PROLOGUE
Long ago, a man's fantasy became a reality in a form never seen before: Kitchen Coliseum, a giant arena where chefs can cook up new original Pokemon teams and see them tested. The motivation for spending his fortune to create Kitchen Coliseum was to encounter new original teams which could be called true artistic creations.

To realize his dream, he secretly started choosing the top chefs of various styles of battling, and he named his men the Iron Chefs. These Iron Chefs possess invincible culinary skills, and they are:

Kitchen Coliseum is the arena where Iron Chefs await the challenges of master chefs from around the world. Challengers must build around the theme ingredient of the round. Using all their senses, skill and creativity, they are to prepare artistic teams never tasted before.

Every battle, reputations are on the line in Kitchen Coliseum, where master chefs pit their artistic creations against each other. What inspiration does this round's challenger bring? And how will the Iron Chef fight back?

The heat will be on!

INTRODUCTION
Hello, everyone! Chairman Euphonos here, and welcome to the fourth installment of Iron Chef Smogon in the Underused Subforum! This project allows the contestants to showcase their creative team building skills and to put their masterful creations to the test against some of the UU's top battlers and team builders. Each round I will pick a theme to build around, and contestants will do their best to come up with an original, effective team around that theme.

There is a huge change of mechanics this season, and the ones marked in blue reflects such change from the previous season. Please take time to read everything.
. . . . . . .

MECHANICS

There are four phases every episode: the first phase being Team Building which will last for three days, the second phase being Challenging Iron Chefs which will last for two days; the third phase being Judging and Voting, which will last for (less than) two days; the final phase being the Awarding of Winners that will devote a tiny portion of the current round in preparation for the next round.

PHASE 1: TEAM BUILDING
  • At the beginning of each round, a secret ingredient will be revealed. Contestants have until a certain time (posted in the secret ingredients post) to build around this secret ingredient, which may be a core, a team concept, or a theme. The team must be submitted to the Chairman through the Smogon Forums PM.
    • The Chairman will notify through the reply whether the team has been approved or there are missing elements that need adding.
    • Any article submitted elsewhere other than the Smogon Forums PM will not be accepted.
  • Teams should be submitted in a standardized format. It should include the importable of your team followed by a brief description of how the team works.
  • Within this period, no Iron Chef battle should be taking place.
  • Once the team has been submitted, participants are not allowed to withdraw.

Here is a sample team format that you must submit in order to be eligible for challenging the Iron Chefs:

Cloyster @ Focus Sash
Ability: Skill Link
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Shell Smash
- Icicle Spear
- Rock Blast
- Explosion

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 128 HP / 252 SpA / 128 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Discharge
- Dragon Pulse
- Heal Bell

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 240 HP / 216 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Encore
- Stun Spore
- Moonblast
- U-turn

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Earthquake
- Hypnosis

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Shadow Ball
- Energy Ball
- Memento

Linoone @ Salac Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Extreme Speed
- Shadow Claw
- Seed Bomb

Although I can't go on full kamikaze, this team brings overwhelming force in the beginning through the help of leading Cloyster early in the game (most of the time; some Steel-types are such a big bitch to handle with; might as well use Hydro Pump over Rock Blast on Cloyster). There are two Pokemon that will serve as momentum grabbers in the form of Mega Ampharos (with Volt Switch) and Whimsicott (with U-turn), and they coincidentally serve as the paralyzers of the team given Discharge and Stun Spore, respectively. Bronzong serves as the sole Hazard setter of the team, as Stealth Rock is more than enough to get damage upon entry (and Hypnosis is confirmed good). Chandelure is the greatest Special Attacker in the team; equipping it with Choice Specs makes it all the more deadly. To put it into perspective, Chandelure's Choice Specs-boosted Overheat overwhelms those even who resist it. It is also one of my reasons for building a team with because of Memento, granting a set-up sweeper a golden opportunity to set up, and that set-up sweeper I choose is no other than Linoone. Linoone is the only non-Uber Pokemon that has STAB on Extreme Speed, and Belly Drum is the only move to boost its not-so-impressive Attack to stellar levels. When Steel-types are eliminated through Chandelure's massive attacks, Linoone is ready to sweep with it.

There are some issues with this team, especially the lack of a Spinner. Of course, it is a "bulky" offense team of sorts, but it has issues with Entry Hazards alone, most especially Toxic Spikes, and that alone would shorten Linoone's glorious sweep.
Note that this is not an RMT article, so don't feel like you need to devote several lines of description for each Pokemon, but it is your responsibility to ensure that judges understand how your team functions. However, the Chairman is strictly enforcing the rule of having a brief description of the team in order to make the judging procedure a lot easier. As such, here are the guide questions for a meaningful description of your team (contestants may not opt to follow them):
  • What comes to your mind when the secret ingredient is revealed?
  • What is your thought process upon building your team?
  • Were there any prevalent issues upon building your team? How do you deal with those issues?
The Chairman will notify you whether the submission is eligible for challenging Iron Chefs; if not, you must comply to the changes the Chairman has given - non-compliance within the allotted time will forfeit your entry to the second phase.

IMPORTANT: Slashing items, moves, and other elements is not allowed. Whatever you sent to the Chairman must be the team you will be using in challenging the Iron Chefs.

