TIME IS UP!

Voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

Due to the overwhelming amount of teams this episode and due to the Chairman's successive choral excursions during Phase 2, descriptions will also be revealed at the end of Phase 3, along with the battle replays and the rates from the highly esteemed Panel of Judges.
. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for at most FOUR of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2, Team 3, Team 4
ESSENCE: Team 3, Team 4, Team 5, Team 6
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 7, Team 5, Team 3, Team 1
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!
3. Team 3 - At first glance, the Pokemon looked standard, but upon further examination, the team has some creative touches to it.
4. Team 4 - This team has some extreme form of weirdness to warrant a vote, but don't expect this team to translate to effectiveness as well.

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 4 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.
3. Team 5 - This core is just doing what it is supposed to do, enough to warrant a vote.
4. Team 6 - This Pokemon could've been used by a different Pokemon, but I guess it filled a niche enough to warrant a vote here.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 7 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 5 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
3. Team 3 - There may be some weaknesses worth addressing, but the match-up against several builds is pretty advantageous enough to warrant a vote.
4. Team 1 - Match-up against this certain archetype isn't really advantageous against this team, but the concept and its execution is scary to a point that its effectiveness could be given some form of consideration.
The Chairman becomes a little lenient by not requiring everyone to put the reasons behind their vote! While the Chairman is hoping for a better voter turnout in this episode and in the succeeding episodes, should the UU community wants to put reasons behind their vote, those are very welcome.

. . . . . . .

The UU community has until
WEDNESDAY, MAY 16, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

Good day, everyone! The third episode is now up!

For this episode, allow me to introduce to you one of the greats in contemporary classical music; let us all welcome...

GYORGY LIGETI!
György Sándor Ligeti (28 May 1923 – 12 June 2006) was a Hungarian-Austrian contemporary classical composer who has been described as "one of the most important avant-garde composers in the latter half of the twentieth century" and "one of the most innovative and influential among progressive figures of his time." He fully realized his passion for avant-garde music in 1956 after he was restricted by the authorities of Communist Hungary. Since his experimentation with electronic music in Cologne, his breakthrough came with orchestral works such as Atmosphères, for which he used a technique he later dubbed micropolyphony. After writing his "anti-anti-opera" Le Grand Macabre, Ligeti shifted away from chromaticism and towards polyrhythm for his later works.

He is best known by the public for the use of his music in film soundtracks. Although he did not directly compose any film scores, excerpts of pieces composed by him were taken and adapted for film use. Most famously this occurred in the films of Stanley Kubrick, particularly with the music from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which also contained pieces from other classical composers.

[source]

One of his pieces is chosen to be the secret ingredient for this episode, and now feel free to raise the dome!

. . . . . . .

THE ALPHABET!

"The Alphabet" is part of the compilation of six a capella compositions entitled "Nonsense Madrigals"; while the remaining pieces came from Victorian-era literary texts, this piece came from the English alphabet itself, juxtaposing serious emotional elements with humor. Participants are required to build a team of six Pokemon having the first letters of their names in its successive alphabetical order. Take note that it is not necessary to start the team on the letter A, and if it started on the latter parts of the alphabet is acceptable (i.e. XYZABC).

Participants have until
SATURDAY, MAY 19, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the undue delay caused; the overwhelming amount of teams last episode made it quite hard for the Panel of Judges to rate.

Finally, with some persistence from myself, it is with great joy to reveal all teams for Episode 2!

This team belongs to Jetstertsyko.

