i am very proud of this mocc and i think that the managers (vivalospride Adaam r0ady hs TDK Amukamara Shiba (i didnt tagged cs because he doesnt really need mengy since they are probably at the same level in BW (imo) and im a bit scared of him)) should consider BW Clefable for their line up. thank you

UUPL IX POWER RANKINGS
by: Lilburr, vivalospride, Indigo Plateau, Accelgor

TEAM OVERVIEWS

Adaam returns with the Camphrier Town Ladies once more, looking to lead yet another strong team after an excellent performance last year where they claimed first seed and rode that all the way to finals, being narrowly beaten out by CBU’s Eterna Forest Veterans. Last year’s performance is ultimately meaningless, though - can they field a strong roster in this edition of UUPL? The answer to that, according to the rankers, is a resounding yes - the Ladies are once again atop the power rankings in first place!

Adaam took a similar approach to last year when starting out his team, purchasing himself to play in the Bo3 slot, where he’s ranked second overall. While this costed him a pretty penny, his skill in all three tiers is very notable and it’s fair to say that this was a worthwhile investment if he can perform to his usual standard. Joining him is another former Lady, Christo, who is playing DPP this year - while it’s uncertain how familiar he is with DPP UU as a whole, Christo is a phenomenal player and absolutely smashed the tournament last year. Adaam got him quite cheaply too. It’s very likely that these two picks alone will be great for the Ladies. In SS, Adaam has slotted the core of Ajna, Feliburn, and Ramolost. All three have historically been excellent SS UU players - Ajna and Feliburn performed very well in the last edition of UUPL and have great synergy together, while Ramolost has landed himself a spot on the council after a pretty solid run in the Smogon Snake Draft. Joining them is Pak in SM, a tier where Mandibuzz, Nidoqueen, and Roserade are all quite niche. He should still put up an excellent performance, of course, and was unanimously ranked at #1 in this field. Filling the ORAS Pak-shaped hole in the Ladies’ hearts is Splash, an up-and-coming ORAS OU player who, despite his low ranking, should do quite well with Pak’s teambuilding support. Rounding out the oldgens core is choolio in BW, brewfasa in ADV, and Zokuru in GSC - all three are veterans in their respective tiers and typically put up solid performances. Finally, the Ladies have three capable substitutes in Jordy, devin, and tlenit who can all put up solid records if needs be.

If the Ladies all perform to their typical standard, this is very clearly a playoffs-making roster and potentially the favourite to win the entire tournament. Their main weakness may be a lack of old generation substitutes, but this should end up being a non-issue as long as their players don’t underperform.

After a mixed season on with the Sandacondas in UU Snake, hs returns to manage once more, this time piloting the Heaheabeach Surfers, a name with more layers than a well-cooked tiramisu. In a twist everyone expected, hs decided to draft as many of his fellow Brazilians as he possibly could in addition to a few other players to make up for certain holes that they were unable to cover otherwise. Did this work out? Let’s see.

hs decided to slot himself in SM for this tournament. It’s very hard to know if he’ll perform or not here - a lot of his performance will likely rely on bringing the most cracked teams possible that nobody will expect, but he’s historically been pretty good at that. Unfortunately, this unpredictability leaves him ranked last. In SS, the Surfers have a core of Highways, Luthier, and Askov. This is actually quite strong - Highways, despite being somewhat unproven (and 0-9 en uupl), has been quietly putting up excellent records for a while now, even managing an excellent 6-1 record in the most recent UU Snake Draft and 3-0 record in UU World Cup. Askov performed quite well in both UU Snake (4-4) and Smogon Snake (3-3), while Martinho Luthier has a high amount of skill overall and put up a reasonable 3-4 record in SS UU in last year’s UUPL. In ORAS, we have Eternal Spirit, who pretty much always puts up a solid enough record and there’s no reason to believe this will change in this tournament, while in BW we have EviGaro, a player who managed to go 8-0 in UU Snake, a testament to her ability to not immediately lose to BW moments. Rounding this team out is Thiago Nunes in DPP, who’s done pretty well in the tier over the past year or so, Plas in ADV, who had an excellent UU Snake, LpZ in GSC, who is looking to have a breakout performance in this tournament, and mncmt in Bo3, who will be impossible to counterteam as long as hs and Highways are around to create copious amounts of bullshit. And finally, we have the substitutes… okay here we go: MrAldo, Corazan, Moutemoute, Lyss, Spl4sh, Ren-chon, SpenderOfTime, Hyogafodex, and HANTSUKI. I’m not going into detail here but they can all sub into various slots if needed, so manpower should never be an issue for the Surfers.

