VGC 2008-2009 Archives

Hi I’m shepherd_10, also known as Avocado73, and I’m here to share some of what I have found. I used to play VGC in Sword and Shield, although I wasn’t very good. I began playing Pokémon as a kid back with Platinum for the DS. I spent a lot of time wondered what a gen 4 VGC meta game would look like and decided to do some research. I am frustrated by the lack of consolidation for information regarding the VGC 2008-2009 meta game. I find it more interesting than the restricted format of 2010 and really like a lot of the mons that are viable. I wish there was a site or somewhere to archive all of the information to as I would like to recreate many of these old teams in game to host mini tournaments with friends and family on Battle Revolution. That being said I made my own small scale draft of what an archive could be like. I don’t have the time or resources to consolidate all of the information, but if there are and VGC historians out there I hope that this may inspire them or help them have one place with several resources. cool list and thanks for putting this together - just a note that I'll be moving this to the past format discussion forum since it's a more appropriate place for the topic.

I started competing in ORAS so unfortunately I can't be much help to you in terms of data acquiring from these formats, but it may be worth going to the back of the past format discussion forum and reading up on some of the warstories users posted here from the era, back when smogon was a much bigger hub for the budding vgc playerbase
