Project Underused Iron Chef Season 4 [Episode 8, Stage 3 (#115)]

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 4 - Trick room is a pretty uncommon playstyle, with some creative pokemon such as vikavolt and whimsicott. Along with creative sets like SD rhyperior, and TR whimsi. This gets a vote here for some of these reasons
2. Team 6 - Some pokemon that arent seen much like yanmega, zygarde 10%, and blastoise. Though sets are fairly standard the pokemon being used gives the vote here.

ESSENCE:
1. Team 1 - Though this is a bit subjective this week, since everyone uses the secret ingredient well to some degree, i feel the synergy of the pokemon together with this makes a very hard to break defensive team.
2. Team 2- Again a similar thing that its subjective, a good balance team that has a use for each pokemon used that causes pretty good synergy together, with momentum and defensive core to back it up.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 2 - A very solid balance team that gives the right mix of offense and defense that is hard to do in balance. Very well put together, and can deal with most threats.
2. Team 7 - Though weak to ghost types like gengar, it has the right tools to be effective as offense. Has the support to let some of the underrated threats such as feraligatr shine.

TIME'S UP!
Voting is officially over; allow me to announce the special winners for today's episode!

MOST ORIGINAL DISH: Team 3
MOST ESSENTIAL DISH: Team 1
BEST-TASTING DISH: Team 1

And now, for the big reveal on which team belongs to which participant!

This team belongs to Iron Chef warzoid.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
While some team members look standard, there are a lot of nifty tech moves at its disposal, such as Toxic on Raikou and Fire Fang on Steelix. The greatest selling points that garnered a fairly high grade in this criterion is the use of Pursuit Umbreon and Haze Quagsire, which aren't seen as much.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
This is an intriguing take on a Stall team that has surprisingly good synergy between the team members. The direction is extremely clear at how the team works, and no Pokemon is worth dropping given the restriction, hence a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7.5 / 10
This team acknowledges a weakness to Primarina, due to the lack of Water resists, and Fairy-type Pokemon with Fire moves such as Mega Altaria with Fire Blast. While Blissey could have been the biggest replacement to Umbreon, the team is quite solid enough to garner a considerably high score in this criterion, provided no restrictions given, and you have taken advantage of all the Pokemon you have used extremely well. Solid effort.

TOTAL SCORE: 16 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. explodingdaisies: WIN

This team belongs to itsjustdrew.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
The biggest selling point in this team is the use of Rocky Helmet Qwilfish, while having Fightinium Z on Nasty Plot Togekiss with Aura Sphere is icing on the cake to warrant a fairly average score in this criterion. The rest of the team is generic at best.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
The team is looking synergistic to a point that no Pokemon would be worth dropping in place of different Pokemon starting with the letters you have assigned, hence a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The team is undoubtedly solid for a balanced team, but what holds back to scoring such a high score in this criterion, despite your recorded wins against two of the Iron Chefs, is an apparent weakness to offensive Spike-stacking teams, especially when Rotom-Mow is the defogger of choice yet it is using Choice Scarf, hence serving as the emergency Defogger. This team would have Rhyperior + Starmie in this regard to maintain the team's purpose while keeping the Spike-stacking capabilities without having to clear the Spikes and Stealth Rock both Qwilfish and Rhyperior put their blood, sweat, and tears on. Nonetheless, this is the best team that you have made so far, which is a strong effort on your part.

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Ov3r Ace: WIN
vs. Darksafadao: WIN

This team belongs to DraconicLepus.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
Pawniard and Qwilfish are the selling points of the team's creativity; while most Pokemon running Rain Dance are actually nifty options to keep Rain going, hence a fairly high grade in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
The team employing a Rain Dance strategy makes it all the more intriguing, but what holds the team back from garnering a higher score than expected in this criterion is Pawniard being quite slow and possibly killing the momentum the rest of the team needs (though Thunder Wave mitigates that, anyway).