This team started with the secret ingredients in Heracross as a late-game sweeper, and Mega Sceptile as coverage for the team's overall weaknesses. Rhyperior was then added to provide Stealth Rock for the team, while Gliscor was added to clear hazards whenever possible. The team needed a pivot, hence the addition of Scizor in the team, with its offensive power coupled by Choice Band allowing it to dish out huge damage to the opposition. Finally, Sylveon was added to provide a Fairy typing to deal with Dragon types and to provide longevity for the team by virtue of Wish.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
From the looks of it, this team is extremely generic -- with the exception of Defensive Sylveon with Hidden Power Fire.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
The secret ingredient used is actually proficient at what the Pokemon in question do, but it lacks some form of direction for such secret ingredient to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4 / 10
Specially Defensive Gliscor poses a huge threat to this team to a point that no Pokemon would actually eventually break it, even with Rhyperior packing Ice Punch. One interesting suggestion would be replacing Ice Punch with Avalanche -- while Rhyperior takes damage, the doubled damage output would deem a one-hit-knock-out against such variants. Also, this team has to tread carefully against Breloom, specifically Poison Heal + Swords Dance variants, since it requires to sacrifice one of your Pokemon just to revenge kill it. Ultimately, this team struggles to the most generic of Stall teams; while the team contains Heracross that is definitely capable of breaking Stall, it definitely needs some help. Valiant effort, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 8.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS

This team belongs to Indigo Plateau.

The team focuses on exerting pressure against defensive builds, which then started with Work Up + Refresh Mega Pidgeot. Hydreigon was then added to bluff Choice Scarf and lure Fairies in to get decapitated by Z-Belch. Empoleon and Hippowdon served as the defensive backbone of the team as it provides the support the team needs such as setting hazards and clearing them while serving as checks against the most threatening Mega Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Manectric, and Slowbro. Celebi was then added to mitigate the Breloom weakness while at the same time setting up Nasty Plot to maintain its defensive utility. Finally, Terrakion was added to direct traffic against some of the fast Pokemon in the tier.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Work Up Mega Pidgeot is the selling point for this team's creativity, apart from a Celebi set that was compressed as a defensive Pokemon and a Nasty Plot attacker at the same time.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The secret ingredient used can, without a doubt, shine with their set-up moves; however, it's Celebi's bizarre approach that holds back to getting a considerably high grade in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
While the team can comfortably handle Mega Aerodactyl, this team needs some form of back-up against it, especially being the last Pokemon in the opponent's party; in this case, Toxic could be run on Hippowdon, and then Roar on Empoleon (since Shuca Berry could significantly weaken its purpose). Also, while running Toxic on Choice Scarf Terrakion is an acceptable choice, X-Scissor is the most bizarre one to a point that it deserves a more viable move. Finally, Offensive Calm Mind Latias with Gigavolt Havoc (Thunder) and Nidoking could pose a threat to this team, so the team has to tread carefully against such threats. Nevertheless, this is a great effort in building such an effective team.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: WIN

This team belongs to SuckyTheClown.

This team was built around the core containing Swords Dance Mega Sceptile, a late-game sweeper dealing with Pokemon that usually causes problems such as Sylveon, and Babiri Berry Togekiss, one of the biggest lures against Scizor. With a Scizor weakness looming, Volcanion was added to mitigate such weakness. Rhyperior provided Stealth Rock for the team while taking out some of the most formidable threats such as Stakataka. Latias was then added to serve a set-up attacker capable of dealing with Dragon types without losing its Special Attack prematurely by virtue of Draco Meteor. Finally, Scizor was added to trap most Latias variants and to add firepower with Volcanion's offensive capabilities.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Babiri Berry Togekiss is the selling point for this team's creativity, while Swords Dance Mega Sceptile not being used as much is icing on the cake.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
The secret ingredient used is proficient at what the core does; however, it could have taken advantage of Nasty Plot Togekiss (since Volcanion is there to scare Scizor out at the very least). In that case, Latias, a Pokemon compounding the team's massive Ice weakness, could have been replaced with a different Pokemon capable of clearing hazards off the field.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
Reflective of the Essence criterion, Kyurem would be one of the Pokemon worth addressing due to the team's massive Ice weakness (which brings this team to a fairly average score in this criterion as well). This team may want to consider running Tentacruel over Latias as it provides the support the secret ingredient in question needed, such as Toxic Spikes and Rapid Spin, most notably for Togekiss to run Nasty Plot (and possibly Z-Encore in this regard). A significant score would have been raised if it weren't for those changes; nevertheless, the team isn't that shabby to warrant a low score.

TOTAL SCORE: 11.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Borderlands LH.

