Week 94: Thanks for all the votes. Also, the vote was very close this round. Here are the results:

Checks: Keldeo (boltsandbombers) | Breloom (MrAldo) | Landorus-T (michaeloche)
Counters: Chesnaught (Dr Ciel) | Hippowdon (Viridi) | Rocky Helmet Garchomp (InvisibleWater)

Congrats to Dr Ciel for making it into the Hall of Fame!

Week 95:

Nidoking @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower

Counter
199.gif

Slowking @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Scald
- Psychic
- Fire Blast
- Ice Beam

Assault Vest Slowking isn't exactly the best Pokemon in the OU metagame due to various issues, particularly a nasty Pursuit weakness; however, it serves as a fantastic check or counter to most of the special attackers residing in the metagame, Nidoking included. Nidoking's most powerful move, Sludge Wave, does, at most, 33%, while Slowking easily OHKOs back with Scald (after Stealth Rock) or Psychic. From there, it is free to switch out and regain any lost health with Regenerator. Overall, Slowking is a very solid counter to Nidoking.
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 110-133 (27.9 - 33.8%) -- 0.2% chance to 3HKO

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 96 SpD Assault Vest Slowking: 105-125 (26.7 - 31.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
164+ SpA Slowking Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 282-332 (93 - 109.5%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

164+ SpA Slowking Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 314-372 (103.6 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Is it me, or have we done Nidoking already?

AraEdit: Ok yeah, admittedly I did forget – I saw it in the Teambuilding Comp. and thought there was no way I'd already done it. But the set was outdated (with Fire Blast > Flamethrower, and Sucker Punch slashed, and it was in a different meta (in October, when Goth still existed), so I think it'll be alright, with new checks indicative of metagame shifts getting nommed.

I'll take Cresselia.

Cresselia as a counter
488.png

Joan of Arc (Cresselia) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 40 Def / 220 SpD
Calm Nature
- Moonlight
- Psychic
- Ice Beam / Skill Swap
- Thunder Wave / Toxic

Thanks to its insane bulk on the Special side, Cresselia takes absolutely pitiful damage from all of Nidoking's attacks and swiftly eliminates it with a STAB Psychic.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 220+ SpD Cresselia: 121-144 (27.3 - 32.5%) -- 65.7% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 220+ SpD Cresselia: 77-91 (17.3 - 20.5%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Flamethrower vs. 248 HP / 220+ SpD Cresselia: 77-91 (17.3 - 20.5%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

0 SpA Cresselia Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 194-230 (64 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Mew
@ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 HP / 148 SpD / 108 Spe
Careful Nature
- Taunt
- Soft-Boiled
- Will-O-Wisp
- Knock Off

Mew is an overall cool Pokemon and solid counter to Nidoking, sporting enough bulk to avoid a 2HKO from Earth Power (36.6 - 43.3%) and Sludge Wave (38.6 - 45.7%) even with SR up. As such, Mew can switch in rather comfortably and proceed to win between Soft-Boiled and Knock Off, which removes Nidoking's Life Orb and significantly decreases its power. Moreover, Mew can speed the process up by using Will-O-Wisp to whittle away at Nidoking's health or cripple an incoming switch in. Mew isn't a very easy Pokemon to break, and can often find itself sitting on top of a number of teams. Because of this, it's a generally durable Pokemon able to consistently stick around through the course of a game to keep Nidoking in check. All in all, these traits make the little guy a very nice answer to this week's victim.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
IVs: 29 HP
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Earthquake
- Surf / Thunderbolt / Roost

Okay, so this is more of a counter. I've tweaked the standard set a bit to improve Latios's match-up against Nidoking. Anyway, let me explain the set. Firstly, I'm calling this set a counter because Latios is able to switch in whenever, endure a hit, and then OHKO Nidoking with Psyshock, as you can tell by the following calc:
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 421-499 (138.9 - 164.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO. Secondly, I gave Latios a Hasty nature to make sure it can outspeed Weavile, who is a threat to this set, as Hasty nature means a decreased Defense stat, making Latios susceptible to Knock Off. Finally, the moves I gave it are purely for coverage - Draco Meteor OHKOs any weakened Pokemon that resists it, and, in this case, Nidoking. Surf is able to OHKO Nidoking, and Roost increases Latios's longevity.

Nidoking v Latios - 252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Latios: 231-273 (77.2 - 91.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Latios v Nidoking - 252 SpA Life Orb Latios Draco Meteor vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 348-411 (114.8 - 135.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
0 Atk Life Orb Latios Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 213-252 (70.2 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Latios Surf vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 322-382 (106.2 - 126%) -- guaranteed OHKO

COUNTER: CM Blissey

Blissey @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Soft-Boiled
- Heal Bell
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind

Thanks to the access to Leftovers + Calm Mind, Blissey has some nice perks over its sister Chansey. Not fearing status due to Nidoking's Sheer Force, the pink blob can start to use Calm Mind freely. Eventually, click Ice Beam.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Blissey: 126-149 (19.3 - 22.8%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
+3 0 SpA Blissey Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 320-378 (105.6 - 124.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Latias as a hard check/ soft counter
latias.gif

