Victim of the Week 51 - Rotom-H

rotom-h.gif

Up next we have the Plasma Pokemon, Rotom-H! Since each of Rotom's forms work slightly different, we'll only cover this one on this week. While Rotom's defensive stats aren't that great anymore in this gen, it holds up as a offensive threat thanks to its unique typing and decent 105 Special Attack. Electric/Fire is a unique typing that lets Rotom check some threats in the meta, such as Tapu Koko, Mega Metagross without Zen Headbutt and Mega Salamence. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Nihilego @ Choice Scarf / Focus Sash /Black Sludge
Ability: Beast Boost
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Spa / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
Timid Nature
- Sludge Wave
- Power Gem
- Toxic / Knock Off / Grass Knot / Hidden Power Fire / Toxic Spikes
- Stealth Rock

Even without any investment in bulk nihilego laughs at rotom-h and can threaten the ko with power gem or set up rocks to prevent rotom from coming in and volt switching freely. Personally im a fan of using scarf with stealth rock + knock + dual stab. knock off can cripple a lot the common switchins to nihilego such as leftovers celesteela / aegisalsh, pinch berry hippo and eviolite p2 to set up for a late game sweep.

252 SpA Nihilego Power Gem vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Heat: 128-152 (81.5 - 96.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
252+ SpA Rotom-Heat Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 58-70 (31.5 - 38%) -- 93.4% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Rotom-Heat Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nihilego: 33-40 (17.9 - 21.7%) -- possible 5HKO

Tyranitar @ Lum Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch / Pursuit / Rock Tomb / Superpower

Tyranitar can easily take a hit from Rotom-H and OHKO it with Stone Edge. Lum Berry is useful for Will-O-Wisp.

252+ Atk Tyranitar Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Rotom-H: 182-216 (115.9 - 137.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-H Overheat vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 52-62 (29.7 - 35.4%) -- 23% chance to 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-H Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Tyranitar in Sand: 58-69 (33.1 - 39.4%) -- 99.8% chance to 3HKO

Gastrodon @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Def / 156 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Recover
- Toxic
- Ice Beam / Earth Power / Substitute

ehehehehe. best slug completely walls rotom-h, only fearing toxic, and wears it down with toxic and repeated scalds while keeping itself healthy with recover. ev spread is a simple thing that lives 2 metagross zen headbutts factoring leftovers with the rest in spdef. last slot can be added coverage or you could try subtoxic which sounds really interesting, especially considering that gastrodon is capable of setting them on seismic toss.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-H Overheat vs. 100 HP / 156 SpD Gastrodon: 77-91 (38.6 - 45.7%)
252+ SpA Rotom-H Inferno Overdrive (195 BP) vs. 100 HP / 156 SpD Gastrodon: 77-91 (38.6 - 45.7%)

252+ SpA Choice Specs Rotom-H Hidden Power Grass vs. 100 HP / 156 SpD Gastrodon: 192-228 (96.4 - 114.5%) but does anyone run this???? do your scouting kiddies
Rotom-H Thunderbolt vs. Gastrodon: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time

Jmal's Nihilego because it cares about neither trick nor wisp nor toxic, and I was in the process of drawing ms paint rock tentacle monster as he nommed it since I'm a fool who knows not the concept of "reservations"

gastrodon sucks

>:(

Jmal's Nihilego - don't really rate nihilego in this meta when naganadel overshadows it so heavily as a specially offensive poison type but it does do this job very well (on that note, naga does deal with rotom p okay outside of scarf hp ice...). lum berry ttar feels like overpreparation when you could just pair it with fini or something lol, otherwise tar is a cool nom.

Jmal's Nihilego

Trick is currently #5 for Rotom-H in terms of usage as of this writing, above Toxic and Wisp. Not minding Trick is pretty nifty and Nihilego can handle itself without bulk investments.

