[Overview]

Urshifu-R is a very potent wallbreaker and pivot in the OU metagame, being able to force switches and threaten common Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Mandibuzz while pivoting on switch-ins to its STAB moves such as Toxapex, Slowbro, and Tangrowth. It can even overwhelm and take advantage of defensive cores made of bulky Water-types like Slowking and Tapu Fini with ease. It has incredibly strong priority in its STAB Choice Band-boosted Aqua Jet, making it effective at revenge killing weakened faster foes like boosted Volcarona. Its STAB moves, while strong, are resisted by common walls such as Toxapex and Slowbro, which limits it as a wallbreaker in certain matchups. However, it can gain momentum by pivoting out of these into offensive teammates like Kartana and Tapu Koko for additional pressure. Urshifu-R only uses contact moves, so Surging Strikes can cause almost 50% in self-damage against Iron Barbs and Rocky Helmet users like Toxapex and Corviknight, making them able to consistently wear it down; in addition, Static from Zapdos can be extremely limiting. Urshifu-R is reliant on Choice Band to do most of its damage, meaning that it can't utilize its Dark resistance to switch into Knock Off without heavy punishment. This also makes it heavily prediction-reliant, potentially losing momentum against walls if it uses a resisted move.

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Surging Strikes
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Aqua Jet
move 4: U-turn
item: Choice Band
ability: Unseen Fist
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Surging Strikes ignores Defense boosts from Pokemon such as Iron Defense Corviknight and Skarmory, as well as breaking through Substitutes and potential Focus Sashes. Aqua Jet is great for revenge killing chipped foes, especially helping in the hyper offense matchup. Frailer Pokemon such as Volcarona, Blacephalon, and Hawlucha all take good damage from Aqua Jet, with the former two being OHKOed and Hawlucha having a potential sweep stopped when chipped. U-turn lets Urshifu-R keep up momentum on defensive switch-ins and provide wallbreaking opportunities for its teammates. Choice Band allows it to 2HKO many pivots such as Slowking, Skarmory, and Corviknight. A Jolly nature allows Urshifu-R to outspeed and revenge kill Pokemon such as Tapu Lele, Kyurem, and Landorus-T at the cost of some power. However, if outspeeding these Pokemon isn't important for the team, an Adamant nature lets it break through normal soft checks like Buzzwole, Slowking, and Tangrowth much more easily. Ice Punch can be used over Aqua Jet, giving it a very hard hit on Dragon-types trying to pivot into and scout it such as Garchomp, Dragonite, and Dragapult. It also gives a decently strong hit against Grass-types like Tangrowth and Amoonguss without having the Defense drop and Pokemon immune to it.

With Urshifu-R acting as a very strong pivot with U-turn, many powerful wallbreakers appreciate its presence. Heatran, Kartana, and Kyurem can be given free switch ins and threaten out checks to Urshifu-R such as Slowbro, Tangrowth, and Toxapex with their own powerful attacks. Heatran in particular appreciates free switch in from U-turn to fire off Magma Storm and trap foes, and, as Dragon- and Water-types commonly come into Heatran, this chips them down for Urshifu-R to break. Dragapult can invite Pokemon like Blissey and Mandibuzz that Urshifu-R can pressure, and together they can remove shared checks such as Tapu Fini, forming a terrifying wallbreaking core. Tapu Lele works as a great partner to help overwhelm common pivots like Slowking while also appreciating momentum from Urshifu-R's U-turn. With Rocky Helmet users being such a big issue for Urshifu-R, Knock Off users such as Rillaboom, Kartana, and Tornadus-T, which invite in Rocky Helmet users like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Toxapex, are greatly appreciated. Rain support provided by Pelipper powers up Surging Strikes to incredible levels and lets Aqua Jet revenge kill foes more easily. Defensive checks such as Tapu Fini, Buzzwole, and specially defensive Toxapex are much less safe switch-ins with rain up. Future Sight support from the likes of Slowking, Galarian Slowking, and Slowbro is also incredibly useful for Urshifu-R, helping it break through checks it normally can't such as Toxapex, Tangrowth, and Amoonguss. Blissey acts as a specially bulky pivot that covers for some of Urshifu-R's big weaknesses to Pokemon like Dragapult while also giving it free switch ins with Teleport to wallbreak.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