PHASE 2: CHALLENGING THE IRON CHEFS
  • Only the participants who have their teams approved are eligible to face any of the Iron Chefs available.
    • The Iron Chefs are NOT required to use the theme ingredient. Instead, they will push your team to its breaking point.
    • The Iron Chefs know the secret ingredient as well; better give them the surprise of their lives!
  • Battles must be played using the team that was sent to the Chairman. Any discrepancies between teams may result in disqualification.
  • No win/loss post should be posted in this thread. Only the Iron Chefs will privately disseminate the battle replays for anonymity purposes.
  • Contestants may issue a challenge to more than one Iron Chefs, but they may do so only once.

PHASE 3: JUDGING AND VOTING
  • Once all battles are completed, the Chairman will reveal all of the teams without revealing the contestant's name and their corresponding battle replays.
  • Regardless of the outcome of the Iron Chef match(es), all teams sent to the Chairman are subject to evaluations and criticisms from the most esteemed Panel of Judges, and to voting from Iron Chefs, co-participants and third parties.
    • If contestants have sent the dish to the Chairman but didn't manage to issue a challenge on any of the Iron Chefs, contestants should go through the Chairman for a mandatory contingent Iron Chef battle, and regardless of the result of that match, they must face the consequence of getting a zero weighted average in the Iron Chef Battles aspect.
      • If, in any case, the contestant did not show up within the first twenty-four hours of the judging phase, the contestant's team will not be presented, and the contestant is barred from participating in one succeeding episode.
    • Conversely, if contestants completed battles with the Iron Chefs but didn't manage to send the dish (note: with brief descriptions required; guide questions found above) to the Chairman, contestants should send the dish within the first twenty-four hours of the judging phase.
      • If, in any case, the contestant did not submit the dish within the allotted time, the contestant's team will not be presented, and the contestant is barred from participating in one succeeding episode.
CRITERIA FOR SCORING
A contestant's dish will be tabulated according to the following criteria:
  • JUDGE EVALUATIONS (60%) - This is based on the scores given by the panel of judges.
The Panel of Judges will use the system from the previous installments in evaluating contestants' dishes. The system is based on three separate categories in Creativity, Essence/Elevation, and Effectiveness.

CREATIVITY (0-5 POINTS): Is your finished dish a delight never before tasted by our judges, or is it the same standard fare? Your goal is not to merely reheat an existing team, but to break boundaries and challenge standards. A team that was copied from an RMT or tournament with a few minor changes should score poorly here, while a team full of new ideas could bring home as many as five points.

ESSENCE / ELEVATION (0-5 POINTS): How well does your team use this round's theme? Is it merely tacked on to satisfy the tournament's requirements, or is it a fundamental part of how the team works? A team that barely uses the round's theme could end up with nothing here, while a team that not only uses the theme but redefines might win it all.

EFFECTIVENESS (0-10 POINTS): And now we're down to the real meat of the dish. How good is the team? This category is worth twice as much as the other two, because in the end, it doesn't matter how original your dish is - if it doesn't taste good, then people won't eat it. A team that will struggle to succeed in the current metagame, even against mediocre teams, might receive a zero here. On the other hand, show the judges how great your team is, and you could take home a full ten points.
The Panel of Judges will determine the final scores through the conformity method where they either agree or disagree with the initial rates until a certain point is given.

  • COMMUNITY VOTING (30%) - The Underused Community, including the Iron Chefs, are asked to pick two of the best teams in terms of the three aforementioned categories.
The top pick for each category will receive 5 points; the second top pick will receive 3 points; the rest of the dishes will receive 1 point each. The final score for the community voting will be tabulated according to the following categories:
  • CREATIVITY - 25%
  • ESSENCE / ELEVATION - 25%
  • EFFECTIVENESS - 50%
The voting template will be given once Phase 2 is over.

  • BATTLE RECORDS (10%) - Wins and losses recorded by the contestants during a certain round will be tabulated in this criterion.

PHASE 4: AWARDING OF WINNERS
  • At the end of the round, all winners, along with their dishes, will be entered into our fabled Hall of Fame. These hallowed halls will show the best of the best, and be preserved for future rounds.
    • Aside from awarding the OVERALL WINNER of each round, there will three special awards that will be placed in the Hall of Fame as well. They are as follows:
      • THE MOST ORIGINAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Creativity category. People who have voted for that participant have witnessed how he/she made use of unorthodox selections that made significant work to the team.
      • THE MOST ESSENTIAL DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Essence / Elevation category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how he/she strongly incorporated secret ingredients to the strength of the rest of the team.
      • THE BEST-TASTING DISH: This award is given to the participant with the most number of votes in the Effectiveness category. People who have voted for that participant have seen how he/she plays it to his/her strengths, and how he/she overcomes any disadvantages in match-ups.
  • A participant who has garnered the highest average score and who has played at least three of the six cycles (1-6 and 7-12) will be given an offer from the Chairman himself. This offer will depend on the situation of the current Staff (Iron Chef / Panel of Judges).

ON IRON CHEFS (mechanics conceptualized special thanks to former Iron Chef Cynde)
  • For this season, one of the Iron Chefs will step up as one of the challengers for every episode.
  • The selected Iron Chef for that episode is required to submit a team that will satisfy the requirement of the secret ingredient, thus the team will also be subjected to evaluations and criticisms.

TODAY'S SECRET INGREDIENT
EPISODE 8

ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS!

