Doubles Tyranitar

[OVERVIEW]

Tyranitar is the main pillar of sand teams in Doubles OU; its massive Special Defense and strong Attack let it act as the archetype's defensive backbone and take on threats such as Landorus, Naganadel, and Necrozma, while Sand Stream synergizes perfectly with Sand Rush attackers. Tyranitar has many set options to choose from to help it fit better on a team, but struggles to overcome its low Speed and common weaknesses; it also suffers from four-moveslot syndrome. Teammates like Excadrill, Dracozolt, and Dracovish appreciate doubled Speed in the sand, and in return, take down many of Tyranitar's checks, such as Tapu Fini, Urshifu-R, and Diancie. However, these cores struggle against Rillaboom and Ferrothorn, which must be checked elsewhere on the team. Offensive Tailwind setters such as Naganadel and Zapdos are especially beneficial for Tyranitar, as they check Rillaboom, Ferrothorn, and Urshifu-R while bringing another form of speed control to the team to help Tyranitar's middling Speed. Ultimately, sand is a niche archetype in the format, and Tyranitar in particular has many issues holding it back from consistency.

[SET]
name: Sand Attacker
move 1: Stone Edge
move 2: Crunch
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Stealth Rock
item: Sitrus Berry
ability: Sand Stream
nature: Brave
evs: 188 HP / 252 Atk / 68 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]

* Stone Edge and Crunch threaten consistent damage in conjunction with sand to wear down the opponent. They also hit several common Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Volcanion, Mew, and Necrozma for super effective damage.

* Ice Beam OHKOes Landorus with the Special Attack investment.

* Stealth Rock, in conjunction with Sand Stream, helps chip opponents into range of Tyranitar's and Tyranitar’s partners' attacks.

* Sitrus Berry helps Tyranitar take more hits, letting it trade more effectively throughout the battle.

There is no "best set" for Tyranitar, and the set used can vary greatly based on the rest of the team. Dragon Tail makes Tyranitar an excellent phazer, spreading entry hazard damage and preventing Trick Room. Assault Vest boosts Tyranitar's already strong Special Defense stat to incredible heights and lets it trade hits with Landorus and Volcanion even better. Additionally, Assault Vest gives room for additional coverage in Superpower and Heavy Slam for targets like Heatran and Diancie. Safety Goggles lets Tyranitar function as an Amoonguss check, further supporting this role with Taunt to protect its teammates. Choice Band lets it threaten massive damage with physical coverage options such as Ice Punch and Superpower, however it lacks staying power and gets worn down quickly. Tyranitar can make great use of Thunder Wave to function as additional speed control and provide value other than setting sand but must sacrifice an important moveslot. Custap Berry can surprise opponents who rely on Fighting coverage to KO Tyranitar and nab surprise KOes though is less consistent overall.

[OVERVIEW]
Talk more about Tyranitar itself, right now it's short and nearly all about Sand as a whole (typical Sand getting everywhere...). Some of the stuff below you already sort of have but it'll need to be reworked to add everything and fit together. Here's a list of some points to mention:
  • It has impressive bulk, use living Landorus' Earth Power (and KOing back with Ice Beam) as an example.
  • List some stuff it's good into.
  • It has set flexibility (you can also flip this on its head by saying they're all meh though).
  • Its low Speed and multitude of weaknesses mean it's vulnerable to many common Pokemon (with examples).
  • The overview is very neutral currently, mention in some form that Tyranitar/Sand is niche.
[SET]
  • Make Stone Edge main set and move.
[SET COMMENTS]
  • Add Mew as a target for Crunch.
  • Add a point for Stealth Rock, you can mention Sand as well and how they both chip stuff down, often into Stone Edge range.
  • Swap the order of the Ice Beam sentence to start with Ice Beam since that's the focus, it reads a little weird currently.
[OTHER OPTIONS]
  • Mention Safety Goggles and Taunt.
  • Assault Vest isn't really helping against Naganadel since you already tank Draco Meteor really well, I'd say Volcanion is a better example.
Tag me once implemented so I can check the added stuff.

