still facing ou's former star(eal), no surprise if he wins.
CaMonotype : PA vs TectonicDestroyer - PA may have had the toughest opponent in the first week, cause they ended up gaining a winning streak after losing to Euph, despite having to face kythr and jolly togekiss. PA definitely came back really strongly after week 1 with some pretty good performances, showing they may just be a top contender in this tier. Then we have tect, who has only played 1 week in staaab and lost, while pa played every week so far and is 3-1. While I can't say a battle between poisonous glue and a literal destroyer of tectonic plates supports my claim here... I think pa wins here, but as being a destroyer of tectonic plates suggests, tect is good, and kinda unpredictable.
Gen 8 Doubles NU : Zoaw vs Memoric - Memoric is the best in this pool. Zoaw is a decent doubles player but you just can't beat the goat. He probably says "meeeh" not only because his opponents are meh in comparison, but because he's an actual goat.
Gen 8 National Dex Ubers w/ No Obtainable Formes : Kate vs mammalu - Despite the rough loss last week, Kate is still undeniably a top contender in this tier, being a great player with plenty of ag experience, and while mammalu isn't a bad player, they haven't had a lot of success in this tier. Kate, being generally more consistent, should win this.
Gen 8 National Dex Same Six : Ninja vs 100%GXE - Gxe may have lost last week and ninja may have subsequently almost beaten tony (losing due to a bit of bad luck), but that won't affect my verdict here. Gxe is goated as a player, and quite the creative/solid builder, and while ninja has def shown some creative builds in the past, I think gxe has the better builds, and is overall the better player. So no matter how stealthy ninja is with approaching this game, gxe won't be caught off guard, and will strike back with even sneakier tactics.

Absolute Absolposters (8) vs Icirrus City Impostors (0) (This would have been more like 6-2 or 7-1 but 2 games were played)

Gen 8 STABmons + Almost Any Ability : The Number Man vs Atha - Hl match. Arguably the best staaab match we'll see for the entire tour. A seriously hype match between the best staaaber and the second best staaaber, and let me tell you, the difference in greatness between them isn't that much, this should be really close, and a bit of a tossup honestly. Both players have performed really well so far, being 4-0 and 3-1 respectively, and both have a lot of experience and prowess in the tier, along with being solid players overall. However, I'm pretty sure tnm has more experience, being the former staaab tier leader and all, so I think tnm might be slightly better here, but atha should have a good chance at winning too.
Gen 8 STABmons + Mix and Mega : Icemaster vs fabwooloo - Interestingly these two have the same record at 2-2 each. Joey has had some pretty unfortunate mus and not the greatest overall showings so far, while ice, despite his record, has been doing pretty well in his games. Both are experienced in this tier, and while being a fabulous wooloo is good, having "master" in your name is some very real credentials as to how good you are, of course. Overall, I think ice is the better player and has had better showings, so I'll pick ice to win here.
Bring 10 Pick 6 Random Battles w/ Dynamax : Casual dot exe vs Pujo - Happened, which is unfortunate cause I considered this an hl. I... actually predicted Pujo for this, but he was outdone by a not-so-filthy casual
Best of 3 No Team Preview Gen 6 /7/ 8 OU : Gray vs airfare - Happened, which is unfortunate cause I also considered this an hl. I wasn't completely sure about this before it happened, but was leaning gray. Now I severely worry the absols are gonna win 8-0 this week.
CaMonotype : kythr vs temp - Happened. Temp may have been getting a lot of bad luck in mus lately, but I was thinking kythr won this regardless. Also, yeah, I see an 8-0 coming.
Gen 8 Doubles NU : queso vs Drivetacos - Similar to what memoric said, I think queso has definitely performed better, despite not having a great run so far. Drivetacos, despite probably being more of a doubles main, really hasn't shown anything noteworthy in their only 2 performances. In this game, I think queso will prove to his oppo that cheese is just as equally worthy of being driven as tacos are by winning.
Gen 8 National Dex Ubers w/ No Obtainable Formes : WSun1 vs lotiasite - I'm glad we get to see more of loti. Wsun1 has been pretty damn good in this tier, having only lost to kate, while loti has only played once so far and royally screwed himself over in that game by getting reverse swept by ditto. Wsun1 is an experienced ag player, and while loti also has plenty of experience in ubers and ag, Wsun1 has played this tier every single week, and has shown solid consistency, so they're the more reliable choice to win here.
Gen 8 National Dex Same Six : shiloh vs Leru - Ok... hear me out... Leru has 2 trophies... is what I'd say if not for the fact he's 1-3 rn. Leru is good, but he hasn't been doing great so far, and has experienced some hax, while shiloh, holy shi*-loh. Shiloh has been doing really well, even having gotten a nice win over gxe last week. Showing solid play, creative builds, great play, consistency and having gained momentum with a 3-0 streak going, I think shiloh will continue to grow his win streak.