We are all familiar with cores with rock-paper-scissors relationships, such as Fire-Water-Grass, Steel-Dragon-Fairy, and Fighting-Psychic-Dark. What if these rock-paper-scissors relationships has to be incorporated in the whole team? As such, participants are required to build a team of six featuring either ONE of the three featured types. Pokemon with dual typing is acceptable, as long as it fulfills the target type.

Take this as an example.

Participants have until
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4, 11:59 PM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

PANEL OF JUDGES
<to be updated with the newly-appointed ones soon!>

And last, but not the least, this judge is one of the most accomplished players and one of the most respected contributors in the UnderUsed community, and he is best known for his team building eccentricities to catch opponents off guard and to boggle the minds of the spectators. This judge is no other than the Iron Chef Underused Chairman himself, Euphonos!

Chairman and Judge Euphonos

While being part of the Smogon community since 2010, Euphonos made his first appearance in the Underused community in early 2015 where he started participating in XY UU's Research Week. Since then, he became one of the active participants in the first season of UU Iron Chef hosted by Chairman Hogg. Euphonos's stellar performance in the project made him become one of the most seasoned Iron Chefs; his dedication to the project made him become the Chairman in the latter three seasons of UU Iron Chef, and became the inaugural chairman of UU Iron Chef Live, in which from there he became one of the most respected contributors to the Underused Community. He became one of the winners in the third season of Underused Premier League under the leadership of Kink, with his most memorable match being the match against BOUFF whom he defeated in a dominating fashion in Week 6. He also made successful RMT articles for ORAS UU teams, one featuring Marill, another being his longest standing UU team featuring Shedinja, and a final team featuring Fletchinder before the start of the Sun/Moon era.

Chairman Euphonos is a fan of Gordon Ramsay and his involvement in most cooking shows such as Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef. An Economics graduate at first, he eventually got more passionate to choral music to a point that he is planning on pursuing a Music Degree in the future.

OVERALL WINNERS

EPISODE 1: FROZEN (won by PinkDragonTamer)
Teams must feature at least one pure Ice-type Pokemon, excluding its pre-evolutions.
This team features two threatening Pokemon with their Priority moves in the form of Breloom and Scizor. Both of them have Swords Dance to boost their damage output and to pick off weakened targets. To put those plans to fruition comes the secret ingredient in Mega Glalie which is designed to scare common Pokemon such as Gliscor to set up Spikes, and is designed to bluff Freeze-Dry and consequently exert pressure on the likes of Empoleon and Tentacruel with Earthquake -- something its teammates Scizor and Breloom can benefit from. Togekiss is added in the team to deal with Steel-types both Scizor and Glalie appreciate being removed from play, while vastly improving its match-up against defensively-oriented archetypes. Swampert is then added to provide a key immunity against Electric attacks, mainly against Mega Manectric, and to provide an additional hazard in the form of Stealth Rock. Hydreigon is finally added to take care of Speed-boosting Pokemon whilst serving as a solid Chandelure check and an emergency Defogger. This team garners the Most Essential and the Best-Tasting Dish among all the participants, as attested by the UU Community.

vs. Sage of the 6: WIN
vs. explodingdaisies: WIN

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Apart from Mega Glalie with Spikes and Fightinium Z Togekiss, the team is bog standard at best.
.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
This team features the secret ingredient as if it's integral to the success of the whole team. With most of its teammates putting a whole lot of pressure against some of the Defoggers apart from Mega Glalie itself, this team could be seeing a bright future here.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7 / 10
The execution of the team is pretty much straightforward and the wins against two of the Iron Chefs reflect that. There might be some issues against some of the most common Scizor sets since Swampert gets chipped easily, but what makes the team a lot better than the rest is that the direction of the team is clear enough to warrant a high score in this criterion.

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

EPISODE 2: THE JUNGLE BOOK (won by Indigo Plateau)
Teams must feature at least two Pokemon residing in the Forest.
The team focuses on exerting pressure against defensive builds, which then started with Work Up + Refresh Mega Pidgeot. Hydreigon was then added to bluff Choice Scarf and lure Fairies in to get decapitated by Z-Belch. Empoleon and Hippowdon served as the defensive backbone of the team as it provides the support the team needs such as setting hazards and clearing them while serving as checks against the most threatening Mega Pokemon such as Aerodactyl, Manectric, and Slowbro. Celebi was then added to mitigate the Breloom weakness while at the same time setting up Nasty Plot to maintain its defensive utility. Finally, Terrakion was added to direct traffic against some of the fast Pokemon in the tier. The team won the hearts of the Underused Community by garnering the Best-Tasting Dish award among all 15 participants.

vs. Sage of the 6: WIN

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Work Up Mega Pidgeot is the selling point for this team's creativity, apart from a Celebi set that was compressed as a defensive Pokemon and a Nasty Plot attacker at the same time.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The secret ingredient used can, without a doubt, shine with their set-up moves; however, it's Celebi's bizarre approach that holds back to getting a considerably high grade in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
While the team can comfortably handle Mega Aerodactyl, this team needs some form of back-up against it, especially being the last Pokemon in the opponent's party; in this case, Toxic could be run on Hippowdon, and then Roar on Empoleon (since Shuca Berry could significantly weaken its purpose). Also, while running Toxic on Choice Scarf Terrakion is an acceptable choice, X-Scissor is the most bizarre one to a point that it deserves a more viable move. Finally, Offensive Calm Mind Latias with Gigavolt Havoc (Thunder) and Nidoking could pose a threat to this team, so the team has to tread carefully against such threats. Nevertheless, this is a great effort in building such an effective team.

