Hello and welcome to the Ubers Matchmaking project! This project will not only work as a fun project but will hopefully build up an archive of Pokemon pairings and mini cores!

Matchmaking

All Pokemon are unable to function effectively without their checks and counters gone, which is where their teammates come in. These partners are capable of defeating multiple Pokemon that prove a threat to their teammates, providing invaluable support and making almost undefeatable partnerships. When you nominate a partner you should explain why the Pokémon is a good partner, how can it help the Pokémon in discussion and talk about the synergy of the core.
This project aims to brainstorm various ideal and effective partners to many Pokemon which can be, top tier threats or some more creative and underrated Pokémon.

How it will work

Every week, I will nominate a Pokemon for discussion of potential partners and submissions. You will have five days to submit and on the next two days, you and the Ubers community will vote on your favourite partner for the nominated Pokémon. The winners of each week will have their submissions put in the glorious and prestigous Ubers Matchmaking Hall of Fame

Rules

- You may only post one pair per week.
- When posting a nomination, post the set you will be nominating, followed by an explanation of how it works with the Pokémon of the week. While not required, sprites or arts of that Pokémon can be posted.
- Posting replays can be good to exemplify the synergy between the Pokémon
- Constructive criticism is encouraged but you can´t be in any circumstance or situation rude to someone when posting.
- Do not vote for yourself

Giratina-O naturally forms a core with Ho-Oh thanks to it's ability to check Rock Move Primal Groudon, anti-hazard utility and somewhat checking Primal Kyogre. Indeed, Giratina-O along with Ho-Oh beat almost every rocker around, making it a staple of the Ho-Oh BO core. Thunder Wave on this set allows Ho-Oh to demolish many things it otherwise couldn't and Ho-Oh's Sacred Fire and Toxic assist Giratina-O with abusing Hex. Ho-Oh also functions as a check to Fairy Types and Marshadow without Rock Tomb, things which otherwise shut Giratina-O down.

Giratina-Origin @ Griseous Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Def / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Defog
- Hex
- Draco Meteor
- Thunder Wave

Mega-Gengar pairs well with Ho-oh as Ho-oh checks most of Yveltal sets as well as arceus ground for Gar and spreads status through Toxic/Sacred Fire while Gengar abuses that to clear a winning path.Gengar helps Ho-oh as well by eliminating/trading mons that could give Ho-oh troubles such as Ultra-Necrozma and Lugia in case Ho-oh is running offensive sets or even Ttar for teams that relies heavily on it to check both mons.

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hex
- Destiny Bond
- Sludge Bomb
- Substitute

Zygarde is a premier partner for Ho-oh because it benefits greatly from Ho-oh's great matchups against most support Arceus forms and fairy types as well as its ability to spread status that racks up residual damage when combined with Zygarde's substitute. In return Zygarde can deal with rock move variants of Arceus Ground and Groudon. Additionally, the two form a Groudon checking core that doesn't use up an Arceus slot (Ho-oh walls mixed variants) which allows for flexibility in building balance and bulky offense teams. Finally, the provided set has the ability to wreck Mega Mence, one of Ho-oh's nastiest counters, with Devastating Drake.

Sableye @ Sablenite
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 HP / 252 OR 36 Def / 4 OR 220 SpD
Impish / Careful Nature
- Fake Out
- Foul Play
- Toxic
- Recover

So you know how every tier MSab has been in has had it + a 4x Rocks weak mon as a core (Volc, Moltres)? Yeah this is basically this core. But theres more to it than that. Mega Sableye and defensive Ho-oh double down on hazard control, taking on every hazard setter not named Mega Diancie. Sab handles PDon (SpDef variants can deal with Eruption), Deo-S and others while Ho-oh manages NDM, support Arc formes (in particular Fairy), Ferro and non-Edge PDon. This makes for a strong stall/balance backbone that can easily secure the hazard war against other teams. I’ve slashed the SpDef spread here because much of what PDef MSab roadblocks is already taken by Ho-oh, and you need the SpDef for like Eruption Don and SR UNec.

Ho-Oh + Darkceus is basically a staple core atm. Sets for both mons can vary but the advs they bring to each other remain fairly consistent. Fat/Scarf Ho-Oh help with Marshadow for Darky while Darky can provide Defog and Ultra checking for Scarf Bird. Fairies coming in on Darky do so as Defog clears rocks which allows Ho-Oh to come in and hard punish. Ho-Oh switch-ins like tina/zygarde do not appreciate judge/ice beam and DD Zyg/Mence need chip on Darky before they attempt to use Ho-Oh as a setup turn.

Congratulations to Melee Mewtwo for winning with Arceus Dark as a great partner for Ho-oh! Hall of Fame will be updated!

Week 2 is...

Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 168 Def / 252 SpA / 88 Spe
Modest Nature
- Geomancy
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Focus Blast

Xern is a great set up sweeper but it needs some help early game if it is set up and sweep the competition! Find a match to aid it!

