TIME IS UP!

The voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

The goal behind this team's success is to whittle down the opponent's health en route to a Reversal Hitmonlee sweep with Liechi Berry-boosted Reversals. It starts off either with a regular Aerodactyl as a suicide lead, with Double-Edge disallowing Rapid Spinners and Defoggers to clear hazards, or with a Nidoqueen as a hard-hitting Pokemon; both of them have Stealth Rock to ensure hazards on the field. Offensive Empoleon with Defog and Physical Mega Sceptile with Grass Whistle are then used to serve as a lure against some of their would-be counters. Finally, Gardevoir acts as the speed control of the team, with its Fairy typing that allows it to dodge Dragon attacks with ease.

This team started off with a classic core containing Talonflame, serving as the late-game sweeper for the team and Mega Blastoise, serving as the wall-breaker. Bewear compounds Mega Blastoise's wall-breaking capabilities with Taunt and Swords Dance and has great match-up against relatively slow Pokemon. Honchkrow with Assault Vest is then added to provide support for Bewear's wall-breaking capabilities by virtue of Pursuit. Finally, the last two Pokemon are dedicated hazard setters, integral to the success of the aforementioned Pokemon: Klefki, a Spikes setter capable of taking Dragon attacks with ease, and Nidoqueen, a Stealth Rock setter capable of taking VoltTurn cores with relative ease.

This Balanced team features two set-up attackers in Espeon with Calm Mind and Entei with Howl and Firium Z. Espeon provides mind games with Magic Bounce, and Entei serves as a late-game sweeper with Flame Charge boosting its Speed. It is then bolstered with three bulky Pokemon in Amoonguss, serving as one of the most sought-after pivots with Regenerator, Rhyperior, serving as the Stealth Rock user for the team, and Porygon2, serving as a blanket check against Special attacks. Finally, Honchkrow is included as its designated revenge killer with Foul Play to outsmart anyone who attempts to set up at it.

This Balanced team features a rather generic but unconventional defensive backbone in Mega Steelix and Florges. Slowbro is then added to improve its match-up against Terrakion-heavy teams by virtue of its defensive prowess and Stall archetypes by virtue of its Block set. Moltres is then added to serve as a proactive Scizor answer, and is coupled with Tsareena to clear Stealth Rock off the field that Moltres dislikes taking upon switching in. Finally, while the addition of Raikou is stemmed from providing another Electric resistance for the team, it is justified to break bulky Pokemon by virtue of its offensive Calm Mind set with Hidden Power Grass and Normalium Z-boosted Hyper Beam.

This offensive team starts off with Araquanid setting up Sticky Web early in the game. It is then compounded with defensive Chesnaught capable of taking hits with ease and setting up Spikes. Rhyperior is then included to lure in Mega Aerodactyl and Togekiss and deal massive damage to the opposition by virtue of Stone Edge. Volcanion is then included as a Scizor answer and it has Toxic for potential switch-ins against other bulky Pokemon. Finally, two Pokemon takes advantage of Sticky Web extremely well: first being Zygarde-10%, whose Choice Band set is a formidable force to be reckoned with along with its all-purpose Thousand Arrows, and the other one being Necrozma, a Calm Mind attacker capable of potentially defeating its would-be threats.

. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2
ESSENCE: Team 2, Team 3
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 3, Team 1
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 2 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 3 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 3 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 1 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
The Chairman becomes a little lenient by not requiring everyone to put the reasons behind their vote! While the Chairman is hoping for a better voter turnout in this episode and in the succeeding episodes, should the UU community wants to put reasons behind their vote, those are very welcome.

. . . . . . .

The UU community has until
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are

TIME'S UP!

ADVISORY FROM THE CHAIRMAN

First of all, we would like to welcome our newest addition to the UU Iron Chef after Darksafadao has to leave the post as Iron Chef: our newly appointed Iron Chef itsjustdrew!

Also, the rates from the Panel of Judges are actually done, but the Chairman will post as soon as possible due to temporal constraints. However, we will now proceed to the eighth episode! Time to lift up the domes!

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS!

We are all familiar with cores with rock-paper-scissors relationships, such as Fire-Water-Grass, Steel-Dragon-Fairy, and Fighting-Psychic-Dark. What if these rock-paper-scissors relationships has to be incorporated in the whole team? As such, participants are required to build a team of six featuring either ONE of the three featured types. Pokemon with dual typing is acceptable, as long as it fulfills the target type.

(tl;dr: Participants must build a team of six Pokemon that must contain types that belong to either: Fire-Water-Grass, Steel-Dragon-Fairy, or Fighting-Psychic-Dark.)

Take this as an example.

Participants have until
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

Good day, everyone! Apologies for any undue delays that may have caused everyone. I have gotten into a rather hectic schedule this week (especially coming from a whole-day choral excursion last Saturday isn't helping me a lot). Anyway, the teams for the seventh episode have now been revealed!

This team belongs to Nightingales.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
This is one of the most creative teams ever presented this episode by virtue of vastly uncommon Pokemon in Hitmonlee, Nidoqueen, Gardevoir, and Focus Sash Aerodactyl, coupled with unusual choice of sets on the other two Pokemon that are rather common in the metagame: Offensive Empoleon with Defog and Physically-inclined Mega Sceptile with Grass Whistle. While the whole team composition grants a considerably high score in the category, what holds back to getting a perfect score in this criterion is the use of generic sets for Nidoqueen and Gardevoir despite being uncommon in themselves.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
The team's goal is to attain a Hitmonlee sweep by virtue of Liechi Berry-boosted Reversals; sadly, the rest of the team poorly supports this goal to a point that the team lacks a clear direction of it tries to do.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5 / 10
First of all, the downfall to the team's effectiveness is reflective to its aforementioned Essence criterion the team lacks some form of direction even with a goal in mind by virtue of Hitmonlee. Next, the defensive synergy of the team is rather poor to a point that even Scizor could outlast your team rather easily -- whether everyone in the team gets chipped by U-turn, or Scizor could set up Swords Dance without fail (especially when Hitmonlee doesn't have Mach Punch). This could have been compensated by putting Fire Blast on Aerodactyl or (at least) Flamethrower on Nidoqueen to mitigate such problem. Notwithstanding, Hitmonlee is a promising Pokemon to watch out for and to build teams with; with the right kind of support, Hitmonlee can attain such a sweep -- which actually really shows in your match against one of the Iron Chefs.

TOTAL SCORE: 11 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Smallsmallrose: WIN

This team belongs to Iron Chef vivalospride.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
This team warrants a fairly average score in this criterion by virtue of rather uncommon but classic Mega Blastoise + Talonflame core, coupled with Bewear packing Taunt and Honchkrow equipping Assault Vest.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
While this is one of the most straightforward teams strategy-wise, the biggest downfall this team has is the questionable use of Honchkrow, which seemed to be used for the sake of creativity when another Pokemon could have been used to cover one of the team's most glaring weaknesses in Mega Manectric.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
The team is proficient at what it does due to the synergy brought by Mega Blastoise and Talonflame, with Mega Blastoise being able to deal with hazards off the field while also being able to break past walls that could potentially be problematic to break past. As reflected in the Essence category, the over-reliance of Nidoqueen is way too much for VoltTurn teams to handle, especially when that Pokemon gets chipped easily; as such, Mega Manectric is freely able to click its Electric STAB against the rest of the team, single-handedly being able to score a kill against almost the entire team. Another weakness this team brings is the patented Suicune set (VinCune) since no Pokemon in the team would be able to break through once it sets up Calm Minds which is exemplified in one of your matches against one of the Iron Chefs. Nonetheless, it's a valiant effort on your part to build a team featuring an underrated classic.

TOTAL SCORE: 11 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. esche: LOSS
vs. Smallsmallrose: LOSS
vs. warzoid: LOSS

This team belongs to Jetstertsyko.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
This team employs both the use of Espeon, which hasn't been seen nowadays, and Entei, which is used as a sweeper -- an uncommon set compared to the wall-breaking Choice Band variants. Also, with Porygon2 and Honchkrow getting some traction in this metagame (especially the latter having Foul Play), this team warrants a considerably fine score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
What the judges are looking for in a team, especially in this criterion, is its cohesion. While the Pokemon in themselves function well on their own, putting them together doesn't help in terms of synergy, sadly. For example, your team has a couple of win conditions in there, but it lacks some oomph to take down some of their counters, and the bulky Pokemon employed aren't synergistic enough to cover almost all of its bases.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
The team does have a general good structure, but as reflected in the Essence criterion, the team doesn't support each other enough for either of the win conditions in Entei or Espeon to shine. As for your weaknesses, due to the team lacking a Water-type, literally any Water-type -- a bulky variant like Suicune (VinCune being the most threatening), or an offensive variant like Crawdaunt or Sharpedo -- can potentially plow your team with ease. It is a mediocre performance on your end as you have a lot of team building potential in you. A piece of advice: try to be as resourceful as possible in crafting teams that will be effective despite the constraints. Still a valiant effort, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 10 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Smallsmallrose: LOSS

