PROLOGUE
Long ago, a man's fantasy became a reality in a form never seen before: Kitchen Coliseum, a giant arena where chefs can cook up new original Pokemon teams and see them tested. The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Coliseum was to encounter new original teams which could be called true artistic creations.

To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of battling, and he named his men the Iron Chefs. These Iron Chefs possess invincible culinary skills, and they are:

Kitchen Coliseum is the arena where Iron Chefs await the challenges of master chefs from around the world. Challengers must build around the theme ingredient of the round. Using all their senses, skill and creativity, they are to prepare artistic teams never tasted before.

Every battle, reputations are on the line in Kitchen Coliseum, where master chefs pit their artistic creations against each other. What inspiration does this round's challenger bring? And how will the Iron Chef fight back?

The heat will be on!

INTRODUCTION
Hello, everyone! Chairman Euphonos here, and welcome to this spin-off installment of Iron Chef Smogon in the Underused Subforum, its first ever in its Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon series! This project allows the contestants to showcase their creative team building skills and to put their masterful creations to the test against some of the UU's top battlers and team builders. Each round I will pick a theme to build around, and contestants will do their best to come up with an original, effective team around that theme.

The mechanics of the project will be shown below, so please take time to read everything.
. . . . . . .

MECHANICS

STAGE 1.1: CHALLENGER SIGN-UPS
- This stage will last for three days.
- People who may wish to participate in this team building project must sign up using this format (non-compliance to this format will not be accepted on any circumstance):
Discord ID: Euphonos#9726
Time Zone: GMT +8
STAGE 1.2: CHALLENGER COOK-OFF
- This stage will take place if and only if sign-ups exceeded 12 challengers within the allotted sign-up period.
- The Chairman will hand out a personal message to each challenger. The personal message includes the secret ingredient to be built around.
- The challengers will have roughly 24 hours from the time the Chairman has sent the personal message (deadline will be posted in the personal message, too). Non-compliance to the deadline will forfeit a challenger's entry to the competition proper.

STAGE 2.1: LIVE TEAM BUILDING
- All twelve episodes of the team building project will take place in the Iron Chef UU Discord Channel, where the Chairman selects a qualified challenger to take on first, and where the secret ingredient will be revealed there.
- The Challenger and his/her chosen Iron Chef will have 60 minutes to build a team based on the secret ingredient chosen by the Chairman.
- All teams will be sent via Discord PM.

STAGE 2.2: JUDGING
- The rates from the Panel of Judges will be posted in the Smogon Forums, and the winner will be decided on both the Smogon Forums and the #announcement room of the said Discord Channel.
- The winner of each episode will be decided solely on the Judges' Evaluations, which comprises of Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness.

NOTES:
- Once an episode of the team building project has concluded, the rest of the challengers must wait for at least 36 hours before the next episode. This gives way for the judges to rate in a sound manner.

Good day, everyone! We will have an official test run for this project in between December 30, 11:00 PM and December 31, 1:00 AM (GMT -4) -- depending on what time I'm coming home from province at that time -- at the UnderUsed Room of the Main Server. This test run features one of the former Iron Chefs in one of the past seasons. Stay tuned!

Tagging the Live Participants: Wascally Wabbit, Sage of the 6, naruto(sage), Amane Misa, Darksafadao, Accelgor, 'sei., Smallsmallrose, DurzaOffTopic, Ov3r Ac3, Xiri, and Luthier to witness how the team building session works, and tagging the highly esteemed Panel of Judges Sun and SuperVegeta20 :)

Good day, everyone! The test run for UU Iron Chef Live is a huge success. It features former Iron Chef Shiba and one of the past UU Iron Chef Season 3 participants explodingdaisies. Allow me to show you the teams both parties have presented, and allow me to show you the results of this team building session, with special thanks to my co-Panel of Judges SuperVegeta20 and Sun!

EPISODE 0 (A TEST RUN EPISODE)
Secret Ingredient: Loose Vowel Movement
All teams must feature Pokemon whose one attack boosted by STAB must start with five of the most known vowels (A, E, I, O, U) and another vowel recognizable by a certain country: R. Pokemon that gain STAB upon certain circumstances (Mega Evolution, etc.) count, as long as it has given a feature (Mega Stone, etc.) that would satisfy such.

vs.

000-cr.png
What sets the team on the right apart is a severely underutilized Pokemon in Kyurem, on top of having Acid Spray on Tentacruel in favor of Haze and giving Infernape a lead set to take advantage of one of the key ingredients. This doesn't mean that the one on the left is downright bog standard in terms of this criterion; while the Pokemon there are standard at best, there were fresh options worth mentioning: Taunt Nidoking being one of those selling points.