While this team isn’t necessarily bad, it ended up being ranked quite low in a lot of slots due to unproven players and also hs in SM UU. Their season could absolutely go either way, but at the moment it looks like it might be an uphill battle for the Surfers due to a lack of starpower.

GO FRIENDS! This was vivalospride’s philosophy when drafting his team this year - it shows, considering he drafted eight people this year that were on his roster the year before. Not necessarily a bad thing as long as they can make up the deficit, but the Friends had a subpar performance in the last edition of UUPL - can they look to change that this time?

Viv is one of the few managers who didn’t purchase himself, instead retaining three of his prior teammates - odr, Bebo, and Donphantastic. Known for being incredible chat presences and very good players in their own right, viv has decided that working around these three would be the optimal way for the Friends to go. odr and Bebo will be playing SS, where they both performed excellently last year, while Donny P. will be handling DPP, a tier that is effectively synonymous with his name at this point. Rounding out the RU core of SS UU players is Meru, who’s been around for a very long time at this point and usually puts up pretty good performances. In SM, viv has decided to slot rozes. While rozes is a great player, his involvement with SM UU is uncertain and he received a pretty low ranking as a result. The team’s ORAS player is Killintime, who pretty much always breaks even in this tier and can be expected to do the same this year, while BW UU is being played by SOMALIA, who went undefeated in the tier in both last year’s UUPL and in UUWC. He can be expected to dominate the field, as long as he consistently plays. Rounding out the oldgens core is TSR in ADV, who should perform fairly well if he can keep his confidence in check, and Leru in GSC, who is new to the tier but seems to be quite motivated to play it. His overall skill should translate well here. Finally in Bo3 there’s Sacri’, who viv tragically had to pay a whopping 27k for. Their friendship and/or romance goes back quite a long time and it’s no surprise that viv paid this much for him, and of course his skill as a player is incredible - it’s very likely he’ll put up yet another excellent Bo3 performance as long as the teambuilding support is there for him, but his price tag did force the rest of the auction out of viv’s hands somewhat. Finally, the substitutes are Alkione, alive, and Draphirion - the former two are capable oldgen players who can slot in if needs be, while the latter is an up-and-coming SS player that the CEO of teambuilding seems quite confident in.

The Friends definitely look a bit better than they did last year, and while they’re still not top tier, they should be able to make playoffs as long as they have a couple of great performances

The Jerk returns for another outing in UUPL, spearheaded once more by TDK, TonyFlygon, and potentially their forgotten retain Garay oak. The Monsters are known for often fielding rosters that feature incredibly strong players but having pretty lacking support for them, leading to some hit-or-miss performances. TDK has bought himself to play in Bo3, leaving his partner-in-crime Tony to handle SS; the question now is whether or not the rest of the roster filled itself out well enough.

