Victim Of The Week [On Hiatus]

Rotom-Wash @ Waterium Z
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunderbolt

Rotom-W takes both of Heatran's STAB to the face without a hitch and is bothered even less by its common coverage moves barring Bloom Doom, which is rare. Rotom-W is also a pretty splashable poke that can glue a lot of things together by being a deterrent to extremely popular pokes like Landorus-T, Gyarados, Tapu Fini, Hippowdon and Celesteela to name a few.

252+ SpA Rotom-W Hydro Vortex (185 BP) vs. 212 HP / 156+ SpD Heatran: 224-266 (116 - 137.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

vs

252 SpA Heatran Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 45-53 (28.6 - 33.7%) -- 0.4% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Heatran Flash Cannon vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-W: 16-19 (10.1 - 12.1%) -- possible 9HKO
Heatran Earth Power vs. Levitate Rotom-W: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time

The only thing you really have to watch out for is Bloom Doom Heatran, which can be easily baited out anyway.

completely walls Heatran and doesn't really mind a Toxic since it can then spam 140 base power Facade.

Heatran's attacks are so weak against this. You can even survive a specs HP ice and then Roost stall on it lol

All right, submissions are now closed! There are to be no edits of your own Pokemon, nor are there to be any new submissions. A few quick things to note;
  • Voting will close on the 10/28 at 10:00pm GMT-2 (9:00pm EST), where the next Vitim Of The Week will also be announced
  • You can't vote for your own submission
  • You can only change your vote once, so think carefully before doing so
  • You can vote even if you haven't made a submission. It is expected that you vote if you did submit yourself, but not compulsory

Hydreigon @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 50
EVs: 76 HP / 252 SpA / 88 SpD / 92 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dark Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Earth Power
- Roost

Resists Magma Storm, immune to Earth Power. Flash Cannon is rather uncommon. Hydreigon also has good matchup against sets with lures such as Grassium Z or Flame Charge.

252 SpA Heatran Flash Cannon vs. 76 HP / 88 SpD Hydreigon: 67-81 (37.8 - 45.7%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Life Orb Hydreigon Earth Power vs. 244 HP / 0 SpD Heatran: 250-296 (126.9 - 150.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

92 Speed + Timid lets Hydreigon outspeed max Speed Heatran.
Tapu Fini @ Waterium Z / Icium Z
Ability: Misty Surge
Level: 50
EVs: 244 HP / 252 SpA / 12 Spe
Modest Nature
- Nature's Madness
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power Fire / Calm Mind / Taunt / Haze

Pretty basic Tapu Fini offensive set. Walls Heatran pretty good. You got your Nature's Madness to screw with fat walls, Hydro Pump as your damage dealer, and Moonblast for your usual anti-Dragon coverage. Last slot depends on what you need more.

Run Waterium Z most of the time, and only run Icium Z if you run Haze and want some recovery.

Blaziken @ Blazikenite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Jump Kick
- Protect
- SD / SE / TPunch / BP / filler

Blaziken can OHKO Hearan with its Fighting-type STAB move and is enough bulky to absorb an Earth Power for Tran (bar the Specs). Customize this set as you need and kick the crab.

252 Atk Mega Blaziken High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Heatran: 198-234 (100 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

0 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blaziken: 102-120 (65.8 - 77.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
44 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blaziken: 106-126 (68.3 - 81.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Blaziken: 136-160 (87.7 - 103.2%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO

Charizard-Mega-X @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
Level: 50
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw / Outrage

The one case where dd is my favorite choice on xzard, when it needs this particular coverage. Pre-mega, only cares about rock tomb on a switchin from a heatran invested in speed, as rock tomb doesn't ohko without investment:
0 Atk Heatran Rock Tomb vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Charizard: 104-124 (67.9 - 81%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
and the speed drop requires speed investment on tran to outpace it (116 speed evs with a netural nature required to outspeed 167 after a tomb)

an ancientpower also one-shots premega. statistics say that it's somehow 20% usage despite how many useful utilities it has for the non-stab+ep moveslot, but i don't believe it since i have literally seen it zero times. perhaps the opponents i face are pants-wetting sissies who can't click their meme coverage against something against which it blanks.