Urshifu-R can run a set of Whirlpool, Taunt, Surging Strikes, and Thunder Punch or Close Combat with Protective Pads. This lets it greatly bait in and trap checks like Toxapex, Slowbro, and Slowking but sacrifices a large amount of breaking power with the loss of a damage-boosting item. A Bulk Up sweeper set can allow it to boost without locking it into a move. Equipped with Bulk Up, Zen Headbutt or Thunder Punch alongside its dual STAB moves, and Protective Pads to ignore Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs chip damage, it can set up against Pokemon such as Toxapex and Corviknight lacking Brave Bird. However, its lack of initial power, pivoting, and priority takes away a lot of Urshifu-R's normal strengths. A Protective Pads with four attacks set can also be used, letting Urshifu-R freely pivot with U-turn and use Surging Strikes without fear of contact effects. The power drop is massive, though, noticeably making it ineffective at breaking through Pokemon like Corviknight and Skarmory immediately, limiting it as a wallbreaker overall. Choice Scarf Urshifu-R can act as a fast revenge killer with strong STAB moves. This set comes at the cost of a lot of attacking power, though, and with Urshifu-R's general goal being to wallbreak, it is not heavily recommended.

Checks and Counters
====

**Bulky Water-types**: Toxapex and Slowbro completely wall Choice Band sets lacking Thunder Punch, and they can easily take a Thunder Punch and pivot out if needed. Other Water-types such as Tapu Fini can also check Urshifu-R, but, as Tapu Fini lacks reliable recovery, it can't wall Urshifu-R long term.

**Grass-types**: Defensive Grass-types like Tangrowth and Amoonguss can completely wall Urshifu-R, and offensive Grass-types like Rillaboom and Kartana threaten it with an OHKO from their STAB moves while resisting Surging Strikes and Aqua Jet.

**Contact Effects**: Rocky Helmet, Ferrothorn's Iron Barbs, and Zapdos's Static are all extremely harmful to Urshifu-R due to its heavy use of Surging Strikes and U-turn, making it much less effective.

**Fast Wallbreakers**: Urshifu-R's Speed is fairly average and its special bulk and defensive typing leave much to be desired, allowing many strong wallbreakers to revenge kill it. Zeraora, Tapu Koko, Dragapult, and Tornadus-T all force it to switch out, as they easily beat it offensively.

[Overview]

  • Urshifu-R is a potent wallbreaker in the current metagame, with high base power threatening STAB moves and pivoting in U-turn it can deal big damage to many common defensive Pokemon with the right attacks such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Mandibuzz.
  • It has access to some of the strongest priority from its STAB Choice Band Aqua Jet, making it effective at revenge killing weakened opponents who are even faster than it i think you can mention a few examples here like +1 Volc.
  • Its STAB moves, while strong, are resisted by multiple common Pokemon such as Toxapex, Dragapult, and Slowbro, which limits what it can do offensively in certain match ups.
  • Urshifu-R uses many moves that make contact with the opponent, meaning Rocky Helmet users like Toxapex and Corviknight are able to consistently wear it down through chip damage since you're talking about chip damage here you could add something about how it also gets worn down by hazards.

    You could mention briefly how its damage output is middling without a choice band, meaning it could get crippled if trying to switch into certain pokemon it could kill like Ferro and Lando-T if they're running knock off

[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Surging Strikes
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Aqua Jet
move 4: U-turn / Thunder Punch
item: Choice Band
ability: Unseen Fist
nature: Adamant / Jolly
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • The last move after the basic STAB combination can be dedicated to either U-turn or Thunder Punch, both of which have their benefits. U-turn is a great pivoting move, letting Urshifu-R keep up momentum on walls coming in to beat it. Thunder Punch instead is able to hit bulky Water-types which are some of its greatest walls very hard not really hard since slowbro gets 3hkoed and toxa 2hkoed with a 6.6% chance and both have regenerator so you could put it differently (also you mention this later so kinda weird), letting it be a self reliant breaker for those Pokemon with predictions.
  • Choice Band is the best item to run on Urshifu-R, giving it much more attack to back its strong STAB moves, but while being locked into a move. This makes it more prediction reliant when attacking, but the payoff from the boost in power is well worth it.
  • Adamant Nature gives Urshifu-R a huge power increase, letting it break through normal soft checks like defensive Dragonite easier while dealing more damage to everything overall. Jolly is less powerful but hits a very useful speed benchmark that's above base 95 speed Pokemon with max investment. Outspeeding and revenge killing Tapu Lele and Kyurem while also beating Focus Sash lead Landorus-T is sometimes crucial, making the power drop worth it.

  • Rocky Helmet users are a big issue for Urshifu-R, dealing almost 50% in chip damage if all 3 hits of Surging Strikes connect. Knock Off users that bait in common Rocky Helmet Pokemon can really benefit Urshifu-R trying to continuously U-turn or click its attacks with no drawback. Rillaboom, Kartana, and Tornadus-T all commonly carry Knock Off and bait in Steel-types with Rocky Helmet such as Corviknight and Skarmory even though both Skarmory and Corviknight can run rocky helmet, i kinda have a problem with these mentions since you earlier mentioned urshifu-r could deal with these two so i would suggest changing those mentions at the start or these ones, freeing up Urshifu-R long term. You could mention that Kart and Rilla can also deal with problematic water-types such as slowbro and pex
  • Rain support is incredible for Urshifu-R, powering up its Surging Strikes to incredible levels and letting it revenge kill easier with a stronger Aqua Jet. Pivots such as Tapu Fini, Buzzwole, and specially defensive Toxapex take much more damage in rain making it much less safe to switch them in, meaning Pelipper is great support for it to create rain teams and boost its strength.
  • With Toxapex being one of the hardest obstacles for Urshifu-R to overcome, Future Sight support is incredibly useful for letting Urshifu-R break things it normally can't. Slowking, Galarian Slowking, and Slowbro all give it that extra damage it needs to break through certain walls, making them incredible partners for Urshifu-R.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
====

  • Urshifu-R has the option to run a Bulk Up set, turning it into a set up sweeper to break certain checks. Equipped with Bulk Up and Zen Headbutt i think you should mention Thunder Punch as another option for the last slot in this set. Tpunch deals less damage to toxa (the reason why you run zen headbutt) but avoids being completely walled by slowbro to compliment its dual STAB and Protective Pads to ignore Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs chip it can set up past Pokemon such as Toxapex and Corviknight lacking Brave Bird, but its lack of initial power, pivoting, and priority takes away a lot of its normal strengths.
  • Choice Scarf Urshifu-R can act as a fast revenge killer, using its strong STAB's to take out weakened opponents. This set comes at the cost of a lot of attacking power though, and with Urshifu-R's general goal being to wallbreak it is not extremely recommended.

Checks and Counters
====

**Bulky Water-types**: Toxapex and Slowbro completely wall Choice Band sets lacking Thunder Punch, and they can easily take a Thunder Punch and pivot out if needed. Other Water-types such as Tapu Fini can also check it but as it lacks reliable recovery it can't wall Urshifu-R as well.

**Grass-types**: Defensively, Tangrowth and Amoongus can completely wall Urshifu-R, and offensively Rillaboom and Kartana threaten Urshifu-R with an OHKO from their STAB moves while resisting Surging Strikes and Aqua Jet.

**Fast Wallbreakers** Urshifu-R's speed is fairly average as is its bulk, leaving many strong wallbreakers able to revenge kill it. Zeraora, Tapu Koko, Dragapult, and Tornadus-T all force it to switch out as they easily beat it offensively. Mention that Zeraora and Pult lack recovery so they can get chipped down by urshifu-r's moves and/or hazards

ty for the check, implemented most of the points, but instead of removing the skarm and corv helmet part I added toxapex as well and tried rewording it to make it seem like you can still break them just without the helmet chip as punishment. Not sure on the last part about the mons being chipped by hazards since all 4 listed commonly carry boots and 2 have recovery in roost and regen, but I did add a small mention of zera and pult being chipped regardless.