TOTAL SCORE: 13 / 20

EPISODE 3: THE ALPHABET (won by Iron Chef warzoid)
Teams must feature Pokemon whose first letters of their names should be in a successive alphabetical order (not necessarily starting with A).
This defensive team started with Quagsire serving as a blanket check to set-up attackers, including Cobalion and Scizor, while avoiding double switches by virtue of Infestation. It was then coupled with Calm Mind Raikou with Toxic to deal with Hippowdon and Swampert. Mega Steelix and Togekiss provided the support needed for the team: the former to set up Stealth Rock for the team while serving as a check against Scizor by virtue of Fire Fang, and the latter to clear hazards off the field and providing an immunity against Ground attacks. Umbreon was then added to trap Gengar and Chandelure with Pursuit while absorbing hits from most Special Attackers, and Vileplume capped off as a cleric and an answer against Breloom and Serperior. The team won the hearts of the Underused Community and the Panel of Judges by being the Most Essential and the Best-Tasting Dish among 7 participants.

vs. explodingdaisies: WIN

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
While some team members look standard, there are a lot of nifty tech moves at its disposal, such as Toxic on Raikou and Fire Fang on Steelix. The greatest selling points that garnered a fairly high grade in this criterion is the use of Pursuit Umbreon and Haze Quagsire, which aren't seen as much.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
This is an intriguing take on a Stall team that has surprisingly good synergy between the team members. The direction is extremely clear at how the team works, and no Pokemon is worth dropping given the restriction, hence a great score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 7.5 / 10
This team acknowledges a weakness to Primarina, due to the lack of Water resists, and Fairy-type Pokemon with Fire moves such as Mega Altaria with Fire Blast. While Blissey could have been the biggest replacement to Umbreon, the team is quite solid enough to garner a considerably high score in this criterion, provided no restrictions given, and you have taken advantage of all the Pokemon you have used extremely well. Solid effort.

TOTAL SCORE: 16 / 20

EPISODE 4: HAPPY FEET (won by Jetstertsyko)
Teams must feature at least two Pokemon with a tailed bipedal ( ) body style and at least one Pokemon with a tailless bipedal () body style.
This team featured two tailed bipeds in the form of Mega Slowbro and Hydreigon: the former taking a slew of hits while still dealing a good amount of damage to the opposition, while the latter taking advantage of its Speed with Choice Scarf to revenge kill some of the speedy Pokemon in the tier, and a tailless biped in a form of Roserade, capable of breaking bulky Waters and Fairies by virtue of its STAB moves while disrupting other defensive Pokemon with Sleep Powder. Terrakion served as a support to Mega Slowbro to break down troublesome Pokemon while setting up Stealth Rock for the team. Rotom-Heat serve as a formidable check to Grass types while clearing hazards off the field. Scizor finally capped off as a set-up attacker and pivot at the same time.

vs. Darksafadao: WIN
vs. warzoid: LOSS

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
The team and its respective sets look generic at first glance, but with Roserade being one of the uncommon anti-metagame options picking up a bit of steam and with Rotom-Heat and Stealth Rock Terrakion on the side, this warrants a fairly average score in the category.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
The core containing Slowbro + Hydreigon + Roserade looks promising, but from the looks of it, Scizor being the win condition of the team is not enough to pick up those wins to a fact that it could have taken advantage of using Calm Mind on Slowbro with that EV spread chosen.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
The team is greatly synergistic on paper to a point that it takes a surprise set to catch you and this team off guard. However, the team's match-up against stall is not exactly great due to the lack of a back-up win condition (hence the suggestion on Calm Mind on Mega Slowbro in this regard). Also, the lack of a Fairy type means that Dragon-type Pokemon would seriously overwhelm this team, and this team has to tread carefully against Hydreigon since switching Scizor in is not exactly safe due to Fire Blast. Nonetheless, this is the best team done by you so far in this episode, which is a strong effort on your part. Good job!

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

Good day, everyone! The first episode is now up!

For the opening episode, allow me to introduce to you one of the defining musicians in the modern generation; let us all welcome...

MADONNA!
Madonna Louise Ciccone is an American singer-songwriter who was referred to most as the "Queen of Pop" for "pushing the boundaries of lyrical content in mainstream popular music as well as visual imagery in music videos and on stage". Having sold more than 300 million records worldwide, she is recognized as the best-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) listed her as the second highest-certified female artist in the U.S., with 64.5 million album units. According to Billboard, Madonna is the most successful solo act on its Hot 100 singles chart and second overall behind the Beatles. She is also the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, earning U.S. $1.4 billion from her concert tickets. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, Madonna topped VH1's countdown of 100 Greatest Women in Music. Additionally, Rolling Stone listed her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time.

[source]

One of her songs is chosen to be the secret ingredient for this episode, and now feel free to raise the dome!

. . . . . . .

FROZEN!

"If I could melt your heart, we'd never be apart."
Frozen, a mid-tempo electronica ballad, talks about a cold and emotionless human being. From the title of the song itself, participants are required to build a team featuring at least one pure Ice-type Pokemon, excluding its pre-evolutions. While no Pokemon mentioned above are placed in UU, who among the participants will make good use of these Frozen Pokemon?

Participants have until
THURSDAY, MAY 3, 9 AM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.

Allez, cuisine!

