Umbreon’s incredible mixed bulk and useful Dark typing allow it to serve as a fantastic all round answer to a lot of the tiers threats like Mamoswine, Chandelure, Starmie, Doublade, and Noivern, while being able to greatly support defensive teams with Wish and Cleric support. It’s access to Foul Play, superior physical bulk, and lesser weakness to Knock Off makes it a superior choice to Chansey on a lot of fat balance teams, leaving it able to directly harm and check Ghost-types like Doublade and Alolan Marowak, and check common Knock Off users like Mamoswine and Obstagoon, taking less pressure off of teammates like Galarian Weezing to deal with them. Maximum physical defensive investment allows Umbreon to avoid being 2HKO’d by Mamoswine after Stealth Rock and by Doublade, while letting it PP stall non-Swords Dance Cobalion and Alolan Marowak.
Umbreon fits best on defensive teams, that appreciate a great mixed wall, cleric, and wish passer that can check threats like Chandelure and Mamoswine. Galarian Slowbro is a must have teammate, checking Pokemon Umbreon gives free turns to like Sylveon and Cobalion, and providing a fearsome wincon with Calm Mind. It loves Umbreon checking it’s revenge killers like Chandelure, Mamoswine, and Doublade in return. Galarian Weezing also pairs excellently, providing another check to Zarude and a check to Fighting-types like Terrakion and Mienshao, Toxic Spikes or Defog support, and helping to wear down Pokemon like Chandelure by removing their Heavy-Duty Boots with Corrosive Gas so that they can’t outlast Umbreon. Doublade provides a check to Terrakion, and an offensive check to Psychic-types that can boost through Umbreon like Galarian Slowbro and Reuniclus if running Shadow Claw. Both Galarian Weezing and Doublade appreciate Umbreons cleric and Wish support in return. Teammates like Copperajah and Celebi can provide Stealth Rock support, and check threats like Sylveon and Keldeo respectively. Celebi can also help to check Terrakion and Rotom-W and provide an offensive check to Bisharp if running Colbur Berry. Noivern can provide a revenge killer to threats like Celebi, Keldeo, and Terrakion, and a potential Defogger that can greatly improve the matchup versus Roserade Spikes teams. Bulky Water-types like Gastrodon and Mantine can help to check Pokemon like Darmanitan and Cobalion, and, if running Clear Smog or Haze respectively, a check to stallbreakers like Calm Mind Reuniclus or Slowbro-Galar; Mantine can also provide Defog support while Gastrodon can block Rotom-W from using Volt Switch.