  • Urshifu-R is a potent wallbreaker in the current metagame, with high base power threatening STAB moves and pivoting in U-turn it can deal big damage to many common defensive Pokemon with the right attacks such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Mandibuzz. i would focus on its pivoting ability first and its wallbreaking second. its ability to force switches, lure in waters/grasses, and pivot out into a threatening teammate is what its niche in this meta is imo. you can mention in a sentence afterward how it can break in offensive mus where the opponent lacks a solid water/fight resist, as well as jet's effectiveness vs boosted threats like volc, chomp, or lucha
  • It has access to some of the strongest priority from its STAB Choice Band Aqua Jet, making it effective at revenge killing weakened opponents who are even faster than it like boosted Volcarona.
  • Its STAB moves, while strong, are resisted by multiple common Pokemon such as Toxapex, Tangrowth, Dragapult, and Slowbro, pult doesn't want to switch into a surging. you can mention tang here instead which limits what it can do offensively in certain match ups. however, it can gain momentum by pivoting out of these into offensive teammates like kart or koko
  • Urshifu-R uses many moves that make contact with the opponent, meaning Rocky Helmet users like Toxapex and Corviknight are able to consistently wear it down through chip damage which in combination with entry hazards can severely hurt its long term success. mention ferro + iron barbs if pivoted safely into surging, as well as static from zapdos
  • Urshifu-R is reliant on Choice Band to do most of its damage, meaning that it can't easily switch into Knock Off and utilize its resist to the move without heavy punishment. another drawback you can optionally mention is that it's prediction reliant. losing momentum on a wall sucks if you choose not to click turn

tpunch provides nowhere near enough utility to justify the use of it over any of these moves, especially u-turn - remove tpunch mentions in the set comments. jolly should be slashed first here as well, as outspeeding things like kyurem, lele, sash lando, exca, timid nidoking, etc is incredibly important and ada takes away most of the benefit that its unique speed tier gives

[SET COMMENTS]

  • optionally mention here how surging strikes' multi hit and crit properties make it a unique tool to break past defense boosters like corv, and break sashes/subs
  • The last move after the basic STAB combination can be dedicated to either U-turn or Thunder Punch, both of which have their benefits. U-turn is a great pivoting move, letting Urshifu-R keep up momentum on walls coming in to beat it. reword this according to new set Thunder Punch instead is able to hit bulky Water-types which are some of its greatest walls, letting it be a more self reliant breaker for those Pokemon with predictions.

  • mention ice punch as a possible move 4 over aqua jet, and its ability to hit dragons potentially wanting to switch in or during a revenge killing scenario (dnite, pult, chomp) as well as somewhat pressuring grasses

  • this section seems really lacking in details. i would mention wallbreakers that urshifu can pivot in for free, including heatran, lele, kyurem, and kart. heatran can also help trap and pressure bulky waters and grasses including pex/slowbro/tang
  • Rocky Helmet users are a big issue for Urshifu-R, dealing almost 50% in chip damage if all 3 hits of Surging Strikes connect. • Surging Strikes has the unique property of being a multi hit move that always crits, being an extremely effective move on Urshifu-R. Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs chip it down as it tries to pivot and deal massive damage every time Surging Strikes is used, and Static has a high change to paralyze it over time which renders it much less effective because its loss of speed control and consistent offensive pressure makes it a significantly worse pivot and wallbreaker.

[Overview]

