Project UU ArcheTYPE Cores - Week 6: Normal/Psychic/Steel [Submissions]

Approved by the UU Moderation Team | Art by the amazing lei | Co-host with Monky25 | Idea and OP from NU

Hello, everyone! We're pleased to announce the start of a brand new project in the UU Forums! Welcome to ArcheTYPE Cores!
What is this project?

Cores are a conjunction of Pokemon or types that have great synergy together, be it offensive or defensive. Some well-known cores are Fire-Water-Grass (FWG), Psychic-Dark-Fighting (PDF), and Steel-Dragon-Fairy (SDF). These cores are capable of handling each other's weaknesses and wear down each other's resistances well and thus are commonly seen together. The project will be mostly focused on type affiliations and type synergy rather than matchups against specific Pokemon (e.g. "Amoonguss switches into Fighting-type attacks" rather than "Amoonguss switches into Keldeo").

How does it work?

Every week we will submit a three-type core for you to build with. Keep in mind that we will try to make the types as synergetic as possible, but some will be more than others. We may also ask for you to build an offensive, defensive, or balanced core including said types! Pay attention when we do!
Submit your cores! You will have four days to do so. Starting from Wednesday and ending on Sunday.
After the submission cycle has passed, voting for the best cores will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Everyone is allowed 2 votes, but you may not vote for the same person twice. For the case that only 5 cores were submitted, everyone can only vote for 1 core.

What are the rules?

Your core MUST have all three types chosen for that week and it MUST have 3 different Pokemon
Pokemon in your core may share a type as long as they represent that week's types.
For example, if the weekly core is Fire/Water/Grass, you may use
as long as Chandelure represents your core's Fire-type and Volcanion represents the core's Water-type.
You may only post one core per week.
Your core will be disqualified if it is the same or too similar to someone else's core.
You may reserve cores as long as you submit them under 48h of your reservation. Otherwise they will be announced as up for reservation.
You must explain how your core works and why it is a good core. 3-5 lines are ideal.
Prove to us that your core works. Replays and functioning teams are a great way to show that.
Resources
You may use the skeleton below to structure your posts if you wish to. Just make sure your post is clear and easily readable.
Code:
[hide=Core]
:xy/pokemon1: :xy/pokemon2: :xy/pokemon3:
[hide=Sets]
copypaste your core's sets here
[/hide]
[hide=Description]
Explain here why your core is good, why we should use it, etc
[/hide]
[/hide]

To insert mini sprites of a Pokemon, use
Code:
:pokemon:
So for example, if we use
Code:
:snorlax:
We'd get :snorlax:

If you like using the Generation 8 minisprites like these
, you can use this site: https://fulllifegames.com/Tools/SpriteConverter/. Make sure to spell the Pokémon's name capitalized and then just choose the Sprites option. The sprite already comes out in BBCode form, you just need to copy and paste.

For a Pokemon's sprite, you can use the following code depending on what sprite you want:
Code:
:rb/pokemon: :gs/pokemon: :rs/pokemon: :dp/pokemon: :bw/pokemon: :xy/pokemon:
For example, if we use
Code:
:rb/snorlax: :gs/snorlax: :rs/snorlax: :dp/snorlax: :bw/snorlax: :xy/snorlax:
We'd get :rb/snorlax: :gs/snorlax: :rs/snorlax: :dp/snorlax: :bw/snorlax: :xy/snorlax:

Gen 7 and 8 Pokemon also work with the :xy/pokemon: code
Code:
:xy/lycanroc-dusk: :xy/ninetales-alola: :xy/slowbro-galar:
:xy/lycanroc-dusk::xy/ninetales-alola: :xy/slowbro-galar:

Most importantly, have fun and experiment!

Week 1
FireIC Big.png
WaterIC Big.png
GrassIC Big.png

Starting up our first week, we'd like you guys to build a core centered around the classic typing of Fire/Water/Grass! This is the most famous core out there, so we decided it would be ideal for our first week. We all know the type chart by heart at this point, so I won't go into the nitty gritty, but this core has some amazing synergy when pure, and with dual typings added, it can become even stronger!

Here's a list of viable Pokémon you can use for this week

Fire

Water

Grass

You have until March 28th to submit your core!

