Due to the new rules, Theorymon no longer has the reservation over this thread, and I have reserved the Tyranitar analysis, the analysis will be posted soon and this set will be included. Thank you for all who posted.

-Scizor does not take much from Superpower, and can hurt Tyranitar with U-turn, Bullet Punch, or Superpower.

[TEAMMATES]
-Max Speed Timid Kyogre acts as a good teammate as it can defeat opposing Groudon, Kyogre, and Scizor.
-Mix Rayquaza is also a good teammate as it can beat Groudon with Draco Meteor, Scizor with Fire Blast, and deal tons of damage to Kyogre with Outrage
-Palkia is also a good teammate as it counters Kyogre, and absorbs the Water Spouts and Surfs that Tyranitar dreads.

Alright, here's how Tyranitar handles most leads:

Deoxys-S: Win, unless they happen to trick a scarf on you, which means you lose, since you're stuck on a rather weak crunch.

Deoxys-A: It typically has superpower, so you lose. Remember that Deoxys-A is faster, and it lays down rocks. All you did was break sash. Lose.

Groudon: Lose

Kyogre: 438 Atk vs 477 Def & 404 HP (95 Base Power): 188 - 224 (46.53% - 55.45%), that is a surf to your spread with sand up, which is a good chance of a 2hko. Crunch does, 323 Atk vs 216 Def & 404 HP (80 Base Power): 129 - 153 (31.93% - 37.87%). Crunch doesn't even 2hko, and you have a choice between laying down rocks or dying with Kyogre at 1/3 health. I'd say lose here.

Skymin: 339 Atk vs 477 Def & 404 HP (120 Base Power): 186 - 218 (46.04% - 53.96%), seed flare to your spread, you can paralyze and lay down rocks before dying. Crunch does 323 Atk vs 186 Def & 341 HP (80 Base Power): 150 - 177 (43.99% - 51.91%), a 2hko 7% of the time. I'd be hesistant to call this a win, I'd say a tie.

Dialga: Superpower doesn't 2hko, 323 Atk vs 276 Def & 404 HP (120 Base Power): 202 - 238 (50.00% - 58.91%), due to the attack drop. and pulse is a 5hko, you win.

Darkrai: If it packs scarf, you lose, you beat the sash leads. Scarf renders this lead utterly useless.

Forretress: You lose, because it can lay down multiple entry hazards while you can't really hurt, and it can spin your rocks away easily. Paralysis does nothing to it.

Tl;dr version: this lead is kinda meh at best.
 
Tyranitar can cripple the opposing lead and setup Stealth Rocks, and after Tyranitar dies, I can send in a teammate and kill the opposing lead and have an advantage over the next one due to Stealth Rock
 
What lead is Thunder Wave crippling that Tyranitar's other lead sets are not?? Darkrai dies to Superpower as it is, Mewtwo dies to Crunch/Payback. Flamethrower/Fire Blast is a much better option to use over Thunder Wave, since you can now roast Forretress before it does anything stupid, as well as detering Scizor from switching in freely. I would be quite sure if you do go down the SR/Superpower/Payback/Flamethrower route, that Theorymon would have reserved it, since he's the one who posted this: http://www.smogon.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2479201&postcount=1 (The set is in the middle somewhere)

Wait what? I understand rejecting this if it's already reserved, by how can you say this set isn't good? This is probably lead Tyranitar's best set, other than the fact that Thunder Wave is over Fire Blast. I don't see any problem with this, other than having Fire Blast slotted over Thunder Wave, and maybe a mention of Focus Sash as an option if you want to beat Deoxys-A over Darkrai.

I also don't know where the idea that Tyranitar has unfavorable matchups with common leads, since the only common leads that will undeniably win against it are Groudon and Kyogre (although you still get SR up). Deoxys-S, Darkrai, Shaymin-S (thanks to Fire Blast), Dialga and Forretress all lose straight up. Mew matches up unfavorably to Tyranitar, and although it can U-turn away, Tyranitar will get SR up or do huge damage to it. If Deoxys-A doesn't have Superpower or Tyranitar opts for Focus Sash, it loses too. I think this is definitely enough to merit an analysis.

Don't forget if Tyranitar gets tricked a scarf, it becomes dead weight. That'd qualify as a loss imo. Also the choice of moves was pretty odd imo, fire blast would help this set a lot more than thunder wave, which crunch already kills all the speedy leads.
 
Tyranitar is a good Lead in the Uber-Environment but your Moves and EV's are not the best choice for the defensive Lead-Set.