Joining Tony in SS is two tournament players with a ton of recent results, lax and beatiful. Lax has been putting up great records in tournaments for ages now, while bea has found a lot of success in OU in the past year or so between winning two different ribbons, being part of the winning Smogon Snake Draft team with a great record himself, putting up a solid SPL performance and probably a ton of other stuff I’m forgetting. With good teambuilding support, these guys should do very well. In SM we have Bushtush, a very interesting user with a lot of experience in the tier. He should do quite well as long as TDK doesn’t let him load up crack every week. Garay oak is taking up the mantle for ORAS once again, a tier he’s been very good at for a while now - with Pak out of the mix, he’s finally clawed his way to a #1 spot in the individual tier rankings, too. Punny is diving into BW again after putting up multiple great records in the tier following a surprise UUPL performance last year, while Star is taking a shot at DPP this time around - it’s unknown how much experience he has with DPP UU, though, and the Monsters are somewhat lacking in people who can build for him. Ark is showing his boomer side by taking on ADV UU, a tier he’s been innovating for a while now, while d0nut is playing GSC again following a pretty good 4-4 run last year. The substitutes here are col49 and tko, and ideally they can both provide some input to teambuilding - col almost certainly will, while tko is more likely to drop a “LMFAOO” before proceeding to not speak in chat for another week or so.

If this team can overcome its building support issues, it will almost certainly be a playoff contender and potentially even the team to take the entire tournament. It remains to be seen if that will happen, but for now the Monsters look to be a solid team yet again.

The reigning champs are back after surprising the UU community with the weight of their success last uupl. This year they have drafted quite the army to say the least with plenty of subs to go around as well as a pretty solid backbone to rely on with CBU, Kink, Amukamara, esche, and Indigo Plateau. Amukamara is coming off of a hot year individually but a poor last UUPL, the amount of success he has had in recent memory is absolutely nothing to sneeze at though and should be respected as he is hoping to maintain the glory of last year’s vets. Former manager CBU is coming off a cold streak but this does not negate the fact that his previous UUPL he went absolutely berserk in a stacked bo3 pool and is very capable of doing so again. Indigo Plateau and Esche being key players to have for this team at such a modest amount of money is extremely good for this roster as well, both likely going positive in their pools and bringing solid support to multiple gens at a time. Kink’s track record is undeniable and SilvioGuacamole returning at only 6k is a huge steal in a SS slot. Other key old gen slots such as Xiri and Mr.378 are sure to contribute positively towards the team’s success with their solid track records as well. JabbaTheGriffin in DPP even with decent support might be part of this team’s downfall as DPP is one of the strongest pools by a decent margin. All the money that went towards stacking bench players can only be so effective as well, but it’s for sure that with players like Notily, basaninho, TMM, and Gilbert arenas, there will surely be a lot of life in the SS channels. Hopefully leading to success. Overall this team has potential to be very good but also a lot of potential to fall quite short with some streaky players and potentially wasted budget, but they are the reigning champions for a reason and should be feared as such.

The legendary franchise that can’t win a ring makes it’s return with Shiba once again at the helm, to the delight of UUPL fans everywhere. Shiba kicked off the draft dropping an obscene amount of money on robjr but didn’t mind because he got some absolute studs such as HT and HSA for just around 10k each. HT and Shiba as well as robjr and Cynde are tried and true duos that can support multiple generations of UU without difficulty and have a lot of experience with one another, hopefully leading to a good team environment that translates to dubs on the sheet. Interestingly enough Shiba decided to go for a SS core primarily consisting of proven builders, dropping a risky but somewhat understandable 11.5k on UU up and comer LNumbers otherwise known as Clark. Cynde has been disrespected for far too long and brings a lot of experience and build support to the table, and after UU Snake KSt3ve has made a lot of waves as a builder and will finally get his chance to prove he’s goated on the sticks as well. The old gen slots are incredibly well rounded here with Shiba himself manning ADV, which he enjoys quite a lot and we will hopefully get to see the former UU Classic champion put in some work in this ADV pool. Tomahawk proved to be impressive enough in UU Snake for a 15k price tag, and HSA for 10k is a steal of a retain in the GSC slot. Fooly for 7.5k is also a potential steal but with fooly you can only expect so much activity so it’s a double edged sword in a tier as cheesy as BW UU.

Chaitanya is definitely on the lower half of the ORAS pool but has decent support and is a solid player for sure, final record could be anything. Decent bench options like TJ, jacob, and Isza are cool but don’t offer much support to any slots, just general subs, which is fine but not the most ideal. Ultimately this team took a gamble on their SS core but is very solid all-around, will probably end up relying on the robjr price tag being worthwhile while hoping the original smashers backbone isn’t too washed and performs up to par for their success, which is very plausible.