The team was subject to numerous experiments until it ended up containing Regular Sceptile and Mega Altaria as the secret ingredient of choice. With those Pokemon having a potential weakness to most Special Attacks, Blissey was included to catch such attacks aimed at them. To further bolster the defensive capabilities of the team, Alolan Muk is added while adding a form of firepower to the team. Scizor was then added to serve as a set-up attacker while trapping some of the threatening Pokemon in the tier such as Latias. Finally, Chandelure was capped off as a revenge killer for the team.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Regular Sceptile is one of the selling points for this team's creativity, while Scizor with Pursuit and Swords Dance is icing on the cake.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
The secret ingredient is actually good at what the Pokemon in question do, but the structure in the team is definitely lacking to make the secret ingredient shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 3.5 / 10
Reflective of the Essence criterion, the team has yet to find a solid structure; apparently, the team looks like it's just slapped together to form a team. In that case, the team's lack of firepower means that any generic stall team will be extremely detrimental to the team's overall effectiveness. Find inspiration and direction.

TOTAL SCORE: 9 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. warzoid: LOSS
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to itsjustdrew.

This balanced team features Xatu as a way of keeping hazards off the field while outrunning Breloom and luring Scizor by virtue of Psychic and Heat Wave, respectively. To take advantage of Xatu's U-turn comes Mega Manectric, capable of softening Scizor's attacks and punishing Flying types. Celebi appreciates Flying types removed, and Nasty Plot provides the team a strong match-up against Empoleon and Hippowdon form a defensive backbone for the team and providing the support the team needs (clearing and setting hazards). Finally, Togekiss is added to bait in Nidoking and Kyurem only to get flinched most of the time with Air Slash.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Apart from Xatu, the team looks incredibly standard.

ESSENCE: 3.5 / 5
While the team is looking for some unique options like Xatu, it looks like it's too much to ask for, given the team has Togekiss and Celebi, both part of the secret ingredient, as consistent Breloom checks.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
Since it's a balanced team, the team's direction could have been improved either by ditching your defensive backbone to maintain momentum or by ditching VoltTurn as form of making momentum and instead bring a different kind of momentum to the table. Also, with the severe Ice weakness looming, Kyurem would pose a huge problem to your team (despite Togekiss being there), so better tread carefully there. Still a valiant effort in making this team, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 10.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS

This team belongs to Miraklez.

This team was built around Dragon Dance + Refresh Mega Altaria that serves as the win condition of the team. Celebi was then included to serve as a bulky pivot capable of absorbing hits while providing safe switch-ins to its offensive teammates with U-turn. Its other offensive teammates included Scizor, the revenge killer and the secondary win condition for the team, and Rockium Z Terrakion, the main wall breaker for the team with Earthquake to deal with Doublade for heavy damage. Empoleon with Shuca Berry allowed the team to lure most of the common Ground type Pokemon while clearing hazards off the field. Finally, Swampert provided Stealth Rock for the team while providing a stable Electric immunity to block Volt Switches.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
Offensive Empoleon with Shuca Berry is the selling point for this team’s creativity, while a flexible approach on the Celebi set is icing on the cake, but not enough to warrant a fair score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
While the offensive firepower of the team is nothing short of overwhelming, it seems that the spirit of the secret ingredient shifted to Altaria, Scizor, and Terrakion to a point that Celebi has its spotlight stolen, hence holding back to get a solid score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
As said earlier, the offensive firepower of the team is great enough to say that the team is effective enough. However, the biggest issue still lingers on Gliscor, where it has to solely rely on Empoleon to clear out, making it susceptible to the opponent finishing Empoleon off before it could pull a Defog. Speaking of Empoleon, due to its lack of leftovers, the team is susceptible to Calm Mind Latias with a potential Z-Move to a point that the only way of dealing with it is to use Scizor to revenge kill. Nevertheless, this showcases a strong effort on an offensive team like this; good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN
vs. xMarth: WIN

This team belongs to Rawbi.