[OVERVIEW]
  • "however over relying on Tyranitar can be problematic over a longer game" - this sounds like fluff, instead replace it with them (the set options) all suffering from the same flaws of Tyranitar's low Speed and multitude of weaknesses.
  • Remove "form an offensive core", the sentence still works without it and it sounds like a recommendation to use all the Sand Rush users together.
[SET COMMENTS]
  • Add "and other attacks" to the end of the Stealth Rock point to make it clearer the chip is useful for other teammates as well.
Good job, QC 1/2.

[OVERVIEW]

Tyranitar is the main pillar of Sand sand teams in Doubles Overused Doubles OU, (RC) (SC) it's its massive Special Defense lets it act as the archetype's defensive backbone taking on and take on threats such as Landorus-I Landorus (AC) Naganadel (AC) and Necrozma, while its Sand Stream ability synergizes perfectly with Sand Rush attackers. Tyranitar has many set options to choose from to help it fit better on a team, however all of its sets them struggle with Tyranitars because of Tyranitar's low speed Speed and its many common weaknesses. I would also add how it struggles from 4MSS - it wants a lot but can't have it all. Teammates like Excadrill, Dracozolt, and Dracovish appreciate doubled speed Speed in the sand to and in return take down many of Tyranitar's checks, such as Tapu Fini, Urshifu-R, and Diancie. However, these cores cannot beat struggle against Rillaboom or and Ferrothorn and must be checked elsewhere on the team. Offensive Tailwind setters such as Naganadel, (RC) or and Zapdos are especially beneficial for sand Tyranitar as they check Rillaboom, Ferrothorn, and Urshifu-R while bringing another form of speed control to the team (spacing) to help Tyranitars Tyranitar's middling speed Speed. Ultimately, Sand is particularly niche in the format due to being forced into stacking weaknesses to Ground Grass and Fighting types such as Zygarde Rillaboom and Urshifu-R. This is a Tyranitar analysis - not a Sand archetype analysis. I would prefer your conclusion sentence be more of an overview of Tyranitar but you have the general idea. Maybe you can mention that Sand is a niche archetype and Tyranitar struggles just by itself.

* Stone Edge and Crunch are strong STAB boosted moves that allow Tyranitar to threaten consistent damage in conjunction with sand to wear down the opponent. They also hit several common Pokemon like Kyurem-B, Volcanion, Mew, and Necrozma for Super Effective super effective damage respectively.

* Ice Beam with the Special Attack investment lets Tyranitar OHKO Landorus-I OHKOes Landorus with the Special Attack investment.

* Stealth Rock in conjunction with Sand Stream helps chip things opponents into range of Stone Edge and Tyranitar’s partners attacks. Tyranitar's and Tyranitar's partners' attacks.

* Sitrus Berry helps Tyranitar take more hits, letting it trade more effectively throughout the battle.

There is no "best set" for Tyranitar, (RC) and the set used can vary greatly based on the rest of the team. Tyranitar can make great use of Thunder Wave to function as additional speed control, (RC) and keeps it from being ignored by the opponent for multiple turns should it take an Intimidate or Will-O-Wisp. and can keep it from being deadweight but must sacrifice an important move . Tyranitar can also be ignored for other reasons, also this explains why TWave isn't run usually. Choice Band additionally lets it threaten massive damage with physical coverage options such as Ice Punch, however it lacks the staying power and gets worn down quickly, although its power is impressive. Custap Berry can surprise opponents who fail to knock out Tyranitar with the sudden proc of the berry. You can probably expand here and say it can add a surprise KO but is less consistent but other items. Assualt Assault Vest boosts Tyranitars Tyranitar's already large strong Special Defenc Defense stat to incredible heights and lets it trade with Landorus-I Landorus, (RC) or and Volcanion even better. Safety Goggles lets Tyranitar function as an Amoonguss check, further supporting this role with Taunt to protect its teammates.

I'd go Assault Vest -> Safety Goggles -> Choice Band -> Thunder Wave -> Custap Berry
Also mention Superpower / Heavy Slam on AV/CB sets as options