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
While the team has some legitimate threats that could make waves to opposing teams, apparently, dealing with some of the threats in the team (especially Serperior, which is somehow reflective on your match against Iron Chef Darksafadao) only include sacrificing a Pokemon and eventually revenge kill it when Rain is up. Despite the lack of better rain abusers (to a point that Kingdra could have been there), the concept of a Rain team given the restriction is all the more present, which is a valiant effort on your part.

(PS: Raikou with Weather Ball is required to have a Shiny and a Rash Nature.)

TOTAL SCORE: 14 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Miraklez.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
While the concept of Trick Room with Uxie and Stakataka looks generic, the selling point for the team's creativity is the offensive Rhyperior and Vikavolt that was literally not seen before, hence a fairly high grade in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The concept of Trick Room is actually there, but what holds back to getting a considerably higher score than expected in this criterion is the bizarre choice of Pokemon that ended up looking like a hyper-offensive one. While Trick Room teams are offensive in nature, the team must still have some form of bulk and resistances that would help take hits comfortably.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5 / 10
Reflective to the Essence criterion, the choice of Pokemon is rather bizarre that there would be some Pokemon worth dropping out, like you could consider running some of the Pokemon worth abusing under Trick Room such as Guts Ursaring, among others. Regardless, dedicated Trick Room teams aren't making much traction due to the need of keeping Trick Room up to a point that it needs some form of a speedy sweeper to clean up once the teams are weakened after Pokemon like Stakataka and Rhyperior have finished their job, hence the major drop in the score in this criterion.

TOTAL SCORE: 12 / 20

Battle Replays
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to GamingSynergy.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Choice Scarf Durant being the most underutilized Pokemon in the team is the biggest selling point for creativity; with a different Empoleon set being the icing on the cake, the team warrants a fairly average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
The team looks generic in terms of the game plan; but there could be possible replacements in the team starting with the letters you have assigned. Dual Grass looks intriguing, but the lack of Fire resists makes it possible to replace some of the Pokemon: example being (Calm Mind) Chandelure over Celebi to improve match-up against Fire types.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5 / 10
The team has one large threat that is worth addressing, and it's no other than Fire-types, which is greatly exemplified in the match against one of the Iron Chefs (even Darmanitan and Alolan Marowak look extremely threatening here, since it could literally kill almost anyone in that team with a simple Flare Blitz). Reflective to the Essence criterion, there would be some Pokemon worth replacing that could bolster the team's effectiveness as aforementioned. It is seemingly apparent that the team looks slapped with offensive teams then adding a defensive backbone; make sure that the synergy between those Pokemon regardless of purpose and role is integral to the team's overall success.

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Rawbi.

CREATIVITY: 4 / 5
There are a lot of uncommon Pokemon in this team that are worth giving a considerably high score in this criterion. Azelf and Cobalion being commonplace in the metagame hold it back from garnering a score higher than expected.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
The direction of this hyper offensive team is spot on -- without a doubt, garnering a considerably high score in this criterion. What holds it back to giving a score higher than expected is that Mega Blastoise, given the restrictions in this episode, looks quite slow to keep the pressure against fast offensive builds.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
The only thing worth addressing in the team (which is fortunately not seen from the match against one of the Iron Chefs) is Scarf Hydreigon due to the lack of answers -- Cobalion might get caught by Fire Blast on the switch. If that's the case, the team needs some more priority users, which Decidueye can greatly appreciate with Shadow Sneak over Substitute. Sash Breloom could somehow be problematic, but it could've handled that much better. Otherwise, this is one of the better teams made so far with these restraints. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. xMarth: LOSS

This team belongs to SuckyTheClown.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Defensive Doublade and Wish Espeon are the selling points for the team's creativity, with Feraligatr putting some traction these days are icing on the cake, garnering a fairly high score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The team looks solid in terms of the offensive presence, but what holds it back from garnering a score higher than expected in this criterion is that Defensive Doublade and Wish Espeon is somehow destroying the team's overall momentum to a point that Escavalier, among other candidates, would be one of the deserving Pokemon integral to the team's success even with such restrictions.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
As mentioned earlier, the offensive presence brought by the team is present, but due to defensive Doublade and Wish Espeon on the team, it lost all the momentum the team needs. Speaking of momentum, Mega Manectric is one of the Pokemon worth addressing in this team, since you don't have much answers against it; if that's the case, Donphan, while not exactly as reliable, would provide an Electric immunity to the team and can survive a hit from Hidden Power Ice, and can also provide Stealth Rock that your team seriously lacks. Despite these things, it is still a valiant effort on your part to build such a team.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