This team featured Venomoth as part of the secret ingredient, as access to Quiver Dance, Sleep Powder, and Tinted Lens-boosted STAB moves made it a dangerous threat. Covering the latter part of the secret ingredient was Mega Altaria, capable of cleaning up after Venomoth has done its job. Hippowdon provided hazards for the team while serving as a check to some Pokemon equipped with Choice Scarf capable of outrunning Venomoth even at +1. To prevent Scizor and Empoleon from stopping Venomoth, Magneton was then added. Starmie offered Rapid Spin support while providing some firepower to the team by virtue of Life Orb, and Krookodile provided the Speed control to the team.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team looks extremely standard, with the exception of Venomoth that happened to be the stand-out underutilized Pokemon in the team.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
Mega Altaria and Venomoth encapsulates the essence of the secret ingredient extremely well. The team has enough support to let the core shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
There is one glaring flaw worth addressing in the team: the presence of two Ground types with a stark contrast in purpose. Hippowdon may be considered dead weight here, since the team is actually offensive in nature, and with Scarf Krookodile dealing with Mega Manectric easily, the team could consider running Gliscor over Hippowdon as it can potentially add momentum to your team with U-turn while maintaining Stealth Rock for your team. Despite such flaw, the secret ingredient that you used is definitely one of the cores worth using in the future; great effort on that.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. xMarth: LOSS

This team belongs to slated.

The idea behind this team was to take advantage of Heracross’s wall breaking ability to punch holes such that Nasty Plot Celebi and Choice Scarf Krookodile can pull off a sweep later on. Mega Aggron’s pure Steel typing provided a good switch-in against Fairy and Flying attacks; meanwhile, Rotom-Heat’s unusual typing provided resistances against Scizor while providing Defog support for the team and momentum to guarantee switch-ins for Heracross. Finally, Primarina employed a Rest + Sleep Talk set that serves as the team’s main switch-in against Fire-type Pokemon with the likes of Infernape and Chandelure.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Defensive Primarina is the selling point for the team’s creativity, while Rotom-Heat as a pivot being severely underutilized in the tier is icing on the cake.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
Both Heracross and Celebi are proficient at they do, and the support the teammates provide really gives a chance for these Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7.5 / 10
It seems that the team looks synergistic to a point that it needs some form of surprise by virtue of underutilized sets on the opponent’s part to beat this team. One suggestion worth noting to improve your match-up against Gliscor is that Mega Aggron can run Avalanche over Fire Punch since Rotom-Heat can fare well against most Scizor variants, and Avalanche makes Gliscor users think twice before they would even start attacking. This is one of the better teams for this episode, despite your loss to one of the Iron Chefs due to a surprise set on the Iron Chef’s part.

TOTAL SCORE: 15 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Iron Chef explodingdaisies.

This team started with an underutilized Mega Altaria set containing Dragon Dance and Cotton Guard, turning many physical attackers into set-up bait, with Facade punishing Pokemon packing a Status move. Heracross was then added to break any bulky Pokemon that would give Mega Altaria trouble. Fightinium Z Volcanion provided another form of firepower against some of the troublesome attackers, while Choice Scarf Krookodile provided Speed control for the team. Finally, Bronzong and Gliscor provided a defensive backbone for the team: the former providing Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a check to Nidoking, while the latter clearing hazards off the field while serving as a pivot, guaranteeing switch-ins to the attacking Pokemon.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Fightinium Z Volcanion is rather underutilized, but the greatest selling point for the team’s creativity to a point that no other participant is gutsy enough to do is to use Cotton Guard on Mega Altaria.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
Another straightforward choice of secret ingredient, the core is capable of breaking any build that would throw at. The firepower the team provided encapsulated the secret ingredient extremely well.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
The team has a good amount of firepower, but there are issues worth addressing: first being Substitute + Roost Kyurem variants that would be of great annoyance to the team since Bronzong serves as the sole check to a point that Bronzong would eventually lose due to Pressure, and another one being Hydreigon as the team lacks a prominent answer before Mega Altaria would start Mega Evolving. Otherwise, this is a solid team that showcases its offensive prowess, which is a strong effort on your part. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 14 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to Smallsmallrose.