Gen 8 STABmons + Almost Any Ability : 23Gz vs Ax - The left's coming off their first loss and the right's coming off their second win, yet I think their results will swap this week. 23Gz may have lost last week, but he's been doing really well so far, currently being 3-1 with his only loss vs atha. Ax hasn't been doing too bad either, but 23gz has had good performances throughout the tour, and is more knowledgeable and experienced in the tier. Because of this, I think 23gz will continue winning again, starting here.
Gen 8 STABmons + Mix and Mega : PociekMociek vs DerpyBoi - This one should be pretty close. Both have performed well so far, and they seem pretty even in terms of skill and prowess in the tier. However, I think placu's performances have shown more consistency even in defeat and I believe he's faced tougher opponents overall. Though not by much, I will slightly favor placu, but I wouldn't be surprised if derpy wins, both are pretty good.
Bring 10 Pick 6 Random Battles w/ Dynamax : snorlax142857 vs saba - Snorlax is a rands main, but you don't need to main rands to have success in this tier, as shown by everyone who has played rands on the lopunnies. Saba is a great player overall who can play most things, and based on some performances I've seen from snorlax in the past, I think saba's def the better player here and should win. You know what they say, and I feel this is very appropriate in snorlax's case, "You snooze, you lose."
Best of 3 No Team Preview Gen 6 /7/ 8 OU : Trade vs Vaboh - Its unfortunate, vaboh just got his first win last week vs myjava, and then he's immediately greeted with one of the best players in the tour. I don't know why Trade hasn't been slotted in more, cause personally if I had a goat like trade on my team, I wouldn't trade them for any other player. As I previously mentioned, trade is a very goated player overall, and can play pretty much anything really well, especially upper tiers I've noticed. I don't see trade losing here.
CaMonotype : toxya vs StitChuu - Neither of these guys are great, but I've seen toxya around tours room plenty in the past, earning points too. Vs someone who does a fair amount of room tours, I don't really see stitch, king of likewhoring winning here, as like I've mentioned every other time before, stitch likewhores more than playing mons these days. I think toxya will win this, and he'll probably be more motivated to do so with the pults having a stronger chance of making playoffs than the deerlings, who have little to no chance.
Gen 8 Doubles NU : LTG vs Shadowmonstr7 - I believe this is a rematch from blt. Both are doubles mains who've both been playing doubles since gen 7, but one's a solid player who's had a good tpp run so far, and the other is inconsistent and hasn't had a great run so far. Shadow is the better doubles player and possesses more consistency, so I think shadow should win here dominantly.
Gen 8 National Dex Ubers w/ No Obtainable Formes : pannuracotta vs BasedWhat? - Comparing these 2 based(what) on performances so far, I've been more impressed with pannu and believe he's shown more consistency. I haven't been as impressed with basedwhat. Because of that and the fact I think pannu is better here, I think pannu will get his 3rd win.
Gen 8 National Dex Same Six : Axelsior vs cy - Cy may have only played camomono so far, but as an overall player, he's pretty good. Axel is definitely a good player as well, but he only played once so far, and lost by choking his game. Cy may have been playing a different tier but he's been slotted in every week. Both are great players in their element, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is close, but I'll give cy the edge.

Me and Rice will be doing a Staaab bo3 consisting of Randomly Generated Teams, Same Six and Staaab NFE, Saturday around 7-8pm gmt -4. Should be fun.