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spore
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Foul Play

Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Pain Split
- Toxic

Milotic (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Marvel Scale
EVs: 248 HP / 144 Def / 104 SpD / 12 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Flip Turn
- Ice Beam
- Recover

This FWG core is a fun BO/Balance pivot core that covers a lot of top tier threats. Amoonguss helps with Scizor, Zeraora, Keldeo, Kommo-o, as well as gives the core and teams a Knock absorber, which is important, especially considering the other have boots they like to keep. Rotom-Heat helps check Scizor as well, helps with Electrics, functions as a flying resist, ground immunity, fire resist, and can help break down Kommo-o with Toxic. You can also run Defog on Rotom-Heat, but please don't unless you absolutely have to because Defog Oven is bad. Finally, Milotic helps with Zam, Moltres-Galar, Special Kommo-o, Aegislash, and forms a pivoting core with Rotom-Heat. Milotic can help stomach physical (if status'd) and special hits for Amoonguss and Rotom-Heat, as well as help keep Fire and Dragon types in check.

(Click for link)

While everyone knows I'm not the most prolific builder, but this team gives a workable example of how this core works and supports a team. Built back when the Aegi suspect began, It features SD Aegislash paired with Milotic to hit Mence and Amoonguss/Tangrowth with ice beam in order to make SD Aegi's life easier. Krook and Mence gave hazards and speed control (Scarf Rocks Krook :[ ), and Heatom and Amoonguss help keep Scizor/Kommo-o/Zeraora in check. Aegislash and Mence really appreciate Amoonguss being able to absorb Knock Offs, and overall, while SD Aegislash has now been found to be steaming garbage, the core compliments the rest of the team and more than fulfils it's purpose.

Primarina @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Scald

Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Overheat
- Defog
- Pain Split

Zarude @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Power Whip
- Darkest Lariat
- Jungle Healing
- U-turn

A more offensive FWG core that uses primarina as a breaker, zarude as speed control, and rotom heat as a defensive pivot. Primarina is stupid strong with stab hydro pump and moonblast coming off specs 126 special attack with max sp attack ev's and modest, it can evem break through some resisted pokemon due to them being unable to sustain multiple attacks such as rotom heat coming in on moonblast, or nidoqueen who has no recovery and relies on its natural bulk. Rotom heat acts as the ground immunity of the core, and allows primarina to come in safely via a volt switch. Rotom heat can also keep hazards off for primarina as it appreciates not being chipped a lot and forcing it to conserve its hp more. Zarude acts as the revenge killer of the team and another pivot. Using its bulk to come in on pokemon such as rotom wash, krook, tang, aegi, etc

:ss/chandelure: :ss/tapu-bulu: :ss/slowking:
Tapu Bulu @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Trick

Slowking @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Scald
- Future Sight
- Slack Off
- Teleport

This is a Balanced core that has a main breaker (chandy), speed control (Scarf bulu), and a defensive pivot (slowking). They cover the meta fairly well, especially since chandy absolutely destroys all of the defensive mons that prevent a bulu clean-up, as we all know broken slowking is the glue needed to make the other two work as they lack momentum grabbing moves.
It is very straightforward and yeah its kinda cool I like it.

Chandelure @ Choice Specs
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Trick

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Defog
- Will-O-Wisp

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Relaxed Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Knock Off

A really solid core I have been using on bulky offense teams as of late. Rotom-W and Tangrowth is a great defensive core, being able to take care of each other's answers with washtom answering fire types while tang answers grass and electric types. Washtom is able to provide momentum with volt switch as well and can help provide utility in defog and will-o-wisp to help tang take physical attacks better. I like these two a lot because not only do they act as the defensive backbone to the team, they aren't passive at all and will apply pressure courtesy of their high attacking stats. However, both struggle with Pokemon like amoonguss, so I added Chandelure. Specs Chandelure is a lethal wallbreaker and if it gets in it is basically getting a kill. Washtom can lure in the grass types for chandelure to nuke and provide defog support to clear stealth rocks as well. All 3 of these Pokemon pair well together, creating a strong FWG core that covers nearly the entire metagame

Incineroar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 244 SpD / 12 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Overheat
- Knock Off
- Will-O-Wisp
- Parting Shot

Keldeo @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Flip Turn

Tapu Bulu @ Life Orb
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Horn Leech
- Close Combat
- High Horsepower

This core is based around two pivots, one offensive (Choice Scarf Keldeo) and one defensive (Incineroar) that can bring in Bulu and allow it to set up. Bulu also benefits Incin and Keldeo by setting up Grassy Terrain, which provides both of these mons with a form of recovery.

Reserving Heattom/Crawdaunt/Tangrowth!