This team focused on Mega Beedrill’s offensive capabilities which is then paired with Sneasel to improve match-up against Gliscor. Rotom-Mow provided Defog support for the duo and complements Mega Beedrill’s momentum with Volt Switch. Chandelure was then added to serve as the premier Scizor check for the team, while Scizor was included to deal with Mega Aerodactyl that Mega Beedrill struggles to break, while providing another Defog support. Finally, Rhyperior was then added to provide Stealth Rock for the team and to provide resistances against most Fire-, Flying-, and Electric-type Pokemon.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Sneasel is undoubtedly the stand-out Pokemon in the team for not having used before; sadly, the rest of the team looks standard.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
The concept based on the choice of secret ingredients is actually unique; however, while Mega Beedrill in itself can stand alone as a sweeper, if the team takes advantage of its offensive capabilities, it might need another sweeper in order for the secret ingredient to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
Defog on Scizor looks like dead weight to your team; while it does provide some form of momentum, the offensive pressure the team has is too much for Scizor to ask for. In that case, you could either replace Scizor’s role from a defensive Defogger to an offensive Swords Dance attacker, or you could replace Scizor with Double Dance Cobalion to improve your match-up against Steel-types, among others. The second option allows it to check Choice Scarf Hydreigon as one of the prominent threats worth addressing, since Sneasel can only revenge kill, but literally no one could take a strong hit from any of Hydreigon’s attacks. However, the team is rather interesting and using Sneasel is a breath of fresh air; therefore, it’s a strong effort on your part.

TOTAL SCORE: 12.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to SharpyTrain.

This team featured Dusclops, an unconventional Pokemon capable of taking hits from extremely powerful attackers, only to heal itself by virtue of Pain Split. It was then paired with Galvantula for putting up Sticky Web guaranteed thanks to Focus Sash, while Togekiss provided another form of Speed control for the team by virtue of Thunder Wave. Special Attackers in Starmie and Manectric were added to deal massive damage to the opposition; Sticky Web would aid these Pokemon in dealing with some of the most threatening Pokemon. Finally, Breloom served as a set-up sweeper with Technician-boosted Bullet Seed and Mach Punch.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While Dusclops and Galvantula in themselves look creative on paper, they are placed there for the sake of creativity, hence empty and not bearing any weight in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 2 / 5
While Breloom is capable of breaking teams apart, the other part of the secret ingredient in Togekiss could have been a Nasty Plot set to grant more firepower to the team while Sticky Web is in effect. What holds it back to getting a considerably high score in this criterion is that Dusclops, while part of the secret ingredient itself, looks like it doesn’t belong to a team.

EFFECTIVENESS: 3 / 10
Reflective of the Essence criterion, Dusclops could have been replaced with a different but offensive Spin Blocker (maybe Gengar) without sacrificing so much momentum. Another one is that the team doesn’t have other entry hazards other than Sticky Web; it is definitely mandatory to provide Stealth Rock for your team, hence you could consider running Rocky Helmet Krookodile with Stealth Rock and Taunt to prevent Defoggers off the field. Finally, two Electric types are somehow an odd choice in this regard; you could run a different Sticky Web user like Ribombee while running Hidden Power Grass on Mega Manectric if the team looks paranoid to defeat Swampert as soon as possible. Sadly, the current team is all over the place; the suggestions made are to improve the direction your team is having. Valiant effort, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 7.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Darksafadao: LOSS

This team belongs to GamingSynergy.

This team featured two Fairy Pokemon as part of the secret ingredient containing Dragon Dance Mega Altaria and Nasty Plot Togekiss, both mounting offensive pressure for the team. Compounding the team’s offensive capabilities was Choice Specs Necrozma, capable of luring Scizor with an unsuspecting Heat Wave. Rotom-Heat and Hippowdon serve as the backbone for the team: the former crippling Physical attackers, providing a hint of momentum, and clearing hazards whenever possible, and the latter setting up Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a blanket check against some of the most offensive threats. Finally, Alolan Muk capped off by providing a way of defeating Latias, one of the Pokemon Mega Altaria and Togekiss appreciate being gone.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Choice Specs Necrozma has never been seen since the expansion of its moveset upon introduction of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, hence the most stand-out among the underutilized Pokemon in the tier. Rotom-Heat has some usage, but not as used as well; these warrant a fairly average score in this criterion due to the rest of the team being generic.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
It is actually intriguing to run two Fairy Pokemon in Mega Altaria and Togekiss; both being weak to Scizor is something that needs addressing, hence the score being held back to getting a considerably high score in this criterion, but the support the team has by virtue of Necrozma and Rotom-Heat would already suffice.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
Upon further examination of the team, the defensive backbone has to tread carefully against any Water-type Pokemon since both of them are weak to that type, and the overall sluggishness of the team is apparent. Since the team has enough answers against Scizor, a Scizor of your own works here since it can serve as a solid form of Speed control with Bullet Punch while you can elect to run Pursuit to deal with Latias reliably well. Valiant effort in building the team, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 11.5 / 20

