the Ttar set is cute and all but it's as good as dead against the next thing that comes out, so i'm going with Fire Fist Ace's Chansey because it is guaranteed to be healthy after walling PZ to death so it has a better chance of being able to do more work.

Congratulations ethan06! Your submission will be logged in the Archive!
Victim of the Week 40 - Serperior

Up next we have the Regal Pokemon, Serperior! Serperior has an incredible ability in Contrary, allowing it to boost while using Leaf Storm. Base 113 speed and access to Glare, Reflect and Leech Seed make it a niche support option for certain teams. While its movepool is lacking, Contrary's snowball potential often makes up for it. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Submissions will be closed in 4 days from now. Good Luck!

Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 244 HP / 4 Atk / 4 Def / 228 SpD / 28 Spe

SpD Mence just wall Serperior. Mence can use it as a setup fodder, Roost on it and PP stall the All-Out variant, don't care about Glare with Facade and OHKO Solid Snake at +1.

+1 4 Atk Aerilate Mega Salamence Facade vs. 116 HP / 220 Def Serperior: 168-198 (101.8 - 120%) -- guaranteed OHKO

perhaps not the absoulute best mvenu set for this particular scenario, but a good splashable mvenu set regardless, serperior requires a life orb or zmove, as well as dragon pulse, to get even close to 2shotting it at +2:
+2 252 SpA Serperior Dragon Pulse vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Venusaur-Mega: 58-69 (31 - 36.8%) -- 73.3% chance to 3HKO
venusaur resists the vast majority of hidden power coverages it can carry, ice and fire are shrugged off thanks to its inability to control its impulses to eat, and rock/ground just hits neutrally so it's no big deal

whereas venusaur 2shots even defensive variants handily...

Ability: Corrosion
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Encore
- Disable
- Substitute

Why bother with Serperior when our girl Salazzle is on the scene?

With the combination of amazing typing (against Serperior) and a very nice speed tier Salazzle can exploit the 4x grass resistance to either switch in to a predicted leaf storm, reflect, synthesis, or any move that is not named Glare, Hidden Power Ground, or taunt and encore Serperior and then use any other move Salazzle has, which will mainly depends on whether or not you expect a switch, or if serp is already boosted. For the former either sub or toxic and for the latter disable is usually the best play.

Calcs:
+6 0 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Salazzle: 85-101 (48.5 - 57.7%) -- 59% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
+4 0 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Salazzle: 64-76 (36.5 - 43.4%) -- 99.7% chance to 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
+2 0 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Salazzle: 43-51 (24.5 - 29.1%) -- guaranteed 5HKO after Black Sludge recovery
0 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Salazzle: 21-25 (12 - 14.2%) -- possibly the worst move ever

dang looking up salazzle on google images gets lewd very fast

Are you tired of a certain Grass snake boosting and destroying your team? Make it taste the poisonous rainbow! Muk can come in even on a +6 Serperior and KO it with Poison Jab + Shadow Sneak / Gunk Shot alone. 252 SpA Serperior Leaf Storm vs. 212 HP / 220 SpD Assault Vest Muk-Alola: 21-25 (10.1 - 12%) -- possible 9HKO

Stallbreaky Mega Altaria. Walls every conceivable coverage type that Serperior would think to use and just wears it down without losing too much health itself. It needs to be at +6 to 2HKO with Leaf Storm, and Altaria is able to win out with Hyper Voice before that happens. Fire Blast + Hyper Voice guarantees a 2HKO on offensive Serp. This set is walled hard by Heatran but I'll take that over being walled by Ferrothorn ^_^ Slashes are pretty interchangeable, SubToxic is a cute set but I find Fire Blast is just more useful, bc Fire coverage really is such a draw in this meta.

average fella's Mega Venusaur. Venusaur is the best because of the mons on here venusaur only really fears facing an offensive serp that has already been allowed a significant amount time to setup, which is fairly uncommon by itself, but also doesn't get hit by the coverage that serp has (mainly people that are running hidden power coverage).

Oh and it doesn't care much about paralysis unlike the other mons avalible who need speed to function in many cases.

RNGIsFatal

Banned deucer.
average fella's Mega Venusaur

x4 resists Leaf Storm, doesn't care about Taunt and can proceed to throw STAB Sludge Bomb, doesn't mind too much about Glare either. Lure sets like HP Fire / Dragon Pulse don't do jack.

ThickFatAzumarill's Alola-Muk

everyone else loses to certain meme coverages (hp ice, hp ground) but this one takes even a super effective life orb meme coverage on the chin.

Victim of the Week 41 - Naganadel

We're back with one of the new Pokemon released in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Naganadel. It has already taken its place as a very threatening Pokemon, with a fantastic typing in Poison/Dragon, great neutral coverage, access to Nasty Plot to help it get past bulky mons and Beast Boost makes it harder to revenge kill if it gets a speed boost from it. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Submissions will be closed in 4 days from now. Good Luck!

Tyranitar @ Assault Vest
252 HP / 124 Atk / 76 Def / 4 SpA / 52 SpD
Brave Nature
- EQ
- Stone Edge / Rock Tomb
- Ice beam

Tyranitar was the best way to deal with Naganadel at OU (before Naga got banned). 124 Atk and Brave nature is enough to OHKO the common 20 HP Naganadel with EQ. The AV itself allows tyranitar survive a 2+ Draco-Z from Naganadel, so I adjusted the EV to survive from a EQ from a Adamant 252 Landorus-T.

Defensive Calc.

+2 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 136-162 (65.7 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 236 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Fighting vs. 252 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 112-136 (54.1 - 65.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ Atk Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 76 Def Tyranitar: 174-206 (84 - 99.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
+2 252+ SpA Volcarona Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 52 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 146-174 (70.5 - 84%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (if Bug-Z, tyranitar is dead from a +1)

Offensive Calc.