TIME IS UP!
Apologies for any undue delays due to conflicting schedules; therefore, I promised to make some adjustments starting the next episode. Also, I would like to apologize to participant SharpyTrain who, while successfully challenged xMarth in a match that doesn't count since he is one of the challengers for the episode, didn't manage to challenge other Iron Chefs within the extended timeframe, hence his team not being shown here.

With that ironed out, voting and judging phase for this episode is now underway! Presenting to you the dishes of the participants!

This team uses Mega Glalie to exert pressure especially on most Water types by virtue of Freeze-Dry, and with most hazard clearing Pokemon being mostly coming from Water types, Spikes is used to complement its capabilities, which Choice Specs Kyurem also appreciates. Tentacruel serves as an obligatory teammate for both Mega Glalie and Kyurem; it serves as a hazard clearer, it takes advantage of the Spike Stacking theme by virtue of Toxic Spikes, and it acts as a Scizor check. Next, Doublade, while added to serve as a check to some of the most threatening Pokemon like Latias, Cobalion, and Terrakion, acts as a proper counter to Breloom as well thanks to Sleep Talk. Rhyperior is then added to deal with the likes of Moltres, Mega Pidgeot, and Mega Manectric while providing another hazard integral to the team's success. Finally, Sylveon is added to bring longevity to its other team members by virtue of Wish support.

This Aurora Veil Offense team features Regice as one of the Aurora Veil setters apart from the rather standard but dedicated Alolan Sandslash, which then pairs with two of the potent Belly Drum Pokemon in Linoone and Slurpuff. Aurorus starts the pace with Hail and Stealth Rock, and Mega Abomasnow regains the Hail whenever Aurora Veil wears off. With four out of six Pokemon in the team having an Ice typing, Fire-types and Fighting-types could spell trouble for the team, though Fire-types can somehow be handled by Aurorus's Ancient Power and Fighting-types can be handled by Slurpuff.

This team starts with either Dusk Lycanroc setting up Stealth Rock or Vanilluxe setting up Hail. Alolan Sandslash is then added to provide Aurora Veil for the rest of the bulky set-up attackers in Nasty Plot Celebi, Dragon Dance Altaria, and Swords Dance Gliscor. The team is designed to improve its match-up against offensive teams, but leaves a lot to be desired against defensive builds.

This team takes advantage of Substitute Regice to scare away unsuspecting Pokemon, with its HP EVs maximized to guarantee survival from Hydreigon's Fire Blasts. It is then paired with Will-O-Wisp + Hex Gengar to deal massive damage to the opposition while supporting Regice to take Physical hits well. For Hex Gengar to put work as well, Gliscor is then added with Toxic to annoy most defensively-oriented Pokemon and to provide Stealth Rock for the team. Sylveon compounds Gliscor's defensive capabilities while providing Wish Support for the team especially with Regice having Rest as its back-up recovery move. While Hydreigon is added to the team to act as a revenge killer to some of the key threats, Scizor is added to act as a potential late-game sweeper with Swords Dance-boosted Bullet Punches and Fightinium Z-boosted Superpower.

This bulky offense team features Silvally with Ice Memory serving as an offensive defogger. Due to its weakness to Stealth Rock and its lack of recovery options apart from Rest, Florges supports the featured Pokemon by providing healing by virtue of Wish. Eventually, due to its generic defensive synergy with Florges, Mega Aggron is added. Alolan Muk and Hippowdon are then added to the team to increase potential switch-ins against some of the most threatening attackers. Finally, Moltres is added to serve as a check against Breloom and Scizor and to serve as a threatening attacker for the team.

This team features an original core containing Primarina with Metronome (item) and Nasty Plot Mega Houndoom to decimate defensively-oriented builds. With Metronome in maximum effect and Echoed Voice in its maximum power, Primarina can defeat Blissey in one hit after Stealth Rock is on the field. While Mega Houndoom compounds Primarina's capability of wrecking defensive builds, it also runs Flame Charge so as not to become weak to offensive builds as well, most notably all relevant Choice Scarf Pokemon. With the core being weak to Breloom, Vileplume was eventually added for its defensive capabilities apart from checking that said Pokemon. Cobalion is then added to serve as a dedicated physical wallbreaker and a back-up win condition by virtue of its Double Dance + Fightinium Z set. Gliscor is also added to provide some key immunities to Ground and Electric attacks, and to provide hazards integral to the success of the team. Finally, the team features Avalugg as its secret ingredient as it takes even super-effective Physical hits such as Darmanitan's Flare Blitz and Breloom's Focus Punch; with Rocky Helmet, it can punish such attackers, most notably Pokemon with U-turn. Avalugg has Avalanche and Earthquake as its modes of attack, as Avalanche can deal damage while taking damage considerably, and as Earthquake can deal with Fire- and Steel-types on the switch.

This team features Choice Scarf Vanilluxe almost having all Ice-type moves in Blizzard (the strongest available attack when Hail is active), Freeze-Dry (to deal with Water types), and Frost Breath (to score Critical Hits whenever a Pokemon has made Special Defense boosts). It is then paired with Scizor serving as a bulky pivot with Roost and U-turn, and acts as a potential late-game sweeper thanks to Swords Dance and Bullet Punch. Next, Swampert is added to serve as a Fire resist and a switch-in to conventional Mega Manectric sets while providing Stealth Rock for the team; while Hydreigon acts as a Defogger and another resist to Fire attacks, and has Dread Plate to easily spam Dark Pulses. Mega Aerodactyl is then added to serve as a speedy attacker to pick off weakened targets, and Celebi rounds this team up providing utility against the nowadays-common Breloom.