This team belongs to PinkDragonTamer.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
With a Slowbro set that has been getting a lot of traction in the tier, the greatest selling point of the team is the use of Curse Mega Steelix with Stealth Rock and an offensive Raikou set forgoing the Substitute ones; the rest of the team being standard gives the team a fairly average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
This team epitomizes essence for this episode; at first glance, the team is extremely synergistic without having to force out any Pokemon for the sake of attaining the quota of the secret ingredient in question. It really defines that using hidden gems could be of great help to the team by virtue of its anti-metagame traits.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The team is undoubtedly one of the most effective teams, but the downfall the team suffered greatly is the unusual choice of sets that compromised the team's supposed offensive presence. Two Pokemon delegating towards hazard clearing looks too redundant (unless it contains a Shedinja) especially when Moltres is the only Pokemon fearing Stealth Rock the most among all other Pokemon (though Toxic Spikes could be a justifiable one); otherwise, you could have put Moltres an offensive set (Agility could be more reliable) instead to improve its match-up against other relatively bulky Pokemon (especially Block Slowbro is there to trap Blissey anyway), along with Choice Scarf / Choice Specs on Raikou in order to score massive damage to the opposition. Regardless, this is the most functional among all other teams in this episode; good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. esche: WIN

This team belongs to SuckyTheClown.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Zygarde-10% and Necrozma has been under the radar for such a long time, and perhaps for good measure; however, you made a valiant effort in using these Pokemon for this episode. Along with Sticky Web Araquanid and Chesnaught, this team warrants a fairly decent score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
This team is expected to be an offensive team as it features Sticky Web; sadly, you didn't fully take advantage of Sticky Web as it only benefits to at least two Pokemon being Necrozma and Zygarde-10% (Volcanion too, but it's not enough since it doesn't have Choice Specs).

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
The team, as reflected in the Essence criterion, does not use Sticky Web to the best of its ability. Also, the lack of hazard clearing makes this seemingly Balanced team extremely weak to the rather uncommon Toxic Spikes. The team needs a lot of offensive pressure without having to rely too much on hazards: you could go for different Pokemon to set up Stealth Rock and Spikes while keeping intact its offensive presence and takes advantage of such extremely well -- Nihilego is the best replacement for Rhyperior in that regard. Regardless, Sticky Web match-up is extremely volatile, so it has a cap on its effectiveness, unless you redefine such things which you failed to deliver. However, it's still a valiant effort to build such a team like this, though definitely not a fan of Balanced teams with Sticky Web on them.

TOTAL SCORE: 10.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Euphonos*: WIN

This defensive Fire-Water-Grass team features three Pokemon packing Toxic to take advantage of Hex Jellicent, with Salazzle being the selling point due to its capability of poisoning literally almost everyone in the metagame by virtue of Corrosion. The Water Pokemon along with Amoonguss comprise the defensive backbone of the team while providing almost all of the tools the team needs, such as Stealth Rock from Swampert and Defog from Empoleon. Mega Houndoom caps off as the late-game sweeper of the team with Taunt, most especially to prevent Heal Bell users from having themselves healed from Toxic poison.

This Fire-Water-Grass team features a sturdy bulky water backbone in Empoleon and Swampert along with Amoonguss. It is then paired with Rotom-Heat as the key Pokemon in dealing with Mega Manectric and Mamoswine. Nasty Plot Infernape and Mega Sceptile cap off as they provide most of the firepower for the team.

This Steel-Dragon-Fairy team features an offensive powerhouse in Hydreigon, with Choice Specs tearing up holes for the team, and a tried-and-tested defensive backbone in Empoleon and Sylveon, providing almost all of the tools the team need. Kommo-o is then added to double as a wall breaker by virtue of Dragonium Z-boosted Outrage and as a sweeper by virtue of Dragon Dance boosting its Speed. Klefki is then added to provide Spikes and Speed control for the team. Finally, Latias is added to provide another layer of Speed control and to disable any support Pokemon such as Blissey by virtue of Trick.

This Fighting-Psychic-Dark Bulky Offense team starts off with Cobalion as the standard Scizor check for the team, which then coupled with Crawdaunt for its immense wall breaking capabilities. Krookodile is then added to provide Pursuit support and key immunities to some problematic attacks. Slowking and Mienshao are then added to provide more offensive pressure: the former using Future Sight as a way of pressuring opponents, the latter uses Fighting attacks to exert pressure especially with Future Sight ticking. Both of them have Assault Vest and Regenerator to serve as pivots for the team. Finally, Latias provides another way to further take advantage of Crawdaunt's wall breaking abilities.
