despite it actually being Monday, Krookodile has won! onto our first Pokemon of the drops!

Week 25 - Defensive Swampert!

:ss/swampert:

Swampert @ Leftovers
Ability: Damp
EVs: 244 HP / 24 Atk / 240 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Flip Turn
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock

Swampert's defensive capabilities come alive with this set, getting 3HKO'd by Max Attack Excadrill and always claiming it with Earthquake (as well as doing 69% minimum to uninvested Aegislash, nice). Swampert makes for an amazing Stealth Rock setter, being able to lure in Grass-types and either Toxic them or Flip Turn out into something that takes advantage of them. What exactly does pair well with Swampert though? that's for you to find out, 5 days to submit!

:Moltres:
Moltres @ Heavy duty-boots
Ability: Flame body
EVs: 252 Sp.atk/ 252 Speed / 4 HP
Timid Nature
Moves: Flamethrower
Hurricane
Roost
Scorching Sands/ U-turn

Now for the partner of swampert we have Moltres. Along with the four times resistance to grass moves it also appreciates the rock resistance provided by swampert. Swampert can lure in grasses and bring in moltres for pressuring the grasses, it's Quadruplet grass weakness is also terrific. Moltres can also use u turn in the last slot to form a core that can highly pressure the opponent especially with the rocks provided by swampert. Moltres also loves the safe switches swampert provides with it's slow flip turn which makes up for the lack of moltres' relevant resistance outside of grass, ground and fairy. This is a nice pairing in my opinion.

Roserade @ Black Sludge
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Spe / 8 Def
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Spikes
- Synthesis / Sleep Powder / Stun Spore / Aromatherapy

Roserade and her fifty potential EV spreads - I've put the analysis spread here for simplicity's sake, but feel free to run more SpA or more bulk - have been taking the meta by Leaf Storm recently, and a x4 Grass-resistant Spiker that's immune to Toxic (and can carry Aromatherapy) happens to pair very well with a x4 Grass-weak Rocker that hates Toxic, so here she is. =) Toss in any of the Fires that'll be posted here and you'll have a solid bulky FWG core.

Rotom-Heat @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Defog
- Pain Split

Standard pivot Rotom-H. Comes in on grass types ok, forms a volt-turn core with swampert (and probably like a zarude to patch up the weakness to water, give yourself another grass resist, form a hot fwg core). It has defog utility here but if you have it somewhere else on your team you can sub defog out for toxic to give it something to do to opposing swamperts.

:skarmory:
Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Spikes
- Iron Defense
- Roost

So defensively these synergize amazingly. With pert absorbing electric and fire moves and skarm coming in on grass types types. They are able to set up hazards on each others checks and counters and skarm can utilize Swampert's chip damage from rocks + toxic to work as a really powerful late game cleaner with iron defense. Relatively simple but super effective in practice. Skarm can also run defog over spikes if you need hazard removal or really anything in that 4th slot, it's up to what your team needs. Definitely recommend pairing this with frailer, storng breakers as it's a super consistent backbone to fall back on and supports them well with spikes/flip turn.

let me know what you think :D

Firstly , I would like to cover the a hazard core involving swampert and skarmory . The basic idea of this core is to defensively cover each others weaknesses and simultaniously lay down entry hazards on the feild . Swampert gets access to stealth rocks as its entry hazard and a slow flip turn to nearly guarantee offensive momentum . Whereas skarmory gets access to spikes as its entry hazards and roost for reliable recovery to potentially come back in to do something . It also has whirlwind as its shuffling move to keep forcing out the opponents , messing up their positioning and potentially racking up some lethal chip damage on the opponent . This core also has a great defensive synergy as they cover each other's weaknesses . As we may know by now , swampert's only weakness is grass type , and skarmory is great sponge for grass type moves by virtue of its quad resistant typing . And skarmory's main weaknesses being fire and electric can be easily covered by switching into swampert as swampert resists fire and is fully immune to eletric . Now this core may have a couple of weaknesses such as mons which hold the HDB ( Heavy-duty boots ) or some brutal wall breakers how can power through both these defensive pokemon such as guts conkeldurr or sword dance diggersby ( with fire punch ) . So to help deal with these problems you can add more pokemon to this core who can deal with these strong wall breakers by out-offensing them , pressuring deffogers and spreading knock offs . I have been testing Guts Heracross with this core and it seemed to be thoroughly excellent at complementing these cores and help handle their weaknesses . It is an extremely lethal wall breakers ( whose threat level is furthur amplified by hazards ) who forces switches very easily and pummels a large part of the tier . It can also be used with SD to pummel through even its resists with its strong STAB moves . It can also guarentee a 2-Hit-KO against mandibuzz ( soon to be the best deffoger ) which is quite the merit . It could however struggle against moltres who runs an offensive and defensive set ( hard to differentiate between eachother ) and moltres can potentially live a +2 guts boosted knock off barely and can eaither snipe heracross or defog hazards . And the fully offensive variant may just outspeed and kill herra . But you can just go swampert and handle it by using toxic and then spamming the stealth rocks as it defogs , effectively winning the hazard war . Although if herracross is not ur taste then you can also use other knock off spammers to get rid of opposing heavy-duty boots and put the hazards layed into good use .

Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to submit for the project! Unfortunately, someone has already reserved skarmory to be a partner with it so unless they forget to do their reservation Skarmory doesn’t count (also, you can only submit one partner). I’ll let Heracross stay for now since I believe it has good enough assets to be somewhat viable but you can change it if you wish!

Banned deucer.
:ss/nidoking:
Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Fire Blast/Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power

Swampert fits very well on balance and bulky-offensive teams thanks to its Stealth Rock that can chip down opposing teams for offensive Pokémon to break through more easily. Additionally, Swampert is an amazing pivot that can safely bring in powerful wallbreakers such as Nidoking after luring in defensive Pokémon like Aegislash, Tangrowth, Celesteela and Amoonguss.

Nidoking’s strongest STAB move, Sludge Wave, in combination with Ice Beam at least 2HKOs the top-tier Grass-type Pokémon that can OHKO Swampert, including Amoonguss, Roserade, Tapu Bulu and Tangrowth. Nidoking threatens Pokémon that take advantage of Swampert’s passiveness, namely Swords Dance Aegislash, Moltres-Galar, Calm Mind Primarina, Kommo-O and Spikes Roserade. Fire Blast 2HKOs Steel-types like Jirachi and Celesteela, which are immune to Swampert’s Toxic. Swampert also appreciates Nidoking absorbing Toxic Spikes as its lack of reliable recovery makes it very susceptible to being shut down by Toxic.

And now..The moment you've all (probably only some of you) have been waiting for...

MATCHMAKING RETURNS! HUZZAH!

Week 26 - Excadrill

:ss/excadrill:

For this very special return, I'll actually be letting you pick which set for Excadrill you'd like to use out of SD and Utility! Excadrill, as previously telegraphed, has become a top pick in our metagame with the ability to either shred the tier apart with SD or provide teams with the amazing combination of Rocks and removal. There is always a Pokemon that fits well with it, whether it be appreciating its breaking capabilities or aids it in checking some top threats. 5 days to submit! You must state which set you are pairing your partner with. Good luck!

:bw/conkeldurr:
Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Facade
- Knock Off
- Mach Punch

This Conkeldurr is a good partner to SD Drill as they form a rly solid breaking and cleaning core. mainly cus Conk is basically unwallable and it is really effective at luring most of Drill's answers (Phys Tang, Amoong, Skarm and Mence), even if the opponent is running a fast BB skarm Conkeldurr is able to trade with it and Excadrill is free to go to town. They also cover each others weakspots quite nicely as Conk is able to scare out Zarude and Krookodile while the drill covers for fast Aegislash, Togekiss and Chandelure which Conk hates. Because you already have Mach Punch and Rapid Spin there isn't much need for much more speed control, pairing these two with solid pivoting support is very necessary.

Thundurus-Therian with Utility Excadrill

Thundurus-Therian (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

Thundurus-Therian is incredibly strong in the meta right now, and is able to threaten almost everything that checks Excadrill, including Amoonguss, Azumarill, Celesteela, Conkeldurr, Crawdaunt, Diggersby, opposing Excadrill, Gyarados, Heracross, Hydreigon, Kommo-o, Krookodile, Mienshao, Moltres, Primarina, Salamence, Seismitoad, Skarmory, Slowking, Swampert, Tangrowth, and Zarude (why haven't we banned this dude yet?). In return, Utility Excadrill can set up Stealth Rocks for Thundurus-Therian's hits to sting even more, reliably remove Stealth Rocks from Thundurus-Therian's own side to prevent it from being worn down if it takes a Knock Off, and help deal with the few things that do check Thundurus-Therian, including Aegislash, Diancie, Ditto transformed into Thundurus-Therian, Gardevoir, Hatterene, Jirachi, Nihilego, the Rotom formes, Galarian Slowbro, Sylveon, Tapu Bulu, and Umbreon.

RestTalk Galar Moltres and Utility Excadrill

+

Moltres-Galar @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Berserk
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpA / 80 SpD / 16 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Fiery Wrath
- Hurricane

Galar Moltres has proven to be a very troublesome sweeper in the current UU metagame with a dual typing that threatens the prevalent Regen cores and other notable mons that Drill struggles against, namely Conkeldurr, Tangrowth, Amoonguss, Slowking, and Skarmory. With rocks up from Utility Drill, G-Molt can get more 2HKOes or OHKOes on the opposing team.

With RestTalk, it can circumvent status from a large plethora of mons that expect the Agility NP/Weakness Policy set and try to Tocic or T-Wave. It also serves as a nice blanket check to a lot of special threats like Hydreigon and Clang Soul Kommo. Basically, you click Rest and every time G-Molt's health falls at 50% or less, Berserk activates and you can accumulate multiple boosts with this as you keep Resting. Once it gets to +6 with Berserk, it can even 2HKO Chansey with Hurricane.

This set needs 16 Speed to outspeed Conkeldurr, Ada Crawdaunt, Azumarill, Primarina and Aegislash. 164 SpA EVs lets it guarantee 2HKO Chansey with Hurricane at +6 (While +6 Fiery Wrath 2HKOes Chansey after rocks). The rest of the EVs goes into HP and SpDef for longevity during sleep turns.