post-mega, takes literally 0 from its stabs, and only has earth power to fear. takes exactly one on the chin at least.
252 SpA Heatran Earth Power vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Charizard-Mega-X: 118-140 (77.1 - 91.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

generally the matchup would go like this.

if it tombs you on the switchin, immediately mega eq and pray it's a slow boy. this is unlikely to be the matchup since tomb has like 12% usage but it's still something to watch out for

if it doesn't, and grassy terrain isn't up, mega eq to rock its world.
252 Atk Charizard-Mega-X Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Heatran: 220-260 (132.5 - 156.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

if it doesn't, but grassy is up, guess if they have ancientpower or tomb, and mega or non-mega dd accordingly, then do this to em
+1 252 Atk Charizard-Mega-X Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Heatran in Grassy Terrain: 160-192 (96.3 - 115.6%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
if they did something like bloom doom or earth power that blanked on you, just immediately mega dd since earth power can't oneshot you barring crits or specs/life orb/soft sand.

the game for countering this is full of chess games and nuances, but to check it, "just earthquake lol". it's really that easy with this bad boy.

every mon can easily be a victim to heatran with sufficiently ""unique"" coverage or sufficiently good burn hax with plume. xzard doesn't care if the roll for plume is 100%, it won't get burned.

Honestly this was a hard pick. Tapu Fini and Rotom-W are nuked by Grassium Z set, and it is not like you can bait it our or anything because mostly they will switch into Magma Storm and end up being trapped. Blaziken is still heavily damaged by Magma Storm and can't really switch into Earth Power which is the second most common move Heatran carries, as far as my experience goes. Mega Salamence and Mega Charizard X look dope but both of them despise Stealth Rock...

I rarely see Mega Charizard X with Earthquake because +1 Outrage cleanly 2HKOs most Heatran variants while Facade Salamence is very situational towards the rest of the meta due to it lacking power from defensive investment and 70 BP STAB.

I will go ahead and choose average fella's Mega Charizard X because as long as Stealth Rock is off the field, it can choose not to Mega Evolve and proceed to set up on Heatran's face with resistance to Magma Storm / Flash Cannon and Immunity to Earth Power. What Heatran even carries Ancient Power in 2017?

Johta's Rotom-W

Hydro Vortex Rotom is a really cool mon that hits far harder than most give it credit for. It isn't bulletproof as Heatran checks go but it gets the job done well and I feel it deserves the shout

e: Rotom can beat all Grassium Heatran variants if it invests in speed - maybe some more time playing with EV spreads would've netted this nom more votes?

ee: okay bc that was a big call i went ahead and did some calcs... Timid 124 HP / 196 SpA / 188 Spe beats Timid max Heatran, takes two Timid Specs Overheats (do they even run that? w/e it's worst case) and still has a 56% chance to OHKO max spdef tran with Vortex. Probably dumb but I like to think I do my research

Victim of the Week 39 - Porygon-Z

Up next we have one of the Virtual Pokemon, Porygon-Z! While overshadowed by its own pre-evolution in the past, Porygon-Z was buffed this gen thanks to Z-Moves. Z-Conversion allows it to change its typing and get a boost to its stats, becoming immune to paralysis and losing its weakness to Fighting moves if it becomes an Electric type, or it can fire off powerful Normal moves such as Z-Hyper Beam. With proper team support, it can be hard to stop once it gets going. So, how do you deal with this mon?

Submissions will be closed in 4 days from now. Good Luck!

Blaziken @ Blazikenite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Flare Blitz
- High Jump Kick
- Protect
- Swords Dance

Blaziken can handle Porygon-Z and still continue to do its current job. A Jolly nature is a mandatory to outspeed Porygon-Z.

252 Atk Mega Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 160-189 (99.3 - 117.3%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Mega Blaziken High Jump Kick vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 344-408 (213.6 - 253.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Speed Boost lets Blaziken outspeed a +1 Porygon-Z while Swords Dance guarantees an OHKO on any variant of +1 Def Z-Conversion with Flare Blitz.