TIME IS UP!
Voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

This team featured two tailed bipeds in the form of Mega Slowbro and Hydreigon: the former taking a slew of hits while still dealing a good amount of damage to the opposition, while the latter taking advantage of its Speed with Choice Scarf to revenge kill some of the speedy Pokemon in the tier, and a tailless biped in a form of Roserade, capable of breaking bulky Waters and Fairies by virtue of its STAB moves while disrupting other defensive Pokemon with Sleep Powder. Terrakion served as a support to Mega Slowbro to break down troublesome Pokemon while setting up Stealth Rock for the team. Rotom-Heat serve as a formidable check to Grass types while clearing hazards off the field. Scizor finally capped off as a set-up attacker and pivot at the same time.

This team featured Garbodor pairing up with Defensive Dual Status Klefki to stack up Spikes to the opposing team. Rhyperior is then added to provide Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a check to Gliscor thanks to Solid Rock and Ice Punch. Breloom and Celebi were then added to bolster the team's offensive capabilities: the former covering the physical spectrum with Swords Dance + Toxic Orb; the latter covering the special spectrum with Nasty Plot. Finally, Mega Altaria rounded the team as the late-game sweeper with Dragon Dance.

This defensive team featured a tried-and-tested core of Blissey and Mega Aggron, both of which are capable of taking any attack with relative ease. To cover the core's Fighting weakness came Moltres and Gliscor, both of which are capable of spreading Toxic to the opposition and clearing hazards off the field with Defog. Quagsire was then added to take hits against numerous set-up attackers, while Alomomola rounded the team as a back-up Wish passer whenever Blissey fails to do its job.

This team featured Future Sight Mega Slowbro with Choice Band Heracross at the side as a way of dealing with defensive builds. Whimsicott and Rhyperior comprised the defensive backbone of the team: the former disrupting any chances of setting up with Encore while clearing hazards off the field, while the latter taking any hit with relative ease while setting up Stealth Rock for the team. Alolan Muk served as a buffer against special attackers thanks to Assault Vest, while Moltres capped off as a late-game sweeper with its offensive Agility set.

This team featured three Swords Dance attackers in Breloom, Crawdaunt, and Gliscor: the former two having a priority move with a respective boosting ability to pick off any weakened attackers, and the latter having natural bulk to take hits and an ability to recover lost health. Compounding the offensive prowess of the core came in Scizor to trap opponents with Pursuit or to gain momentum by virtue of U-turn. Seismitoad served as a catch-all wall and hazard setter for the team. Finishing off was Hydreigon with Choice Scarf to serve as a revenge killer against some of the speedy Pokemon in the tier.

This team featured an offensive bipedal core containing Lucario, Charizard, and Seismitoad: the former being a wall breaker, the other one being a revenge killer, and the latter being a tank capable of taking hits and then deal some reasonable damage to the opposition. Mega Houndoom was added to serve as a sweeper thanks to its naturally high Speed; Latias was added to serve as a Calm Mind attacker with Dragonium Z. Finally, Togekiss served as the Defogger for the team.

This team featured Choice Band Krookodile as the team's wall breaker, coupled with Celebi and Lucario as the Nasty Plot attackers. Mega Sharpedo served as the team's sweeper, once the opponent's team is weakened enough. Bronzong served as the Stealth Rock setter for the team while providing a slew of resistances to take hits comfortably. Finally, Crobat provided hazard control for the team while serving as the team's offensive pivot capable of dishing a huge amount of damage to the opposition.

This team featured a bulky Infernape set catching some of the most conventional checks and counters off guard by spreading burns through Will-O-Wisp. Mega Aerodactyl was added to take down some of the speedy Pokemon in the tier, while Hydreigon was added to take care of Blissey. Primarina then served as the glue to the team, offering a slew of resistances to take hits against some of the troublesome Pokemon the last two Pokemon would struggle to defeat. The latter three Pokemon were the supporting cast to allow both Nidoking and Celebi to sweep against the opponent's team.