This team features Regice using Z-Gravity to take advantage of inaccurate but powerful attacks to the fullest. With Gravity grounding all Pokemon in the field, Sticky Web is the most reliable way of slowing down Pokemon, and Slurpuff fits the bill for running Endeavor (it has to be Level 85 so it has to reduce its defensive capabilities such that the Focus Sash will be consumed, activating Unburden). Stealth Rock is the most ubiquitous move worth using in this team, and Krookodile is suitable for the role due to its decent Speed and typing. Finally, two Pokemon are added in the team to prevent any hazard clearing actions from getting in the way: Chandelure to block Rapid Spin, and Tornadus to catch Defog (and consequently runs Agility to sweep).

. . . . . . .
The UU Community (including Iron Chefs!) may now vote for two of the most favorite teams in terms of the three criteria: Creativity, Essence, and Effectiveness. They can also vote for one team in different categories. Here's an example of how a vote goes:

CREATIVITY: Team 1, Team 2
ESSENCE: Team 3, Team 4
EFFECTIVENESS: Team 5, Team 6
Or, if you still want the reasoning behind those votes, please refer to this:

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 1 - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
2. Team 2 - Because he always build creative sets and never disappoint!

ESSENCE:
1. Team 3 - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
2. Team 4 - He takes advantage of the secret ingredient in order for his key Pokemon to shine.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 5 - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
2. Team 6 - Don't be fooled with a team that was unaesthetically pleasing, it's just damn effective in what it does!
The Chairman becomes a little lenient by not requiring everyone to put the reasons behind their vote! While the Chairman is hoping for a better voter turnout in this episode and in the succeeding episodes, should the UU community wants to put reasons behind their vote, those are very welcome.

. . . . . . .

The UU community has until
TUESDAY, MAY 8, 9 AM GMT -4
to cast a vote on this thread who are
the most original,
the most essential,

and
the best-tasting
dishes ever witnessed this round!

ALLEZ, CUISINE!

CREATIVITY:
1. Team 2 - Quad ice types is a bold move in this Scizor and Moltres infested meta, and the weaknesses were covered pretty alright in the slots alotted
2. Team 9 - A very creative use of Regice and its movepool to make a fairly powerful sweeper.

ESSENCE:
1. Team 6 - A very sturdy use of Silvally to pressure bulky waters and grounds out of their rocks.
2. Team 3 - This team feels very Hyper Offense-ish to me and I don't even mean that as a bad thing, using Glalie with spikes and ice explosion momentum along with a handful of setup sweepers is utterly disgusting and sure to snap any team it runs into like a twig.

EFFECTIVENESS:
1. Team 8 - If Vanilluxe was UU, this would be a bog standard team. It fits Vanilluxe right into the trends of the meta and runs with it there. It has options to beat a number of common mons in the meta with Vanilluxe, as well as many options to defeat other common meta trends.
2. Team 3 - On the flip side of the coin, this team IS the meta trends. Hydreigon, Scizor, Breloom, strong flying attacker, volt immunity, this team has all the makings of a strong offensive team. And the amount of pressure it can apply to other teams with a fast paced playstyle involving a suicide setter is something that's hard to do nowadays, but this team pulls it off very well.

Creativity:
Team 7 - Used the ingredient uniquely & effectively
Team 9 - Puts the Secret in Ingredient
Essence:
Team 7 - Generally unique and mdoom is goat
Team 8 - Bold and uses other flavors to make up for the ice
Effective:
Team 1 - Truly uses this ingredient to its best potential
Team 3 - Pressure cooked to perfection, uses various other ingredients to create a team that tastes so good in this current meta

Good day, everyone! Apologies for the undue delay due to several edits made coming from the rates from the Panel of Judges.

Anyway, here's the big reveal!

This team belongs to Smallsmallrose.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Apart from Mega Glalie with Spikes, Sleep Talk Doublade, and Rhyperior that is actually picking up steam in the UnderUsed metagame, the team isn't earth-shattering in terms of this category.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
While this team featured Mega Glalie with Spikes nicely, it seems that the team lacks the offensive pressure to a point that this team will always pull out a Defog as safely as possible, especially that the rest of the team are defensive in nature.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5.5 / 10
While the team has Doublade to deal with Rapid Spin users, the team could have needed someone like Tornadus to catch Defog and proceed to sweep. Apparently, there isn't a clearer win condition apart from Doublade that could take advantage of the hazard stacking strategy, and the lack of pressure against Defog users is a letdown for this team. Apart from Mega Glalie's Freeze-Dry breaking most Bulky Waters, no other Pokemon is keeping the pressure against such Pokemon. However, this is one valiant effort in showcasing a nifty strategy, despite your loss against one of the Iron Chefs.

TOTAL SCORE: 12 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Sage: LOSS

This team belongs to Jetstertsyko.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
This team is rather typical strategy-wise, but adding Regice as a back-up Aurora Veil user is somehow gutsy. With Belly Drum Slurpuff being a rarity nowadays, a rather average score is warranted here.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
While Regice as an Aurora Veil user is what makes the secret ingredient, Aurora Veil is best used to only one user as much as possible; Regice having Aurora Veil is actually too much to ask for, since this team already has Alolan Sandslash to get Aurora Veil up multiple times.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4 / 10
For a metagame that is infested with Scizor and other Fire-type Pokemon, this team might not fare well against most teams. It is actually the rather straightforward strategy that makes the score slightly higher than expected; it is somehow surprising that you have actually won against one of the Iron Chefs, a first in your whole career!