Urshifu-R is a very potent pivot and wallbreaker in the current metagame, forcing many switches and using U-turn to gain momentum on its common switch-ins such as Toxapex, Slowbro, and Tangrowth, while also dealing big damage with its threatening high power STAB moves to many common defensive Pokemon such as Corviknight, Skarmory, and Mandibuzz. Other defensive cores that are made of bulky Water-types like Slowking and Tapu Fini who are very ineffective against Urshifu-R can be easily taken advantage of by the pivoting and power of Choice Band attacks. I dislike calling them ineffective, but they can be overloaded very easily against Urshifu-R for sure. but It has incredibly strong priority in its STAB Choice Band Aqua Jet, making it effective at revenge killing weakened opponents who are even faster than it like boosted Volcarona. Its STAB moves, while strong, are resisted by multiple common Pokemon such as Toxapex, Tangrowth, and Slowbro, which limits what it can do offensively in certain match ups. However, it can gain momentum by pivoting out of these into offensive teammates like Kartana or Tapu Koko for additional pressure. Urshifu-R uses many moves that make contact with the opponent, with Surging Strikes especially dealing almost 50% against Iron Barbs or Rocky Helmet, meaning Rocky Helmet users like Toxapex and Corviknight are able to consistently wear it down through chip damage which in combination with entry hazards can severely hurt its long term success. Ferrothorn can also pivot into Surging Strikes with although it fears Close Combat, and Static from Zapdos is extremely limiting to Urshifu-R if it gets activated. I don't think this is really necessary. Just saying that it in general is greatly deterred by contact punishment gets the point across; if anything you can compress this into the previous sentence just to keep things more concise and focused. Urshifu-R is reliant on Choice Band to do most of its damage, meaning that it can't switch into Knock Off and utilize its dark resist without heavy punishment. This choice lock also makes it heavily prediction reliant, with Urshifu-R potentially losing momentum against walls if U-turn isn't used to pivot out.

[SET COMMENTS]

Surging Strikes has the unique property of being a multi-hit move that always crits, being an extremely effective move on Urshifu-R. Not necessary. It allows for defense boosts from Pokemon such as Iron Defense Corviknight or Skarmory to be ignored as well as breaking through Substitute and potential Focus Sash. Aqua Jet as priority is great for revenge killing chipped opponents, especially helping in the hyper offense match-up. Frailer Pokemon such as Volcarona, Blacephalon, and Hawlucha all take good damage from Aqua Jet, with the former two being OHKO'd and Hawlucha having a potential sweep stopped when chipped. U-turn is a great pivoting move, letting Urshifu-R keep up momentum on defensive switch-ins walls coming in to beat it and provide wallbreaking opportunities for its teammates offensive switch ins for its strong teammates to break holes. Choice Band is the best item to run on Urshifu-R, giving it much more attack to back its strong STAB moves. This makes it more prediction reliant when attacking, but the payoff from the boost in power is well worth it. I think in general saying that with a Choice Band, its Surging Strikes is becomes a considerably stronger general purpose wallbreaking option that can pressure some resisted targets like Dragapult and Hydreigon. Jolly Nature is less powerful but hits a very useful speed benchmark that's above base 95 speed Pokemon with max investment. Outspeeding and revenge killing Tapu Lele and Kyurem while also beating Focus Sash lead Landorus-T is extremely important in most interactions. You can easily combine this sentence into the previous one to make it less vague and to create a greater sense of flow. Adamant nature gives Urshifu-R much harder hits overall, letting it break through normal soft checks like defensive Dragonite easier while dealing more damage as a whole, but missing out on its crucial speed tier. Urshifu-R has an incredibly hard time against defensive Dragonite even with Adamant, so this is a really awkward example that I think should be replaced. Ice Punch can be used over Aqua Jet, giving it a very hard hit on Dragon-types trying to pivot into it and scout which move it uses such as Garchomp, Dragonite, and Dragapult. It also gives a decently strong hit against Grass-types without having the defense lowering drawback and immunity in Ghost-types that Close Combat has. Any particular targets