This straightforward Aurora Veil offense team was filled with four set-up attackers in the form of Bibarel, Haxorus, Slurpuff, and Breloom, all of them being capable of setting up mostly Swords Dance and Belly Drum.

This hyper offensive team featured Azelf as the suicide hazard setter for the team, which is then coupled with a myriad of attackers of different styles: Golurk can outpace most of the speedy Pokemon in the tier by virtue of Rock Polish, Stakataka has Trick Room to take advantage of its abysmal Speed, Togekiss and Lucario has Nasty Plot to take advantage of their stellar Special Attack stats, and finally Mega Sharpedo to pull off a sweep when the team is weakened enough.

This team featured two Normal-type Pokemon to spam their STABs with: the first one being Bewear with Normalium Z to break walls while switching moves comfortably, while the other one being Swellow with Choice Specs equipped. Hazard setters in Roserade and Rhyperior were then included in the team: the former providing Toxic Spikes for the team and serving as a check against Breloom and Serperior; the latter providing Stealth Rock and serving as a check to Mega Aerodactyl and other Choice Scarf Pokemon. Mega Altaria provided hazard control for the team while serving as a check to Hydreigon upon Mega Evolution, while Chandelure rounded the team as the Revenge Killer and as a momentum gainer with Memento.

The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for at most FOUR of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2, Team 3, Team 4
ESSENCE: Team 3, Team 4, Team 5, Team 6
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 7, Team 5, Team 3, Team 1
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!
3. Team 3 - At first glance, the Pokemon looked standard, but upon further examination, the team has some creative touches to it.
4. Team 4 - This team has some extreme form of weirdness to warrant a vote, but don't expect this team to translate to effectiveness as well.

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 4 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.
3. Team 5 - This core is just doing what it is supposed to do, enough to warrant a vote.
4. Team 6 - This Pokemon could've been used by a different Pokemon, but I guess it filled a niche enough to warrant a vote here.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 7 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 5 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
3. Team 3 - There may be some weaknesses worth addressing, but the match-up against several builds is pretty advantageous enough to warrant a vote.
4. Team 1 - Match-up against this certain archetype isn't really advantageous against this team, but the concept and its execution is scary to a point that its effectiveness could be given some form of consideration.
The Chairman becomes a little lenient by not requiring everyone to put the reasons behind their vote! While the Chairman is hoping for a better voter turnout in this episode and in the succeeding episodes, should the UU community wants to put reasons behind their vote, those are very welcome.

. . . . . . .

The UU community has until
WEDNESDAY, MAY 30, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

Good day, everyone!

I would like to send my sincerest apologies for not keeping up with the times. Various choral excursions gave me little time for me to go back to the participants' dishes and judge them. In this case, the voting phase for this episode will still be on-going until further notice (and will be announcing when the next episode be aired; the former statement on the shortening of the building phase will be retracted). Hopefully you guys still stay tuned; what I am asking for at this point is moral support for all of my endeavors.

Again, my sincere apologies for any inconveniences that may have caused you. At this point, invite everyone to vote. :)

Finally.

Apologies for all the delays that may have caused you; now, the big reveal has arrived!

This team belongs to Jetstertsyko.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
The team and its respective sets look generic at first glance, but with Roserade being one of the uncommon anti-metagame options picking up a bit of steam and with Rotom-Heat and Stealth Rock Terrakion on the side, this warrants a fairly average score in the category.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The core containing Slowbro + Hydreigon + Roserade looks promising, but from the looks of it, Scizor being the win condition of the team is not enough to pick up those wins to a fact that it could have taken advantage of using Calm Mind on Slowbro with that EV spread chosen.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
The team is greatly synergistic on paper to a point that it takes a surprise set to catch you and this team off guard. However, the team's match-up against stall is not exactly great due to the lack of a back-up win condition (hence the suggestion on Calm Mind on Mega Slowbro in this regard). Also, the lack of a Fairy type means that Dragon-type Pokemon would seriously overwhelm this team, and this team has to tread carefully against Hydreigon since switching Scizor in is not exactly safe due to Fire Blast. Nonetheless, this is the best team done by you so far in this episode, which is a strong effort on your part. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: WIN
vs. warzoid: LOSS

