Despite Salamence's lessened usage and Mimikyu's new access to a more powerful Z-move, I still find myself using this particular mon as my favorite glue mon, you really cannot find a better mon to repeatedly come in on Gyarados/Ferrothorn and act as a soft check to blaziken and be an earthquake immune for teams that sorely need it... and even as a mon that can square up with a drumming azu with ease!

Zapdos's naturally good speed allows it to even outspeed 252 speed Jolly azu (121>112), and i'm not sure if webs azu is a thing in 3v3 considering I have seen it exactly zero times, but it's immune to webs so it will virtually always go before the rabbit.

Both slashed options for Electric STAB can fell an Azumarill with 50% health from Z-Belly Drum, but Sitrus can be disposed of with a combination of Discharge and one Rocky Helmet damage, or one straight Thunderbolt. The potential have a 51% chance to paralyze in a turn as they use a contact move is VERY nice indeed, don't simply take the move that takes azu the best, there really are more mons in this meta. If you use Pressure, the decision may become more clear towards Thunderbolt, though:

0 SpA Zapdos Thunderbolt vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 150-176 (75 - 88%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
0 SpA Zapdos Discharge vs. 196 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 134-158 (67 - 79%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

90/85 may seem like insufficient bulk to get the job done vs 896 attack STAB aqua jet, but it gets the job done if Azumarill uses the 1 move it can use to go before Zapdos.
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zapdos: 135-160 (68.5 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Any other move after BD is suicide, as Zapdos will kill you first.

I wouldn't say that Choice Band is taken *comfortably*, but it can take a Play Rough on the chin and farm Rocky Helmet damage with Roost (two RH hits to make your Electric STAB kill):

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Zapdos: 114-135 (57.8 - 68.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Splashable as hell, and happens to beat this mon. The best mon I ever traded for was my wonderful Static Bold HP Ice Zapdos, it's so damn useful in so many situations on so many teams. Try it out!

Toxapex can flex all over Azumarill thanks to it's fantastic bulk. Once Azumarill sets up Belly Drum all you have to do is click Haze and it loses all it's boosts. Then you just stall it out with Toxic and bam! Azumarill is fainted. The only move you have to watch out for is Knock Off, but if you run Icium then it won't have a chance of OHKOing you.

Mega Aggron does its job surprisingly well against both sets of Azumarill as Choice band does absolutely (calcs below) and it can just Curse up and utilize Rest to restore its health. Heavy Slam on the other hand can easily take care of Azumarill 2HKO'ing it.

The only thing people imagine from Azumarill is a brute force; while it is true that Azumarill is relevant as a physical attacker 99% of the time, there are some lure gimmicks from stuff like Sap Sipper perish trap variants. So I would say Mega Venusaur can deal with Azumarill with its bulk and typing. Azumarill obviously won't perish trap Vensaur while taking Sludge Bomb and can't even Toxic this thing on switch.

20 Speed is invested for Mega Venusaur to outspeed neutral nature max speed base 50's (where Azumarill's speed tier sits) so if Mega Venusaur switches into Belly Drum, the hardest hit it can take is +6 Aqua Jet which does this much:

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 236+ Def Venusaur-Mega: 53-63 (28.3 - 33.6%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO

0 SpA Venusaur-Mega Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 146-174 (70.5 - 84%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The Squash's ToxaFLEX :swole::blobpex:
I'm picking Toxapex because it is by far the Pokemon that i would least want to deal with. Another thing is it's a complete waste of a Belly Drum if Toxapex is in. Secondly I have to echo what cant say said. It checks so many other things without having to use up a Mega Slot which is pretty nice when building.

The Squash's Toxapex.
Hard to really add much else to the discussion that hasn't already been said other than that the combination of BD + Knock Off isn't super common so Toxapex should be able to eat any one hit from Azu and Haze safely.

Congratulations The Squash ! Your submission will be logged in the Archive!
Victim of the Week 46 - Mega Rayquaza

rayquaza-mega.gif

And now for something completely different, we'll cover a very Special threat. Rayquaza is a one of a kind Mega Evolution, needing only to have Dragon Ascent as one of its moves in order to mega evolve, which leaves its item slot free. Thanks to that, Rayquaza can hit very hard with its 180 offensive stats coupled with a Life Orb, or it can run a Focus Sash in order to survive a srong attack from full health. 105/100/100 defenses are not to be taken lighly either, and the Strong Winds summoned by Delta Stream cancels the Flying-type weakesses, making it even harder to check. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Submissions will be closed in 4 days from now. Good Luck!