Onto the Moves:

Payback is superior on a Tyranitar-Set without any Speed-EV's because you will definitely be slower than Base90-Pokes. Payback will give you not only more Power vs. Kyogre and Stuff, it also kills Max-HP-Deo-S every time (Crunch fails to ohko around 50% or more of the time) with SS taken into Account. You also dont need any Atk-Investment anymore.

76 Atk-EV's fails to ohko Darkrai 100% of the time with SS up (Darkrai lives around 20% of the time....). To remedy this problem Tyranitar should just run a Adamant Nature, which secures the ohko with SS.

Last but not least Fire Blast is superior to Thunderwave. To power it up Tyranitar should maybe use a Brave Nature (not like he needs his speed anyways).

If you take all my feedback into Account the final set should look like this:

Tyranitar (M) @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP/6 Atk/252 SDef
Brave nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Payback
- Superpower
- Fire Blast/Stone Edge(/Rock Slide)

Mention that you can use 76 SpA-EVs to ensure the Ohko on SDef-Forretress with Fireblast.
Wtih Stone Edge you can ohko Shaymin-S, whereas Rock Slide is more reliable but needs 120 added Atk-EVs to ensure the ohko vs. Shaymin-s 100% of the time (with SS).
Still takes a Non-Specsed Modest Waterspout from a Modest Max SpA-Kyogre in the SS.....

This is the best defensive Tyranitar-Lead around. Though i find the offensive one (with Sash) way better....
 
I rejected because it's reserved, if it wasn't reserved I would have just suggested a switch from Thunder Wave to Fire Blast/Flamethrower.
 
@tripe: Okay, so you're tricked a Scarf as you OHKO Darkrai. You have a 100% Tyranitar, albeit a Scarfed one, against a dead Darkrai. Most certainly not a loss...

@Conflict: I like your spread a lot better. Rock Slide probably doesn't deserve a slash, but Stone Edge is definitely helpful against Shaymin-S. However, Shaymin isn't all that common though, and Forretress is seen way more often these days, so of course Fire Blast should remain the primary slash.

@firecape: Well at least we've established that this set is not "meh". Theorymon has a lot of reserved analyses that he hasn't touched in like half a year, and if he doesn't mind, I really think this set deserves to go on site now.

Scarf renders Tyranitar as dead weight, as it can't much for the remainder of the match, and don't tell me revenge kill things lol. It presents the enemy with virtually a free turn later on in the match. It uses sr, hello free set up, and not even using wobb.

If you think about it, most leads do bring you down to a 5-5 situation, and most leads ARE indeed severely crippled if given a scarf simply because they are stuck onto one move. Say for example, Kyogre, the Thunder Wave lead set, if it's tricked a scarf and it OHKOs the opponent using Surf, what's to stop the opponent to switch to a water resist and setup?

By the way, have replaced Thunder Wave with Fire Blast
 
I suggest getting in contact with Theorymon. You will need his permission to even write this. Off the top of my head, here are the sets for TTar (I'm almost certainly forgetting some; it is no light undertaking).

  • Choice Band
  • (Maybe Bulky CB as another set, maybe just a bulky spread as the main/option spread for CB
  • Bulky Lum lead
  • Focus Sash fast lead
  • Choice Scarf
  • Mixtar (I have never used this and I'm not too sure about it's effectiveness in Ubers, but maybe someone could speak for it. If not it can always be tested.)
  • Non-Choice coverage (probably LO)
  • DD (not too sure about this either..)
Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head (I'm not even sure if a few of those work...) Theorymon probably has an outline, so again, I would suggest getting in contact with him about whether he will even let you take this.
 
Go payback over crunch to deal extra damage to practically everything.

Also, there is a focus sash lead with a 252Atk/252Spd/4SDef EV spread with a mopre offensive set worth mentioning as well (it is in project uber leads)
 
Simply because a Thunder from Tyranitar won't even do half to Kyogre, Also, Kyogre is faster and if it's a Switch-in and not a lead, it can OHKO Tyranitar with Water Spout.

I'd like to point out that the 252/252 set is more like an entirely different set. It utilises a sash and aims to outrun kyogre and 2HKO it.
 
Ok thanks calze6, however, this set attempts to utilize it's bulk so that it can successfully survive attacks from various offensive leads and KO them. However, if Theorymon allows me to proceed with the full analysis, I will included this set and credit you for it.

I didn't invent the set though. I found the set on project uber: Leads. I have used it with success, but I didn't invent it.
