[Overview]

[SET]
name: Use Chimecho Instead
move 1: Hidden Power Psychic
item: Twisted Spoon
ability: Levitate
nature: Modest
evs: 244 SpA / 84 Def / 180 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Hidden Power is Unown’s only move, so it might as well try to utilize its STAB. Hidden Power Psychic hits opposing Fighting- and Poison-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Arbok, and Swalot.

[ADDITIONAL SET COMMENTS]
This EV spread has enough bulk so that Unown can tank a Hidden Power Ghost from Jolly +0 Bulk Up Hitmonchan and kill Hitmonchan after one layer of spikes a majority of the time. Unown also still outspeeds uninvested base 60s and 70s such as Physically Defensive Tangela and Dewgong. Twisted Spoon boosts Hidden Power Psychic, allowing it to 2HKO Hitmonchan and ∞HKO Dark-types such as Sableye, Murkrow, and Cacturne. Levitate gives Unown a type immunity and allows it to switch into top-tier threats such a Choice Band Hitmonchan locked into Earthquake. Great teammates for Unown include Ditto and Luvdisc, the former possessing a Ghost-type immunity for Unown while Unown can tank Fighting-type hits for it, and the latter as it acts as Speed control.

[Other Options]
There are four ways to customize Unown: its Hidden Power type, its held item, its EV spread, and its team slot. One of the most common Hidden Power types seen on Unown other than Hidden Power Psychic is Hidden Power Fighting, which in just about any other metagame would make sense, as it super effectively hits Dark-types that would be immune to Hidden Power Psychic and use Unown as setup fodder. However, two of the best Dark-types in NU, Murkrow and Sableye, are either hit neutrally or possess an immunity, and therefore isn't a great option. Other Hidden Power types such as Hidden Power Ghost and Hidden Power Fire that an opposing Pokemon might be immune to such as Vigoroth and Flareon are not recommended. All physical variants of Unown should change EV spread from 244 SpA to 244 Atk, change the nature from Modest to Adamant, and equip Unown with a Choice Band. Chimecho is a worthwhile replacement for your Unown team slot, as they both have Levitate, and Chimecho has better base stats than Unown in all departments except for Attack, which neither one uses on their primary set. Abra is a frailer alternative to Unown that gives up a type immunity for blazing Speed and extraordinary Special Attack.

[Checks and Counters]
Dark-types such as Poochyena and Carvanha completely wall variants utilizing Hidden Power Psychic, Ghost-types such as Shuppet and Duskull wall variants utilizing Hidden Power Fighting, and Normal-types such as Igglybuff and Azurill wall variants utilizing Hidden Power Ghost. If the opposing Pokemon has a BST of at least 300, it will likely slaughter Unown.

I don't know how competitive we're trying to make this Unown set, I know it still needs to be somewhat of a joke analysis, but I really don't like having either Twisted Spoon HP Psychic or Choice Band HP Fighting as the onsite analysis. It pains me that the HP Psychic set is just a worse worse Chimecho and that the HP Fighting set that is supposed to be hitting ADV NU's Dark-types don't hit our two best Darks for SE, those being Sableye and Murkrow.

B is for Birb (Unown) @ Choice Band
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 244 Atk / 84 Def / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Hidden Power [Flying]

This is the set I have in mind. At least it can maybe beat Hitmonchan, idk. What else is the Pokemon really going to be doing anyways? It sucks that bad. This EV spread has enough bulk so that Unown can tank a Hidden Power Ghost from Jolly +0 Bulk Up Hitmonchan most of the time and kill Hitmonchan after 1 layer of spikes most of the time. Still outspeeds uninvested base 60s and 70s such as Phy Def Tangela and Dewgong. If you have something better in mind Oglemi by all means share, but I don't feel comfortable writing an analysis for Unown when it can't do a single thing.

mehhh I get not wanting it to be outdone by Chimecho, but if you want to have a laugh and bring fkn Unown, the best way you're going to try and get a kill with it is with HP Psychic since that gives you the most damage against a broader range of things. I like the EV spread though

Hidden Power is Unown’s only possible move, so it might as well try to utilize take advantage of its STAB (Utilize vs use thing again, and it wants to make use of the bonus, not make use of "its" bonus; STAB refers to the bonus not the move.). Hidden Power Psychic hits opposing Fighting- and Poison-type Pokemon such as Hitmonchan, Arbok, and Swalot.

[ADDITIONAL SET COMMENTS]
This EV spread has enough bulk so that Unown can tank a an unboosted Hidden Power Ghost from Jolly +0 Bulk Up Hitmonchan and still have enough Special Attack to (it doesn't have enough bulk to KO Hitmonchan, but it has enough bulk to survive a hit and has Special Attack to KO Hitmonchan after a layer of Spikes)kill KO Hitmonchan after one layer of spikes a majority of the time. Unown also still outspeeds uninvested base 60s and 70s such as Physically Defensive Tangela and Dewgong. Twisted Spoon boosts Hidden Power Psychic, allowing it to 2HKO all Hitmonchan and ∞HKO Dark-types such as Sableye, Murkrow, and Cacturne. Levitate gives Unown a type immunity and allows it to switch into top-tier threats such a Choice Band Hitmonchan locked into Earthquake. Great teammates for Unown include Ditto and Luvdisc, the former possessing a Ghost-type immunity for Unown while Unown can tank tanks (tense agreement, "possessing" is the present participle form and adding the auxiliary verb "can" to tanks expresses possibility that isn't compatible) Fighting-type hits for it, and the latter as it acts as Speed control. (this never stops being funny no matter how many times I read it)

Other Hidden Power types that other Pokemon might be immune to,(AC) such as Hidden Power Ghost against Normal-types,(AC) and or Hidden Power Fire against Pokemon with Flash Fire,(AC) that an opposing Pokemon might be immune to such as Vigoroth and Flareon are not recommended as Unown will be even easier to set up against. (this sentence read extremely badly before; if you desire you can word the last bit in a humorous way) All physical variants of Unown should relocate the Special Attack EVs to the Attack stat change EV spread from 244 SpA to 244 Atk,("244 SpA" and "244Atk" are not EV spreads, rather a single stat) change the nature from Modest to Adamant, and equip Unown with a Choice Band. Chimecho is a worthwhile replacement for your Unown team slot, as they both have Levitate, and Chimecho has better base stats than Unown in all departments except for Attack, which neither one uses on their primary set. Abra is a frailer alternative to Unown that gives up a type immunity for blazing (Abra isn't slow but it isn't blazing by any means, it speed ties with 6-8 relevant Pokemon and is outsped by around 10 more relevant Pokemon. I get its a joke analysis things involving viable Pokemon shouldn't be exaggerated) Speed and extraordinary (I personally wouldn't use extraordinary here as from experience I've been let down many times by Abra not being able to get KOs, but I guess its fine especially compared to Unown) Special Attack.

[Checks and Counters]
Dark-types such as Poochyena and Carvanha completely wall variants utilizing running Hidden Power Psychic, Ghost-types such as Shuppet and Duskull wall variants utilizing using Hidden Power Fighting, and Normal-types such as Igglybuff and Azurill wall variants utilizing running Hidden Power Ghost. If the opposing Pokemon has a BST of at least 300, it will likely slaughter Unown.
