Unpopular opinions

Most people wouldn't be able to recognize the sex of an animal (that has no major changes like peafowl) without direct comparision from another specimeb, the size difference is really not that big and the exaggerated "make the female ones have less" gender differences are a bit cringy imo.

Not as bad as making every female have hearts, because feminine <3 I guess
Not. True, several bird species have Males being bright and colorful while the females are dull. Most people I know can easily tell the sexes apart. I don’t see what’s cringy about it.

Still don't see what's cringe about aesthetic changes for different genders.
It's not about the concept of aesthetic changes. I think unfeazant is one of the better regional birds because of the gender difference. The issue is just how lots of the dp beta gender differences were just removing/downplaying traits from the females that made the pokémon look good in the first place, even though almost all of the real-life counterparts of those pokémon don't have changes other than "one of the genders is a bit bigger", and completely ignoring the idea that sometimes the male is the one that's a bit smaller.

It just felt more like they were going with the "female pokemon need to look weaker/softer because they're female" but more exaggerated.

Also, most predatory birds the females are larger
The contemporary gender differences like hearts, or worse, lipstick honestly makes Pokemon a joke from a beast/animal standpoint, seemingly catering to casuals more and making their world less "real or grounded". More unique gender diffs like Torchic on the other hand are extremely cool, albeit disgusting

It's like some fan ideas of gender differences one can find out there in the internet. You can usually guess the female has something resembling eyelashes and a more pink-ish body color.

Except we are talking about the official ones.

...to be fair we're still talking of a Japanese company, and Japanese games are infamous for throwing around this kind of stereotypes since it's a social aspect where their society is way behind.

Questionable in 2021 sure, but Pokemon designs are hardly unique in this.

.....also I'll just be a broken clock and remind you we're talking of a game aimed at kids, and honestly while extremely stereotypical, this kind of differences is also extremely easy to "recognize".

Keep in mind that Venusaur already have a gender difference with female Venusaurs having a seed in their flower, which is accurate to plants while this redesign giving females stamens instead are giving it male plant parts. (This is also why male Meganiums have longer stamens on their head)

Only a handful of the current Gender differences I can tolerate. And female Wobuffet is I tolerate because it's that hilarious.

I dunno, I get mad when my mons get OHKOd by a punching bag wearing a lipstick :psyangry:

Yiiiikes, I also remembered those bad looking "male Primarina", "female Cinderace", fan """"corrections"""".

Admittedly starters shouldn't look that humanoid or hyper gender oriented based on human gender, but Primarina in particular I barely find good redesigns

Because most of them are blatantly furry bait. I'm cool with some ideas like swapping the starfish hair decoration to a chain-like one and changing the hairstyle, but when Primarina starts showing a six-pack, I call bullshit.

Unpopular opinions... Oh i like every eeveelution. Just flat out like all of the designs and the pokemon in general. (Not really a unpopualar opinion. but i tried)
I definitely agree, I think all of the eeveelutions are interesting, with my least favorite being Glaceon for no particular reason. I think the designs fit the typing well, so yeah.

I wanna be a hero is my favorite opening, hands down. First time I watched it I had no idea about the new Hoenn mons roster or evil teams, I got blown away.

Also, I don't like the openings of the latest arcs, the Kalos, Alola and Journeys openings are just so bland :/ (talking about the dub openings, the jap openings are great)

OG Japan's theme makes me mad. The singer is great, it hypes up at the late middle....and then they show a panty shot and talk about it
Like God Dang it
Oh right, unpopular, opinions
The XY and Z anime is overrated
Ash is no longer dumb, but since then has been blander than cardboard. Ash Greninja was stupid, and somehow made Pikachu sidelined. The Serena shipping attempts were lame, and Bonnie isn't that much better than Max. Especially with the Dedenne tokening, and reverse Brock shtick

If we're talking about the anime, I honestly prefer SM's anime to XY's if I say so myself. It may have been very unconventional for the anime and a new spin, and not totally in line with the SM games but it's a great series and just plain fun to watch while having some incredibly great character arcs (especially Lillie's, even if it's not totally in line with her game incarnation's character). It doesn't nerf Ash like BW does but it does give him a much livelier personality in return which makes his presence much more enjoyable than in XY. The main crew had a lot of likable personalities in the lot and they bounced off one another incredibly well (Kiawe is GOAT though!). It tried to go for a slice-of-life style, and it nailed it in doing so, because it knew what it was trying to do and rolled all the way with it. I could go on a long talk about what made the SM anime great but I'd prefer not to say too much so as to not spoil it: I'd suggest watching it if you haven't already!

I'd argue the Sun and Moon anime is one of the stronger anime series of the bunch out of them all and the best the anime has been since the DP era. I'm definitely enjoying Journeys too from what I've seen of it so far but the newer anime sagas have definitely been a step up from XY and especially (lmao) BW animes. No disrepect to XY since I felt it was fine for what it was worth, but I definitely think it's unpopular to say that I prefer Sun and Moon's anime saga over it.

I personally think Ash was at his strongest during the Sinnoh League. Not only were all his Sinnoh Pokemon strong (Buizel and Gible being the only not fully evolved members though they made battles with them believable it wasn't an issue) but he also called in his reserves.

Remember when the first scenes reveaked from SM caused quite the controversy? I'm not a fan of the SM anime (nor XY for that matter) but this controversy was so dumb: a lot of people ranting about animations without knowing what even animation means :blobwizard:, including XY fanboys boasting how its series was '''mature''' and '''serious'''. I remember getting mad when the traditional style got canned past EP260 so I think I can empathize JUST A LITTLE BIT, though.

On another note, I think Colosseum is kinda overrated. What I appreciate the most from these games is the different setting, you are finally not some kid doing the gym challenge again, the goal here is just save the Pokemon by snagging them and stop the villain team for good. You are Wes, an ex member of the evil team who betrayed them and run off with the Snag machine in an awesome opening sequence....buuuuut that's it for his character, you are just another mute heroic protag in this franchise, not even some amusing dialogue options like in Gen 7-8, which sucks since being a rebellious anti hero is something that was never replicated and just oozes wasted potential. This also extends to his successor Michael from XD, who some people pass off just because he's another kid like in the main games, but does it really matter that much considering how Wes is (or isn't)?

The Shadow Pokemon themselves can be a slog to train, especially in Colosseum where they tend to go Hyper Mode quite often and that slowns down the already slow paced double battles even further. It's not really a fun experience, especially since there are no Escape Ropes or Dig to escape from dungeons, or even a SAVE button in the menu, so I hope you like backtracking. I still like the game overall but it's far from my favorites and XD is overall superior. I think if I weren't a Pokemon veteran that was looking for a different experience from the main games and appreciate higher difficulties, I would've dropped the game quickly.