Gengar

Gengar @ Gengarite
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Icy Wind / Destiny Bond
- Thunder

So Gengar takes every almost every Xern check, offensive or defensive, and traps them. From there, it chips them down with repeated Shadow Balls and Thunders in Ho-oh’s case. While it won’t eliminate the Xern check, it will often put it in range of a +2 Moonblast or coverage move. If worst comes to worst, Gengar can trade with something on the opposition with Destiny Bond, opening up a Xern sweep.

Naganadel @ Dragonium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Nasty Plot
- Fire Blast

Naganadel + GeoXern is a great offensive combo. They weaken each other's checks and can even allow the other to pull off a clean sweep. Really good against Balance and Bulky Offense. A staple offense team featuring Primal Groudon/Xerneas/Naganadel/Dusk Mane Necrozma/Arceus/Yveltal where Dusk Mane Necrozma is Weakness Policy, Arceus is an Extreme Killer variant, and Yveltal is Scarfed, is good enough to beat almost any build if piloted correctly.

Marshadow @ Life Orb
Ability:Technician
Evs: 252 Atk/4 Sp.Atk/252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Spectral Thief
- Close Combat
- Rock Tomb/Bulk up/Hidden Power Ice

The deer appreciates Marshadow taking out Necro-DM and Necro-Ultra for him while Marshadow appreciates Xerneas taking out Zygarde and Yvetal while providing Marshadow a tool it otherwise needs i.e liberating it from needing HP Ice and can run Rock Tomb to allow it to lure Ho-oh for Xerneas allowing it to lure common checks.

Necrozma-Dusk-Mane @ Ultranecrozium Z
Ability: Prism Armor
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sunsteel Strike
- Earthquake
- Swords Dance
- Photon Geyser

It doesn't need this set to be effective with Xerneas, but this is one of the ways it can take on several roles at once to give the Xerneas freedom to use the Geomancy set. Xerneas going to have an easier time engaging and weakening an opposing Groudon or Dusk Mane than this will (Xerneas' sets are far more predictable than Necrozma), but this can happen in reverse order. As a Dusk Mane, Necrozma tends to bring in Yveltal, Groudon, Kyogre, and in fringe cases both formes of Giratina and can buy Xerneas Moonblast opportunities to weaken its common checks and counters, or a Groudon that has been hit by a Neuroforce Earthquake. Necrozma can bring in other Necrozma as well but the exchange is generally pretty messy depending on speed ties, moves, and who bursts / doesn't burst. If Necrozma does get an opposing DM to burst or weakens it severely, it is usually a net positive for the Xerneas player. A Magearna that Xerneas brings in can buy Necrozma a Swords Dance and all the trouble it can cause with said Swords Dance, but this is harder to line up safely given what Xerneas checks. A team does need a backstop of ground immune + Arceus or at least one of the two when using this combo thanks to Groudon, but teams generally want these two traits anyways.

Gyarados-Mega @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Taunt
- Crunch
- Waterfall

Thanks to its amazing pre-mega typing Gyarados sets up on nearly every Geoxern revenge killer, including but not limited to: support DM, dual dance DM, Groudon lacking Rock Tomb, Mega Lucario, Mega Scizor, Aegislash (post mega), and Klefki (after Intimidate, Play Rough is a 3HKO on the mega forme). Although most of these Pokemon usually carry Toxic, it's able to avoid being statused thanks to Taunt. Its coverage lets it break through walls like Ho-Oh/Lugia that annoy Xerneas. In return, Xerneas finds setup opportunities on some of its revenge killers like Zygarde, Salamence, and defensive Yveltal, and appreciates it weakening Groudon/Magearna.

Shouldn't you slash Taunt for EQ? Sometimes the move can come in handy for Pex and PDon the latter which is immune to its primary SE STAB.
Taunt is more useful. Toxapex isn't that common, and 50% of the time it gets shut down by Taunt anyway because it's not running an attacking move. Crunch still deals good damage to PDon, it's pretty easy to chip via hazards/other means, and it's setup fodder if it lacks a rock move.

Yveltal @ Life Orb
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Oblivion Wing
- Heat Wave
- Sucker Punch

Yveltal is a great partner or if not one of the classic core since back in the 6th gen. Yveltal is able to threaten a variety of Xerneas checks like Primal Groudon and Dusk Mane Necrozma and is usually used in early to mid game in order to wall-break the opposing team to pave a way for Xerneas to clean late game. This LO set is equipped with Heat Wave because both of the said mons in the pairings is checked my Magearna - Heat Wave lures Magearna during switch in which puts its in range where it dies to +2 Focus Blast from Xern:

- 252+ SpA Life Orb Yveltal Heat Wave vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Magearna: 195-231 (53.5 - 63.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
- +2 252+ SpA Xerneas Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Magearna: 189-223 (51.9 - 61.2%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Even w/o Heat Wave, Yveltal is still a great partner for Xerneas as they are often paired together in teams from ladder and tours in the current state of the metagame.
