Week 33: Omastar

:ss/Omastar:

Omastar has become a prominent part of Rain recently, even being featured on a sample team. Due to its amazing coverage, its ability to take on foes such as Amoonguss and Thundurus for its teammates. However, Omastar struggles to find a niche outside of Rain teams. This week, Lord Helix has decided it wants you to help it find a new set that will allow it to make a bigger splash in the metagame.

Taking Offensive Spikes!

:rs/omastar:

Omastar @ Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Spikes
- Earth Power / Toxic
- Scald
- Ice Beam

This Omastar set functions as an effective Spiker, have a great mu against Salamence and Togekiss while also hitting pretty hard. Earth Power can be swapped to Toxic to better handle Tangrowth and other common switch-ins, really up to you!

Some calcs:

252+ SpA Omastar Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 8 SpD Salamence: 472-556 (120.1 - 141.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Omastar Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 36 SpD Amoonguss: 228-270 (52.7 - 62.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Omastar Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Togekiss: 152-180 (40.7 - 48.2%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Omastar Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Slowbro-Galar: 176-208 (44.6 - 52.7%) -- 22.3% chance to 2HKO

Hazards setter Omastar

Omastar @ Red Card
Ability: Shell Armor
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Scald
- Seismic Toss

Here we have a more defensivish attempt than the usual Lord Helix.
Max HP EVs and SpD+ to increase our bulk to decent levels and Shell Armor helps to achieve this feature.
Scald+Seismic Toss allows Omastar to keep some offensive presence and the 30% burn chance from Scald is always appreciated.
Stealth Rock + Spikes is the combination of hazards chosen because they are the most consistent ones.

I think that the Red Card, although it is rarely seen, can be a good item here on a pokèmon with Shell Armor and enough bulk to make use of it because it allows to have an extra turn to set up.

Week 34: Thundurus

:ss/Thundurus:

Thundurus has been making waves recently with its Mixed Attacker set, being able to force progress against many offensive teams and no counters excluding the uncommon Gastrodon. It's incredible speed allows it to outpace many offensive threats in the metagame such as Keldeo, Zarude, and Mienshao, while access to Knock Off and U-turn allows it to chip n' dip foes like Diancie until they are in range of its Thunderbolt. The Nasty Plot set, while rarer, does have its merits such as Nasty Plotting on the Amoonguss switchin then OHKOing with Psychic. Thundurus has recently become bored with his old sets, so he'd like you to find him something new! Thundurus has given you quite a few moves in its movepool like Agility and Bulk Up to complete this task.

Thundurus (M) @ Power Herb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Superpower
- Fly
- Wild Charge

This set goes full in on punishing Defog attempts with Defiant. Knock Off and Superpower are chosen for coverage, with Fly and Wild Charge for STAB. A Power Herb allows Thundurus to get a Fly off immediately. A Jolly nature was chosen to maintain the speed advantage over most of the metagame.

Thundurus (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Thunder
- Weather Ball
- Psychic

Mr. thunder spammer on rain is a threat especially when thunder is 100% accurate and weather ball hits every ground type such as rhyperior, nidoqueen, krookodile and other pokemon such as nihilego, rotom-h, harder than any of its coverage options.

Prankster Defog Thundurus

Thundurus @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Defog
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Focus Blast

This set catches the opponent off-guard because Thundurus already uses HDB and a priority Defog is always useful to keep the field clean.
Don't underlook the evasion drop inflicted to the opponent because Focus Blast really appreciates this secondary effect (87,5% chance of hitting is really handy).

I'd like to put Thunder on the set, but I think that it makes this set too much Defog-reliant and luck-based.

The loss of Nasty Plot is huge, but we trade power for utility and team support, and I think this is fine/acceptable because you make Focus Blast a lot more reliable.

Endure + Petaya Thundurus-Incarnate
:ss/Thundurus:
Thundurus (M) @ Petaya Berry
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 212 Atk / 4 Def / 40 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Thunderbolt / Psychic / Grass Knot / Whatever you want
- Volt Switch / Psychic / Grass Knot / Whatever you want (I would not switch the moves of this but if you want the power of Tbolt while having coverage be my guest.
- Endure
- Superpower

This set can act as a fantastic lure for Chansey, making it switch in when they see special Thundurus-Incarnate, thinking they have a free switch into Chansey but Thundurus-Incarnate can smack it with a Superpower, or even OHKO it with a Defiant boost after Chansey has taken SR. (The 212 Attack EV's is for that.)You can mix and match the coverage with the first two moves as those are not important in making this set function. (Also use a special move otherwise petaya is useless and you might as well run liechi.) You can use Sludge Bomb for random Tangrowth or Tapu Bulu, or use the options i mentioned above.

Calc for proof ig: +2 212 Atk Thundurus Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Eviolite Chansey: 616-726 (87.5 - 103.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Thundurus (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Taunt
- Knock Off
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic

Thundurus gets priority in this set rather than being a Defiant user, so it can help as support to shut down hazard setters and setup sweepers. The casual 3 attacks (koff/tbolt/psychic) is run here and Taunt, which if you don't have priority, your setup will die. Of course, you can remove the taunt, But this guy is here to be annoying to HO :bloblul:

Now 100% more demonic
:ss/thundurus:
Thundurus @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Thunder Wave

This is similar to the old sets Thundurus used to run pre-Prankster nerf, and it can still be effective, as it allows Thundurus to reliably put a stop to nearly any setup sweeper when necessary, and Focus Blast and Thunderbolt between them threaten every relevant Dark-type.