000-es.png
These teams both take advantage of the STAB attacks exceptionally well, except for one element which made it score lower than the other: the use of Rock Slide on Mega Aerodactyl seemed forced; although the accuracy and flinch chance seemed to tempting at first, it needs the power boost from Stone Edge to dish out huge damage to the opposition.

000-ef.png
The team on the left is actually the better team in terms of this criterion, thanks to Haxorus and Togekiss being the most unforgiving Pokemon when it comes to people using a Stall team against this team; however, additional thought could have been made against offensive Latias variants (especially with Hidden Power Fire to deal against Scizor), with the reason being is that Mega Altaria not being a surefire answer to Latias as Psychic would deal massive damage against it. While the team on the right isn't too shabby in terms of effectiveness, the team doesn't have a surefire win condition apart from Substitute Kyurem; Azumarill and Rotom-Wash could still deem threatening as the compounding Water weakness could be a massive pain to deal with in the long run (especially that Tentacruel doesn't have Haze).

Therefore, the winner of this episode, leading by just 0.5 total points, is no other than...

Chef explodingdaisies!

Congratulations, explodingdaisies for winning the test run episode of UU Iron Chef! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

Good day, everyone! The first episode of the competition proper is on-going, featuring challenger Xiri and Iron Chef esche. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? We'll find out when UU Iron Chef Live returns!

EPISODE 1
Secret Ingredient: A Whole New World
All teams must feature at least three Pokemon with at least one move that wasn't learned in the earlier games. Pokemon with moves that are acquired by virtue of GameBoy Color games (Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Crystal) that were transferred to Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon count as part of the secret ingredient.

vs.

001-cr.png
The team on the right has more interesting options than the one on the left; he wanted to use a rather underutilized UU Pokemon in Mega Pidgeot, alongside Vileplume (with Strength Sap), Knock Off Nihilego, and Fire Fang Krookodile. This doesn't mean the other team isn't really standard. Putting Stealth Rock on Kommo-o and pulling off a Snorlax strategy in Recycle Alolan Muk is a rather creative take, too; it's that the rest of the team aren't exactly the most ground-breaking.

001-es.png
The three members of that one team on the right are actually integral to the success of Mega Pidgeot despite not being part of the secret ingredient itself. On the other hand, the team on the left has two of the interesting features (Offensive SR Kommo-o and Recycle Alolan Muk) though they aren't exactly optimal enough; the most notable one being Alolan Muk such that Recycle sets are definitely prone to being burned, something Snorlax would not bother taking and would just use a boosted Facade for that matter.

001-ef.png
These teams are actually very interesting that they haven't thought of putting in at least a Fairy-type Pokemon that would stomach attacks from the likes of most Fighting-types and Dragon-types. While the team on the right has a more reliable Fighting check in Vileplume, it seems that Infernape would pose a problem among all Fighting types; on the other hand, literally any Fighting type, most notably Choice Scarf Mienshao would definitely be problematic.

As for the team's effectiveness in themselves, it will be in the matter of the individual team member's consistency over the way of dealing with prevalent threats. The team on the right has the edge over the one on the left for that reason alone -- they are consistently aligned with what the team needs to do in order for Mega Pidgeot to work, though it would struggle with the likes of Rotom-Wash and Latias - there aren't any super-effective moves aimed at Rotom-Wash and Vileplume could have taken advantage of (the only thing it could deal with Rotom-Wash thus far is Z-Thunder Nihilego, which is an average-at-best answer), and no Pokemon would have taken a Psychic/Psyshock from Latias before Krookodile would even come in. As for the team on the left, while the team can hold on its own, it could have done much better to provide a more defensive backbone to stomach some strong attacks if needed (and not to mention Snorlax performing the Recycle set extremely well).

Therefore, the winner of this episode by a landslide -- leading by 3.5 total points -- is no other than...

Iron Chef esche!

Congratulations, Iron Chef Esche, for winning the first episode of UU Iron Chef Live! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

Good day, everyone! The second episode of the team building proper has recently concluded, featuring challenger Wascally Wabbit and Iron Chef pokeisfun. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? We'll find out when UU Iron Chef Live returns.

EPISODE 2
Secret Ingredient: Ray of Light
All teams must feature Pokemon (all in their base forms) whose first letters of their abilities comprise the word LIGHT, with one wildcard.

vs.

002-cr.png
While both participants have half of their teams in common with one another, the team on the left has the edge by virtue of some rarer selections such as Bronzong and Venomoth. This doesn't mean the team on the right is bog standard -- despite the team's familiarity by virtue of Heracross + Scizor + Mega Manectric, Groundium Z Krookodile is an unusual sight to behold.

002-es.png
While both teams have made use of their abilities extremely well, the team on the right edged out the opposition by virtue of having a wildcard (whether that's Latias or Manectric in that case) supplementing the team's general purpose. The team on the left has one element missing that brought a slightly lower rating in this criterion: the lack of Defog on the wildcard Pokemon.