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: LOSS
vs. explodingdaisies: WIN
vs. Sage: LOSS

This team belongs to PinkDragonTamer.

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Sage: WIN
vs. explodingdaisies: WIN

This team belongs to SuckyTheClown.

CREATIVITY: 2.5 / 5
Substitute + BoltBeam Regice is the selling point for the creativity on this team, along with some of the cool things like Spooky Plate + Hex Gengar and Fightinium Z Scizor. Nothing much earth-shattering for the rest of the team -- some of which are rather suboptimal at best.
.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
This team has featured Regice, which is cool enough, but sadly, Kyurem is a better Pokemon in terms of its function. While it is a valiant effort to showing Regice's capabilities, it could've been used on a different role, hence the lowered score in this category.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4.5 / 10
Delving first to the team composition that is reflective of the Creativity category is the suboptimal sets the team has, notably Regice and Sylveon. Regice should not have Rest as its next slot since Regice doesn't want to be a sitting duck (unless Sleep Talk instead of Substitute which is still acceptable by any means). Sylveon must have its Defense EVs invested instead of Special Defense EVs due to how Sylveon is fairly bad at taking Physical attacks without Defense investment. As for the team synergy and direction, apparently, your team lacks Scizor checks, which should have been a huge consideration whenever you build a team featuring an Ice type (not just Regice), and your team only has Hydreigon as a Fire resist, hence Pokemon with the likes of Infernape and Darmanitan could wreck your team apart. Still a valiant effort in building a team, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN
vs. Sage: LOSS

This team belongs to itsjustdrew.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
It's actually gutsy to see Silvally with Ice Memory in action as an offensive Defogger, integral to the success of Moltres. Also, Curse Mega Aggron is not exactly as common as the other sets, along with the Speed creeping Florges to deal with the likes of Adamant Breloom. These warrant a fairly average score in this criterion due to the rest of the team being commonplace in the UU metagame.
.

ESSENCE: 2.5 / 5
In theory, Offensive Defog Ice Silvally and Moltres is an interesting core because of Silvally's obvious weakness to Scizor's and Breloom's priority moves, and Moltres being one of the better checks to both of those Pokemon in the tier and really appreciates reliable hazard removal. However, it seems that Defog Ice Silvally could have been replaced by either Avalugg or Cryogonal either for the following reasons: its bulk, or its high offensive presence, and both can run Rapid Spin to clear hazards away while maintaining the essence of the secret ingredient.

EFFECTIVENESS: 4 / 10
Due to the team being defensive in nature, barring Silvally and Moltres, it's sad that the team has extreme difficulties dealing with bulky Pokemon with the likes of Quagsire and other defensive archetypes as well. Therefore, the direction the team has isn't exactly clear, and from the looks of it, it looks like a semi-stall team but doesn't look like Stall for having some offensive options such as Hippowdon's Fire Fang. Essentially, the team needs a bit of direction -- an end goal, to say the least.

TOTAL SCORE: 9.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Sage: LOSS
vs. warzoid: LOSS

This team belongs to Nightingales.

CREATIVITY: 3.5 / 5
Metronome + Echoed Voice Primarina, Flame Charge + Nasty Plot Mega Houndoom, and Vileplume are rather underutilized in this metagame today. Not to mention Avalugg for having an absurd Defense stat that makes up for its terrible defensive typing.
.

ESSENCE: 3 / 5
Avalugg, while it is said to be capable of absorbing Flare Blitz from the likes of Darmanitan, looks like a Pokemon being slapped for the sake of the secret ingredient, provided how offensive the build is. It could've been better if it runs something like Cryogonal for higher Speed and greater offensive presence, but it doesn't mean that Avalugg's capabilities are underestimated.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
Apparently, Primarina + Mega Houndoom is a good core to begin with, but sadly, Primarina has to get six Echoed Voices in succession to get a kill on Blissey before Mega Houndoom (and Cobalion) can start sweeping. Also, with the lack of a switch-in against Hidden Power Ice Mega Manectric variants due to Gliscor having no Special Defense investment, aggressive opponents will use Volt Switch against the team without having to revenge kill later on due to the lack of a Choice Scarf user. Still a valiant effort in building the team, nonetheless.

TOTAL SCORE: 11.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Sage: LOSS
vs. explodingdaisies: LOSS

This team belongs to DraconicLepus.

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
Choice Scarf Vanilluxe is definitely an interesting Pokemon to build around. While the rest of the team looked standard at first glance, Bulky Swords Dance Scizor, Dread Plate Defog Hydreigon, Double Fang Mega Aerodactyl, and a rather uncommon Celebi set warrant a fairly average score in this criterion.
.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
While it could've been a stronger Ice Pokemon in the form of Kyurem, Vanilluxe can actually take advantage of its general niche (setting up Hail, firing Blizzards all day), and how the teammates support it is actually enough to warrant a high score in this criterion.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
While this team is definitely one of the teams worth looking for, there are some major issue worth addressing, one of which is a more reliable Scizor switch-in (apart from Scizor itself), since Swampert gets chipped easily; therefore, the match-up against opposing Scizor ultimately relies on the opponent not scouting for Hidden Power Fire from Vanilluxe or Fire Fang on Mega Aerodactyl (both of which gets struck by Bullet Punch) while it comes in for free on Celebi, a Choice-locked Vanilluxe, and Scizor. Another issue worth addressing is the match-up against defensive archetypes; the team lacks a more reliable win condition apart from Bullet Punch Scizor, which is apparently weak against such. However, this team gets a salute for building a good team around Choice Scarf Vanilluxe.