124+ Atk Tyranitar Earthquake vs. 20 HP / 0 Def Naganadel: 152-180 (100.6 - 119.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Thanks to Empoleon's typing and Assault Vest, Empoleon hard walls any Naganadel Set. While does it face competition from Heatran, Empoleon is less likely to be blown apart by HP Ground. Calcs: +2 252 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Ground vs. 252 HP / 100 SpD Assault Vest Empoleon: 82-98 (42.9 - 51.3%) -- 5.1% chance to 2HKO

Came up with something as a result of some discussion on discord. Behold the one true counter:

Blissey @ Leftovers / Mago Berry ( / Icium Z / Firium Z )
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Ice Beam
- Softboiled
- Substitute / Flamethrower / Toxic / Minimize / Thunderbolt

Blissey/Chansey seemed like really good checks in the first few days of USUM until we realised that +6 Z Draco bops them and Naga can very easily boost to that. But what if Blissey has SpD boosts? That's where this innovative set comes into play.

Full special bulk Blissey can switch into boosted Naga and start boosting right in front of it.

+2 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 190-225 (52.4 - 62.1%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+2 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 84-100 (23.2 - 27.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery
+4 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. +1 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 190-225 (52.4 - 62.1%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+4 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 96-114 (26.5 - 31.4%) -- 19.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+6 236 SpA Naganadel Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. +2 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 190-225 (52.4 - 62.1%) -- 98.8% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

+6 236 SpA Naganadel Draco Meteor vs. +3 252 HP / 252+ SpD Blissey: 102-121 (28.1 - 33.4%) -- 94.3% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+2 0 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Naganadel: 138-164 (91.3 - 108.6%) -- 50% chance to OHKO

0 SpA Blissey Subzero Slammer (175 BP) vs. 20 HP / 0 SpD Naganadel: 136-160 (90 - 105.9%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO
Lefties / Mago doesn't really matter. Lefties is the traditional item but Mago might actually be better.

Sub is cool with Mago because it activates the berry after taking a Z move and puts you around 60% with a healthy Sub which makes setting up on Naga even easier, but it's also good for scouting switches. Flamethrower hurts Ferrothorn. Toxic hurts switches. Minimize is Minimize. Thunderbolt hurts Gyarados switch ins.

Unfortunately you have to use special bulk on this set so physical attackers bop it. I considered Maranga Berry with a bold spread but the calcs were kinda bad still. Icium Z is an option for quick damage. Same with Firium on Ferro.

There was talk of a Z Snatch Blissey which sounded really funny (+2 speed and steals the Nasty Plot) but relies on the Naga boosting and doesn't outspeed if the Naga got a kill so I decided against nominating it. There were also a bunch of other mons thrown around in the chat so I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else posts. Ttar / Heatran work but I wanna see AV Regice / banded Mamoswine etc lol.

The thing about Naganadel is that you're never going to be able to counter it if you're not running dedicated stall or really REALLY fat teams, and even then you're only going to have some very niche picks to chose from. This, alongside with majority of BSS teams being offense / balance, I find that a check is much more realistic. So I present to you all, the single most broken pokemon to ever roam Battle Spot.

Mimikyu @ Mimikium Z
Ability: Disguise
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance
- Shadow Sneak / Curse

I'm sure you all know exactly what this does. Alongside being a natural check to a plethora of threats, Mimikyu is particularly good here because it doesn't take up your sash / scarf slot, which is what I really really like about it. Having the ability to check Naganadel in the ability is what sells this for me, since with sash mons you have to worry about getting it in safely without breaking sash via rocks / sand. Similarly with scarf mons, you can find yourself being locked into a move that you don't really want. The free move selection and not having to worry about the issues which scarf and sash mons face is why I love Mimikyu as an answer.

252+ Atk Mimikyu Let's Snuggle Forever vs. 20 HP / 0 Def Naganadel: 180-213 (119.2 - 141%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Plus it's a Mimikyu \o/

Heatran @ Assault Vest
Ability: Flash Fire
Level: 50
EVs: 220 HP / 252 SpA / 36 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power [Ice]

This Heatran set is a great pivot that gives off a ton of offensive pressure when it gets in on a variety of Pokemon due to its typing and added bulk due to the AV.

252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Naganadel: 146-174 (97.9 - 116.7%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO

252 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Ground vs. 220 HP / 36 SpD Assault Vest Heatran: 88-104 (45.3 - 53.6%) -- 21.9% chance to 2HKO
+2 252 SpA Naganadel Hidden Power Ground vs. 220 HP / 36 SpD Assault Vest Heatran: 168-200 (86.5 - 103%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

Due to Heatran's phenomenal coverage in this set and the offensive investment, Earth Power does respectable damage on switchins if Naga want to switch, further giving the user of this Heatran the advantage vs Naganadel and its team. Most Naganadel do not even use Hidden Power (19.x% usage) so any set of Heatran can work but this set even handles Hidden Power Ground variants reliably. In the current metagame, Mega Salamence is not being used as much but Hidden Power Ice is to not become setup fodder for it and also gives you the ability to mess with unsuspecting Landorus-T who are at an all-time high for BSS usage and just general ability to hit things hard on a prediction since this is such a scary pivot that typically forces switchins to Pokemon who would not appreciate the chip damage from EP or the potential to just faint from a read HP Ice.

This set is not a Naganadel specific set either. It has been used in previous seasons to be a reliable check for Electrium Z Tapu Koko and a counter to its other sets and Tapu Lele, two very powerful threats in this format as well. This set will certainly help you in your BSS endeavors.