This team belongs to SuckyTheClown.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The only stand-out in this team in terms of the creativity is the presence of Garbodor; otherwise, the rest of the team employs standard sets at most.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
The team has a solid concept in mind (which is hazard stacking), although the manner of controlling hazards on your side of the field is extremely lacking, and Garbodor looks forced in this instance (since your team already has fulfilled the required amount even without that Pokemon) and it could have been relegated to things like Rapid Spin, among all things.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5 / 10
The most glaring weakness in this team is a rather uncommon Substitute Kyurem; while you have some countermeasures against it with the likes of Breloom and Klefki bearing priority moves, when coupled with opposing hazard stacking teams, the team is in a world of trouble. Another missing element the team needs is the presence of a Taunt user -- no wonder your Spike stacking strategy will render useless by most Defoggers when played right. However, the saving grace for this team is the direction the team is going, which is a good step for the team's success. Keep that course, and you'll find success in the long run.

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. warzoid: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Miraklez.

CREATIVITY: 1 / 5
This team extremely the most standard stall team ever seen; putting Curse on Quagsire is not enough to slightly raise its score.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
What lacks in the aspect of creativity makes up for the team's essence, since Blissey + Mega Aggron + Quagsire are the staples of every stall team.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
There is no question that this team is effective since it has almost all of the tools required for a Stall team to flourish. Sadly, Nasty Plot Togekiss and Calm Mind Chandelure serve as big threats to the team: the former has to rely on Mega Aggron not getting flinched too much, while the latter sets up on Blissey and destroys the rest of the team if not handled properly (although the Speed EVs on Gliscor somewhat mitigates that situation).

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: WIN

This team belongs to SharpyTrain.

CREATIVITY: 1.5 / 5
This rather offensive team runs some of the most standard Pokemon with the most standard of sets -- the only standouts for this category is Seismitoad and Crawdaunt (both not being seen as much).

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
While Seismitoad acts as the required tailless bipedal Pokemon in the team, Swampert could have handled that way better for an offensive team, hence not giving a perfect score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
Straightforward offensive strategy with almost all of the tools, which is nothing short of amazing. However, there are some issues worth addressing, including the lack of potent switch-ins against any opposing Breloom variant and all other Dragon types (Hidden Power Fire Latias and Fire Blast Hydreigon) as Scizor is the most capable of handling those threats -- with Choice Band equipped, Scizor isn't capable of taking hits any time soon. Despite those shortcomings, this team is a huge improvement from the teams you've made in the past; solid effort on your part. Keep that direction up.

TOTAL SCORE: 10 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Borderlands LH.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
The team uses Lucario and Seismitoad which employs an all-out-attacking set along with Choice Scarf Charizard and Sucker Punch Houndoom which warranted a fairly average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 1 / 5
Sadly, this team is all over the place -- the bipedal core isn't exactly the most optimal sets ever imagined, thus making it straight up bad at what they do. Try reinventing the core's purpose before you could slap the most unorthodox of Pokemon to its fullest.

EFFECTIVENESS: 3 / 10
This is where the team's effectiveness crumble to ashes, reflective of the Essence criterion. It seemed that Latias serves as a win condition for the team, but it lacked some form of support to make these things ultimately happen, and everything is over the place due to how suboptimal the sets the team members employ. This team needs to find a direction, and it needs that kind of direction to shine in the succeeding rounds. Valiant effort on your part, nevertheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 7 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Nightingales.

CREATIVITY: 1.5 / 5
Barring Choice Band Krookodile, this team looks generic at the very least; the fact that you're using a team building pattern from your existing team doesn't help either.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
What makes up for the lack of creativity is the cohesion of the core: Krookodile, Celebi, and Lucario breaking down most of the troubling Pokemon in the field for Mega Sharpedo to sweep is a cool strategy, hence a considerably high score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
Team looks solid without a doubt, but there are some issues worth addressing. With Sharpedo being the team's sole Fire resist (and is not one of those Pokemon capable of taking hits), Darmanitan and Entei (with the possibility of Arcanine) can take them out once they come in. With Krookodile not running Choice Scarf, Mega Manectric could run this team through unless Mega Sharpedo has accumulated enough Speed Boosts. Also, Hydreigon could pose a threat here due to the lack of a Fairy type (Lucario isn't supposed to take some hits well at this point, though Vacuum Wave can mitigate such issue). Finally, to gain more offensive traction to the team, Bronzong could have used Hypnosis over Toxic to gain momentum for an offensive team like this. Solid effort on your part, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 12 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS

This team belongs to PinkDragonTamer.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team looked extremely generic at first glance; Infernape and Primarina donning some unique sets stood out the most in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
The choice of secret ingredient (Infernape + Nidoking + Celebi + Hydreigon) is undoubtedly cohesive enough to warrant a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
The team is solid enough, but there are issues worth addressing. The first concern is that it somehow needs hazard removal, especially that your team has Mega Aerodactyl which needs to survive with Stealth Rock off the field, thus being another victim to Substitute Kyurem + spike stacking teams (Ice weaknesses are actually overlooked these days due to the lack of a threatening Ice type like Mamoswine). Another concern is the team's match-up against Serperior and Latias: both of which looked fair since Mega Aerodactyl can somehow cover that; otherwise, they are not enough to take out and they can pose a threat to the team once they come in.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: WIN
vs. warzoid: LOSS

This team belongs to Iron Chef Ov3r Ac3.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
While this team looked predictable with Aurorus and Alolan Sandslash in there, but the addition of Bibarel and Slurpuff made it somehow fresh to warrant a fairly average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
The choice of secret ingredient (four physical attackers with Alolan Sandslash on the side) is straightforward enough to warrant a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
The direction the team is going is extremely straightforward, which definitely translates to effectiveness. However, this is one of the cases of "when something fails, everything else fails" -- with Aurora Veil off the field, the team wouldn't do much against an opposing team when not played well enough; therefore, it needs some form of a sweeper when the opposing team is weakened enough, since it looked like most of the teams serve as wall breakers.

It's also interesting to note that Bibarel's Z-Rain Dance doesn't double its Speed by virtue of Simple, which is extremely sad. Valiant effort on your part for trying to showcase some underrated gems, though!

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Smallsmallrose.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Golurk is the only stand-out Pokemon in this team in terms of creativity, while Chople Berry Stakataka and Babiri Berry Togekiss are actually icing on the cake. The rest of the team looked standard at best.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
The choice of secret ingredient, especially Golurk, is intriguing, to say the least, and the direction the core has is present enough to warrant a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
The direction the team is going is clear enough that translates into effectiveness; while it looked like Stakataka is the misfit to the team due to Trick Room (and the rest of the team having a Speed-boosting move or ability or are naturally fast enough to outrun Pokemon), it is actually understandable to see such direction going on. However, the team looked weak to most Fire-type Pokemon (Darmanitan, Entei, and Chandelure, to name a few), since Sharpedo is the sole Fire resist for the team and it shouldn't be taking any hits well due to its frailty. Also, the team would struggle against Mega Manectric before Golurk would even set up Rock Polish, since most of its moves could potentially leave the rest of the team wounded and unable to set up for the rest of the turns. However, this is a solid effort on a hyper offensive team, well done!

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS
vs. Sage of the 6: WIN

This team belongs to Rawbi.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Swellow, Bewear, and Roserade aren't exactly used as much in the Underused metagame, but they are worth some points in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The choice of secret ingredient is intriguing, to say the least. However, what holds back to getting a rather high score in this criterion is the lack of cohesion and a lack of a game plan to win games (you don't have a solid win condition for this team apart from Bewear).