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN
vs. Sage: LOSS

So, as you may notice, Team 4 has been skipped. This is because Team 4 belongs to Iron Chef xMarth!

CREATIVITY: 3 / 5
While the team employs a rather straightforward Aurora Veil team, it's amazing to see Dusk Lycanroc and Vanilluxe in action as those two aren't seen as much. Double Dance + Poison Heal Gliscor is also a nifty bonus to warrant a fairly average score in this criterion.
.

ESSENCE: 5 / 5
This team features the secret ingredient as if it is integral to the success of the team: Vanilluxe being integral to setting up Aurora Veil is needed to keep the set-up attackers going and potentially wreck other Pokemon apart.

EFFECTIVENESS: 6.5 / 10
While the team in itself is straightforward in execution, the biggest issue with this team is the lack of switch-ins against Scizor (especially with Aurora Veil not being up) to a point that the only way the team can do against it is to lure it with Fire Fang from Dusk Lycanroc or with Hidden Power Fire from Vanilluxe. This team actually is enough to break defensive archetypes while at the same time bolstering your match-up against offensive archetypes.

TOTAL SCORE: 14.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: WIN
vs. Sage: LOSS

And finally, you may notice there are 9 teams instead of the original 8 shown, because Team 9 is built by the Iron Chef Chairman himself! Note that this team actually serves as a "placeholder" - all of the matches against the Iron Chefs will not count from their W/L records.

This team belongs to the Iron Chef Chairman himself, no other than Euphonos.

CREATIVITY: 4.5 / 5
With Slurpuff with Sticky Web and Z-Gravity Regice alone, it goes to show how creative and unique this team is. Also, this team counteracts a potential Serperior weakness on Agility Tornadus, one of the primary reasons Sticky Web teams are not a big hit in the Underused metagame. Despite the standard choices in Krookodile, Tentacruel, and Chandelure, this team deserves a considerably high score in this criterion.
.

ESSENCE: 4 / 5
This team is reflective of a most recent obsession with Sticky Web Slurpuff; while Regice is an underrated choice especially for using a secret ingredient, it could have been used by Starmie, fulfilling the same set fairly easily without the need to set up Rock Polish.

EFFECTIVENESS: 5 / 10
For an offensive build like this, Tentacruel seems like an odd choice here; while it greatly supports Regice as a way of clearing Scizor out, it could have been fulfilled better by either Starmie or Tsareena -- the latter being beneficial in dealing with Swampert, which the team somehow fails to address. Mega Aerodactyl and Hydreigon are also huge threats under Sticky Web, and Krookodile is the only Pokemon capable of softening Mega Aerodactyl's hits, and there aren't any Pokemon worth taking a hit from any of Hydreigon's STAB moves apart from Regice with its good Special bulk. With each Pokemon performing integral roles, the lack of Sleep absorbers in the team is somehow glaring due to the more common Breloom -- Chandelure could have placed Sleep Talk over Memento or Trick, and with the team not having a dedicated stall breaker, the match-up against defensive archetypes are some things to watch out as well. Despite all these issues, this team is a fresh take on using Sticky Web that no one has ever done before.

TOTAL SCORE: 13.5 / 20

BATTLE REPLAYS:
vs. Ov3r Ac3: LOSS
vs. Sage: LOSS
vs. warzoid: LOSS

The winner of this episode, with a cumulative weighted average of 67.36%, goes to...

Chef PinkDragonTamer!

Chef PinkDragonTamer's wins against Iron Chefs Sage and explodingdaisies reflect how effective Mega Glalie is put on a team, and the UU community can simply attest to the team's effectiveness, hence his team being etched in the Hall of Fame. Here's the spreadsheet on how I come up with all the computations.

The second episode of Iron Chef is about to make its way soon. Since it's summer for some of the people here, hope you guys could find a shade...

Good day, everyone! The second episode is now up!

For this episode, allow me to introduce to you one of the unusual figures in the realm of movies; let us all welcome...

JON FAVREAU!
Jonathan Kolia Favreau is an American filmmaker known to direct films such as Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010). Not only he can direct movies but also he was known in acting roles in films such as Chef (2014) (which he also directed). Favreau also portrays Happy Hogan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and played Pete Becker during season three of the television sitcom Friends. He produces films under his banner, Fairview Entertainment. The company has been credited as co-producers in most of Favreau's directorial ventures.

One of the films he directed is chosen to be the secret ingredient for this episode, and now feel free to raise the dome!

. . . . . . .

THE JUNGLE BOOK!

“The reason the beasts give among themselves is that Man is the weakest and most defenseless of all living things."
The Jungle Book is a 2016 American fantasy adventure film directed and produced by Jon Favreau, based on Rudyard Kipling's eponymous collective works of the same name. The reason for this secret ingredient for this week is because participants are required to build around at least two Pokemon residing in the Forest, as shown in this link. Note that evolved forms and alternate forms by virtue of regional variations and Mega Evolutions count toward the secret ingredient.

Participants have until
FRIDAY, MAY 11, 11:59 AM GMT -4
to complete your dishes to be sent to the Chairman via PM.