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Defog
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Roost/Healing Wish

Latias can tank any hit from Nidoking, even moreso than latios with its slightly more impressive special bulk and HP investment. Nidoking should probably have sucker punch slashed tho to stop everyone for just putting fast psychic types to check it. Obviously latias doesn't like ice beam, but it can switch into virtually everything else quite comfortably.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 200-237 (62.6 - 74.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 157-187 (49.2 - 58.6%) -- 98% chance to 2HKO

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast

Meloetta @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 96 Def / 20 SpA / 40 SpD / 104 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Calm Mind
- Substitute

I don't think AV Meloetta is a common set for Meloetta (I've heard about it last in XY) so I just go for SubCM. The upper spread is the UU spread for SubCM Meloetta which I honestly never tried myself so I can't guarantee its effectiveness but as a Nidoking counter it is way more effective than the lower set because you outspeed and OHKO Nidoking, while only taking a maximum of 55% from Sludge Wave.
The spread below is the spread I use on my own SubCM Meloetta's 90% of the time. Outspeeds base 70's with some speedcreep for Tankchomp and Mew. Enough SpD so Heatran won't break your sub with Lava Plume. Psyshock has a 70% chance to OHKO Nidoking so the roll is in your favour.

252 SpA Meloetta Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 320-380 (105.6 - 125.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Meloetta: 160-188 (46.9 - 55.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery
20 SpA Meloetta Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 270-320 (89.1 - 105.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 40 SpD Meloetta: 153-183 (37.9 - 45.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Hoopa-Unbound @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hyperspace Fury
- Psychic
- Gunk Shot
- Drain Punch

Hoopa can't switch in reliably on Nidoking, as it takes gargantuan damage from Sludge Wave and Earth Power. However, with a Choice Scarf equipped, Hoopa can outspeed and OHKO Nidoking with Psychic.

4 SpA Hoopa Unbound Psychic vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 390-462 (128.7 - 152.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Reuniclus @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator / Magic Guard
EVs: 144 HP / 112 SpA / 252 SpD
Modest Nature
- Psyshock
- Future Sight
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast

Reuniclus can OHKO it:
112+ SpA Reuniclus Psyshock vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Nidoking: 314-372 (103.6 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Nidoking can only 3HKO Reuniclus
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 144 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Reuniclus: 117-138 (29.4 - 34.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

And if it is Magic Guard...
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 144 HP / 252 SpD Assault Vest Reuniclus: 117-138 (29.4 - 34.7%) -- 8.8% chance to 3HKO

Reuniclus do it's job with ease, but it can not counter only Nidoking. It can Wall Heatran, Venusaur, Gardevoir-, Alakazam- and Manectric-Mega, Lati@s and other Special Pokémon.

Shoutouts LilOu for this set :)

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Standard Keldeo is a pretty good check to Nidoking. It can take any one attack from it and immediately OHKO back with Scald or Hydro Pump. It can't switch in more than once, however, so it's pretty soft when it comes to countering Nidoking. Does just fine as a check, though.

Nidoking:252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 216-255 (66.8 - 78.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Keldeo:252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nidoking: 494-584 (163 - 192.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Name: Kyurem-B

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost

Kyurem-B can come in and take any one attack from Nidoking. Then, it outspeeds and OHKOes back with Ice Beam or can heal up with Roost.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Kyurem-B: 216-255 (55.2 - 65.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nidoking: 460-541 (151.8 - 178.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

porygon2.gif

Porygon2 @ Eviolite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 248 HP / 204 Def / 56 SpD
Calm Nature
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Recover
- Toxic

Porygon2 can come in on any attack and avoid 3HKO, recover and 2HKO with ice beam.
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Earth Power vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 110-133 (29.4 - 35.6%) -- 22.3% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 56+ SpD Eviolite Porygon2: 118-140 (31.6 - 37.5%) -- 86.9% chance to 3HKO
0 SpA Porygon2 Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 170-202 (56.1 - 66.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Latias (F) @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Calm Mind
- Roost

Defensive answers are pretty rare for Nidoking but Mega Latias is one of the better ones. It can take most of Nidoking's attacks fairly well and is able to outrun and outstall it with Roost. Latias is able to either set up Calm Minds in Nidoking's face, or deal a ton of damage back with Ice Beam.

252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 177-208 (48.7 - 57.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 140-165 (38.5 - 45.4%) -- 11.7% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 117-140 (32.2 - 38.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock
0 SpA Mega Latias Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Nidoking: 220-260 (72.6 - 85.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 216 SpD / 44 Spe
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Will-O-Wisp
- Recover
- Taunt

Jellicent can switch in on all of Nidoking's attacks, then proceed to burn it or 2HKO it with Scald. Recover allows Jellicent to restore its health, and, thanks to Sheer Force, it doesn't have to worry about status ailments.

Offensive:
0 SpA Jellicent Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 192-228 (63.3 - 75.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Defensive:
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 70-83 (17.3 - 20.5%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Earth Power vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 134-160 (33.1 - 39.6%) -- 15.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 216+ SpD Jellicent: 44-53 (10.8 - 13.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever
