Vileplume is a Great defensive Grass-type that provides great utility to teams, with an amazing defensive typing that allows it to handle many offensive and defensive threats like Passimian, Steelix, Rhyperior, and Seismitoad. Corrosive gas is the preferred fourth utility move as it gets away the opposing Pokémon’s item, this is very good as getting Pokémon like Umbreon, Vaporeon, and Milotic Leftovers removed and Centiskorch, Charizard, and Mantine Heavy-Duty Boots removed can impact the battle. Other great utility options you can use instead of Corrosive Gas that can benefit your team are Aromatherapy, Stun Spore, and Sleep Powder. Vileplume’s great STAB combination hits most of the metagame neutrally, and with Growth it can pressure mons late game like Scrafty and Snorlax. The ability Effect Spore comes in handy as it can sleep, poison, or paralysis the target, punishing U-turns and Flip Turns from Passimian, Inteleon, Silvally, and Barraskewda. The 96 Spe evs allow Vileplume to outspeed Choice Band Heat Crash Copperajah and use Strength Sap on it to avoid an OHKO. Vileplume can also be ran on Sun teams with Ninetales. With 252 SpA and 252 Spe it can be a powerful wall breaker with Growth and Dual STAB.
Charizard or Salazzle are great teammates for Vileplume as it checks the annoying steel types that set up on Vileplume such as Klefki, and Silvally-Steel. Another great teammate is Drapion because it has a immunity to Psychic and can deal with faster psychics that revenge kill Vileplume like Espeon, Gardevoir, and Slowbro-Galar. Having a bulky water such as Vaporeon/Milotic on your team to check the Fire types such as opposing Charizard, Salazzie, and Centiskorch that tend to switch into Vileplume. An honorable mention goes to Seismatoad as it counters fires and is faster and more offensive then Vaporeon. Lastly having a Rock type on your team like Rhyperior for Braviary, Charizard, Sigilyph, and Xatu is great.