002-ef.png
The team on the right would be the judges' choice in terms of effectiveness because it can adapt to and can deal with opposing teams of various archetypes accordingly. The biggest flaw in the team would be the lack of a reliable Fire switch-in, as both of the Fire resists are offensively oriented (Azumarill can compensate that with the additional bulk). The team on the left is somehow effective, but the flaws leave the team a lot to be desired, such as the lack of Defog on Mega Altaria, more lacking Fire resists, and its overall sluggishness before Venomoth would even set up Quiver Dance.

Therefore, the winner of this episode -- by way of edging out in the Effectiveness Criterion -- is no other than...

Iron Chef pokeisfun!

Congratulations, Iron Chef pokemonisfun, for winning the second episode of UU Iron Chef Live! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

. . . . . . .

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CHAIRMAN!
First of all, the third team building session will take place on January 8, 8:00 PM GMT -4 at the Iron Chef UU Discord Channel. And finally, it is with deep sadness that pokeisfun will be retiring as Iron Chef. Let us congratulate him for his rather solid run in the last season of UU Iron Chef, being retired with a clean slate. As for Iron Chef pokeisfun's replacement, I will be announcing that soon.

Catch you all later!

Good day, everyone! The third episode of the team building proper has recently concluded, featuring challenger Accelgor and Iron Chef CoolStoryBrobat. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? We'll find out when UU Iron Chef Live returns.

EPISODE 3
Secret Ingredient: Winter of the Wolf
All teams must feature Pokemon (all in their base forms) whose first letters of their STAB attacks comprise the word WINTER. (Note: Steelworker counts as a form of gaining STAB, a Normal move on Pokemon with Refrigerate, Aerilate, and Pixilate counts as long as the Pokemon gains STAB from such types.)

vs.

003-cr.png
Both teams have some tricks right up their sleeve; sadly, no team actually broke ground than the other. Still a valiant effort for one that ran Choice Scarf Zoroark paired with Barbaracle, and for another that ran Water Spout Blastoise and Infestation Shuckle.

003-es.png
The team on the right has some rather suboptimal options for the sake of fulfilling the secret ingredient - Needle Arm on Chesnaught could have been easily replaced by Seed Bomb, and Rock Slide, while the accuracy boost is tempting, could have been easily replaced by Stone Edge (though the Flinch chance from both moves could help at some point). While the team on the left made use of the selected moves exceptionally well, Barbaracle's Razor Shell could have been replaced easily by Liquidation.

003-ef.png
Both teams are offensive in nature, and both teams are all the more prone to being poisoned by Toxic Spikes, especially that both teams do not have a way of clearing hazards. The team on the left is somehow effective, though there are a lot of significant flaws that would spell the demise of the team, such as the lack of answers to Azumarill (because no Water resists are available), and some Fighting types due to the massive weakness of that type, in which counterplay could deem taking its chances. Lack of priority moves really hurt this team especially the team is offensive in nature. On the other hand, the team on the right is surprising and can deliver what it needs to do, although offensively-oriented Fighting types still pose a problem to this team due to the lack of Fighting resists.

Therefore, the winner of this episode -- by way of edging out in the Effectiveness Criterion -- is no other than...

Iron Chef CoolStoryBrobat!

Congratulations, Iron Chef CoolStoryBrobat, for winning the third episode of UU Iron Chef Live! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

Good day, everyone! The fourth episode of the team building proper has recently concluded, featuring challenger Amane Misa and Iron Chef CBU. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? Here are the results of the recently concluded episode!

EPISODE 4
Secret Ingredient: Tatsulok (Triangle in Filipino)
All teams must feature at least two Pokemon whose base stats total to 450 or lower.

vs.

004-cr.png
Both teams have some tricks up their sleeve, but at least in this episode, this is getting better than the previous ones, but not enough to say both have shattered ground. The team on the left has some standout sets such as a Defensive Doublade and Calm Mind Blissey, with some unusual tech moves such as Double-Edge on Azumarill (though skeptical at first) and Acrobatics on Gliscor. The team on the right makes use of Linoone and Memento Chandelure which takes a page off the Chairman's playbook, along with Oblivious Mamoswine with Endeavor and Hydreigon with Shock Wave.

004-es.png
Both teams have made use of the Pokemon in question exceptionally well. The team on the left makes use of the typing of the Pokemon in question to form a solid semi-stall team, while the team on the right makes use of the Pokemon in question as a blueprint to provide set-up opportunities.

004-ef.png
The teams presented here are very distinct in terms of polarizing play styles. The team on the left is the better team this time because he had an approach on how to take advantage of the Pokemon's types without being exactly weak to a certain type. It could have been better if it weren't for putting a Z-Crystal on Calm Mind Blissey instead to avoid getting Tricked as described earlier, and if it weren't for putting Knock Off on Azumarill which is definitely a superior move without having to deal with recoil from Double-Edge. The team on the right has a sense of direction as mentioned in the Essence criterion, but there are some flaws worth noting, such as putting a Wiki Berry on Linoone with an EV spread providing an odd HP number (lol), Shock Wave on Hydreigon, while intentional, isn't exactly enough to deal with Azumarill, general lack of hazard control which would give Linoone a hard time setting up due to being prone to Toxic Spikes, and a weakness to Trick Room with Stakataka.

Therefore, the winner of this episode -- by way of edging out in the Effectiveness Criterion -- is no other than...

Challenger Amane Misa!

Congratulations, Challenger Amane Misa, for winning the fourth episode of UU Iron Chef Live - the first challenger that defeated an Iron Chef! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

Good day, everyone! The fifth episode of the team building proper has recently concluded, featuring challenger Darksafadao and Iron Chef CoolStoryBrobat. Whose cuisine reigns supreme? Here are the results of the recently concluded episode!

EPISODE 5
Secret Ingredient: My Name is Nino!
All teams must feature at least two Pokemon whose body style only contain a head.

vs.

005-cr.png
While both teams made use of Carbink as one of the main Trick Room setters, the team on the right features a Level 1 Solosis, which is as interesting as the team on the left featuring a Clamperl. What gave the team on the right the slightest edge over the other is the use of Bewear which is less used than Crawdaunt in that affair.

005-es.png
Both teams manage to take advantage of the secret ingredients exceptionally well, especially with Carbink + other head Pokemon. Both take advantage of Trick Room exceptionally well, too; nothing can definitely go wrong with Stakataka + Alolan Marowak + Cresselia doing a whole lot of work under Trick Room.

005-ef.png
There is nothing polarizing between two teams in terms of effectiveness; both teams would have a hard time dealing with Serperior that could potentially flat-out defeat either team. However, what sets the team on the left the slight edge over the other is that it ran a Water attack to deal with a defensive Gliscor variant, something that the other team didn't manage to get without any boosts to begin with. It could have been better if the team on the right has a Mega Sharpedo in there after the whole Trick Room team has put in a massive amount of work to make way for its glorious sweep.

Therefore, due to the tough decision on the part of the Panel of Judges, the result ended up in a...
Tie between Challenger Darksafadao and Iron Chef CoolStoryBrobat!

Apparently, the teams being somehow identical to each other, and with Darksafadao's Clamperl being as interesting as CoolStoryBrobat's Level 1 Solosis, the decision became tougher to the point that the Panel of Judges agreed to give the tie. Congratulations to both parties, however, and it will be posted in the results section.

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CHAIRMAN!

Good day, everyone! Last January 17, 11:00 PM GMT -4, the sixth episode of UU Iron Chef Live has started, featuring challenger Sage of the 6 and Iron Chef esche. Will it be Sage of the 6's night to win this episode? Here are the results of the recently concluded episode!

EPISODE 6
Secret Ingredient: Vampiric Gaze
All teams must feature at least three Pokemon with at least one move that can gain HP from opponents.

vs.

006-cr.png
Based on the teams at first glance, the team on the right provided more underrated options in the form of Bewear and Golisopod. While the team on the left looked like very standard Pokemon, the sets he used doesn't look too standard at all -- most notably the Draining Kiss on Sylveon, Leech Life on Choice Band Crobat, and Refresh on Swampert.

006-es.png
The team on the right could have been forced to run Golisopod, but Araquanid could have been a potent option for its additional set of resistances by virtue of Water Bubble, and it can also run Sticky Web to help the overall team's structure; otherwise, the team has used the secret ingredient extremely well. The team on the left, on the other hand, is rather forced on using Draining Kiss on Sylveon and Leech Life on Crobat to fulfill the quota of the secret ingredient, when there are Pokemon with the likes of Comfey who can perform that role way better, and potential Leech Life / Drain Punch users with the likes of Golisopod, Araquanid, or even Bewear.

006-ef.png
While the team on the right has some share of weaknesses, such as Ice and Flying attacks, the offensive pressure this team exerts is actually intact, which makes it the better team unlike the team on the left. The team on the left suffers from a massive weakness against Freeze-Dry Mamoswine, and the team's overall direction somehow got lost due to the elements reflective of the low Essence criterion.

Therefore, the winner of this episode by a landslide -- leading by 4 total points -- is no other than...

Iron Chef esche!

Congratulations, Iron Chef Esche, for winning the first episode of UU Iron Chef Live! Your team will be posted in the results section of this thread.

. . . . . . .

ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CHAIRMAN!
It is with deep regret that 'sei. has withdrawn as one of the Live Participants in UU Iron Chef Live due to personal reasons, but it is with great joy to have someone who has expressed his interest in joining UU Iron Chef Live, and replacing sei's spot is no other than challenger ara!