:bw/rotom-heat: :bw/Crawdaunt: :bw/Tangrowth:

This core features two really solid pivots in Rotom-H and Tangrowth, being able to cover a lot of bases when paired together, and a personal favourite of mine being Crawdaunt. Rotom-Heat brings a lot of good things to the table: Volt Switch, a check to Scizor and a way of getting rid of problematic Grass and Steel types for Crawdaunt. Tangrowth provides a great switch-in to some of the tiers scariest offensive powers like Zeraora, Primarina, Krookodile and Lycanroc-D. Onto Crawdaunt, the Swords Dance set can be terrifying once it's stops are gone. Guess what these two help with? If you guessed Crawdaunt's checks and counters, then you'd be correct! Not even Amoonguss is safe from +2 Crawdaunt, OHKOing with Knock (though you'd much rather just Overheat it and make Mushroom Steak with it).

(click the team for the link!)

The core struggles a little bit with Salamence, unless you get the 45% role on +1 Knock with Crawdaunt, So i wanted Rhyperior to help out with that, as well as provide an Electric immunity and Stealth Rocks. Both Alakazam and Kyurem are super good in the current meta and work together to make teams fold with Crawdaunt and can also use Tangrowth and Rotom to fall back onto when having to face threats like Scizor, Lycanroc-D and Krookodile.

An FWG core focused on getting Chandelure in repeatedly to hammer the opposing team. Primarina is a pretty threatening presence on the field, with both of its STABs dealing heavy damage to almost anything but bulky Grass, Water and Steel types. This is where Flip Turn comes in, capitalizing on the opponent's switch to their defensive Pokemon to bring out Chandelure safely. With Choice Specs and 145 base SpA, Chandelure can put immense pressure on the opposing team, forcing switches and dismantling defensive cores along the way. Alternatively, Amoongus can be brought in to fire off a free Spore. Defensively speaking, Primarina has quite a bit of SpD already, enough to tank most non-supereffective hits, and can use Encore to great effect against hyperoffense, stopping any set-up in its tracks. Amoongus takes the physical hits that Chandelure and Primarina cannot, covers Primarina's Electric weakness, and provides the core with some staying power against bulkier teams.

This is the truest backbone of any Double Weather core team clearly. Torkoal sets up sun for you sun mons, in particular Venusaur. But wait! Politoed sets up the RAIN. Why are you using rain? Well, a few reasons. First off, Venusaur in rain is still quite good, and gets a Water Weather Ball to hit fire guys. More importantly though, the team you are able to build around this can be so jangy, as you can add things like Charizard, Seismitoad, Thundurus, Tornadus, Kyurem, Raikou, and many other things that can take advantage of Weather Ball also. And just wait until Barraskewda comes back into the tier next week too. It will be a fun fun time.

Voting is up! As Bandkrook's cohost I'll be making the post for this week, but first congrats to HydreigonTheChild for winning the week with their core! It will be added to the hall of fame shortly. Now, let me introduce the types for this week!

1617163991197.png
1617163972882.png

That's right, this week will be the mighty steel-dragon-fairy core! This core is a super solid core in the metagame right now, being able to cover the types that threaten the other teamates. Both steels and fairies cover other dragons for the Dragon-Type while steels also help with poisons for fairies and fairies help with fighters for steels. Dragons can also take care of types like Fire that threaten steels. Overall these are all super solid types to synergize, so lets see what cores can be come up with. Down below is a list of viable Pokemon that can be used for the week.

1617164701260.png

You have until April 3rd to submit your core! Also, ignore the upcoming tier changes when submitting and voting for this week. For example, if I submit something with Skarmory and it rises I can keep it and it still can be voted for during the voting stage. Now, lets get to it!

:ss/aegislash-blade: :ss/salamence: :ss/sylveon:
Aegislash @ Spell Tag
Ability: Stance Change
EVs: 40 Atk / 252 SpA / 216 Spe
Rash Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Flash Cannon
- Close Combat
- Shadow Sneak

Salamence @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 64 Def / 252 SpA / 192 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hurricane
- Flamethrower
- Roost
- Defog

Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell

The special attacking trio with some terrific defensive utility, sylveon works as a scouter and blanket check to primarina, keldeo and every dragon type in the tier and it gives wish support to aegi and mence which helps them to do a better job at countering alakazam and scizor respectively, it also carries heal bell since they are all vulnerable to status.
Aegislash and Mence overwhelm the opposing defense as they make a really god job at breaking double regen cores, and something like chansey isnt able to stop them thanks to CC, all of this while not being very vulnerable to offense thanks to mence's good speed tier, shadow sneak priority and their impressive bulk for offensive mons.