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
The direction your team employs is actually intriguing, to say the least. However, the element that went extremely missing in this team is the lack of a more solid win condition; Bewear with Swords Dance is there to simply break walls for defensive builds, but all the more dead weight for its offensive counterparts; you did not take advantage of the several set-up opportunities the team has with the likes of Sleep Powder Roserade and Memento Chandelure. Finally, Choice Specs Kyurem would be of great nuisance to your team thanks to your team's massive Ice weakness and Chandelure being the sole resist of that type; it needs to be tread carefully. Valiant effort on your part, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 12 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. warzoid: LOSS

If you may notice, Team 4 is skipped, and it is for a good reason, because...

This team belongs to Chairman Euphonos. Note that it serves as a placeholder and doesn't count to the Iron Chefs' win-loss records.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
This team uses underrated options with the likes of Future Sight Mega Slowbro and Choice Band Heracross that can catch opponents off guard if they don't tread carefully, and Defog + Encore Whimsicott is actually icing on the cake for its creativity. What makes the team not garnering a perfect score in this criterion is that Alolan Muk bears the most generic set among them all.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The concept of the team is definitely tried-and-tested despite losing its luster to its more actively offensive counterparts; what holds it back to garnering a higher score in the category is the team lacking other forms of countermeasures against set-up sweepers apart from Encore Whimsicott.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
The direction on the team is clear-cut since it takes advantage of breaking walls with Future Sight Mega Slowbro and Choice Band Heracross, while sweeping with Moltres when the team is weakened enough. However, with Alolan Muk's workload being extremely heavy, that Pokemon being down allows Latias to wreck opposing teams apart unless Whimsicott is played nicely. Speaking of Whimsicott, the Pokemon being its sole Defogger isn't exactly that reliable in some cases -- a stray Toxic on some of the defensive Pokemon with the likes of Swampert and Hippowdon could potentially cripple it, given no cleric support is made. Despite those shortcomings, the team is actually solid enough to warrant a fairly high score in this criterion.

TOTAL SCORE: 15 / 20

Voting is officially over; allow me to announce the special winners for today's episode!

MOST ORIGINAL DISH: Team 10 (Smallsmallrose)
MOST ESSENTIAL DISH: Team 8 (PinkDragonTamer)*
BEST-TASTING DISH: Team 3 (Miraklez)

*Initially, Chairman Euphonos would have been awarded, but since the team serves as a placeholder, the award will be given to the actual participant bearing the highest percentage.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The winner of this episode, with a cumulative weighted average of 59.96%, goes to...

Chef Jetstertsyko!

Despite the team not being part of any of the best dishes as voted by the UU community, Chef Jetstertsyko's team won the hearts of the Panel of Judges for being the most synergistic balanced team among the rest of the participants, hence the team being etched in the Hall of Fame. Here's the spreadsheet on how I come up with all the computations.

**Note that the Iron Chef Chairman Euphonos could have awarded the best team here with the cumulative weighted average of 61.13%; however, the team serves as a placeholder and it will be awarded to the actual participant with the highest percentage.

The fifth episode of Iron Chef will be up very soon, with some of the most explosive announcements. What will the Chairman unveil? Find out when Underused Iron Chef returns!

ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN
I regret to inform that Iron Chef explodingdaisies has stepped down to attend to real life matters (we do look forward for your return, though!). In this case, the Iron Chef Chairman himself, Euphonos, will be his temporary replacement for two episodes (5 and 6) until new appointees take place. Therefore, the Iron Chef Chairman has appointed vivalospride to become the Interim Chairman, the role being the point person for all team submissions. However, the Iron Chef Chairman will be responsible in choosing secret ingredients and in awarding the winners for those two episodes, therefore he will still be active at this rate.

ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Good day, everyone! Again, I would like to apologize for all the undue delays that may have caused to everyone.

Apart from explodingdaisies, Iron Chefs Sage and Ov3r Ac3 stepped down in their positions as Iron Chefs. Instead of the initial plan of appointing vivalospride as the Interim Chairman (which didn't happen to work during that time), the Chairman has placed the three people who were part of the Panel of Judges (vivalospride, sparrow, and Amane Misa) to become Interim Iron Chefs until Episode 6, in which new appointees will be set afterward. This means that the Chairman will be left behind as the sole judge at the time being -- unless he could seek help from the former Iron Chef staff who are willing to help in this regard, and that the Chairman will be the point person for team submissions.