With Urshifu-R acting as a very strong pivot with U-turn, many powerful wallbreakers appreciate its presence. Heatran, Kartana, Kyurem, and Tapu Lele can be given free switch ins and threaten out checks to Urshifu-R such as Slowbro, Tangrowth, and Toxapex with their own powerful attacks. I feel like I'd like to see an extra mention to Heatran which can easily use its U-turns as a Magma Storm opportunity, which can be an incredible form of progress that can actually help Urshifu-R in of itself. Rocky Helmet users are a big issue for Urshifu-R, dealing almost 50% in chip damage if all 3 hits of Surging Strikes connect. Knock Off users that bait in common Rocky Helmet Pokemon can really benefit Urshifu-R trying to continuously U-turn or click its attacks with no drawback. Rillaboom, Kartana, and Tornadus-T all commonly carry Knock Off and bait in Rocky Helmet users such as Toxapex, Corviknight, and Skarmory, freeing up Urshifu-R to break them or U-turn without punishment. Rain support provided by Pelipper is incredible for Urshifu-R, powering up its Surging Strikes to incredible levels and letting it revenge kill easier with a stronger Aqua Jet. For example, defensive checks Pivots such as Tapu Fini, Buzzwole, and specially defensive Toxapex are much less safe switch ins with rain up, meaning Pelipper is great support for it. I would not at all call Tapu Fini or Buzzwole pivots, as their purely defensive variants can be major momentum saps. Reworded this sentence a bit to help make it more clear while retaining flow and not becoming superfluous. Future Sight support is incredibly useful for letting Urshifu-R break things it normally can't such as Toxapex, Tangrowth, and Amoonguss which are some of its best counters. Slowking, Galarian Slowking, and Slowbro all give it that extra damage it needs to break through certain walls, making them incredible partners for Urshifu-R. Again, this is just something you can compress into the previous sentence.

I feel like I'd like to see one or two Pokemon that can actually provide it with wallbreaking opportunities in of itself; mainly, Dragapult. Dragapult is an amazing teammate as something that can pivot against special walls like Blissey and Mandibuzz while applying incredible pressure to Slowbro and helping to overload temporary checks like Tapu Fini. In my eyes it's one of its best team partners and is something I'd really like to see here.

Urshifu-R has the option to run a Bulk Up set, turning it into a set up sweeper to break certain checks. I think it's less that it can break certain checks and more just that it can boast the strength of its Choice Banded variant without being relegated to a Choice Lock. A definite win condition but one that still needs prior breaking support to operate to its fullest. Equipped with Bulk Up and Zen Headbutt or Thunder Punch to compliment its dual STAB and Protective Pads to ignore Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs chip it can set up past Pokemon such as Toxapex and Corviknight lacking Brave Bird, but its lack of initial power, pivoting, and priority takes away a lot of its normal strengths. Protective Pads with 4 attacks can also be used, letting Urshifu-R freely pivot with U-turn and use Surging Strikes without fear of contact effects. The power drop is massive, though, limiting it as a breaker overall. When is this loss of power relevant? Choice Scarf Urshifu-R can act as a fast revenge killer, using its strong STAB's to take out weakened opponents. This set comes at the cost of a lot of attacking power though, and with Urshifu-R's general goal being to wallbreak it is not extremely recommended.

Checks and Counters
====

**Bulky Water-types**: Toxapex and Slowbro completely wall Choice Band sets lacking Thunder Punch, and they can easily take a Thunder Punch and pivot out if needed. Other Water-types such as Tapu Fini can also check it but as it lacks reliable recovery it can't wall Urshifu-R in the long term. as well.

**Grass-types**: Defensively, Tangrowth and Amoongus can completely wall Urshifu-R, and offensively Rillaboom and Kartana threaten Urshifu-R with an OHKO from their STAB moves while resisting Surging Strikes and Aqua Jet.

**Contact Effects**: Rocky Helmet, Ferrothorn's Iron Barbs, and Zapdos' Static are all extremely harmful to Urshifu-R due to its multi hit contact Surging Strikes as well as its heavy use of U-turn. We know what paralysis does.

**Fast Wallbreakers** Urshifu-R's speed is fairly average as is its bulk, leaving many strong wallbreakers able to revenge kill it. Its physical bulk is actually well above average, you can just say its vulnerability to common offensive typing and mediocre special bulk to be more specific and accurate. Zeraora, Tapu Koko, Dragapult, and Tornadus-T all force it to switch out as they easily beat it offensively.

Urshifu-R is a very potent wallbreaker and pivot in the metagame, being able to force switches and threaten common Pokemon like Corviknight, Skarmory, and Mandibuzz while pivoting on checks to its STAB moves such as Toxapex, Slowbro, and Tangrowth. I've implemented all of this for now, I just wanted to make sure of these 2 points for the future since this sounds a little off when reading it out. I thought plural "switch-ins" read better here because it can happen multiple times, or alternatively it could be "given a free switch in". I don't know which is correct between the 2 or if this initial change is already correct technically, so I just wanted to double check this first, but ty for the check!