Battle Replays:
vs. Sage of the 6: LOSS
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN

This team belongs to DraconicLepus.

This team was built around the old-generation classic in Poison Heal Breloom with Substitute and Focus Punch. Mega Beedrill was then added to trap unsuspecting threats such as Starmie and Latias by virtue of Pursuit. A defensive backbone featuring Gliscor and Klefki were then added for their utility: the former setting up Stealth Rock while absorbing most physical hits with ease, the latter checking most Dark- and Dragon-type Pokemon while setting up Spikes, both of which are integral for the team’s success. Starmie provided the Rapid Spin support for the team while providing a firepower boost by virtue of its Z-Crystal. Finally, Choice Scarf Hydreigon capped off as a way of revenge killing Pokemon and as a way of gaining more momentum with Mega Beedrill around.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
While the team looked generic at first glance, the old generation classic from Breloom gives some form of nostalgia while at the same time being effective, garnering a fairly average score in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
Employing hazard stack along with the secret ingredient is a smart choice, making the team incredibly tough to keep up the offensive pressure is present.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
The choice of Pokemon in the secret ingredient is great, but sadly, there is no end goal in a form of a sweeper (Mega Beedrill is not enough, sadly) to rack up wins. Also, with Breloom not having a Grass move, while it can scare some Bulky Waters out of the way, if Breloom reveals that it doesn’t have a Grass-type move, it will eventually succumb to such Pokemon such as Swampert to a point that giving Breloom Swords Dance would give a nifty boost in effectiveness. Nevertheless, the concept of Spike stacking is as dangerous as ever, and it is taken advantage of quite well. Good job!

This team belongs to Nightingales.

This team featured the secret ingredient in Dragon Dance Mega Altaria, the win condition for the team after taking advantage of the free turns generated by Fighting types, and Nasty Plot Celebi, capable of breaking down most of the bulky Pokemon in the tier. Bolstering the team’s offensive capabilities came Choice Band Krookodile while compressing it as a Stealth Rock setter for the team. Crobat was then added to serve as a blanket check to Fighting types while clearing hazards off the field. Finally, two set-up attackers were included by virtue of Suicune and Lucario: the former taking advantage of its natural bulk while using Calm Mind while wasting opponents’ PP by virtue of Pressure, Substitute and Protect, and the latter taking advantage of its high Special Attack to greater heights with Nasty Plot and aiding in breaking down defensive archetypes.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
The team looked generic with Mega Altaria replacing one of the past Pokemon, and coming from one of your past teams isn’t helping any further in this criterion.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
While the secret ingredient is proficient at what the core does, what holds back to getting a perfect score in this criterion is somehow reflective to the Creativity criterion wherein the team was recycled with Mega Altaria replacing one of the past Pokemon just to fulfill the criteria (not to discredit the team’s capabilities).

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
While the team actually came from the past generation and it is effective in that generation, the newfound threats in this generation would be quite tricky for this team to handle. For example, the team’s match-up against Latias, Mega Pidgeot, and Mega Manectric are extremely apparent because Krookodile does not have Choice Scarf when that item is more needed than ever to keep up with those threats. Speaking of Mega Pidgeot, Agility Moltres would be a huge pain to handle due to the lack of Flying resists. Suicune can handle it fine, but with prior damage and less Calm Minds up, it could cause a lot of problems to that team. It is a new generation already, and this team needs a lot of tinkering to catch up with the newfound threats.