With that, the fifth episode is now up!

For this episode, allow me to introduce to you one of the prolific scientists in the Victorian era; let us all welcome...

SIR FRANCIS GALTON!
Sir Francis Galton was an English Victorian era scientist and mathematician who created the statistical concept of correlation, who was the first to apply statistical methods to the study of human differences and inheritance of intelligence, and who introduced the use of questionnaires and surveys for collecting data on human communities. He also devised a weather map, proposed a theory of anticyclones, and was the first to establish a complete record of short-term climactic phenomena in Europe.

Do you know that he is also Charles Darwin's half-cousin?

[source]

As a scientist who was the first to study inheritance of intelligence, he pioneered a scientific branch that became the secret ingredient for this episode! You may now raise the dome!

. . . . . . .

EUGENICS!

Sir Francis Galton is also a pioneer of eugenics, coining the term itself, and the phrase "nature vs. nurture". The world of Pokemon is no exception in this affair; in particular, there are Pokemon who can learn moves by natural means, while there are Pokemon who can learn moves by other means to stand out from the rest. Therefore, participants must build a team featuring at least two Pokemon with all of its moves that can be learned by a Technical Machine (TM).

While there are no restrictions with the Technical Machines since they change from generation to generation, the restriction is such that the moves available as a Technical Machine should be accessible starting from that generation that Pokemon was introduced.

Example: Bronzong with Stealth Rock / Toxic / Protect / Psywave
With Psywave being available as a Technical Machine only in Generation I, and Bronzong being introduced in Generation IV (in which Stealth Rock is accessible), this moveset does not count toward the secret ingredient.

Participants have until
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

TIME IS UP!

The team building phase for this episode is finally over, and there is only one entrant in this episode, and it is no other than Smallsmallrose!

However, he is not alone in this round, because there is one Iron Chef giving him a showdown of his lifetime, and it is no other than...
<image soon>
IRON CHEF Darksafadao!

Participants will have until
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to challenge any of the Iron Chefs available.

Again, please take note that no win/loss post should be placed in this thread for anonymity purposes. The Iron Chefs will disseminate all battle replays in one of the private rooms in Iron Chef UU Discord Channel. Tagging Iron Chefs xMarth, warzoid, and Interim Iron Chefs Amane Misa, sparrow, and vivalospride to prepare the battlefield and to advise all participants with regards to the aforementioned rule.

TIME IS UP!
Voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

This team mainly features Stakataka not only to fulfill the secret ingredient for this episode, but also to fulfill its purpose as an offensive semi-Trick Room team. Stakataka is then paired with Mega Camerupt as a reactive answer against most Electric types with the likes of Mega Manectric, and with Cresselia as a back-up Trick Room setter and as an answer against Terrakion and Cobalion. Togekiss serves as the hazard controller of the team, while doubling up as a lure against Scizor thanks to Flamethrower and Babiri Berry, and against Hydreigon thanks to Dazzling Gleam. Heracross serves as the wall breaker for the team that benefits from any field -- with Trick Room or not. With Starmie and Ghost-types being a hindrance to the team's success, Choice Scarf Hydreigon is then added to take on those Pokemon.

The idea behind this team's composition is making use of Chandelure to draw Dark moves with Substitute such that Terrakion can take advantage of by virtue of Justified. Amoonguss is then added to promote more set-up opportunities for both Chandelure and Terrakion thanks to Spore. Empoleon and Hippowdon serve as the defensive foundation of the team, providing all the tools the team needs to succeed such as Defog and Stealth Rock, respectively. Finally, Hydreigon serves as the revenge killer, taking out relatively faster threats before Terrakion would make a move.

. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for only ONE TEAM in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1
ESSENCE: Team 2
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 2
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY: Team 1 - This team has some extreme form of weirdness to warrant a vote, but don't expect this team to translate to effectiveness as well.

ESSENCE: Team 2 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.

EFFECTIVENESS: Team 2 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!
