Trevenant

  • Trevenant's ability Harvest (Which gives it a 50% chance of re-obtaining a berry it held and used at one point) allows it to take on a somewhat wall-ish role.
  • Decent attack allow it to make use of Horn Leech, giving it another form of recovery.
  • The combo of Substitute and Leech Seed allow it to annoy some mons that lack counters.
  • However, strong physical attackers like Ursaring can easily punish Trevenant's tendency to run Specially Defensive sets.
  • Trevenant is also extremely vulnerable to unnerve, which shuts it down instantly.
  • Trevenant's 56 base speed means it usually move last, however it does outspeed a fair number of Pokemon in the tier.

Moves
========
  • Substitute allows Trevenant to potentially activate it's Sitrus Berry (given it still has one) and also annoy the opponent further.
  • Horn Leech is the recommended attacking move, as it steals HP.
  • Leech Seed allows Trevenant to regain even more HP, having an effect similar to Leftovers, while also draining the target's HP.
  • Will-O-Wisp allows Trevenant to half the target's Attack, making it much harder to weaken with physical attacks.
Set Details
========
  • Maximum investment in both HP and Sp. Defense allow Trevenant to function as a special wall, since Will-O-Wisp weakens physical attackers.
  • Harvest is a must with Trevenant, as it helps its longevity significantly, making used berries have a 50% chance of being re-usable.
  • Sitrus Berry allows Trevenant to restore HP, so it is the recommended berry here.
Usage Tips
========
  • Trevenant should avoid Physical Sweepers that can outspeed it, unless they are already burned or Trevenant has a Substitute up.
  • Substitute is helpful to avoid annoying status, as these can easily wear on Trevenant.
  • Set up Leech Seed whenever you don't anticipate a Grass- Type switch-in. (Or if there is none)
  • Horn Leech is helpful against Pokemon that lack high physical bulk, or that take neutral or better damage from it.
  • Will-O-Wisping is helpful when you anticipate a switch to a physical attacker, but be careful.
Team Options
========
  • Ninetales and Torkoal get Drought, and other Sunny Day setters such as Regirock, Mesprit and Liepard are very helpful for Trevenant, as in sun, Harvest has a 100% chance of working. Regirock has a high defense, which makes up for Trevenant running Special Defense sets. Mesprit adds a Ghost weakness but has high versatility and a 580 BST, making it another choice. Liepard can set Sunny Day with Prankster priority boosts, and is a decent pairing with Trevenant.
  • Trevenant's slow speed makes a Sticky Web setter a great addition. Smeargle can run Sticky Webs along with many other helpful moves, while Shuckle adds bulkiness to the team.
  • Relicanth, Corsola, and Carracosta have good type synergy with Trevenant, as does Poliwrath. Relicanth is also a physically defensive Pokemon, but it and Carracosta can't run Swift Swim with a Sunny Day setter for obvious reasons. Corsola has good defenses that pair with Trevenant, and Pyukumuku can help if you plan to use a full stall team.

Other Options
=============
  • Trevenant can run Sunny Day on its own, but it must give up a valuable move in order to do so.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Taunt Users**: Despite all PU taunters being Water Type, Floatzel can outspeed Trevenant and Taunt it. Swift Swim Floatzel also means the opponent may be running a Rain setter, interfering with Sunny Day setters Trevenant likes having.

**Fast Physical Sweepers**: Since Trevenant's only advantage against these is Will-O-Wisp, and since it usually runs Special Defense sets, fast physical sweepers can easily wear on Trevenant's low Defense. However, if Substitute is up, Trevenant can last a little bit longer if desired.

**Unnerve**: Any Pokemon with Unnerve switching in almost instantly shuts down Trevenant, as Harvest is an extremely important feature Trevenant has. However, sometimes Trevenant can last even after Harvest has been nullified.

**Trick**: Trick users can give Trevenant an undesired item, which if un-removable, also shuts down Harvest.

Trevenant is not currently open for reservation, nor was it reserved on the reservation thread. If you want to take an analysis, try reading the OP of this thread first. However, this analysis also shows a significant amount of unfamiliarity with the PU metagame (ex Drought users), which would make reserving something else rather difficult. I'm just going to be locking this.