+2 252 Atk Mega Blaziken Flare Blitz vs. +1 4 HP / 0 Def Ghost-type Porygon-Z: 211-250 (131 - 155.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Z-Conversion P-Z will always use Conversion before attacking. But Blaziken will always be OHKO by a Specs P-Z (if it's not KO before).

252 SpA Porygon-Z Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 64-76 (41.2 - 49%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Porygon-Z Uproar vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 208-246 (134.1 - 158.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Adaptability Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 346-408 (223.2 - 263.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

A +1 Porygon-Z or Hyper Beam is also deadly for Blaziken.

+1 252 SpA Adaptability Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 170-200 (109.6 - 129%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+1 252 SpA Adaptability Porygon-Z Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 190-224 (122.5 - 144.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Adaptability Porygon-Z Hyper Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Blaziken: 212-250 (136.7 - 161.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Wow hey it's that one Pokemon that dunks on most special attackers. Chansey hardly needs any explaining here, since it BSS it is still best known as a special wall. S. Toss is your primary attack here, but Toxic is used for stalling out turns for Porygon-Z.

This set prepares for the overwhelmingly common Conversion set, regardless if it's Ghost or Electric Conversion. Chansey will just sit there and eat Porygon-Z's hits for breakfast.

Level: 50
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Def
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Shadow Claw
- Shadow Sneak
- Thunder Wave / Swords Dance / Whatever

Simply by existing in team preview Mimikyu makes Porygon-Z thinks twice before using Breakneck Blitz. Against Z-Conversion variants,

252+ Atk Mimikyu Twinkle Tackle (175 BP) vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 114-135 (71.2 - 84.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Mimikyu Shadow Sneak vs. +1 0 HP / 0 Def Porygon-Z: 27-33 (16.8 - 20.6%) -- possible 5HKO

Twinkle Tackle + Shadow Sneak picks off KO if any prior damage was dealt. Thunder Wave can also be used to shut down Porygon-Z and let its team handle it.

Offensive AV Tar, about as simple as it gets when it comes to eating PZ's hits and smacking it pretty hard in return. In return, Tyranitar can Earthquake Electric variants and Crunch Ghost variants, and Breakneck Blitz variants can just be Rock Tomb dropped (this Tyranitar can only outspeed -2 PZ but it makes it easier to revenge kill should it try to whip out the tech HP Fighting or w/e). Here are some handy-dandy calcs:

252+ Atk Tyranitar Earthquake vs. +1 4 HP / 0 Def Electric Porygon-Z: 114-136 (70.8 - 84.4%)
+1 252 SpA Adaptability Electric Porygon-Z Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 70-84 (33.8 - 40.5%)
252+ Atk Tyranitar Crunch vs. +1 4 HP / 0 Def Ghost Porygon-Z: 138-164 (85.7 - 101.8%)
+1 252 SpA Adaptability Ghost Porygon-Z Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 32-38 (15.4 - 18.3%)
252 SpA Adaptability Porygon-Z Breakneck Blitz (200 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Tyranitar in Sand: 52-62 (25.1 - 29.9%)

I haven't seen Sawk in any ladder games / viability ranking list...? Also Porygon-Z can turn itself into a Ghost-type or Electric-type with Z-Conversion... I guess I will see how this goes

RNGIsFatal Ghostium if real ;)
Ghostium Z is hot, but the EV spread is to live a hit from Jolly Mega Gyarados at +1 and thus I find Fairium Z to be more effective on that Mimikyu set, according to my personal experience. But Ghostium Z can be better when denting stuff like Celesteela after the boost so I slashed it anyway :P

Na I just find that there's nothing more satisfying then locking in Never-Ending Nightmare against a Normal-type and having it work lmao. Fairium is better but Ghostium gets the stunt points imo

ethan06's Tyranitar

While Chansey actually walls Porygon-Z better, Chansey is very hard to fit on teams that are not dedicated to stall. Also Tyranitar deals with the rest of the metagame pretty well, namely trapping non-wisp Gengar variants, switching into Mega Charizard Y, etc.

ethan06's Tyranitar

Tyranitar and Chansey are good counters to Porygon-Z but Tyranitar is more splashable and deals decently with the metagame while Chansey is too passive. Mimikyu is a good option but can result in a "flip a coin" match too often.
