STAB, or same-type attack bonus, is an important part of Pokémon battling. It grants is a 1.5x bonus to the damage of same-typed moves. In this tournament, STAB moves are banned. This screws up the common thinking of teambuilding in Pokémon, as the vast majority of Pokemon use STAB moves. What will be viable and what will be left in the dust due to this change? Let's find out!
Specific Rules:
- Anything that can become a STAB move at any point in that match is banned on that Pokémon.
- Both attacking and status moves apply to the above rule. (e.g. no Soft Boiled on Blissey.)
- For Mega Evolutions and other forme changes, if a move is STAB at any point in the game (before Mega Evolution, before changing formes, et cetera), it is not allowed.
- Moves that have changed type to become STAB through abilities are banned (Pixilate, Liquid Voice, etc.)
- Protean and Color Change are banned.
- Reflect Type, Camouflauge, Conversion, Conversion2 are banned.
- Trick-or-Treat, Forest's Curse, and Soak are banned.
- Natural Gift, Nature Power, and Hidden Power are allowed as long as they are not STAB.
- Steel moves on Dhelmise are not allowed.
- Please don't try to game the system.
- This is a BO1 tournament format.
- Replays are required. It doesn’t matter whether it is posted on the thread, or sent to me in PM. Replays must be public or your win will not count.
- Sleep Clause: If a player has already put an opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep inducing move and that Pokémon is still sleeping due to that sleep inducing move, the player cannot put another opposing Pokémon to sleep using a sleep inducing move.
- Species Clause: A player cannot have two of the same species of Pokémon on their team, based on the National Pokedex Number. For example, a player cannot have two Koffing on his or her team.
- Evasion Clause: Players cannot use Double Team or Minimize in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
- OHKO Clause: Players cannot use Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, or Fissure in any of their Pokémon's movesets.
- Timer Clause: If a player exhausts the timer, he/she loses.