This team belongs to Juuno.

This team was built around Celebi and Mega Altaria, both having set-up moves in Nasty Plot and Dragon Dance respectively to break what they need to break. Chandelure was then added to serve as a check to Scizor that both Celebi and Mega Altaria appreciate being gone, while providing a good match-up against Stall by virtue of Calm Mind. Swampert was then added to provide Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a counter to Gliscor by virtue of Ice Beam. Empoleon was then added mainly to clear hazards off the field. Finally, Hydreigon capped off as a way of defeating speedy Pokemon in the tier while providing a good set of resistances for the team.

CREATIVITY: 2 / 5
The team looks extremely standard with the exception of a different approach on a Dragon Dance Altaria.

ESSENCE: 4.5 / 5
While the secret ingredient is proficient at what the core does, what holds back to getting a perfect score in this criterion is the lack of immediate firepower for such Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6 / 10
From the looks of it, the team lacks a prompt Hydreigon (and Latias) answer before Altaria would Mega Evolve, especially when Empoleon lacks Leftovers. If that’s the case, you could run Specs Chandelure over the current Substitute + Calm Mind set since Celebi is already there breaking defensive archetypes fairly well. Other than that, the team looks solid, but with a bit of tinkering, the team would go to greater heights. Good job.

The winner of this episode, with a cumulative weighted average of 58.08%, goes to...

Chef Indigo Plateau!

Despite Chef Miraklez's win against two Iron Chefs and Chef slated's marginally high scores from the Panel of Judges, Chef Indigo Plateau eventually emerged as the victor of this episode as he edges out in being the best-tasting dish as attested by the Underused Community, hence his team being etched in the Hall of Fame. Here's the spreadsheet on how I come up with all the computations.

The third episode of Iron Chef is about to close soon, so participants must finish their Iron Chef battles before I would finish up everything!

TIME IS UP!
Apologies for any undue delays for this phase due to the late completion of Episode 2 thanks to the overwhelming amount of teams. Also, I would like to apologize to SharpyTrain and SilvioGuacamole for not managing to issue a challenge against any of the Iron Chefs (perhaps you have issued them at the time they were actually away, among other possible reasons) within the extended timeframe, hence their teams not being shown here.

With that ironed out, voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

This defensive team started with Quagsire serving as a blanket check to set-up attackers, including Cobalion and Scizor, while avoiding double switches by virtue of Infestation. It was then coupled with Calm Mind Raikou with Toxic to deal with Hippowdon and Swampert. Mega Steelix and Togekiss provided the support needed for the team: the former to set up Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a check against Scizor by virtue of Fire Fang, and the latter to clear hazards off the field and providing an immunity against Ground attacks. Umbreon was then added to trap Gengar and Chandelure with Pursuit while absorbing hits from most Special Attackers, and Vileplume capped off as a cleric and an answer against Breloom and Serperior.

This team featured Pidgeot that serve as a pivot for the team. Qwilfish and Swampert provided the entry hazard support the team needs, while Umbreon completed the defensive backbone of the team by being a reliable switch-in against most Special attackers. Rotom-Mow was then added as a form of Speed control to the team, while Togekiss capped off to deal with defensive archetypes.

This team was built around Qwilfish, which then eventually ended up employing Rain Dance as its strategy of choice. With Qwilfish donning Swords Dance, Raikou is then added due to its access to Calm Mind and an accuracy-raised Thunder thanks to Rain. More Pokemon are taking advantage of Rain, most especially Seismitoad and Tornadus: the former being a Swift Swim user, and the latter setting up Prankster-boosted Rain Dance while using Hurricanes to its advantage. Uxie was then added to provide Stealth Rock for the team, to keep Rain going when it stops, and to provide a form of momentum for the team. Finally, Pawniard capped off due to the lack of Steel-type in the team while providing a form of Speed control to the team by virtue of Thunder Wave and some form of utility by virtue of Knock Off and Pursuit.