Jmal98's R̶o̶c̶k̶ ̶s̶q̶u̶i̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶y̶ Nihilego

Not giving a damn thing about what Rotom-H does and bopping it while being able to support the whole team with SR is too good to be ignored.

Congratulations Jmal98! Your submission will be logged in the Archive!
Victim of the Week 52 - Suicune

suicune.gif

Up next we have the Aurora Pokemon, Suicune! Suicune has fallen out of favor this gen thanks to Tapu Fini, but it can still work on some teams. Suicune's main advantages over Tapu Fini are being able to burn non-grounded targets with Scald, heal more than once with Rest(as long as Electric or Misty Terrain aren't active), and Pressure stall slower targets. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Taking Koko
tapukoko.gif

Tapu Koko @ Electrium Z
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Taunt
- Volt Switch

Tapu Koko is one of if not the best Electric-type in the tier. Thunderbolt under Electric Terrain hits hard, 2HKOing every set bar jank sets like max HP/SpD Calm AV sets. If needed, Tapu Koko can just obliterate the most common forms with Gigavolt Havoc, achieving a clean OHKO on offensive AV sets:
252 SpA Tapu Koko Gigavolt Havoc (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Suicune in Electric Terrain: 216-254 (104.3 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Taunt can also shut down much of Suicune's moves, preventing it from using Substitute, Calm Mind, Rest, Toxic, Protect, Roar, and Reflect. Volt Switch can revenge kill a weakened Suicune (252 SpA Tapu Koko Volt Switch vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Suicune in Electric Terrain: 90-108 (43.4 - 52.1%) -- 5.9% chance to 2HKO) or pivot out if the Suicune user switches.

I do apologise for going for somewhat of an obvious pick, but one of my personal favourite counters to Suicune as well as a variety of other mons is Dewgong.

087.png

Dewgong @ Chople Berry/Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 96 SpA / 156 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Perish Song
- Ice Beam
- Surf/Hydro Pump
- Protect/Toxic

I've put a variety of options here since it's not just about what Dewgong can do vs. Suicune, but what utility it can provide to the rest of the team. Chople is great for eating a hit from Mega Blaziken. If one runs pump, they can eat a hjk from max adamant and guaranteed OHKO non-bulky Mega-Blaziken after rocks if running pump though it does sacrifice accuracy. This is not including the Protect mindgames. It guaranteed takes a double edge from jolly mence and has high chance to OHKO non-bulky mence with ice beam, which is guaranteed with blizzard but not worth the accuracy drop. You can run leftovers over chople if you aren't concerned with strong fighting types like mega luc/mega blaziken.

Dewgong mishes Suicune in the 1v1, perish song consistently forces Suicune out when it decides it wants to do its silly shenanigans. Even at +2, Hydro Vortex from max spa suicune bounces off the GOAT that is Dewgong.

+2 252 SpA Suicune Hydro Vortex (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 96+ SpD Dewgong: 92-108 (46.7 - 54.8%)

As for scald:

252 SpA Suicune Scald vs. 252 HP / 96+ SpD Dewgong: 23-27 (11.6 - 13.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever

Just read what the calc says.

Ice beam can of course freeze. Dewgong cannot be haxed by suicune ice beam due to having that ice type.

Toxic can be ran over protect, which gives a better matchup vs. more bulky mons such as P2 and suicune without rest if they are able to keep switching around. Protect is better for pure perish trapping.

Literally the only thing Suicune can do against a full health T H I C C fat dewgong is hope they have roar so they don't have to face this monster.

My knowledge of the metagame is obviously lacking.
No worries man, we seek revolutionary sets here. Competitive Pokémon sometimes needs some creativity. Also Dewgong is the best Pokémon in the metgame - it checks unwallable threat named Glailie that kills everything with Sheer Cold and dodges everything with an Evasion boost from Moody.
Obviously that was a joke

Edit: I don't main BSS here, we just gather here for fun and cool stuff, amirite