This set is probably one of my favorite sets to use in UBERS and AG whenever I rarely get a chance to play those tiers. Yveltal is able to Taunt opposing Rayquaza in case it decides it wants to Dragon Dance. It Survives a Dragon Ascent and can do a decent amount of damage with Sucker Punch and Rocky Helmet. Not only this but If you do predict the Dragon Dance you can easily OHKO with Foul Play. At +1 Dragon Ascent doesn't even KO so it ends up working perfectly for whatever you end up choosing. This is the perfect set Rayquaza in my opinion and its easily put on other teams. I wouldn't say it's splashable but I'd say it makes for some pretty good glue!

Mimi actually needs a boosting item because unboosted Play Rough + Sneak gives a 91-107.7% spread (I'm not good at probability but that doesn't look in your favour) and Ray can just switch out and make you waste your Z move on something stupid like Ferrothorn or Celesteela and then you will probably get unlucky when the Ray comes back in and miss the KO with regular Play Rough + Sneak. Curse is cool for annoying those bulky mons that support Ray and works well on the standard SD set or with either Sub/Pain Split. Drain Punch is neat for hurting Steels.

Standard SR lead Dialga in Ubers. Because of the fact that Mega Rayquaza's brute force is unmatched by any other Pokemon and it has like infinite coverage, one of the only reliable counterplay is getting a 'mon that is able to handle DD / Mixed Mega Rayquaza (which I don't believe to be realistically possible) by virtue of being fat, or being able to live a hit and KOing back. The only way Mega Rayquaza can OHKO Dialga is using V-create or Outrage at +1 with Life Orb, which is very counterproductive to its sweep and leaves it vulnerable to revenge killing.

Dialga resists Dragon Ascent, is now able to handle Earthquake thanks to Shuca Berry, and KO back using Draco Meteor. Stealth Rock greatly bothers Mega Rayquaza by limiting its setup opportunities. Fire Blast roasts fat Steel-types that are paired with Mega Rayquaza.

Shoutouts to cant say for taking Mimikyu so fast

I haven't seen it reserved yet, so I'm taking Sash Mamoswine Oof Extreme Speed is a thing. If anyone can make Sash Mamo work, I'm unreserving it.

Outspeeds, blocks Extreme Speed, just squeaks an OHKO with Moonblast (Timid can't do the job. seriously fuck ray). Deals with all-out attacker sets or SD but it's gg if it gets a speed boost haha. Great thing about Lele is that Psychic Terrain persists even after it is KOed, so a team member such as Sash Mamoswine can take advantage of the immunity to Ray's priority to clean up with its own priority. Lele is very conditional as an answer but it can enable you to beat it with an offensive teammate so that's got to count for something, right? If not I can always replace this nom with physdef Cloyster.

I nominate Nothing. Clicking X is the best counter for this mon. Give up.

On a more serious note, (or not, because I'm actually serious about forfeiting being the best counter) I'm completely stumped. I could nominate focus sash BS like your own Rayquaza or Lele or one of the other Uber Dragons like Palkia, but anybody with a brain is going to team Rayquaza up with lol stealth rock and then you're gonna get rekt by it anyway. So I'll just nominate a pokemon that outspeeds and OHKO's. If Ray gets +1 you're done for but that's true for any so-called counter if stealth rock is up. So KEEP UP OFFENSIVE PRESSURE and make sure you don't give Ray a free setup opportunity, and if you have your own mega Rayquaza (which you probably will) just make sure that it sweeps your opponent first. If all else fails, skillfully win the speed tie. So without further ado...

Ultra Burst, outspeed and kill it with Dragon Pulse. Heat Wave is for Ferro and other steels. Moongeist Beam is the only reason to run this over Dusk Mane, and I like it because eff Mimikyu lol (no, Photon Geyser does not kill, and you can't use your Z move until the turn after you Ultra Burst). Photon Geyser is your strongest STAB attack and since you already have Ultranecrozium Z you can use your Z move. You can probably replace something with Power Gem if you hate Yveltal in particular and want to hit it on the switch in, I was thinking Photon Geyser, but I'm not gonna list it because IMO having Dragon Pulse as your only STAB is kinda weak lol.

All right, submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions. A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on the 1/28 at 10:00pm GMT-2 (9:00pm EST), where the next Vitim Of The Week will also be announced
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory

- Roost
- Foul Play

- Play Rough

- Swords Dance / Substitute / Pain Split
- Curse / Drain Punch

Mimi actually needs a boosting item because unboosted Play Rough + Sneak gives a 91-107.7% spread (I'm not good at probability but that doesn't look in your favour) and Ray can just switch out and make you waste your Z move on something stupid like Ferrothorn or Celesteela and then you will probably get unlucky when the Ray comes back in and miss the KO with regular Play Rough + Sneak. Curse is cool for annoying those bulky mons that support Ray and works well on the standard SD set or with either Sub/Pain Split. Drain Punch is neat for hurting Steels.