This Trick Room team has three setters: the first one being a dedicated lead in Uxie, the other one being a sole Dark resist in Whimsicott, and finally being part of an offensive powerhouse in Stakataka. To take advantage of the turns under Trick Room came Rhyperior with Swords Dance to bulldoze anyone in its path, Vikavolt with an Electrium Z to punish bulky Waters while gaining some form of momentum, and Tsareena equipped with Choice Band to deal massive damage with its newfound weapon in Power Whip.

This team featured a recognized threat in the metagame today in Breloom, coupled with Celebi to deal with opposing Breloom. Choice Scarf Durant was then added to serve as Speed control for the team while packing a huge punch by virtue of Hustle. Empoleon served as a status spreader for the team (either by Toxic or by Scald) which would help the offensive Pokemon, while Florges provided longevity and hazard clearing services. Finally, Gliscor was added to provide Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a pivot with U-turn.

This hyper offensive team featured Choice Specs Yanmega and Choice Band Zygarde-10% serving as potent wall breakers for the team. Azelf provided the hazards for the team on the get-go, while Blastoise was added to clear hazards off the field without sacrificing power. Cobalion was then added to serve as the late-game sweeper, taking care of bulky Pokemon that give Yanmega trouble by virtue of Rock Polish and Swords Dance, and Decidueye finally capped off as a Breloom check and another stall breaker by virtue of Swords Dance.

The team was built around three set-up attackers in the form of Dragon Dance Mega Altaria, Swords Dance Poison Heal Breloom, and Dragon Dance Feraligatr. Defensive Doublade was then added to spread status while at the same time serving as a check to most Fighting types, most notably Breloom. Espeon was then added to provide longevity to the team while bouncing hazards off the field. Finally, Chandelure capped off to serve as a revenge killer for the team, most notably even with Substitute up thanks to Infiltrator.

. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2
ESSENCE: Team 3, Team 4
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 5, Team 6
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 4 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 5 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 6 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!

THURSDAY, MAY 24, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

ALLEZ, CUISINE!

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 6. These seem the most standard.
ESSENCE: Team 3, Team 4. These teams are rain and full tr, pretty creative and crazy.
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 1, Team 7. Also standard. Some big threats here. Good synergy.

CREATIVITY: Team 3. Rain with sweeper Qwilfish and Seismitoad and Pawniard in MY UU? That takes the cake for sure.
ESSENCE: Team 7. A B C D E F. Doesn't get much more alphabetical than that.
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 4. Trick Room can be a devastating threat to unprepared teams.

Creativity: Team 1, and team 3. Team 1 uses incredibly crafty sets like infestation Quagsire, Pursuit Umbreon, Nasty Plot AND Defog Togekiss, and also uses a couple underutilized mons like Raikou and Mega Steelix to 1-up the meta while having an odd, stall-like approach to its win condition. Team 3 uses an incredibly underutilized playstyle in rain, with underutilized options such as Uxie, Raikou, Tornadus, and Pawniard. Pawniard especially flexing the creativity points with an incredibly unique spread and thunder wave.
Essence: Team 1 and team 3 once again. These are the teams with the most clear direction, and they seem to have been made with some of the current meta in mind. With team 1 having solid checks to the top threats in its defensive approach. Its defensive backbone is really solid and is prepped for most situations, I can't see a mon that really threatens this team glaringly so. Team 3 doesn't have as much of a defensive backbone, but it more than checks what it needs to check in the current meta in the mons it was alotted, while having a solid offensive core with a high paced weather based playstyle, and offensive answers to an incredibly high portion of the current meta. Each ingredient in BOTH of these teams are used to their fullest, with every mon on each squad being quite justifiable, and really contribute to the essence category.
Effectiveness: Team 1, and team 7. Team 1 really accels with its defensive backbone, I'm still shuffling through the ranks of the VR struggling to find a mon that outright beats this at team preview, it uses its team members in an exceptionally delicious manner to push back against a number of common meta trends. Team 7 is another very well rounded team, having a good number of answers to some currently common trends and using its team slots well enough to form a decent defensive backbone while not being downright passive, and having some options for a number of matchups. While I wouldn't say it outright destroys anything, it doesn't have too many bad matchups either. Making it a pretty good all-around team.
