Project USUM PU Victim of the Week [Week 22: Clefairy, Submission Phase]

#1
Approved by Anty, galbia and Megazard
OP adapted from OU VotW
Taken over from Taskr

amazing artwork by Anty

The idea of this project is to collect some of the most common top-tier threats in the PU metagame and discover Pokémon that can either check or counter them!

Every week I will nominate a Pokémon, in 4 days you guys will have the ability to discuss and nominate various Pokémon that you think can either check or counter the Victim of the Week.
After 4 days have passed, submissions will close and voting will begin. You will vote for your 2 favorite checks and 2 favorite counters, and will have 3 days to do so.
I will archive the results and the process will continue week after week.

1. Follow the definitions for checks and counters in The Smog issue #32.

2. Focus on posting PU-viable Pokemon and sets listed in the SM PU Viability Rankings Thread. Nominations of Pokemon not listed in the rankings is allowed, provided that it is backed up by a replay of the Pokemon in action.

3. Note that we require an explanation and set for the Pokemon that you posted. Of course we're not asking you to write a thesis but a paragraph of about 3 sentences on why your chosen Pokemon works will be sufficient.

4. If you want a sprite, just copy and paste the following line, replacing 'pokemon' with whatever you want.

HTML:
http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xy/pokemon.gif
5. We allow reservation of Pokemon in this thread. However, please write up your post within 24 hours of the reservation. This is to ensure that the project doesn't become a race of who gets to reserve the best check / counter first. After 24 hours has elapsed and you still have not typed it out, your reservation will be nullified.

6. Different sets of the same Pokemon can be nominated. For example, person a) can nominate Choice Specs Mesprit as a check to something, while person b) can nominate Defensive Mespirit as a counter to the same thing in the same week.

7. Help people out if you think they're wrong, but please be nice.

8. Post calcs if not obvious.

9. Have fun!

Checks and counters are ordered voted 1st to voted 3rd. A slash indicates a tie for a given spot.

Modest Nature

- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb

This guzzlord set eats +1 life orb giga drains for days and it ohkos after 1 life orb hit. Guzzlord is a counter.

+1 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 196 SpD Guzzlord: 131-155 (22.3 - 26.4%) -- 12.7% chance to 4HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Guzzlord Fire Blast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 272-322 (96.7 - 114.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO - OHKO after Life Orb damage

Okay so the first Victim is Quiver Dance Lilligant!

Lilligant (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Lilligant makes for a potent set-up sweeper with moves like Quiver Dance and Sleep Powder that can make it difficult to beat.
Tell me some ways to Check or Counter this Pokemon!

Drampa @ Leftovers
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Roost
- Calm Mind
- Dragon Pulse
- Fire Blast

Lilligant can't touch Drampa at all and Drampa clicks Fire Blast or starts setting up on it.

Primeape @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- U-turn
- Gunk Shot
- Stone Edge

Primeape functions as an offensive check to Lilligant. Being able to outspeed Lilligant at +1 means that Primeape can switch into either a Quiver Dance or Sleep Powder (if running Vital Spirit) and OHKO Lilligant with Gunk Shot, though it does have to worry about switching into a Giga Drain as it does 70-80% and also missing Gunk Shot.

Charizard @ Normalium Z
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Celebrate
- Roost
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast

ye ye zard is an offensive counter to any Lilligant set without Z Hyper Beam or Hidden Power Rock. It can easily set up on Lilligant with Z Celebrate, and can Roost pretty freely. The only thing Lilligant can do is put it to sleep, and even with that it still can't even do anything to it. Standard Lilligant really has no way to hit Charizard and becomes setup fodder to it.

Exeggutor-Alola @ Dragonium Z / Life Orb
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
IVs: 0 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Trick Room
- Draco Meteor
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
Specs Exeggutor-A also works but I chose this because its slightly bulkier. Exeggutor-A is immune to Sleep Powder, will take nothing from Giga Drain and a +1 Hidden Power Fire is not likely to 2HKO even after Stealth Rocks, you can just set Trick Room or OHKO it with Devastating Drake, if Life Orb is used you need some Rocks damage to ensure Draco Meteor is a OHKO, but its like almost always after Life Orb recoil. If Lilligant even tries to set up multiples on Exeggutor-A it will still beat it since Flamethrower into Draco Meteor will KO Lilligant after some Life Orb recoil / Stealth Rock, and Lilligant would need to get to +5 to at least have a low chance to OHKO Exeggutor-A without Rocks. And that's why Exeggutor-A is a good check to Lilligant.
+1 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Hidden Power Fire vs. 212 HP / 4 SpD Exeggutor-Alola: 143-169 (37.2 - 44%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Hidden Power Fire vs. 212 HP / 4 SpD Exeggutor-Alola: 191-225 (49.7 - 58.5%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO
+3 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Hidden Power Fire vs. 212 HP / 4 SpD Exeggutor-Alola: 238-281 (61.9 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 288-339 (102.4 - 120.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Exeggutor-Alola Flamethrower vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 231-273 (82.2 - 97.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Flamethrower vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 178-210 (63.3 - 74.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Flamethrower vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 134-158 (47.6 - 56.2%) -- 80.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Exeggutor-Alola Flamethrower vs. +3 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 108-128 (38.4 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

Turtonator @ White Herb
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse
- Shell Smash

Hard Check / Counter
Turt takes absolutely nothing from even boosted Drain or HP Fire, can set up on Lilli, and proceed to eventually kill it with Fire Blasts. All Lilligant can really do is put Turt to sleep, start spamming QD and hoped it spammed enough times that it eats a Fire Blast and repeats the process until Drain kills it (which is doesn't even kill at +6 After rocks), however, this requires a ton of luck (actually hitting Sleep Powder multiple times, possible Fire Blast missses, Sleep turns), making Turt a great hard check if not counter.

