This week's Next Best Thing is...

Week 37: Guzzlord

:ss/Guzzlord:

With a gargantuan HP stat, Guzzlord has proven itself to have a niche in UU while also seeing some tournament play within the past few months. Unfortunatly, Guzzlord feels left out because unlike many other Pokémon in UU, Guzzlord only uses one set. This week, it has hired you to make its dream come true: giving it another fashionable set for it to showoff to its friends!

Guzzlord @ Choice Specs
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 104 HP / 252 SpA / 152 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Sludge Wave
- Sleep Talk / Fire Blast

With choice specs and Dragon/Dark/Poison coverage, Guzz can power through of some of the standard ins to rest talk, such has Primarina (assuming you click the right move on the switch), Buzzwole (same) and guss, krook, zarude with lesser risk. Sleep Talk allows it to absorb Spores while Fire blast hits grasses types harder. The Speed EVS allows it to outspeed Prim with 20 speed EVs (which should be as hard as rest talk creeps)

EVs: 252 Atk / 116 Def / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature

CB is a nuke and lures in many pokemon such as primarina, hattrene, and tapu bulu with poison jab. Outrage is also strong as hell almost 2hko'ing scarf rachi. It can also snowball especially with beast boost and its large hp

Week 37: Buzzwole

:ss/Buzzwole:

Despite the fact that it's projected to rise to OU next month, Buzzwole has requested that I arrange for a new outfit to be made for it to enjoy in UU. With some unused moves such as Bulk Up, Taunt, and Sleep Talk, its your job to unleash its true power and give Buzzwole the sendoff it deserves!

Buzzwole @ Assault Vest
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat / Drain Punch
- Leech Life
- Poison Jab / Earthquake
- Stone Edge

DESCRIPTION:
Buzzwole already boasts tremendous physical bulk and excellent access to attacking recovery, so slapping an Assault Vest on him capitalises on his bulk. Drain Punch and/or Leech Life is essential, as the Assault Vest causes Buzzwole to lose access to Roost and still needs to maintain a way to recover HP. Such moves allow Buzzwole to bypass Taunt and still recover HP, which its other sets cannot do. The Fighting and Bug STAB, in combination with Rock and Poison coverage, is excellent in the UU tier, as there are barely any Pokémon that can barely switch in safely (barring Aegislash, which Earthquake is used for but then you lose momentum against bulky Fairy types such as Primarina and Azumarill). The Assault Vest allows Buzzwole to perform well in a 1v1 matchup with top-tier Pokémon by tanking their attacks and retaliating with an OHKO/2HKO, such as Krookodile, Primarina, Nihilego, Slowbro-Galar, Nidoking, Thundurus-Therian (choice variant), Roserade, Ninetales-Alola, and Amoonguss (given another Pokémon is asleep already from Spore). With the Assault Vest, Buzzwole is an excellent bulky offense all-around attacker that can live most powerful neutral special hits in the tier, though it has a pitiful 53 Special Defense stat, meaning common super-effective coverage moves such as Hurricane, Air Slash, Flamethrower, and Psychic pose as an annoyance to Buzzwole. There is also an element of predictability that is needed when using an all-around attacker Buzzwole, allowing it to threaten common checks on the switch like Primarina, Moltres, and Salamence with its coverage moves.

CALCULATIONS:
0 SpA Amoonguss Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 94-112 (22.4 - 26.7%) -- 34.2% chance to 4HKO

0 SpA Primarina Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 276-326 (66 - 77.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 297-351 (71 - 83.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Nihilego Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 169-201 (40.4 - 48%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

252 SpA Thundurus-Therian Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole: 178-210 (42.5 - 50.2%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO

252+ SpA Life Orb Seismitoad Weather Ball (100 BP Water) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Buzzwole in Rain: 292-344 (69.8 - 82.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

A simple set harkening back to ADV. Come in on something that can't hurt Buzzwole like Krookodile, Chansey, or Tangrowth, Sub up as they switch out, and absolutely smash whatever just switched in. You have coverage to hit everything in the tier for neutral damage at worst.

Buzzwole @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Impish Nature
- Ice Punch / Earthquake
- Drain Punch
- Bulk Up
- Roost

Def Bulk up allows it to use pokemon such as zygarde-10%, zarude, and mienshao as set up and boost using them, Ice punch is for amoonguss, salamence, and for other pokemon like nidoqueen, and thundurus-t. Earthquake is for aegislash, a stronger hit on jirachi, nihilego and slowbro-g. The choice can be based on your team and what you need it for. Bulk up can take over a game once their special attacker is weakened such as salamence, moltres, keldeo, and primarina.

Buzzwole @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 104 Spe
Impish Nature
- Drain Punch
- Taunt
- Toxic
- Roost

Taunt allows Buzzwole to punish more passive Pokemon that can switch into it, such as Aegislash, Moltres, and Primarina. It also makes it surprisingly hard for stall to switch into with Toxic. This would probably be a great set if you weren't forced to end up completely walled by Aegislash...
