SMOGON VGC Winter League 2021 ​

Welcome to the Boring Thread where we post all the relevant announcements pertaining to Winter League. This thread will also be used for final decisions of a tournament director nature, such as activity decisions, punishing people for cheating, etc.

General Housekeeping Rules

1. Managers are allowed one (1) Assistant Manager.
2. Managers and Assistant Managers may self-purchase prior to auction for 15,000 credits each.
3. There will be six (6) starters and two (2) substitutes: the minimum number of players on a team is eight (8) and the maximum number of players on a team is ten (10).
4. There will be no midseason.
5. There will be a severe penalty for any team that picks up a known alt of a banned player, or any player masquerading as another person. It is important to establish that both parties will be penalized immediately and appropriately if they are found doing so.

Players Signups Close: 24 Hours Prior to Auction

Couple of big announcements that we've had so far

First off, we've decided on a format change. The new format selection for VGC WL is:

1x VGC 21 Series 11
1x VGC 21 Series 10
1x VGC 21 Series 9
1x Battle Festival Doubles
1x VGC 2017 / VGC 2018 / VGC 2019 rotation
1x VGC 2015

If signups rapidly increase, we can increase player slots from 6 to 8, adding the formats that saw the most increase alongside the player signups. This is not guaranteed though.

Also, Teka has selected Setsuku for his assistant manager. That's all for now, but keep watching the thread for more announcements related to the league

Re: Onaika

Onaika was drafted by Teka to the Geosenge Glastriers for 3000 credits. Teka informed me before the draft's end that Onaika will not be able to play for the tournament. Teka was given back 3000 credits as a result and Onaika will not be accepted as a member of the Geosenge Glastriers roster.

In the future, please remember to delete your signup post if you can no longer compete in the tournament.

General Housekeeping

submitting lineups

Managers should send lineups to Jashsmash before the start of a given week. Roster submissions can be made over Smogon PM or Discord DM. When submitting, please use the following format:

Series 11: @smogonname
Series 10: @smogonname
Series 9: @smogonname
BDSP BFD: @smogonname
VGC [rotation year here]: @smogonname
VGC 2015: @smogonname

If you fail to submit your lineup before the week begins, your lineup will be defaulted to the same lineup sent the previous week.

contacting opponents

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. If your opponent isn't someone you can immediately reach out to on Twitter or Discord, please leave a message on your opponent's public Smogon wall. Watch this video for a guide on how to schedule with someone on Smogon. Scheduling on Smogon is ALWAYS encouraged in the case of activity disputes. Please contact your opponents as early as possible, and be sure to check Smogon at least once a day to not miss any communication.

reporting wins

To report your win, post all replays of the match in the respective week thread. For example, there will be a thread with the pairings for week 2, that is where you go to post your replays (or twitch VOD etc) for your match. Please post your own replays if you are able to do so.

activity wins and substitutions

If you/your player finds that your opponent isn't ready to play at the scheduled time, please notify the opposing team's manager, zeefable, and JashSmash by tagging them all in the VGC Winter League channel in the Smogon VGC Discord. If it has been 30 minutes since these parties have been notified, the team will be granted an activity win.

There are two possible ways to make a substitution in this tournament.

1 - Smogon thread. If you're declaring a substitution in the Smogon thread, you would say "subbing in @playergoingin for @playergoingout" and proceed to tag the opposing manager, the opposing player, zeefable, and JashSmash.

2 - Discord. If you're declaring a substitution over Discord, use the manager chat and notify the opposing manager, zeefable, and JashSmash.

Re: Setsuku, PhiladelphiaVGC and Lady Eldegard

Overnight it was found that PhiladelphiaVGC and Lady Eldegard are two successful Chinese players who have joined their first draft league. These are not "first time players looking to make friends". As per the tournament rules, we will be disqualifying both of these players for pretending to be someone else. Even though they did not impersonate a specific player, signing up under an uncommon alias and hiding your accomplishments has precedent to be DQ'd via the SkillScarlet situation in NPA 9.

Setsuku expressed to me that it was his fault for being new to draft leagues. However, the blame is with the players here. Setsuku will not be penalized.

Re: Teka

Something I was not informed about prior to manager selection is that Teka has drafted alts for the recently concluded EGL. It's quite obvious that Teka encouraged his eventual players to signup for this tournament under names different from their well known names (see the above for example). The smoking gun in this case is sebas22, better known as sebastian escalante. Teka could not stop bragging about how he got sebas for so cheap after the draft ended. I then woke up to find these logs on discord.

Teka invoking my name to act like I am at fault for people finding out his scummy draft practices is quite ridiculous. I do not want this shady character or his practices to be allowed to continue for the rest of the tournament. Giving logs like this + the history I have been informed of involving drafting alts, I have no choice.

Results: Teka will be removed as Geosenge Glastriers manager, Infracted, and banned from Smogon VGC events from one year. Setsuku is the new GSG manager and will be allowed to pick an assistant manager.

The Glastriers will have Teka, Lady Eldegard, and PhiladelphiaVGC removed from their roster at once.

Re: PhiladelphiaVGC and Lady Eldegard 2

After extensive discussion with Setsuku and all the other managers, we have reached a compromise on their punishment for the league. We have significant reason to believe that the inexperience + culture barrier was enough for these players to not be aware of tournament customs and as such their punishments will be lifted.

Result: PhiladelphiaVGC and Lady Eldegard will be allowed to play starting Week 3 of Winter League

Setsuku has selected izzy22x to join them as comanager for the Glastriers following Teka's removal.

Some good news!

Because of the holiday season, week 2 will be given an extra week to be completed. The "week" will start on 12/20 and end on 1/3.

We may schedule some fun events to help fill the time if people are interested, so stay tuned for that.