Calcs:
252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Turtonator: 40-48 (15.3 - 18.3%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Turtonator: 60-71 (22.9 - 27.2%) -- 55.1% chance to 3HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Turtonator: 81-95 (31 - 36.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Turtonator Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 356-420 (126.6 - 149.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Turtonator Fire Blast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 236-282 (83.9 - 100.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Turtonator Fire Blast vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 180-212 (64 - 75.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Turtonator Fire Blast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 474-560 (168.6 - 199.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Munchlax @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Body Slam
- Curse / Toxic
- Sleep Talk
- Rest

Due to how bulky Munchlax is, it takes almost zero damage from any of Lilligant's best attacks, even when boosted. It can retort by using something like Sleep Talk on a predicted Sleep Powder or just by Body Slamming it or Toxicing it in general. Probably one of the best Checks or even Counters available and no I don't have a boner for this mon.

Magmortar @ Assault Vest
Ability: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Focus Blast

Hard Counter
Magmortar takes almost nothing form hp fire or giga drain, can't be put to sleep, and fires off a powerful fire blast back. At the end of the day there is nothing Lilligant can do outside of switching out and letting something catch a fire blast. Due to it's ability to tank any hit from Lili easily, and the fact it can't be put to sleep, I'd say Magmortar isn't just a counter, it's a hard counter.

Calcs:
252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Magmortar: 49-58 (13.8 - 16.3%) -- possible 5HKO after Stealth Rock
+1 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Magmortar: 74-87 (20.9 - 24.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Magmortar: 99-117 (27.9 - 33%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 486-572 (172.9 - 203.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 324-384 (115.3 - 136.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. +2 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 242-288 (86.1 - 102.4%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Magmortar Fire Blast vs. +3 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 194-230 (69 - 81.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Oricorio @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Dancer
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Hurricane
- Revelation Dance
- U-turn/Roost
pretty simple set it counters lilligant and threatens it out with unboosted stab hurricanes. edit: forgot it had ability dancer which when lilligant quiver dances oricorio gets free boost
calcs: 252 SpA Oricorio-Fire Hurricane vs. +1 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 252-296 (89.6 - 105.3%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
252 SpA Oricorio-Fire Hurricane vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Lilligant: 372-440 (132.3 - 156.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
I don't show lilligant calcs because it can't touch it no matter how many boost it get even with sleep powder. roost helps against sleep powder antics and is a good recover option for oricorio as well.

I'd just like to point out that Oricorio has Dancer, if Lilligant uses Quiver Dancer, it's just helping Oricorio and its never being faster or doing more damage to it if you switch in directly

Rapidash @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Morning Sun
- Will-O-Wisp
- Flare Blitz
- Low Kick/ Wild Charge
Offensive Check

This is more or less a meme check but it can still get the job done as its the only fire type with a natural recovery move that isn't 4x weak to rocks meaning it can more easily continually switch into Lilligant throughout a battle. Rapidash with Safety Goggles equipped easily switches into any Lilligant with the exception of Z Hyper Beam and still maintain offensive pressure. Rapidash also has a couple of other cute properties outside of checking Lilligant. Thanks to Flash Fire it can force predictions against a choice locked Charizard or Pyroar as well as check scary Ice types like Abomasnow very well. Wisp also provides great utility in preventing mons like SD Lycanroc from setting up and crippling Sucker Punch users like Absol and Skuntank. Wild Charge hits water types and Charizard while Low Kick hits Piloswine and the two Dragons.

http://www.smogon.com/dex/media/sprites/xy/type_null.gif

Type: Null @ Eviolite
Ability: Battle Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Return
- Swords Dance

Null can come in freely on a sleep powder due to sleep talk or on a quiver dance.

+1 252 SpA Life Orb Lilligant Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 200+ SpD Eviolite Type: Null: 110-133 (27.9 - 33.7%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO

0 Atk Type: Null Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lilligant: 135-159 (48 - 56.5%) -- 85.9% chance to 2HKO

+2 0 Atk Type: Null Return vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Lilligant: 267-315 (95 - 112%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO

Null is a check because it can lose 1v1 to lilligant depending on sleep talk rolls. If null comes in already asleep it has a much better chance of winning.

Checks: Rapidash (mainly because that set is fire, literally) and Type-Null (even though I'd actually consider this more a counter, but solid suggestion)

Counters: Drampa (this is one of the best offensive checks to Lilligant in the tier currently) and Guzzlord (mainly because Magmortar struggles against a +1 Z-Hyper Beam and Guzzlord doesn't)

Okay voting is done!
here are the winners:

Next mon:

Archeops
Ability: Defeatist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Roost
- Taunt
- Earthquake

Archeops is one of the top tier threats in PU. Base 140 Attack combined with STAB Acrobatics and utility moves like Taunt and Roost can make Archeops a hard Pokemon to Check and Counter.

really good check

Piloswine @ Eviolite
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock

basically pilo can either instantly put archeops in defeatist range with ice shard, OHKO it with icicle crash, or get up rocks. best thing archeops can do is 3hko it if it's not in defeatist

252+ Atk Piloswine Ice Shard vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 170-204 (58.4 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Piloswine Icicle Crash vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Archeops: 362-428 (124.3 - 147%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Archeops Acrobatics (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Eviolite Piloswine: 153-181 (37.8 - 44.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 Atk Archeops Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 56+ Def Regirock: 112-132 (30.7 - 36.2%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