First time Battle Girl manager r0ady is here with a pretty solid squad consisting of some big time threats such as Finchinator and Gondra. r0ady being a BW UU player himself allowed him to all in on Finchinator for the bo3 slot, everyone dropped huge bags on their bo3 slot to say the least but this one should be pretty worthwhile as you’re guaranteeing some activity, experience, and wins. Gondra is very proven in SM UU but lacks the support he has had in the past for sure, but Gondra always finds a way and is good enough for him to be one of the best in this pool without question. Heysup is still a menace and should be feared, for only 12k as well. Heysup has been a Battle Girls staple for years and will probably continue to contribute to their success to some degree as he has had a great track record over the years. Council member Sabella for only 5.5k is extremely worth although recently he’s been too busy to meet a satisfactory level of activity so it could go either way. Other SS picks such as avarice, Mindnight, Juno, and Alpha Rabbit don’t have much experience in prior UUPLs but have potential to say the least with some solid individual success among a few of those listed. Manipulative at his peak is very scary although it is 2021 so who knows what’ll happen there, hard to say though with the lack of immediate ORAS support. 100%GXE has made a come back after making a name for himself last year, he has been somewhat MIA from the UU community in recent memory but there’s little doubt that he is still up to his usual standard and will be impressive. Raichy is a great guy and pick up for 12.5k as well and rounds out an all-around mid-tier-ish old gens lineup.

Estarossa and ReeceHughes have teamed this UUPL as the only two GSC UU mains in existence and hopefully can use their inside knowledge to secure some wins for the Battle Girls as well. All-around this team is similar to the vets in that his also has a lot of potential to do well but a fair amount of potential to crash and burn due to lack of support and unknown entities in starting slots.

The Iki Town Idols seem to be back to their former glory two years ago with this star studded lineup of women. ChillShadow is an extremely strong manager purchase being able to support multiple key old gens and being at the tippy top of a stacked DPP pool, he kicked his draft off with dropping 24.5k on SoulWind to hopefully show up and win games every week in BW, which is admirable. UU Tier Leader Lilburr was a worthwhile retain for only 10k for sure, automatically bringing a certain level of activity towards the SS core and team chat in general. The SS core is rounded out with umbry and Nat for less than 20k total which is extremely impressive to say the least. Umbry has been tearing up everything she’s entered in recent memory and Nat is one of the more slept on SS UU slots these days with her huge success last open and doing very well in UU Snake as well. Bouff is about as good of an ADV slot as you’re gonna get with his meta knowledge and constant activity in multiple gens, not to mention his experience in general. Bugzinator at 7k is once again back on the idols, definitely being a worthwhile bo3 purchase even with the baggage of him only staying in the discord server for like 4-5 minutes at a time. PDT has a solid track record as a mid-tier SM UUer throughout the past few UUPLs, also just being an incredible teammate and guy to get along with. J0RIS is very impressive but lacks much of any ORAS UU support on the roster, but definitely has potential to go positive in this pool. Kaori rounds out the starting lineup with her returning to the idols as their GSC slot, certainly being worth the modest 3k price tag.

Martha and Serene Grace finish the roster, offering SS back up primarily but most importantly at least somewhat reliable subs in general. Martha is motivated to prove herself this UUPL and Serene Grace is a solid Pokémon player for sure, this team definitely is very solid all-around and is looking very threatening. I think there’s potential for some lower half slots for sure but altogether this team is looking pretty solid, with their SS core being extremely threatening and some huge names in old gens as well.

Please remember that these rankings are just for fun, don't take them too heart. We're all probably biased at the end of the day. Good luck to all teams! Thanks to IP & viv for organising this and to Accel for letting us convince him to take part against his wishes. Also we did the writeups like a week after the rest of the PRs so there's a bunch of inconsistencies but who cares. Enjoy!
